. . .
Someone asked me a weird question, and I'm not sure I can give a straight answer but... based on what little I understand:
The Nintendo Wii version of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core is based on the original PlayStation 2 port of the game.
The Nintendo Switch version of Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R is "supposedly" based on the Arcade version of Plus R.
I don't have the precise details on this, so I can't confirm it or not.
All I can say is that the Steam version/PC version of Accent Core Plus R is probably the closest to the Arcade version, even compared to the XBox360 version.
This is largely why it might prove difficult to port Accent Core Plus R to the PlayStation 4/5 at this time... since the PlayStation 3 version of Accent Core Plus R is a "bad port" of the Arcade version... they would likely have to make a port of PlusR from Scratch for PS5 (if they ever decided to).
If anyone has more details on PlusR they could divulge to add to this post, I'd appreciate it... but so far, all I can really say is that Plus R itself is fundamentally an "arcade version" of Accent Core Plus (ACPlus was an "append" to the original PS2 port of the game, but later ported to Arcades in a completely different way).
It took nearly a year to "patch" to the PS3 version of Accent Core Plus to a semi-stable "Plus R" build... so that should give you some idea why the PC version is probably the most stable version in existence.
Prior to ACPlus on the PS2, was the unstable builds of Accent Core, which are famous for the I-No Fortissimo Crash bug, among other issues it had.
Prior to that was GGXX Slash and GG Isuka builds, which were based on Blue Reload, which was based on Red Reload which was based on the original "unpatched" Guilty Gear XX: The Midnight Carnival.
GGXX had several "Arcade Naomi ports" based on the games I just listed, but they aren't nearly as big a project as Plus R was to reverse-port.
Again, I have no idea if they will ever port this game to PS4 or PS5... but I have my doubts.
It's also why it's less likely to see a modern port of GGX1.5 or Guilty Gear X Plus on anything beyond Naomi/Atomiswave/PS2 console emulation.

What era are we talking about when it comes to retro games hardware? I’m partial to the Sega NAOMI and that era of Arcade cabs:)
normally by "retro" I mean anything before the PS3/360/WiiU but I'm willing to stretch that to "any console that isn't getting regular support anymore" depending on context 💚
anyways I'm not TOO knowledgeable about the Naomi (higher end arcades like this tend to be out of my grasp u.u) BUT i DO know about it thanks to its games getting tons of ports, and by extension a few Naomi games by virtue of them getting ported. My personal favorite is Marvel Vs. Capcom 2!! I love that game so so much!! 😊
besides that one i don't actually have much experience with the Naomi... I've played a bunch of its games like Crazy Taxi (on Dreamcast), Typing of the Dead (on PC) OR Puyo Pop Fever (on just about everything) but that's mostly been ports, not on actual hardware...
still! the Dreamcast is a console that's very dear and near to my heart!! so the idea of an arcade cabinet that's just a more powerful variant of the Dreamcast, a console that's very dear and near to my heart, is very interesting to me!!
the main thing I find interesting about cabinets like this is the fact that they usually have cartdriges instead of optical media! even tho I don't actually have a disc drive installed on my Dreamcast, the load times introduced by it are still VERY noticeable.
this might be just a me thing, but usually with Naomi to DC ports I don't see much of a difference. it makes me wonder just how much use they're actually getting out of that extra power... it reminds me a bit of the Atomiswave, a different cabinet that's even closer to the Dreamcast's specs, to the point where a bunch of its games have gotten unofficial ports to the base Dreamcast!
anyways the Naomi is a very cool arcade cabinet, and a bunch of its games are ones i love and have played a lot despite my little experience with the real deal! anyways did you know there's an Azumanga Daioh game on the Naomi? I didn't until I started looking up info on it just now! that's crazy!
