Subspace doodles (PHIGHTING! Mermaid au)

so I was thinking more about the PHIGHTING mermaid au I’m doing and. What if subspaces’ gas- instead of being like actual gas, was polluted oil? I think that could make for a really cool trope if I ever were to redesign him for it :3!

For the design notes in specific:

When out of control, his “gas” takes the form of polluted oil, in control (as in wearing his mask and tank) it gets filtered into something akin to toxic brine (in which long exposure to can cause a lot of issues, specifically different types of shock, breathing issues, etc). Although the brine isn’t too dangerous to be around in small amounts, it can be harmful over time.

for those wondering what ACTUAL brine water (or more specifically brine pools) are, it’s pretty much a large accumulation of highly concentrated saltwater (which usually is around 10 times saltier then the ocean surrounding it) For most sea animals this brine means instant death due to the fact that is has no oxygen in it as well as the high saline levels.

Adri's bleary gaze regarded the words on the phone screen, choosing not to register them but failing anyway.

Three missed calls.

Though he HAD been in bed the whole time, it would indeed have been a lie to say that he hadn't been awake.

Hovering just over the screen's keyboard, his fingertip failed to make contact after reaching just a hair's breadth away from the glass.

"Not fucking worth it…" he ultimately muttered, moving his thumb up to power off the screen before another message popped up.

[Mom: Your father-]

Adri didn't even read the message, his teeth coming down hard on his tongue as his grip tightened. For a second, his arm pulled back to toss the phone across the room in a moment of emotion that culminated into a pure instinctual amalgamation of rage and frustration.

Before he could even reach the apex of his swing, a firm hand gripped his wrist, and the excessively tall form that lay at his back sighed as it plucked the phone from him.

"If you break this, I'm not paying for another one," a weary voice mumbled into the back of his head.

The feeling of Akingraeux's other arm tightening around his waist was grounding enough for the tears to start forming. Adri had run out of self-pitying tears a while ago, but the angry ones seemed to always be replenishing themselves.

"I am so… Fucking tired," he whispered into his pillow with a shuddering sigh.

Aki stirred slightly, the hand still holding Adri's phone lingering aloft, even now.

"Yeah, well, me too. Your holiday stress was giving me a bit of a beating last night, even your DREAMS had shitty vibes. I'm taking that out of your worship fund in the form of your coldbrew."

Try as he might, Adri couldn't not smile, enough motivation as any to wipe his eyes. Granted, he was only allowed so much reprieve at a time, or, at least, that's what it felt like sometimes, as his phone buzzed again. Reaching for it was an excessively futile endeavor as Aki rolled onto his back and unlocked the screen to peer up at it in his stead.

"Oof," he mumbled, squinting.

Adri made to turn around to look, but his squirming only made Aki's left arm wrap around him tighter to keep him in place.

"What?" he whimpered, trying to turn his head instead, which prompted Aki to tilt the phone away.

"Your mom may be a bitch, but your dad is so fucking underhanded," Aki scoffed, and Adri was able to turn his head just enough to see him roll those pale eyes.

"Let me see-"

"NO."

Adri heard the sound of his phone being dropped into the space between the bed and the wall, resulting in a whine of protest.

"Aki!"

"There's nothing on there that you need to pay attention to right now, look, boobs," Aki spoke nonchalantly, using his left arm to roll Adri into him so that his head lay on his chest. He took an amount of delight in the resulting flustered squeak.

"That's not-"

Aki furrowed his brow as he looked down at him.

"Not what? Not your FAVORITE THING IN THIS WORLD, EVER? Lying to me counts as blasphemy, you know."

Adri nearly choked as a laugh ripped itself from him with absolutely no warning.

"NO! I mean-! I was gonna say that's not NICE."

"Of course not. My boobs are MORE than nice. They're AMAZING."

"AKI!"

"Hey, that's me!"

Adri was laughing openly now, a good sign. Aki took a moment to take a little pride in his work, his narrow eyes squinting in lieu of a massive grin.

Eventually, though, did the laughter fade, and Adri sighed, his fingers tightening into a fist on top of Aki's ribs.

"Thanksgiving is truly the worst holiday," he muttered.

Aki snorted incredulously.

"TRULY. It's like a fucking ritual to the god of colonialism. Sometimes I wonder why the hell I stayed in this part of the planet, even. Americans are fucking insane. The capitalism parade arguably moreso than the tribute to familial obligation."

Adri stared at him for a second before his expression cracked into a clear sign that he was trying not to laugh.

"Capitalism parade???"

"Yeah, you know, the one in New York. It's Macy's that does it, right? Who the fuck even shops at Macy's anyway?"

Adri DID laugh now, and Aki wondered if it was becoming less difficult to make him do so.

"Apparently, enough people, I guess. I totally forgot about that, I haven't watched it in, like, 10 years."

Aki skewed his mouth off to the side and shrugged, looking down at him with an indifferent expression.

"I only remembered because your phone feed had something about a One Piece balloon."

"You're fucking with me."

"I'm not!"

It was unclear if Aki had released him or if Adri had just shot up so quickly he lost his grip, but he was immediately treated to the sight of Adri leaning over him and trying to shove his arm down the space where Aki had dropped his phone.

"Seriously? I need to teach you standards," he sighed, pausing for a moment before taking the opportunity to smack Adri right on the ass where it had been conveniently placed over his lap. This time, at the sound of Adri's yelp (and the phone hitting the floor again), he did grin. "If you're gonna have an emotional crisis, we could watch EVA instead."

A muffled "FUCK OFF!"

