Hello! I write stories in horror genre. I've been wanting to incorporate more disabled characters in these, because I feel like they're really underrepresented in the genre except for either demonizing roles of antagonists, or a random victim who dies/is exploited for cheap shock because of their disability. One of the stories I'm working on has intellectually disabled protagonist/narrator. Are there any things you'd recommend to avoid in writing a character with ID in context of horror genre specifically?
Hi!
I have a few problems with ID characters in horror media. Two of the three biggest ones you've actually already covered in your ask, so I'll just add quick explanations for people not familiar with them.
First is the "big intellectually disabled man murders everyone", not even because he's evil or is seeking revenge or whatever, but because he "doesn't understand" that murder bad. It's absurdly insulting and writers don't seem to understand that a lot of real life cases where an ID man "committed" a brutal crime are a result of police manipulation and tricking them into "confessing", but that's a very long and frustrating topic.
Second one is the victim thing. Hardly exclusive to any minority, but with ID characters it often seems like they're the first of many victims and their death is usually ignored because who cares (granted, pretty realistic) until more people start dying and all that. Dogs tend to get more sympathy (also realistic).
Third thing that I hate is the "everything is Normal... until the character is revealed to have mental [R word]!!! (scary music)". Generally in the sense that the situation seems completely fine, the protagonist has no actual traits of ID, but then at some point they find out they have ID (usually severe or profound, which is ridiculous in this context) and suddenly the actions of those around them are pretty clearly fucked up (the character is actually held hostage, kidnapped, about to be murdered, you get it). It uses intellectual disability as a shock factor and as some worst-case scenario nightmare fuel for abled people, even though the situation makes no sense (no, a profoundly ID person isn't going to be reading their medical records and find out this way) and wouldn't happen. It's insulting nonsense.
Another thing that is insensitive in my opinion is the institution/SPED setting. Definitely not because nothing evil happens in there (quite the opposite) but because the way it's usually treated is completely devoid of empathy and the actual victims are portrayed as animals almost (or not so almost). I'd just stray away from the extreme real-life abuse scenarios (abusive caregivers, borderline slavery "work"places, purposeful medical malpractice) that do actually happen if you don't have a lot of experience or aren't working with someone who does.
Last thing, kinda connected to the third, is to not make any bizarre connections between the disability and the horror. ID can make someone trust others more which could lead to a situation that's potentially Scary, but it doesn't have much to do with demons or the parents doing something fucked up before the person was born.
There are of course other things that are kinda tired, but not completely made-up. ID people are victims of crime way more often, that's a statistic that's been true since the dawn of time. But it doesn't mean that they won't fight back because they're disabled. I'd love to see a character who actually wins against the antagonist at some point (even if just for a moment, considering it's horror) - whether they're physically stronger, or know the place better so they get away, or manage to keep calm because they haven't realized they're in a dangerous situation, it would be awesome to see.
Some additional notes that might or might not apply depending on what kind of horror it is;
A lot of people with ID aren't going to be reacting to the regular horror stuff the same way as your average horror character might. They might not think much when they hear a Suspicious Sound and not go investigate it, or be too scared because it's an Unfamiliar Situation. What would be more realistic in a scenario like this is the ID character actually reaching out for help (depends on the settings what that would be); most of us get it drilled into our brain to listen to authority, so they would probably be calling the cops rather than going into the Scary Basement, even if just in the fear of not doing the thing you're supposed to.
In more of an eldritch horror setting where there is an incomprehensible Thing happening, a character with a significant intellectual disability literally has an advantage over abled people. It's just one of many incomprehensible things. Many of us are simply used to ignoring things that don't make sense since the majority of people don't have the patience to explain things in a way that's actually helpful.
It'd be also cool for the ID character to actually have a goal, objective, or whatever else to drive them forward and have some development. Whether that would be the desire to find out who murdered their ex-husband, or why the sink has blood instead of water, or just to survive the voyage, basically anything other than just standing there only experiencing things when some abled savior shows up and tells them how to feel and what to do (both bad for an ID character but also just a poorly written protagonist of any kind).
