Patching holes in Descendants lore - the origins of Auradon
I think we all agree that the Disney movies didnât and couldnât have happened all in the same era and are based in different areas (although itâs hard to dermine which ones in some cases, like Agrabah or the mix-and-match that is Kumandra), not to mention the multiple iteration of places like, say, London.
How to explain this in canon? I have a few theories, based on actual Disney events, feel free to pick one:
Cinderella 3: when Lady Tremaine used the wand to reverse time, she messed with time-space, which led to a mixup of worlds.
Sophia the First: when the amulet of Avalor was broken and Elena was freed, all the energy it used to channel the princesses so Sophia could meet them released and messed up the world, so everything merged in a single time.
Disenchanted: when Giselleâs wish died down it still had some aftereffects on all the fairytalesâ worlds, copying the technology from our world but also pulling places distant in time and space all together (this is possibly my favourite theory).
Theory 1 makes a lot of sense, tbh, because it erases all the sequels except, in fact, Cinderella 3, while being a clean-cut explanation. It, unfortunately, doesnât explain the technological advancement that is wildly beyond any Disney canon (save for Big Hero 6, but BH6 is even forth so that doesnât work either). This could also explain why such a severe sentence was picked for Lady Tremaine (she stole the wand, petrified Fairy Godmother, broke important laws of magic, tricked the royals...), although it doesnât work for Anastasia who, instead, redeemed herself a lot in that very movie.
The Sophia world is the only one that implies all the stories happened for real in the same world as she has Merlin, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather as teachers; (provided theyâre immortal or nearly so, meaning they could have outlived their charges and went on teaching new generations of young royals) and references directly to the official princesses up to the 2018 lineup. But Sophiaâs world has lots and lots of other kingdoms and it would poise logistic problems in storytelling because itâs hard to make it all fit (but if you know the series well, unlike me, you can make it work).
Personally, Iâd go with Disenchanted: Andalasia was a fairytale world with unknown neighbours (to us, but Giselle heard of dwarvesâ hospitality and other stuff...), separated by magic borders or just too distant from each other, some of those could be homes of stories from roughly the same era (I suppose we can consider Rapunzel and Frozen as a pair, the Little Mermaid could fit in the same times as Cinderella, while Snow White, Aladdin, Mulan and Sleeping Beauty belong to an older era, Pochaontas and Princess and the Frog must be of different eras, and so on...). The wish pulled everything together and they all had to navigate the situation from there on, inheriting the technology from our world but keeping the original stories.
Most importantly, in all cases, it pulled back the dead Villains. Or it pulled some and those ones figured out they could revive others to form an army to control the new world. Anyway, hereâs the origins of Auradon as a composite land.
In another post I put together the info we have on other matters (excluding, for obvious reasons, Pocketwatch, which canât and wonât be considered canon) such as the beginning of Auradon Prep or the supposed war against the Villains so I wonât repeat it all here.
As far as this post goes, I suppose we can say that this explains many of the plot holes and incongruencies, including the mention of Merida having been an Auradon Prep student in the last book.

Since all the trash is going to the isle, that means thereâs no landfills in Auradon, right.
So did Auradon tell everyone (general public) what they were doing with their trash, or did they say that the trash was going to landfills and then not do anything to make it believable? Like, is there a conspiracy that everyone knows is true going around? lol

I dispise Disney as a corporation but gosh damnit if I didnt have my gay awakening at 9 years old thanks to Uma then idk who I'd be now. The Descendants movies are honestly the only Disney Channel-afied movies that I have somewhat actively made a point to eventually binge when they came out.
But the new Rise of Red movie was not on my list. I did however make an acception as the lesbian in me needed to watch Joshua Colley in eyeliner be a dancing pirate.
And now I have accidentally become aware of lore bcs my DnD plot infested mind works in mysterious ways.
A lot of the fairytale stories' motivations make a lot more sense when theyre put into a highschool/university perspective. Like the Cinderella meeting prince charming at the Castle coming dance after being grounded makes sense. And then also the idea that it was bullying that made the villains villains.
Highschool is wild
And from what I can tell so is Uni.
So this got me thinking. The villains werent isolated that long ago. The movement was short lived meaning something had to spur it on. We now know that Morgana had a son who went to Merlin Academy. Does the inevitable foiling of Morganas plans have anything to do with the future state of Auradon as shown in the first three movies? Not directly but in a movement that happened when the VKs and other fairytale characters and their spawn started growing resentment toward eachother?
