BREAKING; NJC receives 22 nominees for screening into Supreme Court Bench [see full list]
The Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) has compiled a list of 22 justices of the court of appeal for elevation to the supreme court.
According to Channels TV, the list was forwarded to the National Judicial Council (NJC) on Thursday.
In the list, the north-central region has six nominees, while the south-west and south-south regions have two nominees each.
The south-east region also has six nominees, and the north-east has two nominees.
The NJC is expected to pick 11 deserving candidates from the list and forward same to President Bola Tinubu, who should appoint them to the apex court bench following confirmation by the senate.
Olukayode Ariwoola, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), declared openings at the supreme court in June.
The court is currently left with 10 justices after the death of Centus Nweze, and the retirements of Amina Augie and Dattijo Muhammad.
Currently, only four of the six geo-political zones are represented on the supreme court bench. The south-west and north-east have three each, while the south-south and north-west have two each.
The constitution allows the supreme court to have a maximum of 21 justices.

( Hey sorry for all of these updates and the silence around here, other than the usual daily comic. I have tons of memes and fanart to reblog/upload, so please stay tuned! I thought I was getting better, but my health took a hard hit and I ended up getting real bad bronchitis, so I’ve been mostly sleeping. Thank you so much for your patience. I’m trying to queue up fanarts for today and tomorrow, and I’ll post the ask compilation some time soon.
Thanks again for your patience! Much appreciated, much appreciated! )

Supreme Court Upholds Election Of Yahaya Bello As Kogi Governor The election that brought in Yahaya Bello as the Governor of Kogi State has been upheld by the Supreme Court. Delivering its judgement on Monday, the justices at the apex court disagreed with the appeal filed on five grounds by Musa Wada, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi Governorship Election. The main opposition party candidate, Wada argued that the election held on November 16, 2019, was riddled with serious electoral infractions; rigging and over-voting, and that Governor Bello didn’t secure the highest vote. Alongside the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammed, other members of the panel who sat on the matter include Justices Olabode Rhodes-Vivour, Sylvester Ngwuta, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Inyang Okoro, Amina Augie, Uwani Abba-Aji https://www.instagram.com/p/CEjVsmUFGm2/?igshid=18jdof5qw4mkz
