Random thing but

Avemcaec!

The birb! The screechy birb! Which I felt kinda stupid fighting because I didn't realize I could vault and surge simultaneously at first-

That said, really loved that fight. It felt very smooth and otherwise intuitive. Yeah it's much easier than some bosses, it's only the second one, but I appreciate the readable mechanics.

Kinda amused by the name, too. As far as I can guess, it's some sorta riff on "blind bird"?

Cuz "Avem" is the singular accusative of "Avis." "-caec" could be a few things, but it mostly sounds like "caecus"/"caeco", which is blind or to blind. Makes sense since you're quite litterally trying to blind the bird. The boss could be summarized by "avem caeco" - "I make the bird blind." That goes easily to "Avemcaec," methinks.

The bird theme also fits well with the vault ability, so that's appropriate to chapter.

How did I Come Up With Their Names! (I mainly looked at name meanings and also the culture that my OCs are from until I found something with a good meaning. I used behindthename & behindthesurname for first and last names)

Ségdae Tonyx

Ségdae is an Old Irish name which means "favourable, fine, good learned" and also an Irish myth. Tonyx is just taken from a part of the scientific name for leopard seals; Hydrurga leptonyx. I was searching for an Irish name, as selkies are from Celtic mythology, and Ségdae felt correct.

Yusra Bashar

Yusra is an Arabic name meaning "wealth, ease", and she is my first TWST OC, and also one of the few that I didn't change from my OG designs. Also, she brings a wealth of love and chaos to her loved ones... and I could short form her name to Yu... Bashar is Arabic/Bengali for "bringing good news". Wealth of good news; kinda what the combo means.

Prem Bashar

Prem means "love, affection" in Sanskrit, and I just thought it really fit him. And when with Yusra, their sibling relationship is nothing but full of ease and affection. Love, bringing good news.

Imani Lechance

Imani means "faith" in Swahili, but was originally derived from Arabic. Lachance is a French nickname for a lucky person, but was turned into a surname. He doesn't really believe in luck, so it's a fun little play on my part. Faith in luck.

Avis Crawford

Avis is just Latin for bird; yeah yeah, I'm shameless. Crawford is an English surname from a place which means "crow river crossing". There wasn't a lot of thought behind their name, I just wanted birb meanings.

Yoon Seok

Yoon is a Korean surname meaning "govern, oversee" and Seok means "stone" or "tin". He likes being in nature and gardens so "oversees stone" felt fitting. Also nickname for Yoo, guilty again

Rayen Vega

Rayen is Mapuche for "flower" but is also used in Latin America. Vega is Spanish for "meadow". So yes, her name means "flower meadow" and I love it.

Eden Ziskind

Eden is Hebrew for "pleasure, delight. Ziskind is an ornamental Yiddish name for "sweet child". Delight sweet child.

Can't we talk about this??

My 4th pre-emptive attack is for Avis the Birb, whose art I'd seen years ago, and when I finally was able to follow him, he immediately followed back! I hope I was able to do justice to his girl. The scene is inspired by what's probably the first mistake everyone makes playing Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. You exit the tutorial dungeon, see what looks like a safe place up ahead, swim over to it and walk in... with your sword drawn... and are promptly attack by the paranoid, belligerent Thieves Guild. For the record, I haven't actually used my powers here, mice are just naturally that much smaller than rats!

Just a small announcement I wanted to make!

Somewhat lengthy post below.

As mentioned here, after Hogwarts Mystery first released, I started off with my Ravenclaw MC named Avi Birb lol She’s not a self insert or an OC, but more of a walking meme more than anything. It was an excuse to have all the characters, especially Snape, say ‘Birb’.

I stopped playing after reaching Year 5 Chapter 18 as I found myself fed up with the game and therefore lost interest. At that point in time, Chapter 18 was the farthest that it went.

I can’t remember what got me back into playing from the beginning with Reina, so I can only assume it was when Year 5 hadn’t updated in several weeks up until that point. Since I was far more focused on Reina, I stuck through the game and made it all the way to Year 6 before I lost my file over a month ago. The only cause that comes to mind could’ve been an issue with the emulator (Bluestacks) I was using at that time.

Switching accounts meant logging out of the Facebook account it was linked to, uninstall Hogwarts Mystery, switch to the FB account with the other file, and reinstall Hogwarts Mystery again so that when it opened up, it’d be with the other character. It’s just as tedious as it sounds. 

Since I was using the same emulator for both (my phone is old and could no longer run the game), it suffered an error at some point that caused my original playthrough of Reina to vanish as it no longer appeared when used with the FB account it was saved on. Instead it just showed the default character select screen and no longer gave the option to select your saved file.

My solution to prevent this was to have a second emulator, Memu. Reina’s current file is in Bluestacks and Avi’s is on Memu. 

Rather than go back to Avi, I remade a new file with Reina since I was far more invested in her. Earlier today I finally caught up to Year 5 Chapter 18, as pictured above. Why mention this? For the time being, I’m going to pause my playthrough with Reina and go back to Avi. Once I reach Year 6, I’ll switch back to Reina and catch her up as well.

Now that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop drawing Reina. On the contrary, I’ll still be drawing her and have plenty of pics planned out I’m hoping to get back to soon. Just wanted to share this with ya’ll!
