“I didn’t realize Alex wasn’t the heir,” Carlos says quietly. He’s not really sure why. Maybe he just wants to talk to TK instead of continuing on with their solitary activities.

TK peeks an eye open, looking over at him before humming in acknowledgement. He doesn’t say anything else, but he pushes himself more upright and rubs at his eyes.

“But you’ll be King one day,” Carlos adds, and this time when TK finds his gaze, he holds it.

Carlos has known this, but he never really considered what it meant. Owen seems strong and healthy. It won’t always be that way though. One day, TK will be in charge of all of Austonia. Carlos can’t even imagine what that must feel like.

“When my father dies, yes,” he says somewhat formally like he’s wearing the mask of Prince Tyler instead of TK.

“Is that what you want?”

TK’s gaze turns sharp. “Funny that you think I have a choice.”

Carlos frowns. “So it’s not something you’d choose.”

“I didn’t say that,” TK remarks. “Clearly you didn’t want to follow in your father’s footsteps, but I would love to. It would be an honor.”
