Trigger warning for PTSD, eating disorders, mentions of violence/hate crimes. Beware a level of spoilers in this.

For a long time, it doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

It’s nothing close to easy for Alex. Between the mental and psychological repercussions of her ordeal with Aven, and actually what’s going on around her in Medora, she simply can’t connect herself with the person she used to be.

In terms of her PTSD, it’s rough. Between the chronic anxiety, survivor’s guilt, frequent panic attacks and nightmares, she loses weight and finds herself with no energy at all. It takes a while for her to be persuaded to actually receive professional help, mostly thanks to D.C. and Kaiden, and be officially diagnosed with her disorders that are all the result of her involvement with Aven.

Outside of Alex’s mental health, Medora as a nation is suffering. Thanks to the mass destruction and high death toll, the population is severely crippled. Food shortages, minor economic failings and large amounts of refuges suddenly become common updates in the everyday news channels.

Between the loss of student lives and how much of the grounds were damaged, Darrius Marselle makes the decision to close Akarnae Academy for two years. During this period, a lot of senior students pitch in to help restore the campus and facilities, including Alex and her circle of friendships.

Hate crimes happen every couple of weeks, fleeting and horrific. Some ex Aven supporters succeed in an assassination attempt against Rachel and Jack Jennings. This prompts Alex’s mental health to crash all over again following their untimely deaths.

She barely manages to pull through this time round, and for a period of time is both uncharacteristically and unhealthily dependent on Kaiden.

With their faith in the Medoran Crown becoming less and less apparent, a lot of Medorans begin to turn away from the idea of monarchy and more towards the concept of being a democracy. (D.C. is in secret support of this, still not at all wanting to be Queen.)

The draekons do return, which is probably the only good thing that happens for a while. One day, when she’s mentally prepared for it, Alex establishes a career around them. 

Lighthearted teenage romance is suddenly thrown out of the window. Jordan and D.C. eventually break up, and Alex and Kaiden have some pretty rocky periods. With all that’s going on around them, Bear and Declan don’t even admit their feelings for one another until they’re both well past graduation. 

Medora finally begins to settle down again when the Crown is abdicated and a Republic established, a new President elected. 

A lot of people don’t get their perfect happy ending, but the healing of their world is enough for many.

Crimes of Grindelwald: My Spoilery Thoughts

This contains major and minor spoilers! Beware!

First, I quite enjoyed it. I was confused a lot, but I liked it.

Too many plot threads. I couldnt keep track of half of the events unfolding before me.

Nagini is a queen and I love her!

Leta is also great!

Tina was ignored. She wasn’t as amazing as normal, due to them not using her much in the plot.

My son Newt is definitely Aspergers and I love me some quality rep.

Jacob is a cinnamon roll and I am proud to say he’s still my favourite!

Grindelwald is a great villain. Gives me nostalgia for Aven Dalmarta, one of my top villains EVER.

Also on that note, he reminds me of Valentine Morgenstern, which I find ironic since this dude (Young Grindelwald)

Was Jace in the City of Bones movie. Also, that blood pay thing and ‘closer than brothers’ reminds me of parabatai.

Leta didnt deserve what happened to her.

My take on that twist at the end is Grindelwald is lying.

I might have more thoughts later, but that’s it for now.

Review: Yessssss! This series has become one of my favorites of all time. I am so invested in these characters, that there could be 50 books and I would read them all. This was a great installment in the series, and really brought the reader back into the action after the third book (which was also good just not as good as the rest). The plot twist in this one were great, and every chapter kept me wanting more and more. Only thing I am mad at is the fact that I have to wait for another book.