3. James Bonde/Irene Adler: I loved Irene and then James Bonde shows up who's even cooler GOD. I'm weak for a guy like Bonde (not romantically tho LMAO rip)

4. Miss Hudson: girlboss! I love her she cares so much for Sherlock and John and Adler/Bonde and she's not afraid to put someone in their place (especially Sherlock). The glue that holds Baker Street together

1. The Final Problem's fall: GOOOOOOOOD. WHAT MORE CAN I SAY JUST WATCH AND READ THE SCENE. He doesn't hesitate to jump in after him and auuuuugh I think about it so much

2. "William returns" manga scene: I think about this non-fucking-stop. It's the scene he arrives on horseback to help Shelock and Billy and him and Sherlock fight together and then ask each other to live together. It's beautiful It's showstopping I want to eat drywall

3. The document exchange between Irene, Albert, and Sherlock: It's such a great scene. Sherlock is scared for Irene but knows her going to the Lord of Crime is her safest option; Irene is unsure if she's going to live from this but is still willing to go through with the exchange no matter what bc of the power she saw; Albert presenting the deal to Sherlock William thought of about the name in the letter as a means of trust, and Sherock later burning the letter as a show of his confidence and trust within the Lord of Crime/William to keep his friend safe. The entire arc with Irene/Bonde's birth is one of my fav arcs

4. The Train: it's so fun, so flirty! I am always floored by this bit it's so good! The meet, the flirting. The "catch me if you can", the murder mystery. I would show this scene to anyone who asked me what mtp is

5. The Noahtic meet: You can pinpoint the exact moment the entire narrative shifts. The moment William is nailed for looking at the staircase for the golden ratio is that moment. It's wonderful. I love it so much

Auuuuugh I waffled so hard on how to answer this because do I SHIP it? No. Do I find their Dynamic extremely funny and fun to play around with in a sexual context? Oh yeah. But ultimately for me, shipping has to include some kind of romantic element so...

Don't Ship It

1. Why don’t you ship it?

I think they genuinely dislike each other. Like, Frank definitely has a "stupid sexy Hawkeye" thing going on and Hawkeye has something slightly more complex than pure disdain for Frank going on, but I just think they are completely incompatible for any kind of real relationship, even a "fuck buddies" one.

2. What would have made you like it?

I mean nothing that wouldn't completely subvert the character of Frank Burns.

3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Oh yeah!!! I love their dynamic. I like that there's genuine layers to their Tom and Jerry routine, I love that they're both such fleshed out characters you CAN project storylines of "what would happen if they hooked up" or "what if Frank was Like That because he was attracted to Hawkeye and didn't know how to deal" or imagine how on earth they'd get together, etc. I was joking the other day that Hawnk is "platonic BDSM." There is something delightful and engaging about what they got going on, there is a sexual edge to it because MASH, but like, do I think Hawkeye could ever feel genuine lovingkindness towards Frank, not fondness or pity or sympathy? Not without Frank radically changing as a person, which undermines the point of his character in the show... But I have read some very fun/interesting Hawnk fic!

Rereading the first Stingray novel, as a comment from someone else on it (I'm sorry, I'm HORRIBLE with names :( edit: It was @lugenethedramallama !! ^^) reminded me of how much I love 'em

A: I'd forgotten that Troy name drops Steve Zodiac, specifically as an astronaut, thus directly tying Fireball XL5 into the world as Stingray (somethign the shows sadly never did, although the comcis did so VERY directly. Legit crossover events! ^^ ) edit: Also I forgot taht not only does Atlanta name drop Venus and Fireball.. she apparently is FRIENDS with Venus ^^

I LOVE how clever Atlanta is in a very bad situation. (also just how deeply Sam loves his daughter)

Marina spotting the net and saving the day is a great moment, and evenwithout talking, she still makes her thoughts known!

Troy and Phones' friendship is just.... AUUUUUGH I love it. They're brothers and it's great

Also the moment after Troy sneaks into a town to try and get info, runs into trouble, manages to get back just in time to run into Phones who's heading out to go find him: "Hold it, mister!" a voice growled. A figure stepped from the rock shadows and Troy saw he glint of moonlight on gunmetal. He chuckled softly. "Okay! Don't shoot! I'll come quietly!" "Troy!" Phones came forward eagerly. He was dressed as roughly as Troy was. "Gee pal," he said in a relieved voice, "I was just on my way to look for you. I figured you'd run into bad trouble!" "I hit trouble all right, Phones. But I guess it was good trouble for us. Tell you about it when we're aboard. You ought to be court-martialed for disobeying orders to stay put," Troy's tone took on a mock severity as they picked their way over the rocks. "Yeah?" snorted Phones. Kai Satou profile analysis

So I know I made light earlier of Kai watching his little telenovas… because it’s cute! And it’s sweet he can enjoy them! And it’s listed in his likes session so it’s probably an overall positive experience for him! But I wonder if in a way, seeing drama on television and darker stories play out reminds him a bit of older memories… it reminds me of his ytts events with Reko where he says he loves scary stories because he wasn’t allowed to be afraid in the past. This has gotten a little rambly but I think it’s an interesting point.

I like how similar this is to Sara’s profile. To show it:

They both are stated to joke around with a straight face in their character sections. On the one hand I want to be like “AW…. Siblings!” But also… since they’re siblings and sharing traits it means they got that trait from the same man. Around someone who likes to act jovial, but demands that Kai still not truly be part of the Chidouin family. Demands Sara be a picture of excellence who can kill everyone with charisma.
