This is a colourization I did of the late Indian cinema actress Sridevi Kapoor. Today (August 13 2023) would have been her 60th birthday. Sridevi was born in Meenampatti, Madras State (present day Tamil Nadu) on August 13 1963. She became a child actress at 4 years old starring in Tamil films. As she grew up she began a long career in Indian cinema including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films. She was considered a Bollywood Superstar. In 1996 she married Boney Kapoor and they had 2 daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor. Both of her daughters are now Bollywood actresses. On February 24 2018 while attending a wedding in Dubai Sridevi fell and drowned in her hotel bathroom. Her funeral was one of the largest funerals with up to 7000 fans showing up to pay respects.

Sridevi was one of my favourite Bollywood actresses. Google made a "doodle" for her today on their front page.

He has also starred in the films Smoke (1995), The Edge (1997), The Best Man (1999), 28 Weeks Later (2007), and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). His other television credits include Oz (1997–2003), Sons of Anarchy (2012), Constantine (2014–2015), Claws (2017–present), and The Rookie (2019–2021).

Robert "Bob" Emory Osgood

Robert “Bob” Emory Osgood was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and friend. His battle with cancer and congestive heart failure in recent months was met with faith and determination. Bob passed quickly on August 22, 2023, only two weeks after his 83rd birthday and just 9 days before his 60th wedding anniversary to the love of his life, Nancy.

Bob was born on August 7, 1940, to Lucy Rogers Osgood and Arthur Baxter Osgood of Plainville, Connecticut. He developed a long friendship with Nancy Sweeton Osgood which began at church-related functions at the district level; they married on August 31, 1963. Bob was predeceased by his brother Arthur Osgood and is survived by his older brother Doug Osgood, all three ordained ministers in the United Methodist Church. Bob is also survived by his three children and their spouses: Steve Osgood and Peggy Monastra, Greg Osgood and Erin Rada, and Kim and Chris Markworth. Bob was especially grateful for and proud of his three children as well as his seven grandchildren: Steve’s children Orlando and Ronan; Greg’s children Zoe, Simon, John, and Andrew; and Kim’s child Pax. They all miss him dearly.

Bob devoted his life and career to the United Methodist Church, serving throughout the New York Conference and beyond. He led the ministries at several United Methodist churches in New York and Connecticut and directed the Methodist Church’s camping program throughout New York for three years. From 1991 to 1994, he and Nancy served as missionaries in Haiti under the United Methodist Church General Board of Global Ministries. He also served as the first coordinator of the disaster relief center at UMCOR Sager-Brown in Louisiana and worked at the UMCOR headquarters in Washington, DC. After retiring in 2007 to North Hoosick, NY, Bob served as interim pastor at the Emmaus United Methodist Church in Albany, NY. 

Throughout his life, Bob found great joy in gardening, running an antique nook, renovating the family home, traveling the National Park system with Nancy, being with family and friends, and telling stories. Nancy and Bob relocated to Wesley Village in Pittston, Pennsylvania, in 2020, where they continued to make great friends. 

Bob’s faith and good works touched the lives of so many, as so many others touched his life. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, September 2, at 10:30 AM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 17 Old Post Road, Croton-on-Hudson, New York.

She was an American singer and actress. Nicknamed "the Voice", she is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 220 million records sold worldwide. In 2023, Rolling Stone named her the second-greatest singer of all time. Houston influenced many singers in popular music, and was known for her powerful, soulful vocals, vocal improvisation skills, and use of gospel singing techniques in pop music. She had 11 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and is the only artist to have seven consecutive number-one singles on the chart. Her accolades include eight Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, two Emmy Awards, and 28 Guinness World Records. Her life and career were dramatized in the 2022 biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody.

Celebrating 60 years this year! 1963 was a huge year for The Beatles, recording their first album “Please Please Me” in ONE DAY on the 11th February, as well as their second album “With The Beatles” during August and September of ‘63.

When recording their debut album, George Martin famously said “I don’t know how they do it. The longer we go on, the better they get.”

“With The Beatles” has a place in the hearts of many Beatles fans. With songs like “Hold Me Tight”, “All My Loving” and “I Wanna Be Your Man”, how can this not be a favourite?

60 years on, I think both of these albums hold up extremely well. They’re both classic albums of their time, and some of the deeper cuts are timeless, as well as the most well-known hits like “Love Me Do” and “I Saw Her Standing There”. Wishing “Please Please Me” a late 60th birthday and “With The Beatles” an early 60th!