Hope this helps !

HANK PYM COSTUME RATINGS
At long last, here are my thoughts on the many looks and identities of Marvel’s own Hank Pym!!! Being a fan of this guy is a real rollercoaster, but his costumes are always so great and interesting, ive wanted to talk about them for ages!!! As some of his looks kinda blend together Ive tried to stick with the bare essentials (barring ones i especially like) but you can generally assume that i rate most of the suits of a given identity the same unless i specifically state otherwise. So here we go!!!!!
Tumblr media
Ant-Man 10/10
What can i say? You can’t make an ant themed character much cooler than this. The irresistible 60s scifi charm of his big chrome helmet, the red, black, and blue color scheme with patterns that say “i am a super scientist” but gloves that say “im attemptint to look visually interesting.” Naturally Hank forgets he’s wearing some of the coolest headgear in comics. Ant-Man has had some good looks and updates but the charm of this one is pretty undeniable.
Tumblr media
Giant Man 8/10
I think we can all agree that Giant Man kinda sucks, but damn if he didnt look cool! I guess he kept the antennae to keep some Ant-Man functionality, but you rarely see him using it. That’s fine though, it gives him a cool and distinct silhouette. It’s strange, if this were a new look for him as Ant Man, id call it a more considerable downgrade, yet Hank becoming Giant Man is a downgrade in just about every sense of the word. And even so, i LOVE Giant Man! It’s a conundrum!
Tumblr media
Giant Man Redux: 6/10
I think they were trying to recapture the scifi tech charm of Ant-Man with this one, and it does kinda work! I think my main issue with this one is that it doesnt stick around long enough to really win me over. There are far more minor and insignificant variations of Hank’s suits that stick around way longer than this one. And id say this suit’s pretty damn significant, he left the Avengers for the the first time wearing this shit! I wish they’d played around with it some more.
Tumblr media
Goliath: 8/10
Goliath is extremely solid. I have to wonder if Marvel was conscious of Giant Man being a loser that they felt the need to rebrand him like this, there’s little significant changeover from his previous identity other than color scheme and name besides him being stuck at 10 ft tall for a bit. I LOVE the addition of the goggles btw, one of my earliest exposures to that design trope i love so much.
The weird thing with Goliath is that they make him look more and more like Giant Man while refusing to change his name. Like again i know the guy got his ass best plenty of times but when you add antennae and red to his costume….that’s just Giant Man! But whatever the case, i give Goliath and all of his iterations a solid thumbs up.
Tumblr media
Yellowjacket: 10/10
The PINNACLE as far as im concerned. What if you took Ant-Man and refined his charming but clunky scifi elements into something sleek, aerodynamic, and downright badass, while still having bright colors? You get Yellowjacket! I can’t stress how much i loved this suit as a kid. Do you know how rare it is to have a primarily yellow superhero who looks cool? It’s mostly just Wolverine, and he didn’t even exist at this point! I also like how it sorta resembles Wasp’s original outfit, though you probably wouldn’t get a chance to compare given Jan’s ever shifting wardrobe. It’s really a shame how maligned the Yellowjacket identity is because id love to see this design again, but its lasting association with the worst shit ever done with Hank pretty much made sure that’ll never happen.
Tumblr media
West Coast Avengers: -/10
It’s funny that what is arguably the height of Hank’s superhero career comes from when he’s vehemently not a superhero anymore. Thus, in terms of costumes…well this isnt a costume! But for what it is, it’s great. A nice practical super science getup. But i have trouble rating it on the same scale as the rest. Just know that I love it!
Tumblr media
90s Hank: 5/10
I was ready to rip this thing a new one, but tbh it isnt bad. The only thing that keeps it from being truly good is the stupid pouches, but i cant outright call it bad when it’s basically a worse version of Atlas from Thunderbolts’ costume without them. It’s passable.