Does something happen with Merlin that leads to Auradon's school existing? Is there a period of time that slowly becomes more hostile toward the Villains as they try to now save themselves but their efforts to undo one bad reputation is making it worse? Is this prank at the ball and other incidents followed by a period where the villains are more and more pushed against and then they get sent to the isle?
Bcs if the new movie is now lore that disney will stick by, that means the new rise of red movie might have actually been an insane (if badly produced) lore drop for the cannon Descendants universe. And that begs the question. Are the VK's redemption in the og movies going to make an insane lot of sense now?
(also Hook had his hook which means the peter pan thing already happened. So tf happened? Does he have a brother who is peter pan? Is peter pan not at the school but used to be? Did he used to go to a different school and then transferred? Lile his story us pretty much done already wouldbt it be? Or is it actively happening over the course of years? Like tf is the lore. Bcs I need it.)

A detailed analysis about the exact location of the united states of auradon
I am deeply annoyed and intrigued by the mystery that is the exact location of auradon so i spent a few days reshearching
this zoom out scene suggests that auradon is on Earth and from the photo they used it seems like the museum and therefore auradon itself is in South East Africa. I think this is the photo they used
Plants are my specialty so iâm gonna aproach this from a botanistâs standpoint assuming that magick doesnât affect the greenery.
In did I mention, the date / if only and the forest scenes in d3 we see some of the flora of the area which includes species of oaks, firs, ferns, rubus, clematis and pteridium plants, im pretty sure the flowers by the lake are Ipomea purpurea and generally tall productive deciduous trees.
that is very much temperate climate flora
Temperate climate is rare in Africa with exceptions in high altitudes BUT Auradon has many islands incuding The Isle of the Lost so Africa is eliminated and we can assume the mirror is just a sassy bitch and showed whatever angle of Earth it wanted.
So, weâre left with the northeast americas, europe, southeast australia, the korean peninsula and the eastern part of china.Â
In the descendants wiki it says that Olympus is north of the Great wall...i know everything is scrambled up in that universe buuuuut both the topography of the area around the actual mount. olympus and a specific lake near the actual Great wall are very similar to the official map (bodies of water, peninsulas with narrow connections to the main land, a few islands, high altitude mountains further up etc.)
In conclusion from now on I headcanon the United States of Auradon are either in greece or in china...Â

NO NO NO, ITâS NOT JUST THAT MERLIN ACAD IS FILLED WITH MAGIC THOUGH!!!!! WONDERLAND ALSO IS OPERATING ON IT IN BOTH TIMELINES!!!!! So, itâs still absolutely used elsewhere, and Auradon, HAD NO OTHER ANTI-MAGIC PRECAUTIONS THIS WHOLE TIME??????
The United States of Auradonâs constrained magic laws are mere suggestions at best. They do Nothing to protect their citizens, other than hiding away the weapons themselves. But everyone absolutely could still learn magic, and just like BOTH Audrey AND Bridget showed, could EASILY coup. And despite knowing the dangers of magic, itâs clear Mal and Ben have yet to reverse and of Beastâs horrific masquerades for protective magic measures
I'm watching Rise of Red, and I have so much to say, but for now I'll settle for saying:
Is SOMEOME going to point out that Merlin Academy is obviously filled with magic?? Wich seems to be forbbiden in Auradon currently?? The principal and creator of the school is probably the most powerful magic user in universe, and they have classes like Alchemy? Fairy Godmother and other students can just be in the open practicing with magic wands and is no issue?
They just keep making Beast look like the worst ruler lmao

More Reasons Rise of Red was way more disappointing than I hoped
The casting announcements of all the young heroes and heroines being so hyped up only for them to be used in a single song and as reaction fodder, having any other scenes they were in cut down or not even used.
The friendship between Red and Chloe was wayyy too rushed, even for Disney standards. Every moment just felt really forced, even when they did make up at the end.
Also, really wish they got more than one outfit each, even the original VK's got to have multiple outfits in the 1st Descendants. Like, how did the two princesses of all people not have enough pocket money on them to get new clothes in the past?
