The theme of day 14 of Genreuary is Isekai, which I found out that Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Narnia, and the Wonderful Wizard of Oz are the early examples of the Isekai genre. Isekai is a subgenre of fantasy where a character is transported to a new world. 

Here’s the trolls characters, plus my OCs doing Symphonia Theater’s rendition of The Wiz, the retelling of L. Frank Baum's children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in the context of contemporary African-American culture. It was made into a movie in 1978 by Universal Studios and Motown Productions starring Diana Ross, Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross, Mabel King, Theresa Merritt, Thelma Carpenter, Lena Horne and Richard Pryor, introducing Michael Jackson, and it was also made into a 2015 live television adaptation by NBC on December 3, 2015 and got a broadway revival in 2024.

In the production, CJ Suki, who already became an adolescent alongside Priscilla and Keith, takes on the role as Dorothy Gale, a young orphan from Brooklyn, New York who went to live in Kansas with Uncle Henry Gale (played by Demo) and his pregnant wife, Aunt Emily “Em” Gale (played by DJ Suki). Dorothy couldn’t get over the pain and loss of her parents, who died in a car accident and had a hard time fitting in Kansas. A tornado whisked her and her dog, Toto (played by Mr. Dinkles) to the mysterious land of Oz, where her house crushed Evamean, the Wicked Witch of the West, which freed the enslaved Munchkins and met the optimistic Addaperle, the Good Witch of the North (played by my OC, Twilight) who tells her to go see the Wiz (played by Lownote Jones), a wizard who can help her get back home while obtaining the silver shoes. As Dorothy goes in search of the Wiz, she's joined by the Scarecrow (played by Clay), who wanted brains, the Tin Man (played by Synth), who wanted a heart because he is a failed creation of Evamean that was abandoned for being a “failure”, and the Cowardly Lion (played by Blaze Powerchord), who wishes for courage. As they go on adventures together, they soon learn about themselves more than what they wished for while Dorothy overcomes her grief and learns to move on from her parents’ death.

Oz itself in the production is based on the different parts of Africa with vernacular architecture, vibrant colors, and bold patterns. The land of the East has avian imagery with the Munchkins’ blue costumes having wing details and feather work while the architecture is based on the traditional bamboo houses and ancient cities in Ethiopia like Gondar, while the yellow land of the West, which is ruled by Evilene, the Wicked Witch of the West, has crocodile, hippo, fish, dolphin, whale, and sea turtle imagery, which were actually hidden with hyena imagery (since the wicked witch herself hates water), the Winkies wear pearl and coral jewelry with water lily flowers and they add scale patterns on their clothes, which were hidden in jumpsuits and hooded cloaks, which were chained until they remove them after Dorothy defeats Evilene by throwing a bucket of water, and the architecture has west African and Afro-Caribbean influence since I imagined the western part of Oz would be a seaside region. I imagined the purple colored Gilikin region, which is protected and ruled by Addaperle has domed and cylindrical, or rectangular architecture with antelope, elephant, rhinoceros, and other land animals with its fashion being embellished with flowers and vines, and it has a school that is known for training witches and wizards alike, while for the Quadling Region, which is ruled by Glinda, the Good Witch of the South (played by Twilight’s twin sister, Aurora) who is also its protector, has southern African influence in its architecture and the red fashion of the Quadlings with lion, and wild cat imagery that were found in Africa. I also thought of the land of Oz in The Wiz would have ancient Egyptian designs all around it, since it’s the first civilization in the continent, and it can be seen in the good witches’ fashion and the different places in Oz, especially in the Emerald City, which would have a cyberpunk Afro futuristic aesthetic.

This one took me long to finish this but it was worth it.

Idea for the next tour;

Put La Mantra Mori on the setlist.

Give it entirely to the Ghouls so no Papa on stage.

Swiss, Cirrus, Cumulus and Aurora all harmonise the first few repetitions.

Then they all get a few each as a solo and they can do whatever they want with it (key, belting, vibrato or straight tone etc.)

Then they come together and harmonise again at the end.

Individual Ghoul appreciation (kinda like the Respite solos), and Papa gets a break.

I finally finished the cover for book 3 of the Snack Pack Life. I couldn’t fit the new characters in the picture so I decided to sort them in dreamed photos in the background.