Tumblr media
Giant Man???: 10/10
Yeah, I know. Confusing, isnt it? Well listen, regardless of names and costumes and what have you, this is by far my favorite variation on the original Goliath look. The red goggles just do it for me! I love primary color schemes and i prefer a touch of red to a touch of yellow, yknow?
Tumblr media
Goliath??????: 8/10
So NOW he can be Goliath. That makes perfect sense. Yeesh. This suit is cool though i like it. It’s based on a Goliath suit Jan designed for Hank, but by then he’d had become Yellowjacket, so Hawkeye became Goliath for a while instead. It’s a nice callback, and while I don’t actually care for that Goliath look, there’s no way a redesign by George Perez at the height of his career and abilities is gonna be anything less than great.
Tumblr media
Wasp: 7/10
Was Mighty Avengers good? I read a couple of issues and remembered enjoying it, but that was when i hated every other Avengers book do idk if that means it was actually good, yknow? Anyway while losing Jan as the Wasp and gaining Hank is about as big a net loss as i can think of, this is NOT a bad look. There are only a few gripes i feel: I get what they were going for with the design on his chest but it makes him look like he’s The Stickbug and not The Wasp. Secondly, i think the goggles are kinda lame compared to some of his other eye/headwear he’s sported throughout the years. That’s about it! Not bad for the worst Wasp in the main continuity!

We've survived the highs and lows of Jyama Ball, but we're only a little bit closer to discovering who the Desaster is. If they go undiscovered to the final round, they win the game outright and get their ideal world. And with the mysterious executives, Keiwa, Neon, and Ace's respective sponsors, Archimedel, and Buffa all making their moves, something tells me the real game is only beginning.
...more importantly than any of that though, where the Hell are we headed now?! Why are there BOMBS everywhere? What do the Jyamato even have to gain from these constant invasions other than food and conquest?
All these questions and more... probably not answered today, but like, important to keep in mind.
Spoilers, I guess...
-Neooooon!
-Neon, baby, if you're the impostor I'm gonna cry.
-Good morning Chirami.
-Oh okay, we're supposed to become fan favorite. I see.
-Well, from what I've seen from the fandom as of yesterday, a number of folks have taken very kindly to Sae-san (rightfully so), so if this were the real world she'd probably win this. Doubly so if she's the Desaster.
-Oh shit! Sara-neesan!
-...oh, she's... she's fine, seemingly.
-Can't cut a pineapple smh.
-Bomb Pineapple!
-Ohhhh, we're dead.
-Jyamato Express!
-Fruit!
-Bombs!
-Fruit Bombs!
-Ooooooh, even more Jyamato ciphers.
-I imagine a lot of folks are hard at work.
-Blowing up an entire city block.
-I see Creepy Garden Daddy Archimedel's very proud of his little Freedom Clubbers.
-Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes!
-Damn, Takahashi's Steam list must be wilding.
-Secret Mission Clear!
-For you, fox man!
-Awwww, spider phone cute :)
-First Blood!
-The Gun!
-Magnum!
-It's back!
-Ringo?
-There's just something so funny to me about how minimal the Jyamato Pawn costumes are. Head, limbs, uniform, that's all you need.
-"OHHHHHH MY SISTER'S GETTING BOMBED"
-"Oh hey little bro, I got tied up. Can you do me a solid and get the kitchen knife?"
-Sae-san's very cool and collected under pressure. Can see why she was picked for this.
-Oh hey, Mrs. Kurama~! I'm still pissed you slapped my homegirl Neon, just so you're aware.
-"Neon's a big girl, she can handle herself. She'd never be able to achieve her dreams"
-Ohhhh, Papa Naoto. You're extremely sus.
-"Time to go to work. See you around."
-I see Mama Kurama's not an entirely heartless lunatic.
-You tell her, girl!
-I'm gonna be honest, I'd be proud of Neon if she were the Desaster.
-There's the Buffa Core ID.
-No doubt there's gonna be a lot of Zombie DNA in that mutant.
