Hi there again! You’re honestly becoming one of my favorite writers for Bungou Stray Dogs requests! Can I request Atsushi with an empath S/O? Like they can feel invisible vibrations and frequencies from nature and living beings (people, plants and animals). They’re very connected to animals and animals love them too! They can soothe others just by emitting a calm aura and being in the room. Then also have extremely strong intuition and can read people’s emotions. However, the down side is that they can absorb others emotions to the point where they literally feel strong emotional or physical pain. It would be cool to find out how he would do with someone like that. Feel free to do this if you want to, thank you! 🙏💞

Atsushi x reader | Empath ability S/O

You usually didn't suddenly wake up at night, but when you did it was usually paired with a slight headache and worry, since you already knew that the bad emotions you felt were coming from the person close to you.

Everyone in his friend group had stood out to you, but Nakajima Atsushi in particular had caught your attention right away. Not only from his weirdly chopped hair, dual coloured eyes and friendly looks, but also from the whirlwind of emotions you could feel beneath the surface of a boy who still seemed to need to learn so much about the world.

You almost had been scared by this, but he had been nice to you, and your interest eventually ended up in romantic interest- And now you were here, together, and regularly sleeping at eachother's apartments.

"Are you okay..?" You softly whispered, moving the blankets so you could move closer to your boyfriend, currently whimpering softly, his own blanket already having been kicked to the side. Still asleep. Still having a nightmare about events in the past.

Struggling to wake him up, you instead focused to let out a calming aura instead, the presence of it quickly making Atsushi still again. He woke up a minute or two after, still visibly shaken, but able to breathe.

Atsushi, eyes focused downwards, trailed the edges of his cup of tea with his fingers, searching for words as he waited for the drink to cool down.

"I.. I didn't mean to wake you, sorry." He tried a sheepish smile, though it didn't quite erase the frown he had been carrying on his features since he woke up. He felt bad. And he felt bad that he was feeling bad.

"I'd wake up ten times a night if it'd mean I could help you." you whispered, and Atsushi looked up, seeming like he just got tugged a bit more out of his current troubles. Right- He had more right now than then. More that he didn't want to lose.

Atsushi leaned in, lips lightly brushing against yours in a quick peck.

"Thank you."

But you didn't even need your abilities to feel, that what he really meant to say was 'I love you.'

Who initiates cuddle sessions?

Always. Without a single doubt in my mind...it’s Atsushi. He’s always the very first to wrap his arms around me and nuzzle his face in between my shoulder and the crook of my neck. He loves my scent and how calming it is, and how he’ll always know it’s me through it.

Even when we’re sleeping, I can’t get away from his grasp unless if I wake him up! Lol. Since he had lots of traumatic memories at the orphanage, my hubby has a habit of unconsciously holding me in his arms whether he’s awake or not. Sometimes he kisses my shoulder to let me know he still thinks I’m beautiful. In a way it’s for me to really feel his love because he doesn’t really show his feelings through words much . It’s a calming mechanism for him, and I don’t mind it at all. I’m a very cuddly and kinda clingy person, so it helps to soothe me too!

His arms are so large yet so warm and comforting. The moment I feel that familiar touch I melt straight away. He’s a cuddle monster, and I adore every second my tiger hubby shows me how tender and gentle he really is through that. I couldn’t be any more grateful than having him in my life, and realizing how wonderful he truly is. 😊💕💝💘💗💖💓

Who is more affectionate in public/private?

In regards of public affection, I would definitely say I’m the more affectionate one in public. I’m not ashamed of my relationship with my tiger hubby at all, and I honestly don’t care much of what public opinion thinks of me. However, I do acknowledge that being reserved about excessive affection (kissing, cuddling etc) is the cultural norm in Japan, especially in Yokohama. Atsushi does let me know about that and I respect that.

