Tiger Woods wins Augusta Masters, his 15th major title Golf legend, Tiger Woods on Sunday ended his 11-year major title drought by winning Augusta Masters, his fifth green jacket and 15th major title. Woods fired a final-round two-under par 70 to finish on 13-under 275 for a one-shot victory to capture a $2.07 million (1.82 million euros) top prize and the green jacket symbolizing Masters supremacy. The 43 year-old American is now three titles away from Jack Nicklaus, who holds a record 18 major titles. To win with one stroke, Woods seized the top of the leaderboard at Augusta National Golf Club from Italy’s Francesco Molinari, who was overnight leader on Saturday. Molinari, the reigning British Open champion had seized the 54-hole lead on 13-under par 203 with Woods and Finau two strokes behind. Brooks Koepka, last year’s US Open and PGA Championship winner, began three adrift with fellow American Webb Simpson, the 2012 US Open, and England’s Ian Poulter four off the pace. But as he did in the past, Woods held his nerve as the blustery field blew the other players away. Despite making a bogey in the last hole, Woods ended up with 2 under. Molinari, along with Finau, Webb Simpson and Jason Day ended up with 11 under and tied for the fifth position. Xander Schauffele, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka tied for second, all with 12 under. Woods victory, his fifth masters and the first since 2005, marked an epic return from injuries that once threatened his career. He underwent spinal fusion in 2017 fearing chronic back pain would deny him life’s simple joys much less golf wins. “I don’t know if there are words — I’m sure he’s ecstatic about it,” Koepka said. “To have the injuries and come back and do what he has done, it has been tremendous to watch.” “A big well done from me to Tiger,” Nicklaus told telecaster CBS. “I’m so happy for him and for the game of golf this is so fantastic.” Woods served notice he had returned to form by contending last year at the British Open and PGA before snapping a five-year title drought by capturing the Tour Championship. Racing to finish before an oncoming thunderstorm, players created their own electric atmosphere, spectators roaring repeatedly for sensational shotmaking on one of golf’s iconic stages at Augusta National, where Woods won his first major title in 1997. Woods then drove the green in two at the par-5 15th and tapped in for birdie to seize the lead alone at 13-under par then sank a four-foot birdie putt at the par-3 16th to stretch his advantage to two shots with two holes remaining. Woods parred 17 and walked up to the 18th green to crowds 20-people deep applauding with delight, but he kept a stoic visage until the job was complete, a tap-in for bogey followed by a fist pump and a scream of joy in celebration of a fairytale fightback like few others in sporting history. Just off the 18th green, Woods hugged his mother as he had his late father Earl in 1997 and held his children, his back more than up to the task as the crowd chanted his name, a rare tribute, and rivals congratulated him as he entered the clubhouse. Woods, one shy of matching Nicklaus for the most career Masters wins, won his 81st career US PGA victory, one shy of the all-time record held by Sam Snead. He also set a record for the longest gap between Masters triumphs, the 14-year spread one year longer than the old mark set by South African Gary Player from 1961 to 1974. It completes a fairytale comeback to the pinnacle of golf for Woods, whose career imploded after a 2009 sex scandal before unraveling amid injuries and personal problems. After battling to overhaul 54-hole leader Francesco Molinari of Italy, Woods birdied the par-5 13th to join a lead pack of five at 12-under. Woods, Molinari, Xander Schauffele, Brooks Kopeka and Dustin Johnson — with Australian Jason Day in the clubhouse on 11-under and Patrick Cantlay, who also hit 12-under, foiled by bogeys at 16 and 17. Woods and Molinari, in the last trio, each birdied the par-5 13th to reach 12-under while Johnson reeled off three consecutive birdies, the last on an 11-foot putt at 17, to make 12-under. Schauffele got there on birdies at 14 and 15 and Koepka by answering a double bogey at the par-3 12th with an eagle at 13 and birdie at 15. None could go lower except Woods, with Molinari undone at the par-5 15th when his approach struck a tree limb and his chip barely clung to the side of a damp slope on the way to a double-bogey disaster. Augusta National moved the final round to Sunday morning due to storms expected to arrive in the afternoon, when leaders would typically be battling for the title. FAF was the only player who was out of form in Australia series. Even he scored a century in final innings of the series to set Australia a massive score of 612. Australia had to play out of their skin to save the match. But Philander had other ideas. He swung SA to a famous series win, their first at home vs Australia. Australia lost by 492 runs. Only Burns and Handscomb reached double figures. It goes to show how much ball tampering incident has rattled Australia. It will take them some time to find their mojo back.

NZ were set a target of 382 by England. Root scored another fifty. His century conversion ratio is getting some serious beating in last 4 months. NZ did well not to lose any wicket on final session. They were 42-0 in 23 overs. On final day though, Broad dismissed Raval of first delivery.They lost Williamson, Taylor and Nicholls before lunch. NZ had to bat out 2 sessions. Latham was holding one end. Watling and rest had to fight it out. NZ did fight back. They just lost 2 wickets before tea. They were 191-6. Latham scored gritty 83 runs. Grandhomme and Sodhi were fighting hard. They had 57 run stand and batted for 26 overs. Wagner and Sodhi for 31 overs to save the match for NZ. SOdhi was the star with unbeaten 58 of 168 balls. 58 overs were played between Grandhomme , Sodhi and Wagner. That’s brilliant stuff. NZ won test series against England for the first time since 1999. England have not won test outside home for 13 matches now. They need to rethink their bowling and batting lineup. Cook looks jaded. There is too much load on Anderson and Broad outside home and they don’t have pace with them to trouble outside home in all conditions. They need a fast bowler(not swing) and a good spinner(not Ali) to win matches outside home.

Ronaldo has lit football stadium many a times. This season though has been poor for his team. They almost look out of contention in La LIga. Their only hope is Champions league. They faced Juventus in Champions league QF. Ronaldo had to shine and he did. He scored a goal via bicycle kick. It is easily one of the best goals this season  He is a REAL Genius in football ground. Real Madrid won first leg 2-0.  Bayern Munich came back to beat Sevilla 2-1.

Augusta Masters kick starts this week. It first began in 1934. This 72 hole golf course is a dream which every golfer wants to win. Sergio Garcia won it last year. He had won a major after 76 attempts. 2 years back, Spieth choked to hand green jacket to Danny Willet. Jack Nicklaus has won it most times (6). Tiger has won it 4 times. Tiger Woods is making a comeback this year. He has been in decent form but would be a miracle if he wins green jacket this year. Dustin Johnson and Mcolroy are favorites this year. India’s Shubhankar Sharma got special invite from Masters which is such a privilege. Can’t wait for the biggest Golfing extravaganza to kick start !!