Listen, I adore Dara ReneĂŠÂ but I hated that they made her the sibling to a villain instead of just making her an OG Villain. I would have been okay with the sibling thing if she had been Morgana from Little Mermaid 2 so that she was already part of the Disney lore instead of a newly conceived villainess just for this trilogy
I also hate that Maleficent, the aforementioned WORST VILLAIN in all of Auradon, was reduced to just a semi-goth sidekick with literally 2 lines.
I really wish that we could have seen the Castlecoming dance or what kind of prank was actually being pulled on Bridget, but i will concede on those instances possibly happening in the next movie.
ok that's all i have to complain about for now byeeeeee :]

Patching holes in Descendants lore - Auradon Prepâs foundation
Iâve had a stray thought about Descendants. Well, not really a stray thought, I mean, it started from the Pocketwatch nonsense (theyâll have to explain me how is it that Charming, Aladdin and Jasmine are the same age as Maleficent who should be the same age as Leah, and how is it that thereâs a teen Hades who is a god and his story should have started ages before??? Whatever, Pocketwatch isnât canon anyway) and the Merlin school (?!?!), which brought me to think about the Princess Academy (you know, as in the fan webseries on YouTube).
Now, in Princess Academy itâs implied the princesses reunited in there to share knowledge and learn how to be actual princesses. The presence of Giselle seems to imply that was a time after she and Edward met where she was sent to the PA to learn stuff before her marriage, which totally makes sense... or it would if they actually learned State welfare, advanced economics, diplomacy and stuff.
Which led me to think of Auradon Prep. Canon says Auradon Prep was instituted by King Beast, and that Adam and Belle married when he was 28, 7 years after his curse was broken. Itâs reasonable to think that during those 7 years lots of stuff happened. I already talked about the Villainsâ Takeover, and the possible war, and the reason the castle was made into a school to begin with, here I want to add a few other things.
Itâs reasonable that the princesses (and princes) would need a formal education in ruling. The ones who used to be commoners like Cinderella, Belle and Tiana had no preparation whatsoever, full stop. Born princesses like Snow White, Aurora and Rapunzel were raised in completely different environments than they should have. Ariel, though she is royalty by birth, comes from an underwater realm and knew nothing of human politics, and same goes for Moana, Raya and Kida who had an upbringing that is nothing alike to that of european ruling style, the one Auradon is loosely based on (the fact I think Auradon should be more like the EU than USA factors a lot in this reconstruction). The only ones I can think had a formal education as future rulers are Merida (we see it in canon), Elsa and possibly Anna, Elena (of Avalor), and perhaps Jasmine (provided the Sultan didnât assume her husband would take over and didnât bother having her educated in ruling). Some of the princes, like Aladdin, Eugene, Milo, and Kristoff started as commoners so theyâd have no such education either and I think some of the born princes may need a refresh on some stuff.
Besides, theyâre all pretty young arenât they? (Save for Milo, I think Milo is the oldest Disney prince since heâs 32. Iâd have to check for others, but Iâm pretty sure heâs the eldest).
So, the making of a school to help the young rulers of a new nation-alliance makes sense. The name itself is a giveaway, Auradon Prep, short for Preparatory School. It either was made right after the merge of realities (I have another post about this facet) or it could have started as a refuge during the conflict with the Villains: they picked a castle where the Heroes could regroup and train for the final confrontation, and then the castle was converted to a proper school and the training activities became sports (you know, like hunting was a war training exercise for nobles in ancient times). It also makes sense that Adam, who owned that castle, decided to convert it to a school for his allies and later their children.

My Descendants oc's - Vk's
My list of Descendants vk oc's and the ages they'll be at the start of my descendants rewrite (if I ever get around to writing it) and their other parent if I have an idea of who it is. I'm headcanoning that D1 starts in early September 2014 & the country of Auradon is in a very tropical zone - which is why it seems like it's always summer or spring there. Also, the country is called the United Kingdoms of Auradon, because it makes more sense to me. & was formed June-August 1994. August is when they revived & shipped the villains off and when the anniversary of the Isle happens. (nothing's celebrated that day, it's just noted.)
Maleficent Fae: Mal, 15, other parent is Hades.
She's pretty much the same as in the movies. I'll be honest, I don't fully like the idea of Hades being her father, but I also got no other ideas.
Hades: Mal, 15, other parent is Maleficent. Hadie, 9, Persephone.