I do my best to at least keep it to the respectable minimum such as holding hands or linking arms with him in public. Here and there I’m a rebel, and I give a peck on his cheek to freak out some old ladies or make an old man scoff on the sidewalk. It’s hilarious! Plus I get to see my sushi’s face get all red and flustered at me because he’s so cute that way tbh! 🥰🥰😍😍🥰🥰💗💕💓✨💝💖💘✨

Atsushi, however, is the complete opposite of me in that regard. He’s much more shy about initiating any public affection most of the time. Usually I’m the one to take his hand while we walk. But he does surprise me on occasion whenever he’s feeling confident by reaching out to hold my hand if we get to super crowded areas in the city. If he’s feeling particularly protective of me that day too, he’ll pull me close to him and link our arms so I don’t get separated from him. Plus it makes me feel safer since I easily get anxiety attacks if I’m lost in a crowd.

In private, he’s a completely different man in the best way possible. Once we’re home, he lets out all the affection he wanted to give me throughout the entire day after many long and hard cases we finished at the ADA. After we shower together and dress down, he’s the very first to carry me to the couch and just wrap me entirely in his cuddly embrace. Sometimes he’ll play with my hair, or rub my back and give me small kisses on the top of my head. I usually return his affection by giving him a scalp massage or by kissing him back.

Around this time of day we usually talk about our frustrations, crazy things, or how annoying certain people are at work. We will always have stuff to talk about for hours, and we usually laugh at the dumbest of jokes we come up with while watching our shows. Depending on how tired we are, we also fall asleep on the couch haha! Overall, our affection styles may be a little different, but we still try to make it work. We always try to make time for each other because we love quality time the most. Being here with my hubby and just feeling how loved I am through him is more than I could ever ask for! 😍🥰💕💗💓💘💖💝🐯🌹🍷✨

Aw, thank you!! I really appreciate you sending this ask in for me love! 

Spinel: Who is the more organised one out of you and your F/O? Are either of you particularly messy?

Out of the both of us, neither one of us is super clean or organized about our rooms! 😂😂😂 

However in terms of organization, Atsushi is surprisingly the one who knows how to clean and categorize certain items so our place doesn’t look too messy. I’m usually the one that’s more messy, but, y’know I’m like that cuz I got ADHD and Autism and all that jazz. Atsushi is gentle but firm with reminding me to clean up though, compared to someone like Kunikida. Which I really do appreciate, because I sometimes get triggered if I’m aggressively pressured into cleaning because of certain childhood traumas. And my husband knows if he pushes me too hard I can easily have an anxiety attack because of it.

He’ll do his very best to encourage me to clean by using small rewards or favors he would do for me so I won’t get overwhelmed by it. For example, if Atsushi reminds me about cleaning all of the dishes, he’ll promise to get me a pink strawberry Sailor Moon themed crepe we can share on his way back home from work. He’s so good to me that way. 💕 💞 💗 💖 💞 💓 

Agate: What is your favourite way to relax with your F/O? Conversely, how do you and your F/O like to have fun?

Hmm... 🤔 

That’s a hard one. We both have a lot of activities we love to do with each other. But if I had to narrow it down, there are two very specific activities we love doing together the most (besides the usual “dance beneath the moonlight”😉). Which is cooking together and spending time together in my crystal garden. 

We usually take turns cooking each other our favorite dishes from each of our cultures. He loves memorizing and making any complex American and Mexican dishes, such as the traditional Mexican enchiladas or baked macaroni and cheese. While I do my very best to fix his favorite forms of Ochazuke in all forms, including his favorite street foods like Takoyaki and sweet Japanese crepes. We may mess up a little along the way, but we still have fun laughing off the mistakes and learning about each others cultures through our food dishes. 

Spending time in my crystal garden is another favorite pastime of ours. Long before I met Atsushi, I created a garden of various metals and crystals surrounding my apartment backyard since barely anything grew there. Whenever I felt super anxious or sad, I’d create a zen garden of various sparkling crystals and metals based on the Japanese patterns I saw in books because of my super ability, “Corazon de Oro”. Each of them grew from the ground or sometimes on the trees and had a beautiful glimmering glow to it. One crystal I made would be an electric blue, while another would be sharp red or luminescent orange. It’s almost like seeing acres of gems through a rainbow prism-like refraction from your eyes.

