feeling sad because the best car yuki ever got was the one he drove in his first year, and then alphatauri got fucked over by the regulations and has barely recovered since then
but i have hope! the at04 started out dogwater last year, and at the end, gave us yuki's first ever laps lead, so who knows! maybe we'll see a yodium!
#nightfalcon posts#formula 1#f1#yuki tsunoda#'why'd they keep yuki even though he hasn't even gotten on the podium yet?'#because the at03 got fucked over hard by the new regulations#the at04 was on recovery#don't get me started on the vcarb01 i have a lot of suspicions on what happened there

FIRST LOOK: AlphaTauri reveal livery for 2023 AT04 at glitzy New York F1 season launch
AlphaTauri have become the latest F1 team to launch their 2023 season, showing off the livery that will adorn the yet-to-be-presented AT04 challenger during a special event in New York. Long-time team boss Franz Tost, continuing driver Yuki Tsunoda and new arrival Nyck de Vries were all on hand for Saturday’s reveal, which followed Red Bull’s own season launch in the Big Apple a week ago. WATCH: AlphaTauri’s new F1 car roars into life with pre-season fire up Coinciding with New York’s famous Fashion Week, the launch represented a perfect fit for the AlphaTauri fashion brand, who are owned by Red Bull and replaced Toro Rosso as the Faenza squad’s official name in 2020. In a suitably stylish unveiling, AlphaTauri presented a now traditional deep blue and white colour scheme for their new car, which will be powered by Honda engines running under the Red Bull Powertrains moniker. However, red highlights now complement the palette courtesy of Polish oil refiner and petrol retailer ORLEN linking up with the team as a ‘Principal Partner’ for 2023, having moved across from rivals Alfa Romeo. A dash of red has made its way onto the AlphaTauri livery AlphaTauri head into the new season looking to turn their recent F1 fortunes around, having slipped from sixth in the 2021 constructors’ standings to ninth in 2022, when all-new technical regulations came into play. Japanese racer Tsunoda keeps his place at the team for a third successive season, with De Vries arriving in place of Alpine-bound Pierre Gasly after the Dutchman’s impressive stand-in performance for Williams at last year’s Italian Grand Prix. BARRETTO: Why AlphaTauri’s newest recruit Nyck de Vries could be 2023’s dark horse Speaking at the launch of AlphaTauri’s new livery, and looking at the year ahead, Tost said: “I think that the whole field will be much closer together. Of course, the big three teams still have an advantage from their infrastructure, from the personnel side, but I’m quite convinced that in 2023 the cars will be much more evenly matched. “In addition, while [Max] Verstappen won the championship quite early on in the season last year, I don’t expect that one driver will have such a big advantage this year and win so early. “I think it will become a fight that goes on until the end of the season. That’s what the fans, spectactors, and we all want to see.” With the AT04’s livery out in the open, it means half of F1’s 10 teams have revealed their colours ahead of the new season – Aston Martin being the next outfit due for launch on February 13. TEAM GUIDE: The essential lowdown on Italian team AlphaTauri as Tsunoda and De Vries prepare for 2023 AlphaTauri and the rest of the F1 grid will gather at the Bahrain International Circuit for pre-season testing from February 23-25, with the opening round of the campaign following a week later at the same Sakhir venue. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

Was Iwasa driving Daniel’s car because it literally just went up in smokes right now?
#miss AT04 has suffered a lot this season including random tyres and a trip into the barriers#she’s given up#at least she waited after a Grand Prix to do it

As happy we may be for Daniel, the reality of it all is that he’s joining the statistically worst team of the 2023 grid with, i bet you, mind-blowing expectations from the RBR principals. It doesn’t matter how competitive Daniel looks on those laps, he will be driving the AT04 not the RB19.
Yuki Tsunoda has been driving variations of that car for two years and a half and he has only scored 2 points this season. Nyck De Vries, as a rookie, was expected to top his best finish (12th) on that car, which he couldn’t and I bet it’s not a matter of skill at all. Daniel Ricciardo has experience in f1, and I don’t doubt that he will bring the best out of that car but I believe there’s expectations that won’t be fulfilled no matter how much you bring out, especially on a season where middle field teams are so strong. So we come back to the fact that, as a team, it’s more than alright to have expectations, but have them attached to the level of the car you are providing.
This situation is simply not good for anyone but the media and gossip, not even for the PR teams because, once again, RBR comes back as a team that doesn’t give a proper opportunity to their rookies (which also can have repercussions on who will be accepting RBR seats in the future). Daniel may do better than Nyck or he may not, either way, this is just the downgrade of two drivers that gave and will give their all for a ruthless sport.