For Hades, I'm headcanoning that he isn't actually trapped on the isle because the other gods need him running the underworld since they don't want to do it. So, to appease Belle & Adam, they told Hades to go hang out on the isle, and he has a backdoor entrance in the cave to go back to the underworld to run it occasionally. He sees staying on the isle as a sort of vacation. Also, Olympus in my view is only allied with Auradon, not part of it.
Cruella: Carlos DeVil, 14, other parent is Clayton.
I think he maybe doesn't know his other parent for certain, but Cruella always said that it was one of the adult hunters of the isle (Ratcliffe, Gaston, and Clayton) and Ratcliffe's and Gaston's kids all look somewhat like their respective father, and he doesn't look like either, whereas Claytons kids don't look too much like him. Also - everyone on the isle knows Gaston wouldn't let one of his sons be raised by someone else.
Carlos's cousins - Diego, 17. Ivy, 20. Hunter, 19. I've never watched the movie that these three appear in, so I don't know how old they are supposed to be, but I like the idea of them, and I know Diego at least is mentioned in the books.
Evil Queen: Evelina "Evie" Grimhilde, 15.
Like in the movies, her mom put a heavy emphasis on her looking pretty and like a princess. Her father is one of the card soldiers, but a different one than one of the 4 that fathered the Queen of Hearts' kids.
Anastasia Tremaine: Anthony, 18. Eleanor, 16. Alfred, 15. Ambrosine, 10.
Father of all four is Edgar Balthazar. Anthony's father can't be the Baker because in my headcanon, the oldest isle kids were born 1 year after the barrier was put up.
Drizella Tremaine: Delphine, 16. Dominique, 14. Dezirae "Dizzy", 11. Daxton, 9. Devereaux, 6. Dixie, 2 1/2.
Their fathers are 1 of 2 of the male colonizers that came over with Ratcliffe. Lady Tremaine counts both her daughters kids together, and has them raised the way she wants.
She accepts the boys, but didn't want them (because she thinks they're harder to control) so she pays more attention to the girls and is (slightly) nicer to them.
Queen of Hearts: Red, Vermillion, and Ruby are 16. Carmine, Cherry, and Amaranth are 15. Burgundy, Fuchsia, and Scarlet are 14. Crimson, Maroon, and Chili pepper are 13.
She decided to name all her kids after different shades of red, and stopped having kids because she ran out of name ideas (also why she named one of her youngest kids chili pepper). Fathers are each a different card soldier.
Madam mim's grandkids: Maeve, Mabel, Millie, Maddy, Maverick, Meredith, Maddox, Minna, and Hans Jr.
Hans Jr's dad is Hans and was raised by him because mim wanted him less than the other boys. Like Lady Tremaine, she much prefers the girls over the boys. The father of the rest is unknown as well as ages, except Maddy & Hans Jr, they're both 16.
Ursula & Facilier: Uma, 15. Freda "Freddie", 14. Celia, 11.
Ursula and Facilier never lived together because they both had different business interests.
The kids all know about each other, Uma stayed with Ursula because she had clearly inherited her mother's powers while Freddie & Celia had both clearly inherited their father's, so they were sent to live with him. I'll explain in another post, but they are allowed in each other's territories because they are siblings.
John Ratcliffe - Rory, 17. Richard "Rick", 15. Jackson, 13. Jeremiah, 15.
I headcanon that 7 colonizers were sent to the isle with Ratcliffe - 4 men and 3 women. The women's names are Mary, Abigail, and Rebecca. Mary is Rick and Jackson's mom, Abigail is Rory and Jeremiah's.
Will Clayton - Clarence "Clay", 14. Carlos DeVil, 14. Caden, 12. Cadell, 8. Clay, Caden, and Cadell have the same mom.
Gaston Legume- Gaston "Junior" the second & Gaston "Bronze" the third, 18 year old twins. Gil, 15. Isabelle, 14. Azure, 12. Cordelia, 9.
Junior & Third's mom is Laurette, Gil's & Isabelle's mom is Claudette. Azure's mom is Redd the red-headed pirate and Cordelia's mom is Angelica Teach.
Gaston claimed Isabelle, but not his other two because Claudette allowed her daughter to be raised how he wanted - doing all the house chores. She has her mom & aunt's help with these chores though, and Gil does sew & repair clothes for the family - repairing his sister's clothes after she's worn them out is common for him.