The first time Atsushi saw it, he was in awe at what I created. Especially since it sparkled and shimmered so beautifully under the moons luminescent glow. Since then, Atsushi was so honored to have seen my rainbow crystal zen garden that he promised to keep coming back here if he ever felt down or upset about something. We’d just sit and talk under the amethyst tear-drop tree for hours while he would stare at and silently admire the natural beauty of all the crystals shapes I created with my ability.

 Sometimes he’d walk around the garden and ask if he could keep a few small crystals with my permission. Which I would let him, and he’d always keep them in his pocket because they remind him of me and its calming properties. Being around my crystal garden gives him a sense of peace and relaxation he never thought he’d find until it was with me. And I don’t think he could be any more grateful for that. 💕💞💝💕💞

Opal: In your selfship, which one of you is more of the leader? How good are you and your F/O at taking charge?

When it comes to me and Atsushi, I would definitely say that I’m the leader in our relationship, or at least “leader-like” in many aspects. I’m usually a lot more outspoken, goal-oriented, and I like getting stuff done. Atsushi doesn’t mind this part of my personality much since he’s more laid back and doesn’t want too much responsibility. But here and there, he does surprise me with an unexpected kiss or sweeps me off my feet in his tiger arms. In those moments, I really let him take the initiative and...let’s just say we go places. *wink wink*

Onyx: What are you and your F/O’s reputations like, in-universe? Do many people know about your relationship?

He’s supposedly the “vicious” man tiger who’s infamous all over Yokohama. As for me, I was the foreign Chicana “beauty queen” from America. He was known internationally for his ability and had a bounty on his head for over 7 billion yen. I was the exotic yet lovely lady that everyone in Yokohama turned their heads at and fawned over because I looked so petite, harmless, and pretty. Both of our rumors about our personality were barely even true.

The truth is, my supposedly scary man tiger is actually a gentle and kind young man. While I am actually the more fiery and spunky femme fatale if you crossed me. 

It almost seemed impossible for us to get together because we both had reputations that were so different from each other. Atsushi was definitely shy and reluctant to pursue me at first, but I gave him the patience and time to know me. Then Atsushi realized he didn’t have to be so afraid to take a chance with me after all. We both came from very similar childhood backgrounds and had similar trauma, and not to mention we both treasure love and acceptance from the people we love. It was easy for our feelings to blossom naturally from there, and it slowly turned from infatuation, to respect, and eventually true reciprocal love.

In universe, not too many people know about our relationship. If you were a non-ability person on the streets of Yokohama, you would barely even know we are a couple. Only those who are in the ADA (and some in the Port Mafia) actually know about our relationship. Usually Dazai, Kyouka, Akiko, and Ranpo  are the ones who know the most about us. 

Coral: Have you and your F/O changed much since meeting each other? If so, how would you say you have each changed?

I would definitely say we both changed a whole lot since we met each other. I grew more accepting and gentle with myself, and my Atsushi became more confident with his strengths and decision making. There are many more things we have accepted about each other but it’d be too long of a list lol. 

One thing I can say for sure is that he’s definitely more open with affection from me and giving back in return. At first, it was really difficult for him to receive affection of any kind given what happened to him at the orphanage. He always flinched whenever I rubbed his head, held his hand, or even kissed him. It broke my heart so bad to see that for a while, but I was persistent in wanting to give him all the love he desperately needed.

The more affection I gave, the more I reminded him that it was ok if he didn’t return it until he was ready to. Then one day after I came home while I was having a really bad day at work, he unexpectedly held me close, stroked my cheek, and gave me kisses all over my face. Needless to say, I openly cried because the gesture was so tender and loving. He was taken aback at first because he didn’t expect me to be so emotional, but I reassured him it was because I was so happy he opened himself up to me. We were both sappy and sentimental messes after that. 🌹🍷✨
