i see you saying that it’s heartbreaking that wymack set up the foxes to help people with trauma but couldn’t help his own son and i raise you: wymack saved kevin before kevin left the nest, without even knowing. kevin never would have left the nest if he didn’t have somewhere to go, and wymack - with the media attention he garnered with the foxes - became such a trustworthy figure in kevin’s mind that he didn’t doubt for a second that wymack would take him in and keep him as safe as he could. wymack did help kevin, before they had even met each other, by being such a strong beacon of hope that kevin was drawn to him despite the fact that he was raised and abused in a cult and probably found trusting anyone difficult, let alone someone he hadn’t met.

something else to consider: the foxes are still a newish team (if i remember correctly seth’s year is their first year, dan is their second, meaning neil is their fifth), and jean tells neil that kevin only found out wymack was his dad a few years ago when neil is in the nest. this means that kevin will have been aware of who wymack was - outside of wymack having played the sport prior to coaching - and would have seen the type of person he was before he knew they were related. he’d have witnessed from after wymack fighting tooth and nail to support his foxes despite all the mess, the tragedies, would have seen him staying firm in his belief in second chances BEFORE he found out wymack was his dad.

think - kevin saying to jean imagine having that. jean would say it’s a publicity stunt, it’s not real, those types of people don’t exist and kevin would agree and say they’re a shit team anyway, but something about wymack always rang true to him. maybe after that conversation he didn’t bring it up - other than to say i think my mother would’ve liked dan wilds when it’s announced she’s the new captain. but he still sees wymack’s actions in his periphery, and it’s enough to build up a picture of him as someone who is real. and then he finds out it’s his dad

imagine how that would have been for kevin - going from living in a cult, cut off from any family he may have had after kayleigh’s death to suddenly being told he has a dad, and that dad is the type of person who would have risked himself if he knew what was happening to kevin.

there's something very funny about wymack recruiting neil and seeing him as this jumpy, cagey asf kid with alarmingly absent parents and then watching him befriend the monsters, speak three languages, start fights with riko moriyama, be incredibly apathetic to violence, join the perfect court and reveal that he uses alcohol as pain reliever because it's too dangerous for him to go to a hospital, unite the team and fall in love with wymack's other problem child, all for him to turn out to be the son of kengo moriyama's right hand man.

Unpopular Opinion but Andrew sees Wymack as more of a parental figure than Betsy.

Hear me out. He crashes on his couch, talks to him about Neil, stays over at his place all the time. He stays there the weekend after Higgins call.

Obviously he cares about Betsy, and she is his mother figure and friend but I think wymack is his go to when he just needs to decompress

he would’ve also brought it up so their relationship wouldn’t get in the way of their careers but thought Neil was going to die in a couple months so he kept it to himself. Kevin kept his opinion to himself for once in his life. and it was relating to Andrew and Neil’s relationship.

neil is very quiet for a long time after joining the foxes. no matter how vigilant wymack tried to be, he never heard neil coming while they lived together. he got very good at hiding his flinch because neil definitely scared him more than he scared neil

Andrew's Actor isn't one for violence so the amount of bloopers they had gone through when Andrew slams the racquet into Neil's torso was a lot. He was just worried he actually hurt Neil's actor lol

Allison and Andrew's Actors are best friends in real life who auditioned together and roped Aaron's actor into this. Allison and Andrew's Actors find it hilarious that they have to play disliking each other

Due to the vague description of Dan's character, Renee's actor originally auditioned to be Dan. When she finds out more about Renee's character in the later books she isn't too peeved she got a different role

Dan and Neil's Actors get close on set and frequently fuck with Kevin and Matt's Actors just for fun

Nicky's Actor treats Andrew and Aaron's Actors like they are his actual cousins. It gets to a point where Nicky invites them to a real family gathering and they just go along with it

Wymack's Actor has no shortage of cusses and frequently gets tongue tied with longer monologues. It leads to Seth's Actor making fun of him and the other Foxes catch on quickly

Riko's Actor is usually extremely soft spoken and kind, so it freaks other cast members out whenever he has to put on the Riko persona

Andrew and Aaron's Actors have a Scottish Accent but have a really good American accent so the cast forgets they are from Scotland frequently

Kevin's Actor has an Irish accent & Neil's is British

Kevin's Actor despises sports. He only regrets auditioning a little

Kevin and Jeremy's Actors have to do many takes of their interaction in TKM because Neil's Actor is making faces at them behind camera and they can't stop laughing