Azure & Cordelia both live on the ships with their mom's. Neither of their moms let Gaston take them to raise them how he wanted, so obviously he has decided to disown them. Like I said with Carlos, if they had been boys, he might have fought harder to keep them.
I headcanon that Gaston wouldn't refuse to acknowledge his daughters because he thinks only women can do any of the housework - cleaning, cooking, sewing, etc. So he would acknowledge them so that they could do those things in his house (cabin), tavern, and in Duels without Rules.
Honestly, any daughters of his might be better off not being acknowledged by him - I just personally don't see him doing it.
Yzma: Zevon, 15 & Yzla, 12. Both potion makers.
Mother Gothel: Ginevra "Ginny", 18, Father is John Silver from the Caribbean. Hayley, 10, her father is Hans.
She was mostly raised by him because Gothel decided that an 8 year gap between kids was too soon to be raising another one.
However, she does occasionally go visit Hayley to give her lessons on manipulation.
Hayley is one of the major pranksters/jokesters of the isle. She can get a little mean with pranks, but that's mostly because her father encourages it - she'll chill with them with some time in Auradon.
Hans Westergaard: Hans Elliott Jr, 15. Hayley, 10.
Hans Jr's nickname around the isle is Helliot - a play on his first and middle name - because he looks and acts exactly like his father. He has also been called variations of Hellspawn.
He is one of the few kids that should never get off the isle, and is the only kid to have been banned from both Jafar's junk shop as well as Gaston's Tavern & shop.
(It was because he said that if the villains got out & took over, he was going to take one of their thrones and kill whoever's it was)
He also said something similar to Evie once, which got him banned from a lot more territories and excluded from hanging out with a majority of the isle kids
Jafar: Jay, 15 and Jasmine, 12. Layla, almost 2.
I like to headcanon that Jay is actually Aladdin & Jasmine's kid, and I decided to give him a sister who was stolen at the same time. Their real names are Ali & Esme - ages are the same.
Layla is actually his kid. Her mom is one of the female colonizers (Rebecca) & gave birth to her in Jafar's house because she didn't want her. She was kicked out within an hour or so of giving birth, then died from bleeding out because a 10 year old girl was made to help the baby come out. Jasi takes care of her mostly, but the other isle kids help out, especially Jay. And Harriet & Uma since they are kind of the moms of the isle kids.
Jasmine goes by Jasi or Jasima around the Isle because the name Jasmine is too princessy/prissy for her. Jafar and Jay are the only ones who are allowed to call her Jasmine - everyone else gets punished for that.
Jasi does most of the chores at home, but Jafar will occasionally cook when he's not running his shop and Jay helps with cleaning and laundry sometimes.
She was raised to act and look like Princess Jasmine - except quieter (but sometimes he wanted her to talk exactly like Jasmine). Spoiler - making her be quiet did not work because this is the isle where a ton of the women and girls are loud, strong, and independent and/or in charge in some way. Also - Jay.
She was also named heir of the isle at some point as well. And has gotten many etiquette lessons.
Jay, like in canon, was raised to be a street rat. He is also a great older brother.
Jafar mostly just ignored the two unless he was teaching them something. He never physically abused them, but he did threaten to. They are mostly ignored because he didn't want them, but kept them around once they were there because they were convenient workers for his shop & apartment.
Soon after the kidnapping is found out, Genie & Dalia will adopt Layla because they will be able to help her with any magic she got.
The adults of the isle either know or suspect that Jay & Jasi are not Jafar's. They either don't care or kept thinking that Auradon would search the isle eventually. (They never did or thought about it even) (Auradon only recently found out there were kids on the isle)
Nasira: Jade, 15. Don't know her dad. Gets along well with all the Agrabah kids on the isle. All the Agrabah kids on the isle get along, and theyâll all get along with Jordan and Aziz once they go to Auradon as well.
Captain James Hook: Harriet, 18. Harry, 15. CJ, 13.
Captain Hook is frequently called James Hook by the Vk's because Harriet is also a Captain hook, and they prefer her being a captain.
Their mom is one of the pirates on one of the adult pirate's crews.
Mr. Smee: Samuel "Sammy", 18. Simon "Squeaky", 11. Sergio "Squirmy", 11.