-Oh?
-Oh, hello.
-Sponsor-sama!
-So, she's got big plans for ol' Michinaga.
-Beroba...
-Ohhhhh, he's got an infection.
-"You wanna beat the shit outta all them dirty Kamen Riders, huh~? How about you let me pay for everything, no strings attached!"
-A proper sadist, this one!
-Takahashi's giving us a lot of interesting female characters this go around.
-Well, Beroba-san. You're obviously a cold-blooded murderer, you've got a killer fashion sense, your first appearance is accompanied by scary organ music, you're friends with Papa Archie, you got jelly beans...
-Yeah, you're totally trustworthy. I hear you're played by an idol?
-Sae-san... you care a hell of a lot about your family, huh?
-Oooooh, Okinawan.
-Keeping yourself in peak condition for your family. I happen to know a dude in a bathhouse who'd be very impressed with you, Sae-san.
-Neon...
-Who threw that bomb?
-"Did somebody say BOMB~!?"
-Gotta save Onee-sama!
-Ohhhh, sunset is fast approaching.
-I'm surprised we haven't seen lemons yet.
-At least, I don't think so, the picture quality I have ain't the best.
-Michinaga!
-Jurapira!
-Buffato!
-Oooooh, he's pissed!
-"Fuck the bull! Go get pineapples for our Hawaiian barbecue!"
-Can't get in!
-Ooooooh, Zombie Tycoon!
-Damn, Keiwa's playing hard!
-Red Wire.
-HOLY SHIT BUFFA DODGED POINT BLANK
-Goddamn, these stunts are sick every time I see 'em.
-OHHHHH MY DUDE JEAN GOT A GUN
-Okay I checked, it seems it's Gene, okay.
-Hello, Beroba-chan. Guess the dweebs are fighting.
-"I'm betting all my money on that buffalo guy."
-...seems that Gene's okay with this.
-OH GOD NEE-SAMA
-Red wire!
-Nut up man, do it!
-We did it!
-No more pineapple for ever.
-Sibling banter
-Oh man, it's dark out.
-Seems Michi's in no shape to kill anyone today.
-Compass!
-Snacc
-Well, gotta keep the sponsors happy.
-Oh, the producer's coming in.
-...wonder if this is a metaphor of some kind.
-Ah yep! Sae-san was the sussiest baka all along!
-Lone wolf Lopo played nice for so long.
-Oooooh, that's a Glare retool. ...I suppose Gazer's our new "coming in hot and spicy".
-I wonder if we're gonna see a new DGP higher-up come kick ass every new arc?
-...fuck, what if we have to beat up Mama Mitsume? I don't think poor Ace can handle it.
-Shit seems to be getting real now.

A Champion Time For The Heart Ch30 The Calm Before The Next Storm
Tumblr media
-FEBRUARY-
You were stunned. Absolutely STUNNED to say the least.
The nurse had looked at you in concern as you stared on in shock as you almost panickily examined the ID card in your hands and the nurse delivered your lunches. It..looked just like your driver's license(one of the few things you had actually wanted to learn without your mother nagging you-) you had left back home minus the fact that you had the pokemon world's region and city on it instead of your town's. Albeit slightly worn and dirty from assumedly being left out in the elements for a while. You then turned to the small bag in front of you the nurse had brought over but other than it being also torn and a bit dirty, nothing was inside it either. It looked just like a plain traveler's bag you'd buy to take on a hike with you. Your confusion only heightened as you ended up blankly staring at the ID card for a long moment. Nurse stared at your silence as the TV reporter on screen went on about Leon's winning streak staying in tack for more years to come apparently.
"Young lady?" You jumped whipping your head back to her as she raised a brow at you. "Are you alright? You're awfully silent all of all sudden."
