I hate collars.

I though this one would be ok, but no. Even a straight strip of cloth was an absolute pain. Took three tries and two unpickings to get it to lay reasonably flat.

This process took three whole evenings.

First attempt.. I even tacked it down carefully, not relying on just pins.

(Yes, I used my ironing ham to help hold the shape I wanted around the neckline. Didn’t help.)

So bumpy….

I found the easiest way was to iron the collar strip first. Put in the two folds to hide the raw edges, and measure out the middle fold so the right side was the same width all along. This also helped stiffen the fabric and hold it straight and prevent weird wrinkles when I machined it into place.

The entire length of collar fabric was already stiffened with iron-on interfacing. But ironing in the folds really helped with stabalising the entire thing.

Finally!

Yes there were two ‘weird’ spots. I unpicked the seam and re-did it on the machine. Problem solved!

Next time this whole process should be much easier.

This was also the point I decided to turn this project into the jacket, and intend to re-make this whole garment as a top in a different fabric to match the skirt I’m planning. I must be either mad, or a masochist.

How does Tifa feel about Cloud's changes? (Zack's too I guess but she only met Zack on the worst day of her life so...) Her and Cloud weren't exactly close before things went tits up but she did know him a bit better than most of Nebelheim barring his mom. I think it would be way more complicated than canon. He went from an almost pitiful antisocial to a scary one. Canon Cloud became a little intimidating, more just awkward and a bit cold, but not scary like this one. And yet, he seems to have found someone he cares more about than she's EVER seen before. (Again, barring mama Strife.)

His quiet awkwardness was kind of charming back when they were kids, but that's the innocence of childhood for ya... Nowadays his silence is disturbing. She still nurses an old crush on Cloud, still sees him as the boy next door, still wants him to be okay. She's less scared of Cloud himself, and more afraid of Zack's influence on Cloud.

Tifa's only memories of Zack are some of the worst memories of her life, and Cloud's scary behavior and poor health only serve to strengthen that association. Without the badly needed context of the hell they've endured, to her, it just looks like Zack took him under the wing when he "joined SOLDIER"... and that Cloud's condition is a direct result of Zack's "relationship" with him.

But Tifa keeps that all to herself of course. She'll get Cloud out of this somehow. She can protect him, she just needs a little more time to think, she tells herself...

Thinking about Reaver, her, and how she effects his relationships.

Like Reaver can and does bed anyone willing, he barely remembers them, he has no qualms about hurting people and fidelity isn't part of his skill set.

But I feel like he would likely have some sort of faithfulness to her. She clearly haunts him, he hasn't forgiven himself for what her death, he misses her but refuses to admit it because that part of him is meant to be dead.

Which leads me too my point, I think very rarely, he finds partners that remind him of her. Be it in looks or mannerisms, he finds them and he clings. He'll never be as loyal to them as with her because for as much as they're like her they're so different. Too different for him to be entirely loyal too, too alike for him to discard as easily as he'd like.

He may not even realize it, a subconscious part of him that looks for her, is desperate to find her desite her being long dead and grabs onto it as firecly as it can. He can never actually have her again but he'll take the scraps, he'll pretend shes who he's laying with, who he holds. But its not, it won't be and its his own fault.