11:45 a.m.  cold day - Molly, my miracle helper did email me yesterday that she had set up a blog, and then I got an email from tumbler to confirm that I was I and that resulted in an email: you deserve an app - and that was too complicated for me - so I am not sure, will she be able to post today or not - I have not heard from her, she is 23, a recent Bennington grad, a much published poet - and wise far beyond her years - we have had two wonderful long sessions - 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. - we repaired for lunch to the Ukrainian home and stayed there until  a friend of her's was about to join here - a young sociologist - whom I was eager to meet too, since I did two years of grad sociology at Hunter 1963-65 - lived it, but my former husband said we urgently needed a little more money - I switched to Columbia, teaching assistantship in German - bored me to tears - seemed practical - until after 1968 the bottom fell out of it - I did a lot better painting walls. I thought I'll know for sure she is posting, I would write a short into - or actually somewhere in the computer must be the mini version of my 1000 page unedited version of "Janik Remembers" - Janik is what my mother called me and friends in Europe - wish I had stayed with Janik Landsre, wish I had stayed with sociology - might also have been able to get an assistantship - I loved it, Consciousness - as in Class Consciousness was one of my topics - the other: Class origins of women writers - assumption (correct word escapes me): vast majority from upper classes. The memoir mini version is all of 12 topics written in twelve days - formatted by my dear fried Damian - and I'm sure between Damian and Molly they will be able to find it - could also be posted on Facebook - my general frustration at 84 is that I'm aware of all these possibilities - but as I put it, permanently in computer nursery school. I was an only child, we lived in Prague as refuges our family as nuclear as it can get: father, mother one child - in my mini memoir you can read about the dire circumstances - early I had to reach out to people for help - and I have had a guardian angel and also Lady Luck on my side. My mother loved planning - in 1933 a year after I was born she had lined up a wonderful job in Koeln - Cologne - where I was born in 1932 - politics intervened. She had planned on her next four children, picked a villa on the outskirts of town - she was an avid gardener among many other things - Hitler came to power and - fate? - had very different plans for her in mind. We were lucky to survive. In 1945, we were still in Prague, I wrote in a diary in August - the atom bomb has just been dropped, I doubt this world is for long and was often blamed: you have only fun in life (fun can be hard work to achieve.) In any event, luck, fate, intelligence, good looks - call it what you will took me to America in 1951 - very different from the America of today. I've come to love the people - they are wonderful, I've come to love the beauty of the land - the vast open spaces and the freedom this country has allowed me. Leaving Europe on a troup transport I stood at the aft of the 10.000 ton ship (cruise ships are 100.000 and more) - waved Europe goodbye and said out loud: I never want to see the horrible continent again. It had been a horrible place the first 13 years of my life. To this day I am happy I left. My children, grand children and a great grand child have made me happy. I have had my share of fun and as my younger son put it the other day: Mother, you had a good run. I have inded. There is more I could say about my day yesterday, my older son"s 60th birthday - celebrated in Western Massachusetts where both my sons live - I was in New York my adopted city - lady luck in the disguise of a fire (my second since I moved in 1973 to what is now the East Village, invaded by fun loving rich kids) - lady luck has provided me with subsidized housing corner 5th street and Bowery - and the here computer room - 13 computers and I - where I am writing this. My beloved Dell is on the blink, also the wonderful lazer printer - I've acquired an ipad, a few models back, and also an iPhone, cheaply - only wish to learn how to use them The printer here worker briefly - questionable if and when it will work again. You could say I drifted on a lucky cloud through life - my mother's fate made me leary - if there is such a word - of planning - Sartre in Paris when all the planning was done for him by the German occupants - gave it the name: Existentialism. Simone de Beauvoir - my role model of sorts, from the very upper classes - one of many books: L'Amerique de jour au jour - America from Day to day - you could call that my life too. Yesterday in brief - an auspicious meeting with a woman playing an important role in my present life, some writing, fleeing an intrusive inspection in this here house (apartments picked at random) - meeting a fellow tenant, taking a bus with her - she to 32nd and a docror visit, I to 79th and the New York Society Library where I am a member, trying to use their computer - librarian to the rescue, calling for a young I.T., South Korean, undergrad at N.Y.U. - no go, she brought a note book, the bulb in the lamp was also out, he wrote to me for to a woman whose number I did not have on me - a flamboyant type who can be nasty, lower classes - she only called this morning and was nasty - walked to Madison Ave spent $15 on luke warm potatoe and leak soup at EAT - lots of rich people - took bus down 5th Avenue - he stopped for ten minutes to adjust to schedule - and met - J.G. - there are all these people touche be named and somebody suggested to use initials, easier than remembering made up names - a character whom I now from the park, we had an interesting session, lots of good advise. Before I sign out - my style - loved by some, abhorred by others - I only write when my mood is up - and write about that a lot - then my writing flows, usually for two hours - and I'm hungry now and tired and will send this without reading or correcting it - and especially once it is a blog it will no longer have to clutter in boxes - I will ask if any want to stay on the email list I've been using, calling it a quasi blog - or have the option to open it whenever they feel like it.