Former astronomer of Agrabah (Adnan): Reza, 14
One of Jafar's soldiers (name I decided is Sahila): Zaryan, 14 (I changed Zaryan's parentage to a different dad & had him live with his mom.)
Jafar picked & trained his allies and soldiers well, which is why only 2 of them are on the isle with him.
Lefou: Louis "Lefou deux", 14. His mom is someone who was hanging out around the tavern one day.
Claude Frollo: Claudine, 16. Her mom is Abigail, one of the colonizers
Claudine snapped one time and killed someone. (It was her father)
Claudine, Isabelle, and Jasi are also best friends close allies. They bond over teaching each other their native languages & complaining about their fathers.
Claudine and Isabelle both end up living on Harriet & Uma's pirate ships at some point and both get sent between them frequently.
Also, I'm using @panthera-tigris-venenata's headcanon about how Claude Frollo died in my rewrite.
More kids & parents: Desiree - Shan Yu & Calypso. Jonas - Barbossa. Gonzo - someone from James hook's crew. Bonnie - a random Hun & Calypso. There is also definitely a pirate VK named Peter somewhere.

Iâm thinking about the ROR timeline a little, which doesnât make a lot of sense BUT Iâm trying to figure out ages in my head:
- itâs been ten years since Descendants 1, so the year is 2025 when ROR takes place. Mal was born in 1999 making her 25-26, meaning the rest of the og cast is around there as well.
- itâs stated in film that Chad is playing Tourney for his university. I originally thought that was silly since thatâs really late to have a college sports career. BUT after some research, I learned that you can actually play in college sports for up to five years (or more with special circumstances). So itâs probably his last year playing before going pro or going into sports med or something. I also HC that both he and Audrey took a gap year between graduation and college to travel together so they went back to school later then everyone else.
- Chloe is attending Auradon Prep in ROR, and seeing as Queen Ella brings up past grades and extracurriculars, I can only assume itâs her second year attending, making her between 16-17 years old? This means she and Chad have at least 9-10 years age difference.
- I can only assume Red is around the same age as Chloe.
- Chloe was only 7-8 years old when Chad was preparing to graduate from Auradon Prep. Meaning Red was that age too when she and her Mom returned to Wonderland after being on the Isle of the Lost.
- So, seeing as Brandy currently is 45 years old real time, she had Chad at 18-19 years old, and Chloe in her early 30âs. (Assuming she is meant to be 45 in the series, idk)
- This means that Merlin Academy canât actually exist in the timeline/canon as we know it, as Belle and Beast wouldâve created Auradon when Ella was only 15 and still in school. However, it could be that the idea was still so new, seeing as Chloe and Red wouldâve gone back to the very first year of Auradonâs existence, that they may have literally just missed the shift of power to a high monarchy.
- Beast would be 28 during the events of the time travel sequence (since he married Belle at 28, 30 years before), and 58 during ROR main timeline.
- It could be that the villains were resurrected before Auradon came to be, put in school to try and rehabilitate them under Merlinâs watch, and then Beast just decided NAH and booted them off to the Isle right as Chloe and Red left back into their own time. Perhaps due to the cookbook incident? (I consider this piece of the lore to be a retcon as it makes 0 sense, but we can try).
- This would mean the time travel portion of ROR happens in/around 1995. Maleficent would be about 19 or so (same age as Ella) when she gave birth to Mal on the Isle three-ish years later.
- Ella was born in 1980.
- So, recap, ages during ROR: OG cast is 25-26 years old, Chloe and Red are 16-17 years old, Ella & Bridget, as well as Maleficent and Hades are around 45, Beast is pushing 60.
â
I have no idea if any of this makes sense or is even right? But this is kinda what I managed to figure out just thinking about it as logically as possible from the films alone.
I havenât read any of the books nor plan to do so, this is literally just me thinking about the series as a whole seeing as the creators are trying really hard to say ROR is somehow part of the canon. So, if you have any notes feel free to lmk, I probably missed something from the book lore that I donât care about lol.

