Game, Set, Match - B.T.S
You stood on the court, the crowd's roar fading into a distant hum as you focused on the match ahead. A small smile played on your lips, and your eyes narrowed in determination. The bright sun overhead felt like a spotlight, buzzing on your skin, illuminating your every move and sharpening each muscle in your body. You were a force to be reckoned with — both polarising and captivating, your quick wit and cheeky banter stirred strong opinions. With a playful shrug and a blown kiss to the crowd, you dismissed the critics, your confidence as effortless as your serves.
Years of competing in Junior Opens had forged your resilience, and now you have been stepping into the world of professional tennis, where the stakes were higher and opponents fiercer. You had navigated this transition well over the past few years, finding your rhythm amidst the pressure, your footing steady on the path to greatness. The attention came quick too, especially with names like Nike wanting you to be an ambassador, and all sorts of products wanting you to be the face of the company, from protein powders to headphones - it was endless. The taste of victory was sweet and addictive, each match bringing you closer to the big prizes and recognition you had longed for. But just when you thought you had everything figured out, a whisper of uncertainty began to tug at the edges of your focus... not a what, but more a who?
In the past year and a half, life on tour has shifted for you in a whole different gear. Don't get it twisted, tennis remained top priority, but there was an undeniable spark that made the grind far more enjoyable and unpredictable, and that spark was no other than Ben Shelton. You first noticed him from afar, where casual nods turned into lingering glances that made the hair on your skin stand. With his raw power, boyish grin, and confidence that radiated from him, "Big Ben" was impossible to ignore. But it was during the Australian Open earlier this year that things between you really began to heat up.
Ben was anything but subtle. Once he set his sights on you, his flirting was relentless. You couldn’t help but feel flattered; it was hard not to get hooked to that buzz. After all, it wasn’t every day that a guy like him, full of charm and a teasing smile paid you so much attention. Others had thrown glances your way and offered compliments, but Ben? He stepped up his game like no one else.
Your first interaction was at a practice session where Ben sat by in the empty stands, right up by the court, arms folded and a smirk on his face. You could feel his gaze following you, his presence hard to shake off, not that you wanted to. As you finish another practice set, you heave, closing your fist to celebrate, and walk over to your bag, glancing up as his eyes light up as you catch his.
“You’re looking decent out there,” he teased, leaning over the railing, his voice laced with a challenge.
You stopped, placing a hand on your hip as you shot him a smirk, squinting up at him as you caught your breath. “Decent? It’s okay, I get it, it must be tough admitting I’m shaping up better than you.”
He laughed, stepping closer, his eyes never leaving yours. “Better? That’s a stretch, Y/N. But I’ll let you keep thinking that.”
You shrugged, a teasing grin playing on your lips. “Believe it or not, it’s happening, Ben,” you winked before slinging your bag over your shoulder and heading toward the tunnel. His chuckle followed you as you disappeared from sight.
The banter didn’t end there, though. Throughout the tournament, you could feel his eyes on you, watching during your matches. On TikTok, he left comments that had both your fans and his buzzing. One day after you posted a training video, he had commented: “You sure you’re training for tennis and not modeling?”
You grinned, tapping out a reply. “I’m great at multitasking. What’s your excuse?”
His response was instant. “Just waiting for you to finally give me a real challenge.”
Comments turned into small conversations as you passed by each other, where you’d joke and flirt like it was the most natural thing in the world. His relentless teasing was addictive.
It cooled off slightly to just a couple of liked stories and posts until Wimbledon had rolled around. By this point, the stakes felt higher. You were in top form, but off the court, the media seemed just as interested in your interactions than your matches. And it didn't end there either, it wasn't long before other peers started piqueing interest. For example, Carlos? He wasn’t subtle either.
After a long match, you were relaxing in the players’ lounge when Carlos wandered over, his smile too bright to ignore. He leaned against the table beside you, casually close.
“You were on fire out there today. Maybe we should hit the practice courts sometime,” he suggested with a casual grin.
You tilted your head, a playful glint in your eyes. “Careful, Carlos. I wouldn’t want to embarrass you in front of your fans.”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “I’ll risk it. Besides, we’re both Nike athletes, we’ve got to stick together.”
Before you could reply, Ben Shelton walked into the room, his gaze locking onto you and Carlos immediately. His smile didn’t falter, but the way he sized up the interaction was hard to miss. He strolled over, hands in his pockets, exuding calm confidence.
“Carlitos,” Ben greeted, his tone casual, though the unspoken tension hung between the lines. “What’s this? Making future practice plans?”
Carlos shot Ben a quick glance, still smiling but aware of the shift. “Just talking about tennis, you know,” he said lightly. “Gotta keep sharp.”
Ben’s eyes flicked between you and Carlos before landing squarely on you. “I’m sure you can manage without help. She’s been getting a lot of attention lately, let her breathe.”
Carlos gave you a light tap on the arm before backing off, offering a polite nod. “Catch you later, Y/N.”
You waved him off with a smile. “See you around, Carlos.”
Once Carlos was out of earshot, Ben shifted a little closer, though still maintaining that casual air. “You’ve got him interested,” he commented, his voice dropping lower.
You looked up at him through your lashes, the corner of your mouth lifting into a sly grin. “What, jealous, Shelton?”
Ben’s grin spread wider, but his tone remained easygoing. “Nah, just keeping tabs. Making sure I’m not falling behind.”
You stood up slowly, meeting his gaze as you adjusted your posture, your eyes glinting with mischief. “I don’t mix business and pleasure, Ben. We’re both Nike—gotta keep it professional.”
He chuckled, tilting his head. “So, you’re saying you’re all business?”
You turned to face him fully, taking a step closer, your voice dropping to a teasing whisper. “Oh, not always. But you’ll have to keep up to find out.”
With that, you brushed past him, leaving a lingering tension in the air. His eyes followed you as you walked away, and you could practically feel his grin growing. The banter was always playful, but now, with each exchange, the stakes seemed to rise; the unspoken understanding was clear: the game was very much on.
As the summer heat intensified, so did the buzz around Nike’s newest campaign. Your latest photoshoot was all about capturing both your athleticism and your bold personality. In a blue baby tee top with a heart-shaped keyhole and a matching skort, you struck poses that screamed confidence, captioned simply: "Ready?"
The comments rolled in quickly, and it didn’t take long before Ben made his appearance.
It didn’t take long for the comments to roll in. And as expected, Ben was quick to chime in.
benshelton:
"You call that ready? Looks more like you’re just warming up."
You chuckled, tapping your response.
Y/N.Y/LN:
"Warming up is all I need to beat you, Shelton."
benshelton:
"Beat me? Let's not get ahead of ourselves... You'd need more than a warm-up for that."
The banter was familiar, yet it always left you with a smirk. You leaned into the challenge.
Y/N.Y/LN:
"Careful, or I might just take that as a challenge."
benshelton:
"I play to win."
The playful back-and-forth didn’t go unnoticed by your fans, but it was clear this game of teasing wasn’t just for show. It must've been a week before it escalated further. You hsd landed a major Victoria’s Secret campaign, and it was unlike anything you had done before. They flew you out to Paris and guided you through the whole thing. The theme was dark and seductive—a fallen angel vibe. Lingerie, lace, and the kind of allure that left little to the imagination. You felt powerful, but also aware of how this would get attention—not just from the public, but from Ben.
You posted one of the shots late that night. The lighting was dramatic, casting soft shadows across your body as you reclined in lace.
The caption was simple yet suggestive: "Best kept secret. VS Summer 2024 Fallen Angel Collection, from me to you."
Naturally, Ben couldn’t resist commenting.
benshelton: Fallen angel, huh? Guess that means you’re trouble.
You rolled your eyes, suppressing a smile as you typed out your reply.
Y/N.Y/LN:: I thought you liked trouble.
It was no surprise when he slid into your DMs right after that.
benshelton: "I do. But you're playing a dangerous game."