Just as I was feeling more optimistic that Racer article punched me in the face. Helmut basically gave Daniel an ultimatum into racing for this shitty AT this season instead of next which was his preference, and then the complimentary press release had “Wednesday” on it so it made it look like all of Horner’s quotes were just PR bullshit…Anyways, Helmut remains the worst.
Or are they
(re: Horner's quotes being PR bullshit)
We all knew if daniel performed well, he might get Checo's seat. It's Horner and Marko's discretion as to whether or not Daniel detours to AT first. According the Chris Medland article:
Before tire test:
After tire test:
To me this is a very strong upward trajectory. It's true Daniel will now need to once again prove himself in a tractor with weak brakes. But everybody is aware of AT04's limits. In fact it's currently THE slowest car on the grid as in...dead last. 10th in constructors. Daniel's main goal is basically to outperform Yuki and if he can't? I probably wouldn't want to see him back in that RB seat either bc it would've pretty much been a guaranteed heartbreak. I'd like to believe his mclaren years had prepared him to handle cars like this. and if today tells us anything: Daniel knows how to race and his form won't just go away bc of a couple of races (years) in a slow car.
Now. Regarding Daniel's pace. It's important to remember that he tested without tire blankets (to warm tires up for optimal performance w/o deg/wear). Here's a lil comparison between driver's fastest lap times in last weekend's Quali (with the help of tire blankets) vs their pace in tire test: (src1, src2)
Tire Test Quali Ratio RIC 1:27.415 ? ? HUL 1:30.276 1:28.896 98.471% MAG 1:31.247 1:32.378 101.239% ALB 1:32.453 1:27.530 94.675% (kevin's car stopped 3 minutes before end of Q1, hence the longer quali time)
Now, I'm no statistics major, and this is gonna be a math model with very limited samples, but on average HUL, MAG and ALB had been able to achieve 98.128% of their tire test time in quali, which translates Daniel's 1:27.415 test time to a 1:25.779 quali time, a lap time that would've put him on pole last Saturday, in line with news outlets have suggested. Bear in mind this was taking Kevin's stats into account whose car actually stopped on track mid Q1. If not, this calculation would've put Daniel's projected quali time in the 1'24 range. Even tho this is a calculation based on limited info, I'd say the results are very promising and Daniel's pace is obviously competitive, just as many sources suggested.
In conclusion!! Daniel will do great. I personally have no doubt 🤍

For the first time in a long while, maybe since the end of his Renault days in 2020, Ricciardo is on the front foot. The cadence to his weekend is delightfully positive: get in the car, have a good feeling, do a decent job, see something to improve, go out to improve it, actually improve it.
Lap-to-lap, run-to-run, session-to-session, Ricciardo has been in the ascendancy. It’s been a long time since we could say that.
It’s partly circumstance driven, given the low base he will have started from with his unfamiliarity with the AT04. But he blew a lot of the cobwebs away in his Red Bull tyre test. So, this has also been legitimate in-weekend progress, not something unduly flattered – as if Ricciardo was a second off the pace on Friday then a respectable two or three tenths back in qualifying.
Much of Ricciardo’s time at McLaren was spent seeing what Lando Norris was doing, knowing where his own deficits were, and then… struggling to do anything about it.
That has definitely not been the case so far this weekend, which is a small but important early win for the attitude Ricciardo came to Hungary with: he would do this on his terms, drive the car his way, and it would be a natural process. For better or worse.
So far, it’s for the better. It’s far too early to say that Ricciardo’s cracked the AlphaTauri and will be a real force alongside Tsunoda. That’ll take several races to determine. But he has forged a decent early connection with the car. And this is already a demonstrably different version of Ricciardo to the last one we saw in F1.

friendly reminder that liam and daniel's points combined would not have put them over haas at all, and if you only took yuki's total points, yuki singlehandedly beat alfaromeo, who scored a total of 16 points to yuki's 17
this is why yuki and daniel were chosen as the line-up this year, because yuki is the multiple-point scorer in the at04, before and after all the upgrades
#nightfalcon posts#formula 1#f1#yuki tsunoda#daniel ricciardo#for all those baying for yuki's blood and saying liam should be in the seat#also there could be a chance that liam would make a mistake and y'all would pivot and call him a hack lmfao#'honda merchant' and who scored points when the at04 was shit?#who scored points multiple times after all the upgrades?#who got double points in brazil? yuki
