Journal Spread
This section of the book plays on the themes of Linden Eller and Tracey Emin, combining collage work with authorial text entries to explore themes of nostalgia and loss.
Similarly to the work of Allison Cook Brown, whose ‘Teatimes’ book combines fragments of diary entries with handmade objects to create an intimate artist book that develops ideas of identity and personal growth.
In keeping with the visual tone of scrapbooks and photo albums, the layout of these pages presents a visually exciting spread that combines the chaos of cluttered collections, with the accessibility of digital design.

"Column of Fire"
My practice seeks to forge deeper connections with our social and cultural environments by examining the colours, textures, patterns and objects that inhabit a space which, upon reflection, reveal the narratives and behaviours associated with those spaces. As part of my practice, I build library of resources through extensive documentation using observational drawings in sketchbooks, extracting impressions from different surfaces, collaging, photographing textures and patterns and creative writing.
Being an artist and a communication designer, my work often involves a blend of analogue and digital techniques. Going further, I would like to develop my authorial voice, expanding on the text-image relationship, delving deeper into linear and non-linear narratives.
Pancha Bootha Stalangal (Pancha – five, Bootha – elements of nature, Stalangal – places of worship) signifies the five places of worship where Shiva (one of the deities in Hinduism) manifests as the five elements of nature, namely, earth, air, fire, water and ether.
In this project, I have chosen to depict one of the legends associated with the temple of Thiruvannamalai in South India, where Shiva, manifests as fire. The Column of Fire, written in verse, recounts the legend from the perspective of Shiva who is fire personified.
The artworks draw from the temple sculptures and are created with a blend of analogue and digital techniques. Inspired by the layered paper-cut dioramas, I visualized the illustrations as back-lit paper cut-outs with digitally painted backgrounds to create atmospheric visuals.

With this artwork, I go back to my youth days, when I watched the NBA finals, the 1993-94 season, Knicks vs. Rockets, and between matches Spike Lee's film, on VHS was on my TV screen, at that time Wu-Tang sounded from audio cassette in my music center.

“90′s” Authorial digital collage by Fateh Avtar Singh
Often going back to the nineties, remembering the rich colors that mottled everywhere, about the excitement that was in many areas of life, the good and bad aspects, I want to focus attention on the spirit of freedom and competition that was in the those time. It was a time of discoveries, new opportunities and trends.
As a teenager I felt it in a special way, living every day with hopes for the best. There were many negative moments, but also positive ones, and they were bright, colorful, memorable for a long time. It was a special time. Especially for those who were just beginning their lives, the whole generation absorbed the open world that was emerging.

"Cell" 2020 Authorial digital collage
by Fateh Avtar Singh
As the basic functional unit of the structure of all living beings. Being a complex system containing common, characteristic features, it is a kind of mirror of any organism. It has all the functions and properties. It is able to act purposefully even without a single control center. Universality in pure form from the Creator. It's a whole microcosmos. And at the same time the whole Universe is one cell in the body of the same Creator.

“Practicality” 2020
Authorial digital collage by Fateh Avtar Singh
https://fatehavtarsingh.blogspot.com
Today a few words about practicality. It's something different for everyone. And at the same time, there are many similarities. I only take what I need, use it as much long as I can. Just how much I need, no more. Only for business, for important purposes, tasks. There's a rational grain to it, no one can objecting. That's how life works, if you live it without meaning, you won't get great results. And only weighing everything for and against, acting purposefully, without unnecessary fuss, calmly, step by step and then the dream becomes closer. A simple choice that everyone can make. Here it is not a question of a practical attitude to things, but to life and the world as a whole. About the world that we are losing today, don't you think?

being human~
as this project has developed, I have found myself asking questions about my own practice. by working in the field of authorial artwork, I am on occasion existing both as the artist and the subject matter. this book uses the digital collages and journal excerpts from previous developmental work, and combines it with personal photography and a short narrative about the importance of connecting with the world around us. sharing experiences and growing as a person are intrinsic to one another. This book aims to shed light on that in a more accessible approach, using a softer colour palette and spontaneous photography that I feel presents a subject matter which everyone can relate to.

hardback book collaged with papers and embroidery, digitally printed, handbound