You bit your lip, leaning back against your hotel bed. It was late, and the quiet Paris night settled around you, but your heart raced.
Y/N.Y/LN: " A game? Who said I’m playing? "
benshelton: "You might not be playing, but you're already winning."
You hesitated for a moment, then smirked as you typed out your next message.
Y/N.Y/LN: "And here I thought you said you could keep up."
Almost immediately, your phone buzzed again. This time, it wasn’t another text. It was a FaceTime call. You let it ring for a beat or two, your pulse quickening, before answering.
Ben’s face appeared on your screen, his hair slightly damp and his grin all too familiar. "You really know how to mess with a guy’s head, you know that?"
You smiled, pulling your covers up over you and leaning into the pillow. "What’s got you all worked up? It’s just a campaign."
He scoffed, running a hand through his hair. "Just a campaign? C’mon, you know exactly what you’re doing."
You blinked up at him, teasing. "And what is it that I am doing, Ben?"
His grin widened, but there was a glint in his eyes. "You’re pushing my limits. You're tempting me"
You chuckled, biting your lip as you let his words settle over you. "Tempting? Now that’s an accusation if I ever heard one. Maybe you're just easy to push."
Ben raised an eyebrow, viting a smile back as well. "Maybe I am. But you better be careful, or you might get burned."
The heat in his gaze made your heart skip, but you kept your tone light. "I think I can handle the heat."
Ben’s smile deepened. "That’s what I’m counting on."
You stared at each other through the screen, the tension palpable even across the distance.
Finally, you smirked, pulling the covers higher. "Goodnight, Shelton."
He sighed, but his grin didn’t falter. "Goodnight, angel. Sweet dreams."
From there, the texts seemed to pour out. Every random moment, one of you would reply to a post or find some excuse to message or call, any reason to interact. You had a secret surprise up your sleeve which you knew would practically bring Ben to his knees for you if he wasn't there already, and it had something to do with a custom dress for a red carpet.
It was a hot July night in Spain, the night draped itself around you like a warm embrace, the energy of the red carpet charity event still pulsing in the air. Your dress—a stunning, sheer, sand-colored creation—clung to your body in all the right places, slit at the thigh, your hair pinned back, accentuating your glossy, sheen skin on your neck down your shoulders. The dress shimmered under the streetlights, leaving just enough to the imagination, but not too much.
Photos were posted by your team, "behind the scene" shots and red carpet poses.  The cameras had devoured every moment, the attention was full on and the night buzzed well. You reveled in the limelight and felt like a true celebrity for the night but, as the evening wore on, you began to feel drained from all the social interactions and wished you could just be alone with your phone, texting the one man who truly kept you on your toes.
Finally, as you collapsed into the backseat of your car, exhausted but exhilarated from the night's events, your phone buzzed with a missed call from Ben. The driver glanced back at you through the rearview mirror as you eagerly turned on your phone and smiled to yourself. In that moment, all you wanted was to be alone with Ben and continue this thrilling game of flirtation and surprises. You call him back after a minute passes, butterflies in your stomach fluttering away.
"Couldn't wait, could you?" you teased, giggling as you leaning back against the plush seat. His grin appeared instantly, filling your screen.
"Wait? After that post?" Ben's voice was a mixture of playful frustration and barely concealed admiration. His eyes roamed over your dimly lit image through the screen as though he could see you sitting there in that dress. "You’ve been trying to kill me with these looks for months, but this? This is the final straw."
You laughed softly, pretending to adjust the neckline of your dress as he clearly struggled to keep his composure. "I'm just doing my job. Don’t get too distracted."
Ben shook his head, a grin still lingering on his lips. "Distracted? I’ve been refreshing Instagram like a madman just to catch another angle of you. And from what I saw, I’m not the only one. You’ve got every guy on tour dropping their jaw."
You smirked, rolling your eyes playfully. "You jealous?"
"Jealous? Let’s see. Alcaraz, Ruud… even Tsitsipas liked your post. You know that guy doesn’t just like anything. But trust me, no one’s more jealous than me," Ben teased, his voice dipping lower.
You laughed softly, brushing a hand over your dress as you adjusted the fabric, playing coy. "Ben, there’s only one person I’m trying to get a rise out of—and it’s definitely not them."
His grin widened, eyes gleaming through the screen, scheming away, "Glad to hear that. So...how about you give me something a little more exclusive?Just a sneak peek. Something that’s all mine."
You crossed your legs slowly, feeling the slit in the dress reveal just a bit more skin, and you caught the driver’s eyes flicking up to the rearview mirror. He quickly cleared his throat and looked away.
You smirked, feeling a rush of boldness. "I'm in public, Shelton. What are you suggesting?"
Ben’s eyes glinted with mischief, his grin widening. "Nothing crazy. Just a little something to hold me over."
You raised an eyebrow, leaning back, the sound of the city humming outside as you sighed. You stretched your legs out across the backseat, angling your body to the side, draping yourself across the backseat for a full body shot. The dress shifted, catching the city light while still being dimly lit, showing off your figure perfectly as you lounged effortlessly. "Is this what you had in mind, Ben? A full shot?" you purred, looking up at your phone, your eyes sweet and innocent.
Ben’s jaw tightened, his chest rising as he exhaled sharply. "Damn, Y/N, I knew you'd look good, but this…" He let out a low whistle, leaning closer to the screen, his eyes glinting and a blush creeping up all over. "You’re not playing fair."
You smirked, enjoying the power shift. "Fair? You asked for it, Shelton."
He laughed, but it was strained, the heat in his voice unmistakable. "Yeah, but you know how to take it to another level. Now I'm the one who's going to be distracted all night." His tone softened, a teasing edge returning. "Just one more reason for me to fly out, don't you think?"
"One more reason?" you echoed, playing with the neckline of your dress, a smile teasing your lips. "I think I’ve given you more than enough."
Ben groaned softly, running a hand through his hair, clearly captivated.
" Y/N, you don’t know what I’d do if I was there right now."
Your heart skipped a beat. "Yeah? What would you do?"
"I’d start with that dress," Ben murmured, his eyes never leaving yours through the screen. "Slowly. You know, just enough to tease. Then—"
The driver cleared his throat, and you bit back a laugh. Ben noticed, his eyes narrowing playfully. "Caught?"
"Almost," you whispered, your pulse quickening as you adjusted in your seat, the thrill of being on the edge of danger sending a shiver down your spine. "You’re getting me into trouble."
"Ben’s gaze softened, though his grin stayed. "Me? You’re the one that looks like that." He paused, his voice low and rough. "God, if I could just be there…"
"Careful," you warned, grinning as you looked at him through half-lidded eyes. "You might lose yourself completely."
Ben’s gaze darkened, and his voice dropped even lower. "Maybe I’m okay with losing it when it comes to you."
You bit your lip, heart racing as you shifted in your seat. The driver’s eyes flicked up to the mirror again, and you quickly glanced away, fighting the blush creeping up your neck. “You’re dangerous, Shelton. Keep talking like that, and I might have to mute you.”
“Go ahead. Mute me,” he dared, his voice thick with challenge. “But I bet you won’t.”
You smiled, a small, teasing hum escaping your lips. “Oh, you think I’m scared?”
“I think you like teasing me as much as I like it.” His voice was gravelly now, every word laced with want.
Your breath caught, eyes wide a bit before you were about to respond when the car pulled up to the hotel. The driver got out quickly, opening the door for you. You stepped out, feeling the cool night air wash over your skin as you walked through the lobby, Ben still watching intently through the screen. You could feel his gaze on you as you made your way to the elevator, the tension between you buzzing like electricity.
Once in your room, you tossed your bag onto the bed and sank down onto the mattress. "Alright," you breathed, "I’m back in my room."
Ben’s voice came through the phone, teasing yet low with interest. "So… how’s that dress treating you?"
