Eddie sent the message and immediately shoved his phone into the cup holder, not wanting to look at it because he knew that if he did then he would feel the urge to obsessively wait for the dot dot dot signalling that Buck was typing.

It wasn’t until they were back at the house and inside that Eddie let himself look at his phone.

That’s fantastic! I’m so happy for him.

There was a pause and then Eddie saw the speech bubble again, Buck as typing again.

I’m also happy to hear from you, I didn’t think I would.

Eddie’s breath caught. He was surprised but glad that apparently hearing from him wasn’t a bad thing for Buck. In fact, it was something Buck was happy about. Eddie felt giddy.

I wasn’t sure that you wanted to hear from me.

He wasn’t sure what it was about Buck that made it so easy to be honest with him but Eddie liked it.

Of course I wanted to hear from you. I really wanted to ask how your son’s project went but I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to bother you again.

Eddie sighed.

One day you’ll realize that you’re not bothering me, Buck. I like talking to you.

im still taking a little break from kinktober, the smut beans just haven't returned to me but have a lil more of the drunk pining fic!

Buck rested his cheek on his palm and asked, “Do you think Eddie would ever want to be my boyfriend?”

“Uh, Buck—” Lucy started, looking at something off to the side of him. Buck paid her no mind though.

“I just think we could be good together, y’know?” Buck said, waving off Natalia when she tried to get his attention. “I like him so much and I wish I could kiss him.”

“Buck, he’s—” Lucy tried again but Buck wasn’t looking at her, he was staring into his water glass like it held the answers to all his problems.

“I’m probably never going to tell him that I want him, but I wish I could.” Buck sighed, running his finger through the condensation on his glass. “I’d be such a good boyfriend, I think I could make him happy.”

“Buck.”

This time Buck did listen, turning his head to the side and finally taking note of Eddie.

“Eddie,” Buck breathed, a happy smile on his lips. “You got here so fast.”

“It’s been over twenty minutes, Buck,” Eddie replied, amused. “You ready to go?”

“Yeah!” Buck stumbled out of the booth, seemingly unaware that he had just blabbered on about his crush to his crush. His short term memory sucked when he drank. He turned his attention to Lucy and Natalia. “Are you guys going to be okay?”

“We’ll be fine,” Natalia answered, sharing a knowing look with Lucy.
