Just watched the new Spiderverse and I have THOUGHTS about the art of Gwen’s world.

Obviously, there are the colors: she’s so often in shades of blue, contrasted against the redder world around her, which she begins regaining herself and her resolve, she shows up in warmer colors and the world around her cools.

But ALSO! The way they do the backgrounds! I think we see two? clearly drawn locations in Gwen’s universe? Maybe? Other than that, it’s a bunch of abstract colors and shapes.

Literally the only two fully drawn locations are her room (which she knows basically by heart) and the museum during the Vulture fight (she literally has to pay attention to her surroundings, if she doesn’t someone dies). Other than that? Colors and shapes.

It’s SO clear that Gwen is not doing well, even just by seeing her world. She doesn’t pay attention to her world, doesn’t see the beauty in it, so we don’t get to see the beauty in her world, either.

Anyway Spiderverse was great go see it

the queer coding of across the spiderverse. the way the main theme was defying what the world expects you to be. just. everything about the conflict miles and gwen have about revealing their identities have double meanings. the bisexual lighting when gwen first 'comes out' to her dad and the trans colours filling the screen when he accepts her. not even mentioning the literal trans flag in her room.

edit: as many other people mentioned, gwen's dad also has a trans flag on his jacket!

Miguel O’Hara x gn!reader; angst, death, mention of Miguel’s daughter

A/N: I wanted to rewrite the scene where everything glitches out for Miguel in the wrong universe except add an x reader component to it

"Cariño! I'm coming!" Miguel yells, running as fast as his legs can carry him. His chest is tight from the lack of oxygen, but he can't stop. He clutches his daughter as close as he can as she cries, grabbing at her father's chest.

There's an ocean of people separating you, frantic with a hunger to escape. People are trampling each other, shoving one other out of the way to evade the impending chaos. Everything is collapsing on itself—buildings disappearing out of thin air, countless people vanishing without a trace. It was only a matter of time before Miguel's decisions caught up with him.

"Miguel!" You cry out, trying to grab his hand. He thrusts through the crowd of people in a desperate attempt to reach you, but can't get close enough. Your fingertips touch, but fall away just as quickly as you're torn apart again.

He's known all along he isn't yours, but he gave everything to pretend like he was. Just to see you smile again. To hold his daughter. However, fate had better plans than entertaining a man like him.

No, Miguel O'Hara is a liar. And he had to pay.

You gasp as a shock runs through your system, the universe fighting itself as all Miguel's rights and wrongs converge at the cross-street of your body. You writhe in pain, falling to your knees as you sob in pain. He keeps trying, he's trying, but the crowd is merciless. They push him further and further away from you as his baby girl cries.

You reach out weakly for him, searching the crowd, hoping he'll come. But all you see is a blur of color, of faces and bodies who belong to strangers.

"Please, Miguel, don't leave me—" the last thing he sees is your eyes. Haunted, terrified. Waiting for him to come and save you, but he never could. That Miguel died along time ago.

You glitch in and out of the universe, along with his daughter in his arms. He looks down at her, crying out, but you're both gone before he can get the words out.

Miguel jolts out of the nightmare in a cold sweat. The memory is as vivid as the day he lost both of you. He feels hollow. Empty. He stares at the ceiling, venom coursing in his veins.

Miles Morales cannot make the same mistakes he did. Miguel won't let him. He won't let another universe be destroyed because of one person's selfishness.

Altering canon only leads to death and disaster—he knows better than anyone. Miles has to be stopped, at all costs.

He may have escaped this time, but Miguel won't make the same mistake twice.

No, there’s only one way this timeline ends.

Wesley’s arc is not a glow up, it is a tragedy! When he’s at his lowest, he puts on a Angel impersonation hyper-masculine facade as a defence mechanism, repressing all the vulnerability and personality quirks that he was shamed for growing up. While in s1 this is treated as comedy, in s3 he performs successfully enough to be convincing, but he ends up isolated, depressed, and losing his grip on reality. He can’t get help or rebuild his relationships because of his fear of displaying “unmanly” vulnerability. His fighting skills, which have steadily been improving as he gains confidence in his abilities, instead seem to advance because he stops caring about his own safety, and in the end it gets him killed. Wesley is not a role model, he is a cautionary tale.

ok i watched across the spiderverse last night and i feel like stuff clearly relating to gender identity with gwen & her dad while not blatantly spoken it was VERY clear to me the intention for the scene being a trans allegory… it felt good to be seen especially because i just left florida. THEN finding out joaquim dos santos was one of the directors. and josh keaton is in it. it was like a horror movie jump scare its like when i found out the music in encanto was by lin manuel miranda. BUT THE COLORATION DONE IN THE SCENES NOW ARE GIVING VOLTRON RAINBOW BISEXUAL SKY… IM GOING TO LOSE MY MIND…