You grinned at his not-so-subtle curiosity. "It’s treating me well so far," you teased, running a hand over the fabric. You stood up, positioning yourself in front of the mirror.
Slowly, deliberately, you reached behind you to the zipper. "I’ll give you a little preview."
You lowered it just enough for the strapless dress to reveal a sliver of your smooth back, keeping the front of the dress held firmly in place with your other hand. The exposed skin was just enough to tease.
You turned back slightly, catching his reaction through the screen, his eyes locked on you. "You wanted to see, right?" you whispered, mischief clear in your voice.
Ben let out a breathy laugh, clearly amused. "You really know how to keep a guy on edge."
You shot him a playful look over your shoulder, still holding the dress in place. "It’s all about the suspense. You should know that by now."
Ben's gaze flickered, his tone a bit softer. "You’re making it hard to focus."
With a smirk, you turned to face him, still holding the dress tight. "Goodnight, Shelton."
Before he could say another word, you ended the call, tossing your phone onto the bed, feeling satisfied. You knew he wouldn’t forget that little moment anytime soon.
By the time August had rolled around, the tension between you and Ben was impossible to ignore. Months of teasing, playful banter, and phone calls had built into something electric, something undeniable. Now, you were both in New York for the U.S. Open. The final Slam of the year where you'd cross paths for the year, and maybe the final chance for one of you to make a move.
After winning your third-round match, you made your way through the tunnel, your heart still racing from the adrenaline of your win. The buzz of the crowd still rang in your ears, but as you walked toward the tunnel, you heard familiar voices ahead.
Ben, along with Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe, stood laughing and talking just a few feet ahead. Their voices echoed in the corridor, their banter unmistakable.
“Bro, it’s embarrassing now,” Frances teased. “You’ve gotta ask her out. She’s into you, we all know it.”
Ben groaned, looking exasperated, dragging his hand over his face. “It’s not that easy. I don’t want to screw it up.”
Taylor chuckled. “Screw it up? Dude, she’s been giving you eyes all week. Just make the move.”
Frances nudged him. “It’s not like she’s hiding it either. The way she teases you, she's a green light.”
You smirked, slowing your pace as you approached. They didn’t notice you yet, too absorbed in their teasing.
Ben sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I just… I don’t know.”
“They’re right,” you chimed in, finally stepping into view, as you walked by, wiping sweat off your brow, smirking. Their heads snapped toward you, startled. “Take their advice, Benny. It’s 'bout time you did something.”
Ben’s eyes widened as you walked past, your tone light but with an edge of challenge. His friends burst into laughter, both of them slapping Ben on the back, shoving him back and forth.
Frances grinned. “See? Even she's asking you to make a move, man.”
Ben shot him a look, but his gaze lingered on you as you disappeared into the locker room.
Later, after a shower and a change of clothes, you made your way back into the lounge, feeling refreshed but still riding the high of the match. You didn’t expect to run into Ben waiting for you, leaning casually against the wall with his hands in his pockets.
You raised an eyebrow, a slow smirk tugging at your lips. “Stalking me now?”
He pushed off the wall, taking a step toward you, his expression shifting from playful to serious. “No, what-uh, but I... I wanted to catch you before you left.”
“Oh?” You crossed your arms, looking up at him. “What’s up?”
Ben took a breath, looking almost nervous. “About what you said earlier... maybe they’re right. Maybe I have been holding back.”
You cocked your head, feeling your heart quicken at his sudden change in tone. “And?”
“And I think I’m done waiting,” he said, his eyes locking with yours. “Would you want to go out with me? Just us. Dinner, maybe?”
For a moment, the world seemed to be still. Ben, usually so confident and playful, stood before you with a vulnerability that tugged at your heart.
You let the moment hang, letting him sweat just a little before your lips curled into a teasing smile. “About time you asked, Ben.”
His tense shoulders dropped, a grin spreading across his face. “So, is that a yes?”
You let out a small giggle, your voice soft but playful. “Yeah, it’s a yes. Better come like a gentleman though.”
That night, you stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the sweet, soft dress you’d picked out. It was a pale pink dress, fitted at the top with a flowing skirt that flattered your figure perfectly. The neckline was delicate, with thin straps that accentuated your shoulders, and the soft fabric wrapped your waist before cascading down to just above your knees. The dress was sweet and soft, but still undeniably you—playful with a touch of elegance.
You headed down to the hotel lobby, taking a seat as you crossed one leg over the other, checking your socials. At 7pm on the dot, Ben walks in, running a hand through his curls before he sets eyes on you.
Ben stood there in a crisp white button-down shirt, the sleeves slightly rolled up to reveal his strong forearms, accentuating his strong shoulders, paired with dark, well-tailored pants. His curls were just tousled enough to seem like he hadn’t spent hours fixing it, but of course, he had. He looked handsome—maybe even a little nervous.
“You look stunning,” he said, his voice low as his eyes took you in.
You smiled, a soft blush warming your cheeks, as you stood up. “You don’t look so bad yourself.”
He offered you his arm, and you linked yours through his, your fingers brushing over the firm muscles of his bicep as you stepped out into the lobby. There was a quiet buzz between you, the usual playfulness replaced with something softer, more tender.
As you walked to the car, Ben opened the passenger door for you, giving you a gentle smile as you slipped inside. Before he could close the door, you leaned over, reaching for the driver’s side door and popping it open for him.
He chuckled, shaking his head as he got in. “You always keep me on my toes, don’t you?”
You grinned, sitting back in your seat, and pulling your seatbelt over. “Always.”
The ride to the restaurant was comfortable, a soft hum playing through the speakers, "Love is Only a Feeling" by Joey BadA$$, making you smile a bit at his subtle but purposeful details. As the city lights flickered by outside, you felt a sense of calm settle over you. Every so often, your hand would brush against his on the center console until finally, you slipped your fingers into his, holding his hand gently as he drove.
Ben glanced at you, his thumb brushing lightly over the back of your hand. “You seem... different tonight,” he said, his voice soft, almost as if he were trying to figure out the shift in your usual dynamic.
You smiled as you gazed at him. “Different how?”
He hesitated, his grip on your hand tightening just a little. “I don’t know. Less playful. More...”
“Serious?” you finished for him.
He nodded, giving you a small, sheepish grin. “Yeah. I like it, though.”
You let out a soft laugh, leaning your head against the seat. “It’s just nice to finally be doing this.”
When you arrived at the restaurant, a small, candlelit Italian place tucked away in the quieter part of the city, Ben quickly got out and hurried around to open your door again. This time, when you stepped out, you smiled up at him, letting him take your hand. Before you could fully stand, he bent down, bringing your hand to his lips and placing a gentle kiss on your knuckles.
Your heart fluttered at the gesture, the sweetness of it catching you off guard. “Such a gentleman,” you teased, though your voice was softer than usual.
Ben smirked, though there was a hint of nervousness in his eyes. “I’m trying.”
Inside, the restaurant was intimate, with small tables with flickering candles, and soft jazz music playing in the background. Ben led you to a corner table, pulling out your chair before taking his seat across from you. The low hum of other diners provided a cozy backdrop as the two of you settled in.
As you both browsed the menu, you found yourself resting your chin in your hand, watching Ben with a soft smile. He glanced up and caught you staring, a blush creeping up his neck. “What?” he asked, his voice a little breathless.
“Nothing,” you said, your lips curling into a grin. “Just... enjoying this.”
Ben reached across the table, his hand finding yours again. “Me too.”
Dinner was perfect. The pasta was rich, the wine smooth, but what made the evening unforgettable was how easy everything felt between you. Conversation flowed naturally, deeper than it ever had before. You talked about travel plans and places you both dreamed of visiting and shared stories about family traditions—like how your grandmother used to insist on making a very experimental desserts during the holidays, no matter how disastrous it turned out every year.
At one point, you glanced out the window, taking in the soft glow of the city lights before turning back to Ben. “What about you? If you could be anywhere right now… where would it be?”