addressing the elephant in the room:
if the queen of hearts was always in wonderland and was never on the isle then why were there businesses on the isle using her name?
well, simply: because someone faked it. a minor villain or henchman arrived on the isle and realised the only way to gain respect was to be a somebody and having realised none of the other villains had seen the queen of hearts in over a decade- they took their chance and began posing as the queen of hearts.
everyone was convinced and until the barrier dropped no-one had any idea that the person who had been posing as the queen of hearts- one of the major players of the isle turf wars and gang violence- wasn't actually the queen. by which point she had already fled and vanished into auradon.
at least, that's going to be my opinion on the subject because disney don't know their own lore.

I watched Descendants: Rise of Red. I like the characters a lot, especially Red. I think she's my favourite out of everyone.
I'm not the biggest fan of the costumes. I can look over the wigs because I never paid much attention to hair before. Though I do miss D1 when everyone in Auradon had natural hair colours while those on the Isle didn't. But anyhoo, not gonna talk about that!
We're talking about the clothes. I think there's only one outfit I genuinely loved and that was Teen Ella's outfit from "Get Your Hands Dirty" and then i also liked some of the VKs. I think my problem is with the colours. Like I get that every character always had a "colour" but with especially Red and Chloe, it feels like they really only got like various shades of one colour.
I wish the black was a bit more prominent on Red and Chloe got more colours besides blue and small pieces of gold. Like white maybe?
I still fucking HAAAAATE Descendants' world building with a passion. Hate that they all went to high school together. (I still got that lore rewrite from forever ago that I never finished and thats better than this!!!)
All-in-all, D4 is exactly what I thought it was gonna be minus the false(?) Ending, didn't see that coming. The characters definitely saved it from being completely dogshit tho.
Cuz we're flying high together on a magic carpet ride.... Each sold separately- batteries not included-~

So I watched the new Descendants movie and I have several thoughts but the important ones are the AU. (I've only seen the movies and read like two books so I'm ignoring characters I don't know LMAO)
Janus (son of Kaa, snake from Jungle Book), Virgil (son of Dr Faciliar, from Princess And The Frog), and Remus (son of Oogie Boogie from Nightmare Before Christmas) are in a gang on the Isle. They have their own little nook and territory they defend, they steal and cheat to get their way, they live as best they can in the terrible conditions. Janus lies, Virgil steals, Remus fights. It's how they do.
The barrier gets taken down and they're quite hesitant to leave. Eventually they wander over to Auradon and get situated at the school. The dorm rooms are only fit for two people to a dorm but Janus still sneaks over to sleep near his gang anyway â he feels safest that way. They can't truly trust anyone yet.
The first person they meet is Logan (son of Belle and Beast) and brother to the king. He's a year younger and he doesn't mind much, advising people how he can and how he's told. He isn't intimidated by Remus' threats of violence and he sees through Janus' lies and manipulation so he befriends Virgil first. They're cool, Virgil likes space (it would peek through the clouds on the Isle sometimes) and Logan taught astronomy to him properly.
Roman (son of Cinderella and Prince Charming) comes along next, the less dickish brother of Chad (sorry chad grinds my gears) and the more honorable one. He's a bit.. unenthusiastic about the new VKs but he promised his mother he'd help them get settled in so he does try. He and Remus click and are immediately besties. They duel and fight and have a lot of fun doing it.
Patton (son of Alice from Alice in Wonderland) isn't actually the one who comes along last, as he's popped up now and then, but he does show up properly with the others later. Janus finds him funny to mess around with, but Patton makes it a game to find out his tricks. Turns out, Janus actually enjoys baking. You know who else does? Patton :D
The VKs have a hard time adjusting to the new school but they now have, ugh, friends to help them. Eventually they get used to it. Virgil starts returning things he instinctively steals, Janus gets a hold of his lying, Remus stops threatening everything that threatens his gang. They're all seriously still gang and they still make sure they can take care of themselves but otherwise :3 they can enjoy some Auradon stuff too (ignore Auradon lore though)
Anyway here's some "cringe" (no such thing) indulgence from my childhood :D

Hey, have you seen the new updates for Descendants 5? If no well theyâre having a kingdom cup game held in Wonderland and all of the kingdoms in Auradon attended when a powerful villain from wonderland emerges and Chloe and Red will save the dayâŚsigh.