Plot: The Snack Pack are back bitches! Branch, his girlfriend Poppy, and her best friend, Rose are ready for another series of misadventures of a lifetime with their bandmates. With Branch reuniting with his four older brothers, Diego Huitztecol Rivera a.k.a John Dory, Bruce Matlalihhuitl Rivera a.k.a Spruce, Carlos Ozomatli Rivera a.k.a Clay, and Felipe Tenoch Rivera a.k.a Floyd, whom Rose had met when she was barely three years old, Poppy discovers that she has a twin sister named Victoria Monteiro a.k.a Viva, and Rose was shocked to learn that she has a younger brother and younger twin sisters, Luis “Linden” Madrigal, Aurora and Twyla “Twilight” Madrigal. (bonus prompt 4) Doing each other's makeup

Cw; very implied sexual business, but it's Aurora making fun of Swiss

notes; i took a liberty in the prompt and chose for a one sided "doing makeup" because i thought it would come out cuter. I was right! thanks as always to @forlorn-crows for the prompts list.

Aurora leaned far in her chair, centimeters away from the mirror as she put the finishing touches on her eyeliner. She was in an absolute state of calmness, this being her personal meditation. When there was a knock at her door, she didn’t flinch or pause. She called out to let them in.

The door opened and closed, socked feet making the ghoul known, but they said nothing. Aurora internally frowned, still focused on the task at hand.

She paused and glanced through the mirror to find Aeon, their arms folded and rubbing against each other in the way she knew meant they were nervous. She smiled and swiveled in her chair, capping the eyeliner.

“What’s up, doll?” She tilted her head. 

They shrugged, their eyes casted down to the floor. “I wanted to ask you somethin’.”

She hummed, indicating to them to continue. They opened their mouth to speak, before closing it back again. They sighed, annoyed at themselves. 

“Hey, this is a no judgment zone.” Aurora waved her arms around, gesturing towards the entirety of her room. “Even if it’s a murder, I won’t bat an eye. What’s going on?”

That made them chuckle, and they shook their head. “No, it’s not murder.”

She nodded along, eyes curious. “So…?”

“So,” They took in a deep breath and closed their eyes tight, “I was wondering- um, your makeup. You and the other… girls, use it.”

“Yes, we do.” She bared her fangs in an exaggerated grin. “Makes us feel pretty.”

“I…” they nodded to themselves, “I would like… to feel pretty.”

Aurora blinked, quiet as her head tilted to the other side. “You wanna feel pretty with us?”

Aeon swallowed. “Swiss said it could be good for me. To try.”

Aurora snorted and swiveled back to her desk, picking through her assortment of makeup tools and products. “Yeah, Swiss would know.”

She looked behind her shoulder to find Aeon still standing at the door, posture awkward and eyes hesitant. She waved them over with a click of her tongue.

“C’mon, gorgeous, let’s make you pretty.”

The two of them spent an hour sitting face to face, a CD playing in the background. Aurora hummed and sang along to the lyrics while she wasn’t breathing in Aeon’s face. It was the most focused they’d ever seen her, even when their eyes closed her scent and aura were calm and collected. She poked and prodded at their face, eyes, and brows. She managed to convince them to put on fake lashes, despite hissing at the mascara. 

“And…” she sprayed their face in a fine mist, making them flinch back and frown deeply. “Done! But hold still for a second.”

They kept the face as she fanned her hands in front of them, which in turn made her giggle.

“Alright, look.” 

They blinked their eyes open, the fake lashes a weird sensation on their eyes. She promised them taking them off later would be near orgasmic, and they’d have to believe her for now. They hurried to look into the mirror Aurora was holding up, gasping at the ghoul in front of them.

“Holy shit.” They murmured. 

“Right?!” She nearly screamed. They chuckled.

She opted against foundation and concealer, but kept with the blush and eyeshadow. The pink of the blush made their skin shimmer against the brash lighting at her desk, small flakes of glitter shining throughout their cheeks. She picked a deep red for their eyeshadow, something to contrast their purple skin. Even on the white portion of their face, it was like it was meant to be. The lashes weren’t as big as they’ve seen Cumulus’, but big enough that it made their eyes pop. The lipgloss she chose for them was red tinted, not enough to hide their lips but enough to make a difference.

“Holy shit.” They repeated, louder.

“I know!” She nodded with enthusiasm. 

“I’m so pretty.” They broke eye contact with themselves to look over at Aurora, who was absolutely gushing over their new look.

“Wanna go show Swiss?” The sudden glint in her eyes and turn of her fangs made their insides flip at the prospect. “I’m sure he’d agree.”

They smiled with her and nodded. “Yes.”