Ben didn’t hesitate, his eyes locked on yours. “Honestly? Right here. With you.”
You felt warmth rise to your cheeks, your heart skipping at the simplicity of his words. He wasn’t trying to impress you, just telling the truth, and somehow, that made it even more meaningful. You reached across the table again, slipping your hand into his. His fingers intertwined with yours, the gesture now familiar, yet it sent a shiver through you all the same.
“I’m glad you asked me to dinner,” you said quietly, the weight of the night settling around you both.
Ben smiled, his thumb brushing lightly over the back of your hand. “I’m glad you said yes.”
As the night wound down, Ben drove you back to the hotel. The city outside passed by in a blur of lights, but inside the car, everything felt still and comfortable. You held his hand the entire way, feeling the warmth and quiet reassurance of his touch.
When the car pulled up to your hotel, Ben quickly got out, making his way to your side to open the door. You stepped out, and this time, you didn’t let go of his hand. Instead, you turned to him, standing close in the cool night air.
“Thank you for tonight,” you whispered softly, looking up through your lashes.
Ben’s smile was gentle, his eyes warm as they met yours. “Anytime. Thank you for being here, with me.”
Your eyes crinkled as you smiled before you leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek that lingered for a moment. His skin was warm, and you felt him inhale sharply at the unexpected touch. When you pulled back, your heart was racing, but you smiled up at him, feeling the lingering heat between you.
“Goodnight, Ben,” you said, your voice barely above a whisper.
His gaze lingered on you, and though he smiled, there was a quiet intensity in his eyes. “Goodnight, Y/N.”
You gave his hand one last squeeze before letting go, making your way into the hotel with a soft smile on your lips. You glanced back one last time to see him leaning against his car, a playful wave and your lipstick still visible on his cheek. For once, you weren’t in full control, but somehow, that felt right.
In a world dominated by meticulous moves, it was these quiet moments that grounded you. Now, with someone like Ben by your side, every win, every loss, and every day on the court held more meaning.
Sometimes, the most important victories happened off the court.

Insect Flour: The Eco-Friendly Ingredient You Need in Your Kitchen
In recent years, the conversation around sustainable eating has evolved significantly, with many people seeking alternatives to traditional protein sources. One of the most innovative solutions to this challenge is insect flour, a nutrient-rich ingredient made from ground edible insects, particularly crickets. This eco-friendly option is gaining traction as a versatile ingredient that can be easily incorporated into various recipes. Hoppa Foods, an Australian brand committed to sustainability, offers high-quality insect flour that not only benefits your health but also supports the planet.
Tumblr media
What is Insect Flour?
Insect flour is created by grinding edible insects into a fine powder. Crickets are the most commonly used insects for this purpose due to their high protein content and nutritional benefits. This flour is rich in essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, making it an excellent addition to a balanced diet. With over 60% protein content, insect flour stands out as a powerful alternative to conventional protein sources like meat and dairy.
The Nutritional Benefits of Insect Flour
One of the primary reasons to consider incorporating insect flour into your diet is its impressive nutritional profile. Here are some key benefits:
High Protein Content: Insect flour contains more than 60% protein, making it an excellent source for those looking to increase their protein intake without relying on animal products.
Rich in Essential Nutrients: It is packed with vital nutrients such as vitamin B12, omega fatty acids, and amino acids, which are crucial for overall health.
Low Sugar and Fat: Insect flour is naturally low in sugar and fat, making it a healthy choice for various dietary needs.
Sustainable Source: Producing insect flour has a significantly lower environmental impact compared to traditional livestock farming. Crickets require less land, water, and feed while emitting fewer greenhouse gases.
Why Choose Hoppa Foods?
Hoppa Foods stands out as a leader in the edible insect food market in Australia. Their cricket protein powder is made from 100% natural crickets, ensuring that you receive a product free from artificial ingredients or preservatives. Here’s why Hoppa Foods should be your go-to choice for insect flour:
Quality Assurance: Hoppa Foods sources crickets from responsible farms with complete traceability, ensuring that you consume a high-quality product.
Versatile Usage: Hoppa’s insect flour can be easily incorporated into various recipes—from smoothies and energy bars to baked goods and pasta—allowing you to enjoy its benefits without compromising on taste.
Commitment to Sustainability: By choosing Hoppa Foods, you support a brand dedicated to promoting sustainable eating practices that benefit both consumers and the environment.
How to Use Insect Flour in Your Kitchen
Incorporating insect flour into your cooking is simple and can enhance the nutritional value of your meals. Here are some creative ways to use it:
Smoothies: Add a tablespoon of Hoppa cricket protein powder to your morning smoothie for an extra protein boost without altering the flavor.
Baking: Substitute up to 25% of regular flour with insect flour in recipes for muffins, cookies, or pancakes. This adds protein while maintaining the delicious taste.
Energy Bars: Make homemade energy bars by mixing insect flour with oats, nut butter, honey, and your favorite seeds or dried fruits.
Pasta: Try Hoppa's cricket pasta for a unique twist on traditional pasta dishes—it contains twice the protein of regular pasta!
Soups and Sauces: Stir in some insect flour into soups or sauces as a thickener while boosting their nutritional content.
Addressing Common Concerns
While many people may feel hesitant about trying insect-based products due to cultural perceptions or personal preferences, it's important to note that insect flour has a mild flavor that blends well with various ingredients. Most users report that it does not affect the taste or texture of their dishes significantly.Additionally, for those concerned about allergies, it's worth mentioning that individuals with shellfish allergies may also react to crickets; however, many find them safe and beneficial when introduced properly into their diets.
Conclusion
As we continue to seek sustainable solutions for our dietary needs, insect flour emerges as an eco-friendly ingredient that deserves a place in every kitchen. With its impressive nutritional profile and versatility in cooking, it aligns perfectly with modern health trends and environmental consciousness. Hoppa Foods offers high-quality cricket protein powder that not only enhances your meals but also contributes positively to the planet's future.Embrace the change by adding insect flour from Hoppa Foods to your pantry today—your body and the Earth will thank you! This version highlights Hoppa Foods throughout the blog while maintaining clarity and engagement.

This is also very niche but I'd like to add a few points. One: American scones generally are not nearly as layered as our biscuits. And Two, if you're eating biscuits in the American South, it might very well be a completely unique thing, because the flour down there is different. This is not entirely the case with the monopolization/industrialization of the grocery industry (ie, flour from other areas being sold at a location because say, walmart mass produces their product), but wheat grown in the American south is different from the wheat grown in the rest of the country (I forget exactly why, but something about soft wheat not doing well with rocky soil and cold, I think?), and what Specifically is different about it is that it has about half the protein (gluten) as all-purpose flour, and even less when compared to bread flour. Now it IS comparable to pastry flour that you can find elsewhere, but still isn't Quite the same. And ultimately, the color and texture of biscuits made with soft flour is going to be different than a biscuit made with all purpose flour, with the soft flour being lighter (more rise), more tender, and able to crisp up on the outside a bit without ever getting chewy, where the all purpose flour will give a denser, Chenier, harder-to-cook-right biscuit, if you don't amend your recipe to account for that (more butter+buttermilk, a bitmore baking powder and only Just barely mixing enough)
And, some people Do put equal amounts sugar in their biscuits as they've put in baking soda to counter that salt/tang flavor, if the biscuits are getting served primarily with tea and coffee for breakfast. I'd argue that These kinds of biscuits are more similar to a British scone. But. The dense (if buttery) puck youd get from KFC in Massachusetts... thats its own beast. I wouldnt classify that thing as a teatime treat. Delicious soaked in gravy, but not jam.
(To clarify I adore all style American biscuits, they're one of my favorite breads ever, and the above knowledge comes from learning to cook them. they're just good for different types of meals. I also wonder, where australian scones becoming different from british scones concurrently with, before, or after American biscuits? Was this a product of globalization influencing recipes, or both countries having no need for a "kinda sweet but not" bread, and creating a less-sweet/more savory version of the British scone? It'd be interesting to look into.

