wanted to clarify that this isn’t about how Auri and Tyler are treated but about Kal and Saedii. if the Pull chose someone who was abusive they would be societally pressured to stay :( Auri and Tyler are given a lot of choice as partners who don’t experience the pull, but Syldrathi don’t really have that choice and it makes me sad

Auri not being pressured into it is handled well, but it just upsets me that Kal doesn’t get to choose to love her after having a crush, getting to know her, and then deciding he wants to spend his life with her — he’s just told the moment he meets her that he’s expected to

did some pondering and I think the reason I always shipped Kal/Tyler and thereby broke up Kal/Auri and Tyler/Saedii is because I really don't like soulmate tropes

they make me uncomfortable. the idea of not being able to choose who you're with or who you love is terrible and I hate it. like what if your "fated partner" was abusive, like in the case of Kal's mother, who had to suffer that? I choose to love my husband every single day and it's a choice that brings me immense joy and comfort and if it wasn't a choice it wouldn't be the same.

sue me, I hate soulmate tropes, they make my skin crawl. so yeah anyway Kal/Typer for the win

-has a wildly successful account on the 2380 version of tiktok where she does cooking content and usually tells a story while she does it

-usually, there's clips of kal trying what she made at the end, but he can only be heard off camera (he's camera shy)

-is not scared of the syldrathi at the new syldrathi rebuilding movement

-loves miffy and hello kitty

-i think this is canon but she cries. a lot.

-fin is her ride or die bestie and they play animal crossing together. they usually whack each other with their nets and plant pitfall seeds outside each other's doors

-reads irish blessings during milestone events, for example, when she and kal moved into their house

-super outdoorsy! she loves to kayak, hike, rock climb, etc.

-she takes on a role as a geologist for the rebuilding movement and determines what sort of natural resources are available on the colony planet (ores, precious gems, good dirt for planting things)

ok so all of squad 312 (- auri) has their "tragic backstory" (lyergia plague, parents death, etc) and then a few years later tey joinn the aurora academy, but what happened in between?

bc like, Zila's parents died when she was 6, but she joined after she turned 13, so, was she in the care system, she's still never been to earth, was the care system in space? is there an intergalactic care system? did she still go to school? she talks about "i learnt everything i need to know when i was 6", so did her teachers, try to accomodate that?