...Well then....that um....doesn't seem to connect well to uh, the last film in any way, especially its ending...unless time travel will somehow be thrown in but like....I fail to see how so far based on that premise. I will admit though, that premise does do well for a short run time since Rise of Red had a pretty short run time, which did not help its issues, but a sports cup themed movie can easily be put into a short run time movie....unless Descendants writers over-complicates it which wouldn't be surprised if they do, but.... The premise isn't that interesting though cause....not only do I not care for sports plots unless its Pixie Hollow Games or Dragon Games or even High School Musical, but its also just....really a kingdom cup game??? Auradon has this now???? Is this a new addition to the lore of Descendants, they have an annual sports cup thing???? Granted there was nothing to debunk this in prior lore so finally, something that may not break lore in Descendants....may is the word, its Descendants, they break lore for fun.
All the kingdoms....I wanna see Ben's and Mal's excuse for not attending, they are not gonna get Mitchell Hope and Dove Cameron back for this, are they still exploring or some shit during this film??? Kinda curious now. Also held in Wonderland??? Oh boy....I mean, the Wonderland set did look good but um, a whole movie in it??? Way Too Wonderland in Ever After High has taught me dread with movies set fully in Wonderland, and Descendants already is weird with Wonderland- but also didn't the kingdom just rejoin Auradon??? Or in new timeline have they always been apart of it and its just their turn this year??? Like, if they still just rejoined, bit weird to give it to the new kingdom and not the one that was likely set to host it, but the timeline is confusing now. Powerful new villain....Uliana was basically a bad villain, so forgive me for not thinking these writers can't write a good villain. Also my thoughts on sports here is that it should be Chloe focus, she is a sporty person...but Descendants defintiely will focus on Red again and just sideline Chloe for the 100th time unless they can shit on her in favor of Red.
#disney descendants#descendants#descendants 5#have not been in the loop with descendants beyond fanfiction#so this was a surprise#a bad one too#i will say be interesting to see auradon sports we only have tourney and roar right now#but like its descendants its gonna be a mess#rise of red was a major one

Okay, so since weâre talking about Descendants, I really need to get this off my chest, itâs gonna be a bit long đ
First of all, I have to say that I LOVE how creative you are with your stories, characters and designs!! Like, you pour so much soul into them and itâs unfortunately something thatâs been very lacking lately at Disney! You did the Descendants thing so much better than they could!
There was so much that Disney could have done with the idea of a Fairytale Crossover to make this franchise stand apart from previous works that also went with it! Like, instead of having ALL the Disney characters exist at the exact same time and place, they could have existed on the same fictional continent or in the same fictional world but at different places and times so that all of their stories would have happened as they do in the animated movies. And instead of being their children, the protagonists could have been the grandchildren, great-grandchildren or distant relatives of SOME of them, because I truly donât think that Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella or Ursula would ever want to have children, but Disney went with that because they needed to sell fashion dolls with as many aesthetics as possible (which is ironic because their outfits are soulless, atrocious and pretty much all look the same compared to the ones in Ever After High)!
Had it been only some of the Disney characters having distant relatives, it would have made more sense and they could have come up with an interesting story to explain why the descendants of specific Disney characters have been brought together at this magical school (which should have been much more grand and Hogwarts-like if you ask me)! Could have been a prophecy? A spell? A curse cast by Yen-Sid? The Evil Queen? Maleficent? Or maybe something that was caused a long time ago by multiple Disney Villains? Have these characters been brought here to undo something? Unleash something?
It reminds me of the Grimrose Girls book series by Laura Pohl, which gets often compared to Descendants but is actually more comparable to Ever After High because of this idea of a fate that the characters canât escape. Itâs set in a boarding school, where the protagonists find out that they, as well as the rest of the students, are doomed to repeat the gruesome endings of various fairytales, like the ones who came before them and have to find a way to break the curse before it reaches them too. Disney could have done something similar (not with the gruesome-endings stuff but rather with the setting and idea of a curse)!
Or they could have done something similar to Kingdom Hearts and have all these Disney characters exist in different universes and time periods but have some of their descendants be brought together to the dimension of Auradon for a specific reason! Doing all of this would have allowed for the Descendants franchise to stand apart from Ever After High, but instead they decided to be lazy and rip it off! They really needed to be more creative! Imagine the interesting world-building, the lore and the unique, whimsical designs and outfits that we could have had instead of⌠Leather and headphones. Disney fumbled really hard!
Right??? Yeah allll of this âď¸ You came up with like three different cool ideas right off the bat, and yet the giant corporation with swimming pools of money--nothing :p
What a waste