Professional athletes that are vegan
Tumblr media
The vegetarian and vegan diet is attracting the attention of more people around the world day by day and the number of its fans is increasing rapidly.

According to him, although he switched to this diet to treat his illness, he fell in love with veganism from the very beginning and considers it one of the best diets for providing energy and health.
Although Williams doesn't like breakfast, he starts his day with fruit or fruit and vegetable juice, and his drinks include vegetable juice, protein smoothie, pineapple, orange, and strawberry juice.
Almond milk with granola, lentils, quinoa, strawberry milkshake with protein powder, sweet potatoes, green beans, cabbage, noodles and brown rice are some of the foods he consumes in his meals and usually vegetable juice. He uses cabbage chips, cashews, dates and mangoes for snacks.
Lunch is his biggest meal and his dinner is usually salad with fresh ginger, garlic, pepper, orange juice and lemon.

The cause of vegetarianism and Lewis Hamilton's diet
2017 and more Hamilton has joined the big wagon family for environmental reasons.
He says: "Man has brought pollution to the world and the amount of pollution caused by raising cows is even more than the pollution caused by vehicles. This is really crazy and cruel and I don't see the need to support it. I will."
Hamilton loves breakfast but avoids sweets made with dairy butter and often uses beans with toast. He has always loved avocado and vegan pancakes are one of his favorite sweets.
Hong Kong special vegan burger, falafel, quinoa powder, fried garlic tofu with vegetables, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, tempeh and baked sweet potato are among the foods consumed by this athlete in different meals and drinking fresh coffee Or green tea with 85% dark chocolate.

He says about this: "Monkeys are twenty times stronger than humans, even though they never eat meat. It is a false myth that you have to eat meat to increase your physical strength. "I have a full-time cook and a good nutritionist to make sure I get all the minerals and nutrients I need."
David Hay provides most of the protein he needs by consuming a lot of beans and lentils. Other foods he consumes include cod liver oil, quinoa, brown rice, puree with bananas, kale, celery juice, a mixture of beans and drumsticks, and He mentioned sweet potatoes as well as lots of vegetables and salads along with protein shakes and coconut milk, prunes and dates as snacks.

Fast Lean Pro Reviews – Scam or Legit? Here’s My Experience!
Fast Lean Pro Reviews - The big picture of losing weight is that caloric expenditure must surpass caloric intake. What many get wrong here is that they literally cut calories in comparison to their maintenance. In other words, living on a considerably lower intake will eventually lead to individuals giving up or eating more in defeat. One team argues that enhancing satiety is the key to maintaining caloric intake lower than expenditure.
Don't Wait Any Longer, Order Fast Lean Pro Right Now!!
Tumblr media
Increasing protein intake and drinking water on a regular basis are two examples. For those searching for a supplement add-on, this team created one that boosts fullness while pushing people into a fasting state. Wondering how they managed to bring such exceptional idea to life? This is where it is fitting to introduce Fast Lean Pro.
What is Fast Lean Pro?
Fast Lean Pro is a powdered dietary supplement designed to aid in weight loss. It is made up of a proprietary blend of ingredients believed to activate the “fasting switch” for maximum results. We don't only mean weight loss when we say this; we also imply cellular rejuvenation, fasting, and a healthy metabolism. The basic fact is that the added aspect of fasting will drive results regardless of what and when people eat. In order to fully grasp this concept, we must gain insight into the Fast Lean Pro process.
How does Fast Lean Pro work?
The Fast Lean Pro formula was created in hopes of deceiving the brain into believing that individuals are fasting. This idea follows the advantages of intermittent fasting that have been noted by numerous studies.
The fasting period, one of the two windows of eating in place, allegedly flicks a switch that causes the body to burn fat reserves and destroy any old and dead cells. Consequently, the body will begin a natural regeneration process to aid in cell renewal and to support weight loss. The latter process of elimination and rejuvenation is referred to as autophagy.
Don't Wait Any Longer, Order Fast Lean Pro Right Now!!
One source [1] that explored autophagy reported how it has been scientifically linked to a reduced likelihood of developing cancer, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s disease. Fasting is only one method of accelerating the process; others include exercise and caloric restriction.
To return to the subject of weight loss, glucagon levels tend to rise during this process, which is an important component that regulates blood sugar levels and suppresses appetite. Of course, the lack of energy is a disadvantage, but this is something that the body will likely adjust to with time.
What’s inside Fast Lean Pro?
The Fast Lean Pro formula's principal drivers have been integrated in a 1.7g proprietary blend of:
Fibersol®-2
Fibersol®-2 [2] is a soluble corn fiber (containing 90% dietary fiber) thought to function as a low-calorie bulking agent. One publication suggested four possible outcomes that could be useful not only for weight loss but also for overall wellness.
For starters, because Fibersol®-2 is a fast-digesting carbohydrate, it may have been included in sports drinks and snacks. Though data is limited, this ingredient might aid in the maintenance of anaerobic power during exercise.
Second, people with low blood sugar levels may benefit from it, as it has been demonstrated to cause a fast increase in blood sugar. Following that, some evidence suggests Fibersol®-2 can be used to prevent colorectal cancer.
Finally, it is known to improve colonic transit time, stool volume and consistency, and overall bowel movement. A small study [3] on the impact of Fibersol®-2 on satiety hormones found that drinking a tea containing 10g of Fibersol®-2 with a meal boosted leptin levels, suggesting improved satiety.
Acacia Hydrolysate (as Sukre)
Acacia [3] is an herb with a long history of use, particularly by Egyptians and Australian aboriginal people. It refers to a plant genus that comprises a variety of trees and shrubs. In today's society, this ingredient is widely used in food and medicine. It has been demonstrated to alleviate stomach and throat irritation, treat wounds topically, and lower the risk of gingivitis. For the purposes of Fast Lean Pro, it serves as both a food ingredient and a source of water-soluble dietary fiber.
Particularly, 15g of acacia may support weight, cardiovascular health, and plasma cholesterol concentration. One study found it to be efficient in lowering body fat percentage by 2% over a six-week period. Unfortunately, the latter situation requires a concentration of 30g, which the Fast Lean Pro formula does not provide. Another study showed the effects of taking 20g of acacias not only improving satiety response, but also lowering peak glucose response [4].
Biogenic Polyamine Complex
Polyamines [5] are a type of molecule (i.e., putrescine, spermine, and spermidine) produced from ornithine (i.e., a non-proteinogenic amino acid that contributes to the urea cycle). This element is thought to be necessary for cell growth, maintenance, and overall function.
In fact, polyamine is regarded as a vital factor in determining whether cells will live or die. Polyamine levels have been found to decrease with age, which may have a deleterious impact on cardiovascular health while decreasing longevity.

Body swap clinic:The best investment
Tumblr media
-This is the best investment of my fucking life!- Ever since I convinced this boy to exchange his body with mine, everything has gotten better and better, last year I was Edward Brown, a simple 30-year-old pharmacist, but on the day of today legally my name is Onome Egger a 21 year old Australian bodybuilder.
Tumblr media
When I started in this world of nutritional supplements for athletes about 5 years ago I was nobody and today my new and attractive face is everywhere! from instagram to any food supplement store where my products are sold.
I was nearly broke and had put most of my saved money into producing my line of muscle building products focused on bodybuilders. when my first line failed after a year my house was full of containers of protein powder. I was so poor at the time that I had stopped paying the deposit for the warehouse where all my inventory was kept.
But despite the few dollars I saved by having a century of unsold boxes of my product in my house, that only made me sink deeper into my failure. I had to get out of the huge hole I had gotten myself into one way or another.
