Today is the birthday of my beloved niece, Marmar, who has turned four years old. Little Marmar, who always fills our hearts with joy, was eagerly waiting to wear her new dress and cut her favorite birthday cake. However, this time, due to difficult circumstances and rising prices, we couldn’t celebrate as she deserves.

The cost of cakes has surged to more than ten times its usual price, and even the simplest things like dresses and gifts have become out of reach. Yet, little Marmar still dreams of a birthday cake, a new dress, and a gift to make her happy on her special day.

Wally Has Visual Snow?

(I’m gunna be pumping out these thoughts and opinions as the Welcome Home website gets updated and continues to expand on it’s story and characters. I am very excited to explore the neurodiversity themes in Welcome Home and may make a master list later down the road. Until then, I’m gunna keep making random posts as random thoughts pop into my head.) So, I read an article a couple years ago about how some people on the autism spectrum will sometimes have what’s called Visual Snow Syndrome. I believe it was this one: https://www.tumblr.com/the-autisticats/620849957655707648/whats-visual-snow-syndrome-vss-and-why-do-so?source=share And thinking back to the answer videos on the Welcome Home website, it seems pretty clear by the final video that all of them take place from Wally’s perspective. There is also always this old video-like filter in the videos that gives everything a grainy look and the colors seem slightly off.

^^^^^ Visual snow image taken from the-autisticats post I myself have lived with visual snow all my life and had always thought it was a normal part of vision until I saw that post and did some reading on it. It could be just purely for artistic reasons why the team chose to make ‘Wally Vision’ look this way but I like the idea that he has visual snow. And it would make some sense given that he is a puppet and his vision would naturally be ‘a bit fuzzy like him’.

Hey I was recently diagnosed autistic in my 30s and I found your book really helpful. I struggled to understand what was meant by top-down and bottom-up thinking though. Top and bottom of what? And I was wondering if you could elaborate?

Basically, if you are top-down processor, you take in the environment as a whole first, and then, after you've made sense of the whole picture before you, begin to make sense of the tinier details and features. If you are a bottom-up processor, you take in a huge array of tiny details, and then piece those details together into a whole picture. This applies to visual processing, social processing, making sense of a logic problem, and a variety of different ways of taking in information.
