30. Favorite Season Finale The Gift - Season 5

This shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone. I've talked about my love for s5 before, I think.

The season 5 finale is my favorite because overall, it's incredibly moving. The quote "The hardest thing to do in this world is live in it." is one that's stuck in my head constantly.

Seeing the Scoobies reactions to Buffy's body gracefully lying on rubble is heart-wrenching - especially Spike's. Watching this man sob violently, breaking down over the death of the woman his whole world revolved around... I'm sad!

I remember my jaw dropping when Buffy jumped into the vortex-thingy Glory had opened. Realistically, I knew she couldn't actually be dead - I mean, there were two seasons left. You can't have Buffy the Vampire Slayer without Buffy!

But ohh, my God, it was so shocking. Yet it suited her well. She's always been a self sacrificial character. It would make sense for her to go out like that.

While I would've been incredibly underwhelmed if the titular character died and that was the end of the show, no epilogue or anything like that, I think it was an ending that felt like Buffy. I don't know how to explain it in a way that makes sense, but I hope you all understand what I'm saying.

I just love it so much. Season 5 is good as hell.

I liked what you said about hyde and fez and I'd like to see your thoughts on fez and kelso too whenever you have the time

Fez and Kelso start out as rivals, not friends. Fez is romantically and sexually interested in Jackie, Kelso’s girlfriend. Fez believes (rightly) that Kelso isn’t treating Jackie with respect, and Fez doesn’t hide this fact.

Fez often insults Kelso, and Kelso isn’t any nicer to Fez. Besides threatening to beat up Fez for hitting on Jackie -- and one time actually punching him for kissing Jackie in “Garage Sale” (2x01) -- he’s generally disrespectful toward Fez. He hurts him emotionally and physically (though the latter usually out of idiocy and a lack of common sense, not malice).

This rivalry, however, sometimes turns into camaraderie when Jackie’s interest in Hyde grows during seasons 2 and 3. “The rival of my rival is my friend,” to riff on of a well-known axiom. 

In season 4, the tension remains between Fez and Kelso. They’re no longer rivals but not quite friends. They’re both heavily involved in their romantic relationships storyline-wise, so their friendship doesn’t have much time to develop.

In season 5, however, their dynamic transitions into true friendship and eventually a bromance. Fez’s affection toward Kelso grows so much that he has an erotic dream about him. Because That ‘70s Show’s heteronormative writing, the possibility that Fez had developed romantic and/or sexual feelings for Kelso is not truly explored except for jokes.

Gay panic fills Kelso and Fez’s arc during “You Shook Me” (5x22) and “Nobody’s Fault but Mine” (5x23). Kelso even worries that he is gay because Fez had that dream about him.

Later in “You Shook Me,” Kelso and Jackie have the following conversation about what Fez’s dream might mean:

Kelso: What if [Fez is] in love with me? I don’t know that I can return those feelings. Jackie: No, of course you can’t. Kelso: Sure, he’s super cool. And he’s good looking. And we have a ton in common. But I can’t … Jackie: I know. I know, baby. I know. Kelso: I just wonder what I did to make this happen. I mean, should I have tried to be less desirable?

By the episode’s end, Kitty gives Kelso and Fez an easy escape from their romantic/sexual confusion and concerns. 

Kitty:  Dreams are just compilations of what you experience during the day. What’d you do yesterday? Fez: Kelso and I looked at nurses. Oh, and I ate thirty-nine spicy egg rolls that were on the floor. Kitty: Well, spicy foods; there you go. You know, one time I ate stuffed peppers before I went to bed, and I dreamt that I ended a war by giving the prime minister a belly dance. Fez: So my dream didn’t mean anything! Kelso: Oh, thank God! I mean I love you Fez, just not in that way. Fez: And my appreciation for you beauty is purely aesthetic. Kelso: You know what, Fez? Maybe right now is not a great time for you to be complimenting my ass.

Heterosexuality reconfirmed. Platonic love confirmed. Joke made.

But throughout season 6, Fez and Kelso’s friendship is often written as a romantic one -- again, for the jokes. They “break up,” and Fez even returns Kelso’s things in a classic break-up trope. Jackie comforts Fez as if they both experienced a bad boyfriend in Kelso. Eventually, Suzy Simpson tricks Fez and Kelso into confronting each other. They reconcile in a slow-motion, quasi-romantic scene, where tossing Tater Tots into each other’s mouths is a non-sexual stand-in for kissing.

Canonically, Fez and Kelso have a platonic but intimate friendship in the later seasons. T7S’s writing, though, doesn’t demonstrate a respect for or deep understanding of that kind of friendship unless it has a brotherly aspect (e.g., Eric and Hyde). Nor does T7S’s writing demonstrate an interest in exploring non-straight romance. Hence, gay panic is injected into Fez and Kelso’s relationship. The writers use it to facilitate conflict between Fez and Kelso as well as Jackie and Hyde and, in later episodes, conflate platonic intimacy between men with romantic intimacy to create humor.

and like, dawn being a key, a key fits in a lock, and there's something about like,, the person closing these portals in 2x22→5x22→7x22, it's like, they're this person-sized perfect shape to close up that tear in the world .... (thinking about "gingerbread" the kid who stuck his finger in the duck again.....) ..... like LITERALLY tikkun olam it's so literal like,, the world had a hole in it and spike put his body in that hole and closed it.... im WORKED UP

Hi! Could you do a set with big gifs with a lyric song and some moments after angel/ buffy break up, please? Like the buffy’s face during anya speech about her love for xander in season 6, or buffy told giles how much she loved angel in 5x22, or buffy speech in 7x04.. Angel told cordelia buffy was the only girl he loved in 243 in3x01 of ats.. or the fact that in 2x01 of ats angel wear the claddagh ring and told cordelia that he saw the light at the end of the tunnel