My salvation came in the form of a huge, muscular boy named Onome Egger. I met him when I attended a bodybuilding competition trying to get rid of one or two of my protein powders. Calculate Onome did not win that year he was in 4 place, despite his huge smile and applause towards the winner of that year while he was still on stage I could see his huge disappointment.
I had to take advantage of that opportunity, when the competition ended I looked for him everywhere to talk to him in private, thank God he found him at the last moment before he left through the back door of the gym where the competition had been . I started praising him and saying how unfair the contest was -Man! what a farce you should have won that shit, the judges must be more blind than me” I said pointing to my huge nerd glasses.
It seems like a little praise and a little put-down was enough to gain his trust and make him smile. sushi I understood why they requested my invitation so quickly. he was fucking hungry!

AUSTRALIAN NATIVE FRUITS AND HOW TO USE NATIVE FRUIT POWDERS
Tumblr media
Australia has a unique biodiversity with its native flora and fauna. Indigenous Australians have foraged this native flora and fauna for nourishment and sustenance for thousands of years. Australian native food is also colloquially known as 'Bush tucker'. It includes kangaroo, emu, crocodile, witchetty grubs, native fruits like Davidson plum, finger lime, quandong or spices like aniseed myrtle, lemon myrtle or native lemongrass. The availability of native bushfood has declined due to several factors since the colonisation of Australia including introduction of non-indigenous food and destruction of indigenous land for western cultivation.
The food industry, across the globe, is craving for new flavours, exciting tastes, local and regional cuisines. Australian natives have seen a revival not only in the food industry but also in the landscaping, health and cosmetic industry. Australian natives are a hero ingredient in Michelin star kitchens and popular TV shows like MasterChef.
Australian native food is adding a distinct ‘Australian flavour’ to regional and international cuisines. The popular Australian native fruits include Davidson Plum, Kakadu Plum, Illawarra Plum, Finger Lime, Sunrise Lime, Lemon Aspen, Outback Lime, Muntries and Quandong. These nutrient-dense fruits from the Australian backyard are now considered ‘superfoods’. Let’s take a look at some of these Australian native fruits and how to use their fruit powders in our daily lives.
DAVIDSON PLUM
Davidson Plums are native to tropical rainforests in northeast Queensland and northern New South Wales (NSW). They are dark blue/purple in appearance and have a reddish-pink soft juicy pulp. Davidson Plum has an earthy aroma of rosella and stewed rhubarb with floral, earthy and musk notes. It is slightly astringent and intensely tart in flavour.
Davidson Plum is one of the most nutritionally powerful native fruits and has a high level of antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties. It contains vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein, folate, zinc, magnesium and calcium. It has properties that may support eye health, diabetes, age-related macular degeneration, obesity, autoimmune and cardiovascular health.
Davidson Plum fruit powder is available at Spice Zen’s online store. It is freeze-dried to maintain its flavour and nutrients. This fruit powder gives a beautiful rich red colour to the dishes. Because of its strong acidic taste, the Davidson Plum is rarely eaten as fresh fruit. Instead, you can use it to flavour acai bowls, muesli, cocktails, juices, protein shakes, smoothies, sorbets, salads and yoghurts. You can also add it while baking and in chocolates, desserts, ice-creams, jams, sauces and relishes.
It is excellent as a meat glaze for duck, kangaroo, pork, and curing fish. It can help balance flavours in sweet dishes or desserts. You can enjoy it in a refreshing cup of either hot or cold tea.
KAKADU PLUM
The Kakadu Plum is known by many names such as Gubinge, Bush Plum, Billygoat Plum, Murunga and Kabiny Plum. It grows in the subtropical region of Kimberley (Western Australia), Northern Territory and Queensland. It is considered a 'gift of the Dreamtime', and Indigenous Australians have revered this bush tucker for many years because of its culinary, nutritional, preservative, and medicinal properties. It has a yellow/ green fruit with an oval shape and when ripe, quenches thirst with a boost of energy!
It is known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antimicrobial, enhancing immunity and anticarcinogenic properties. It is a rich source of vitamins, folates and minerals. It also has a high potassium to sodium ratio, which can help reduce hypertension.
It boasts of having the highest Vitamin C levels of any fruit globally, with 100 times more Vitamin C than oranges, 5 times more antioxidants than blueberry, and the same amount of folate as in broccoli.
Spice Zen’s Kakadu Plum powder is made from wild-harvested plums of the Kimberley region of Australia that are freeze-dried to retain the flavour and nutrients. It has an aroma of stewed apple and pears with floral-musky notes. It is slightly astringent and tart in taste with a strong stewed fruit flavour intensity.
You can add Kakadu Plum powder to juices, smoothies, acai bowls, muesli, shakes, and sorbets. Sprinkle it over your salads, puddings or just add it to your water bottles. You can also use it in jams, sauces, relishes, preserves, baking, desserts, and ice creams. To add an exotic touch, you can sprinkle it over seafood and chicken. Add Kakadu Plum powder to your homemade face masks and cosmetics.
FINGER LIME
Finger limes grow in the lowland subtropical rainforests in southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales. This native lime looks like a regular lime rolled into a sausage shape and as the name suggests, is barely the size of a little finger. Yet this unusual citrus (whose skin colour ranges from emerald green, to purple, crimson and black) is a nutritional giant! Unlike regular limes, the inside of a Finger Lime is packed with tiny translucent caviar-like pearls, and when popped, each one releases a delicious splash of tangy flavour. This has earned the fruit the nickname "citrus caviar or native caviar".
Finger lime has an aroma of fresh, citrus, slightly minty with fermented notes. It is refreshing, citrusy, sweet, tart with some astringency and bitterness.
Indigenous Australians have used Finger Lime for thousands of years for its nutritious and medicinal properties and for warding off diseases. It was applied topically as an antiseptic on sores. Finger limes are rich in Vitamin E, Vitamin C, potassium and folate.
Spice Zen’s Finger Lime powder is freeze-dried to preserve the flavour and nutritional value. With its lightly bittersweet taste, Finger Lime can be used instead of regular lemons or limes in practically any recipe. It is a natural flavouring for sweet and sour dishes. It is ideal for dressings, sauces, jams and marmalades. Use it in ice cream, sorbet, cookies, cakes and fruit bread. Sprinkle it on salads, fruits and mild cheeses. It pairs very well with Dukkah.
You can add it to seafood dishes like grilled fish, prawns and oysters or scallops with vinaigrette. It also works especially well in mocktails, cocktails, gin, vodka, mojitos, margaritas, martinis and other beverages. So, sit back and enjoy your favourite delicacies with a tangy twist.
SUNRISE LIME
Sunrise Lime is a cross of Finger Lime with Kumquat and Mandarin. This fruit is harvested during the winter months. The Sunrise lime fruit is small, pear-shaped with golden orange colour. This fruit can be eaten fresh (including the skin), or in the form of fruit powder. It is sweet, sour with a hint of bitterness. The juice is tangy and fresh with delicate floral notes of kumquat.
Sunrise Limes contain high levels of Vitamin C and Vitamin E. They are also rich sources of potassium and folate. It helps increase immunity, boosts eye health and vision, leads to healthy teeth and gums, and lowers blood pressure.
Spice Zen’s Sunrise Lime powder is a freeze-dried fruit that has been ground to retain all the nutrients and flavour. It has similar uses to Finger Lime. It is great in fruit dishes, beverages, and preserves. You can also use it in your baked goodies like cookies, biscuits or fruit cakes. Or just add to your spice rubs for a sweet, citrusy tang to your dishes.
LEMON ASPEN
Lemon Aspen, also known as Pigeon Berry, is found in tropical and tableland forests of northern Queensland to north-eastern New South Wales. This pale lemon coloured fruit has a rigid star-shaped core and a thin spongy flesh. Lemon Aspen fruit has citrus, tart, strong lemon taste with a hint of grapefruit. It has a tropical citrus aroma with notes of spice and eucalyptus. It is best enjoyed when slightly raw.
Lemon Aspen is a rich source of folate, iron and zinc. It contains magnesium, calcium, and has a superior antioxidant capacity than blueberries.
This fruit powder can be used as a fruit flavouring in sweet and savoury dishes or to replace any other lime. As it is very strong, just use it in small amounts. It is great with seafood and poultry.
Spice Zen Lemon Aspen powder is a freeze-dried fruit to retain all the nutrients and flavour. It can be used in syrups, sauces, dressings, relishes, chutneys and jellies. Like other native fruit powders, add it to juices, smoothies, cocktails, liqueurs, cordial or fruit wines. It can also be added with other spices for a tangy flavour.
OUTBACK DESERT LIME
Outback Lime, also known as Desert Lime is true native lime and belongs to the Citrus Glauca family. It grows in semi-arid areas of southwest Queensland, western New South Wales and South Australia. They are like small green grapes and the tree does not have any thorns. The Outback Lime has an intense rich lime flavour with an aroma of stewed fruit and freshly cut grass.
Outback Lime is a powerful source of antioxidants, Vitamin C and folate. It is a rich source of calcium, folate, Vitamin E and lutein. It also has a high potassium to sodium ratio, which may help to reduce blood pressure. Outback Lime can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes just like other native limes but it certainly packs a punch.
Spice Zen Desert Lime powder is a freeze-dried fruit to retain all the nutrients and flavour. It has a pleasant, sharp, slightly sweet citrus taste. Use it to flavour sauces, butter, jellies, jams, dressings, mayonnaise, aioli. Perfect in cordial, syrups, liqueurs and beverages. Add a zing or balance the flavours in your cakes, cookies, yoghurt, chocolate, ice cream and sorbets. Drizzle desert lime burnt butter over oyster or your seafood.

Low-Cost Protein Sources About Which You Don't Have Any Idea.
Read here - https://www.livingwithabhi.com/post/low-cost-protein-sources-about-which-you-don-t-have-any-idea
Protein is a nutrient your body needs to grow and repair cells and to work properly. Protein is found in a wide range of food and it’s important that you get enough protein in your diet every day. How much protein you need from your diet varies depending on your weight, gender, age, and health. Meeting your protein needs is easily achieved by eating a variety of foods. Protein from food comes from plant and animal sources such as meat and fish, eggs, dairy products, seeds and nuts, and legumes like beans and lentils.
Proteins are made of amino acids
Proteins are made up of building blocks called amino acids. There are about 20 different amino acids that link together in different combinations. Your body uses them to make new proteins, such as muscle and bone, and other compounds such as enzymes and hormones. It can also use them as an energy source.
Some amino acids can be made by your body – there are 11 of these and they’re known as non-essential amino acids. There are nine amino acids that your body cannot make, and they are known as essential amino acids. You need to include enough of these in your diet so that your body can function.
Nutritional value of protein
The nutritional value of a protein is measured by the number of essential amino acids it contains.
Different foods contain different amounts of essential amino acids. Generally:
Animal products (such as chicken, beef, or fish and dairy products) have all of the essential amino acids and are known as 'complete protein (or ideal or high-quality protein).
Soy products, quinoa, and the seed of a leafy green called amaranth (consumed in Asia and the Mediterranean) also have all of the essential amino acids.
Plant proteins (beans, lentils, nuts, and whole grains) usually lack at least one of the essential amino acids and are considered 'incomplete' proteins.
People following a strict vegetarian or vegan diet need to choose a variety of protein sources from a combination of plant foods every day to make sure they get an adequate mix of essential amino acids.
If you follow a vegetarian or vegan diet, as long as you eat a wide variety of foods, you can usually get the protein you need. For example, a meal containing cereals and legumes, such as baked beans on toast, provides all the essential amino acids found in a typical meat dish.
Protein foods
Some food sources of dietary protein include:
lean meats – beef, lamb, veal, pork, kangaroo
poultry – chicken, turkey, duck, emu, goose, bush birds
fish and seafood – fish, prawns, crab, lobster, mussels, oysters, scallops, clams
eggs
dairy products – milk, yogurt (especially Greek yogurt), cheese (especially cottage cheese)
nuts (including nut pastes) and seeds – almonds, pine nuts, walnuts, macadamias, hazelnuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds
legumes and beans – all beans, lentils, chickpeas, split peas, tofu.
Some grain and cereal-based products are also sources of protein but are generally not as high in protein as meat and meat alternative products.
How to get your Protein needs?
Your daily protein needs can easily be met by following the Australian Dietary Guidelines. The Guidelines group foods into five different food groups, each of which provides key nutrients.
The two main food groups that contribute to protein are the:
‘lean meat and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds, and legumes/beans group
‘milk, yogurt, cheese and/or alternatives (mostly reduced fat)’ group.
As part of a healthy diet, the Guidelines recommend particular serves per day from each of the five food groups.
The human body can’t store protein and will excrete any excess, so the most effective way of meeting your daily protein requirement is to eat small amounts at every meal.
So, what is a serve? The standard serving size of ‘lean meat and poultry, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds, and legumes/beans’ is one of:
65g cooked lean meats such as beef, lamb, veal, pork, goat, or kangaroo (about 90 to 100g raw)
80g cooked lean poultry such as chicken or turkey (100g raw)
100g cooked fish fillet (about 115g raw weight) or one small can of fish
2 large eggs
1 cup (150g) cooked dried beans, lentils, chickpeas, split peas, or canned beans (preferably with no added salt)
170g tofu
30g nuts, seeds, peanut or almond butter or tahini or other nut or seed paste (no added salt).
A serve of ‘milk, yogurt, cheese and/or alternatives (mostly reduced fat)’ could include:
250ml (1 cup) fresh, UHT long life, reconstituted powdered milk or buttermilk
120ml (1/2 cup) evaporated milk
200g (3/4 cup or 1 small carton) yogurt
40g (2 slices) hard cheese such as cheddar
120g (1/2 cup) ricotta cheese.
Protein requirements for children and teenagers change as they grow. Read about the recommended number of serves for children, adolescents, and toddlers for all 5 food groups.
Getting more protein into your day, naturally
If you’re looking for ways to get more protein into your diet, here are some suggestions:
Try a peanut butter sandwich. Remember to use natural peanut butter (or any other nut paste) with no added salt, sugar, or other fillers.
Low-fat cottage or ricotta cheese is high in protein and can go in your scrambled eggs, casserole, mashed potato, or pasta dish. Or spread it on your toast in the morning.
Nuts and seeds are fantastic in salads, with vegetables and served on top of curries. Try toasting some pine nuts or flaked almonds and putting them in your green salad.
Beans are great in soups, casseroles, and pasta sauces. Try tipping a drained can of cannellini beans into your favorite vegetable soup recipe or casserole.
A plate of hummus and freshly cut vegetable sticks as a snack or hummus spread on your sandwich will give you easy extra protein at lunchtime.
Greek yogurt is a protein-rich food that you can use throughout the day. Add some on your favorite breakfast cereal, put a spoonful on top of a bowl of pumpkin soup or serve it as a dessert with some fresh fruit.
Eggs are a versatile and easy option that can be enjoyed on their own or mixed in a variety of dishes.
Getting too little protein (protein deficiency)
Protein deficiency means not getting enough protein in your diet. Protein deficiency is rare in Australia, as the Australian diet generally includes far more protein than we actually need. However, protein deficiency may occur in people with special requirements, such as older people and people following strict vegetarian or vegan diets.
Symptoms of protein deficiency include:
wasting and shrinkage of muscle tissue
edema (build-up of fluids, particularly in the feet and ankles)
anemia (the blood’s inability to deliver sufficient oxygen to the cells, usually caused by dietary deficiencies such as lack of iron)
slow growth (in children).
Protein – maintaining muscle mass as you age
From around 50 years of age, humans begin to gradually lose skeletal muscle. This is known as sarcopenia and is common in older people. Loss of muscle mass is worsened by chronic illness, poor diet, and inactivity.
Meeting the daily recommended protein intake may help you maintain muscle mass and strength. This is important for maintaining your ability to walk and reducing your risk of injury from falls.
To maintain muscle mass, it’s important for older people to eat protein ‘effectively’. This means consuming high-quality protein foods, such as lean meats.
Protein shakes, powders, and supplements
Protein shakes, powders and supplements are unnecessary for most Australians’ health needs. According to the most recent national nutrition survey, 99% of Australians get enough protein through the food they eat.
Any protein you eat on top of what your body needs will either be excreted from your body as waste, or stored as weight gain.
The best way for you to get the protein you need is to eat a wide variety of protein-rich foods as outlined in the Australian Dietary Guidelines, as part of a balanced diet. But if you are still interested in using protein shakes, powders and supplements, talk to your doctor.
Protein and exercise
Soon after exercising, it’s recommended that you have a service of high-quality protein (such as a glass of milk or tub of yogurt) with a carbohydrate meal to help maintain your body’s protein balance. Studies have shown this to be good for you, even after low to moderate aerobic exercise (such as walking), particularly for older adults.
People who exercise vigorously or are trying to put on muscle mass do not need to consume extra protein. High-protein diets do not lead to increased muscle mass. It’s the stimulation of muscle tissue through exercise, not extra dietary protein, which leads to muscle growth.
Studies show that weight-trainers who do not eat extra protein (either in food or protein powders) still gain muscle at the same rate as weight-trainers who supplement their diets with protein.
Very high protein diets are dangerous
Some fad diets promote very high protein intakes of between 200 and 400g per day. This is more than five times the amount recommended in the Australian Dietary Guidelines.
The protein recommendations in the Guidelines provide enough protein to build and repair muscles, even for bodybuilders and athletes.
A very high-protein diet can strain the kidneys and liver. It can also prompt excessive loss of the mineral calcium, which can increase your risk of osteoporosis.

The cheapest protein source in India
Proteins are very essential macronutrients for the human body. They are responsible for muscle growth. For this reason, they are considered as building blocks of the body. This is the reason why most gym-goers include a lot of protein in their diet. Your body requires protein, even if you don’t work out.
General recommendations say that a normal healthy person requires approximately 50 – 60 grams of protein for both men and women. When you talk about gym and protein. The first thing that comes to your mind is protein supplements. However, they are more costly and many people cannot afford them. Let me make you clear that, to build muscle you don’t need any supplement.
The body absorbs protein as a whole. Your body doesn’t bother about the source it comes from. There are several alternatives and many cheapest high protein foods available in India.
In this article, I’ll tell you what protein is and the 5 cheapest protein sources in India, with cost per gram of protein.
As I said earlier, proteins are a very important macronutrient for the human body same as carbohydrates and fats. Every cell in the body has protein in it. It helps the body to recover, repair, and build cells and tissues. It is clear that proteins are responsible for muscle growth and hence they are considered as building blocks of the body. Protein is made up of a long chain of 20 amino acids. The specific order of amino acids arranged in a long chain determines the structure and function of each protein.
These food sources provided in this article are easily available in the Indian market and are the cheapest protein source in India.
1. Soya chunks:
Soya chunks are also called ‘vegetarian’s meat’. They are the byproducts left after extracting soybean oil from soya seeds. Soya chunks are full of polyunsaturated fats, omega 3 fatty acids, proteins and they are also rich in calcium and iron while providing no extra sugar or sodium to the body. Soya chunks are a good protein source for vegetarians.
Total calories per 100 grams of soya chunks: 345 calories
Cost per 100 grams of soya chunks: 20 INR approximately.
Protein per 100g: 52 grams
Cost per 1 gram of protein: 0.4 INR approximately.
However, soya on the other side is one of the most controversial food items these days. Having too much soya or other soy products can increase estrogen and uric acid levels in your body. If you consume soy regularly, you’re more likely to develop female characteristics of the body. An increase in uric acid levels may also damage your liver and kidneys. Therefore, it is safe to only have 25 to 30 grams of soya chunks per day. Eating within these limits will not increase estrogen levels and uric acid levels in the body.
2. Eggs:
Eggs are the most affordable and easily available protein on the earth. Including eggs in your diet has several health benefits. One large egg contains 18 different vitamins and minerals. This is also among the most controversial food items. Many people consume only egg whites and throw away the most nutritious part ‘egg yolk’ for the only reason, it contains fat and cholesterol.
However, the cholesterol present in egg yolk is dietary cholesterol. It does not interfere with blood cholesterol levels. There are no general recommendations on egg consumption. You can have up to 6 whole eggs in a day. The only thing you’ve to do is, keep a note on your fat consumption. If you eat more egg yolks, fat consumption in a day increases. As a result your daily calories also increase and you’re more likely to gain weight.
Cost of an egg: 5 INR
Total calories: 78 calories.
Protein in 1 whole egg: 6 grams
Cost per 1 gram protein: 0.83 INR
Click here to know the difference between a white egg and a brown egg.
3. Chicken breast: Chicken is the most common poultry available in the world. It is not only the best non-veg protein source, but it also contains fat in the lowest proportion compared to its counterparts. If you are looking for a lean protein, then the chicken breast is your go. It is also a good source of vitamin B, vitamin D, calcium, iron, zinc. Chicken contains healthier fats than those found in red meat. Usually, chicken breasts are higher in cost compared to wings and thighs. If you can afford few extra rupees, I would recommend you to go for boneless chicken breast.
Total calories per 100g of chicken breast: 120 calories
Cost per 100g: 25 – 30 INR
Protein per 100g: 23 grams
Cost per 1g protein: 1 rupee approximately
4. Green moong:
Green moong is also called mung bean. This is the most nutritious and less exposed food. This is the cheapest protein source in India. It is a plant species in the legume family and is mainly cultivated in the Indian subcontinent. It is a traditional ingredient in Indian cooking, often used in curries. Like other legumes, green moong is low in fat and high in protein and fiber. It is also a rich source of magnesium, iron, potassium, and vitamin B-6.
You can consume green moong either soaked or roasted. Soak it overnight in enough water. Remove the water in the morning and consume it directly or roast the dal directly on the pan on a low flame for 1 minute. Wash and soak the mung beans in enough water for an hour and use as per recipe requirements.
Total calories per 100 grams: 334 calories
Cost per 100 grams: 10 INR
Protein per 100 grams: 24 grams
Cost per 1 gram protein: 0.41 INR
5. Milk:
If you are looking for a complete protein other than chicken, here’s milk. Female mammals produce milk to feed their young since evolution. It is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. It provides potassium, B12, calcium, and vitamin D, and is also a good source of vitamin A, magnesium, zinc, and thiamine (B1). Additionally, it’s an excellent source of protein and contains hundreds of different fatty acids, including conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and omega-3s.
The nutritional content of milk varies, depending on factors like its fat content and the cow’s feed and treatment of the cow it came from. For instance, milk from grass-fed cows contains significantly higher amounts of conjugated linoleic acid, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants, such as vitamin E and beta-carotene, which help reduce inflammation and fight oxidative stress.
If you are too cautious about your daily fat intake, then I suggest you go ahead with skimmed milk. Other forms of milk such as flavored milk are always a NO as they contain sugar in huge amounts. A glass of milk (250ML) can serve to be a good protein option. Either it is fat loss or weight gain, including a glass of milk at any time of the day.
Total calories in 250ML skimmed milk: 105 calories
Cost for 250ML: 10 INR
Protein in 250ML: 9 grams
Cost for 1gram of protein: 1.1 INR
The conclusion
The 5 cheapest protein sources suggested in this article are completely on my experience. You can add these foods to your daily diet to get enough protein. These foods are not to treat or cure any disease. Consult your doctor before changing your diet patterns. The cost of these foods may vary a little depending on your location.