"Uh...Y-Yeah." You blinked staring back to her for a moment before returning to the ID card..and shrugging. You know what? You've seen too much by now to not be surprised by anything anymore but hey. At least you had an actual ID for anything in case you needed it. You'd relax and figure this out later then. Placing the bag and ID to the side you smiled back to her to ease her concerns. "Yeah. I'm just fine. Just wasn't expecting to see that now of all times I guess."
She hummed before nodding. "I suppose when you're brought into the hospital those things don't cross your mind. Oh. That reminds me." Shee pointed at you. "The doctor gave me instructions to tell you. You're being discharged from the hospital first thing tomorrow morning."
You perked up. "Wait. Really!?"
SHe nodded. "He says you're fine and they're releasing you tomorrow since most of the chaos and excitement should be died down soon enough. I'm sure your friends will be here tomorrow morning to see you off."
You smiled wider. You'd get to see the guys again after not seeing them for over a month other than your brief encounter with them at Hammerlocke! "That's great! I can't wait to see them again!"
You spent the rest of that day in bed watching Leon give his speech and smile big and genuine and laugh. In fact you liked his laugh. In fact you liked him very much as a person. Sure he could come off as an air head or naive to those who don't know him but that was far from the truth. He was actually....Really, REALLY nice to be around. Sure he was a mostly goof off guy but he was also smart, caring, passionate, not afraid to help out others in an instant, patient, even playful and teasing, and someone who could be a good listener. No wonder he was such a good champion AND big brother. And no wonder everyone liked him. But with also an air of authority and...something else you couldn't quite place around him. Appeal maybe? He did seem like the guy to be a great friend. Man. Where was someone like him when you were growing up? You two could've been great friends. Oh well. All too soon dark came in the form of night, nurses delivered dinner trays, and you needed sleep. Bidding the nurse goodnight you yourself put yourself to bed because come morning you would see your friends again. It was harder to fall asleep that night due to the excitement you felt but you also found yourself waking up early in the morning just as the sun was starting to poke through. Probably the earliest you had EVER woken up. Yawning and a bit tired, but too excited to see everyone after so long. Getting up and making your bed and trying to make yourself look presentable for when they arrived. And you didn't have to wait for too long. You were just watching the morning news, something about the Vice Chairman taking all Mr. Rose's old funds and putting them towards rebuilding projects, when lots of footsteps stormed towards your room. And the door was SLAMMED opened without any warning. You yelped jumping and snapping your head to the door, TV remote dropping from your hands.
"Y/N!!"
"GAH-" You were nearly knocked over back onto the bed when a whole bunch of blur's dogpiled you and on instinct your arms shot up .....but you blinked. "GUYS!?" The three blurs that had nearly tackled you down to the floor was the guys! Victor, Hop, and Gloria! You stood there stunned to say the least before you smiled brightly. "GUYS!! What are you doing here?"
"We were worried sick about you, Mate!," Hop answered pulling away from you the other two following suit. You smiled at his concerned golden eyes that scanned over you for a moment before he asked. "Are you alright!? You were knocked on the noggin harder than Raihan's Max Steelspike attack! We were worried sick!"
"I'm fine. I'm fine!," you assured him before looking over and noticing the eyes of both twins staring up at you as well and you held up your hands smiling at them. "I swear I'm ok. The doctor said I was perfectly fine! Only a giant headache for a little bit. But what about you guys? Are you alright?"
"They're perfectly fine." A new voice cut through the air before any of the three could answer you and as you four looked up you again paused..before smiling again. Because standing in the doorway in his usual champion attire and cape was LEON! The purple haired man was smiling at you from the doorway looking no worse for wear except for the slight remains of his once black eye that was nearly gone. In his hands was your pack and he walked in. "A few scrapes and bruises but thankfully nothing serious."
"Leon!,'' you greeted happily with a bright smile. "What are you doing here too?"
"I wanted to come by and see you off myself with the others. Besides someone had to escort these guys here in the big city. Oh. Here. Before I forget." He held out your pack to you with a smile. "We brought your things over so you could change back into some regular clothes. Don't worry. Everything should still be in there where you left them."
You gladly took it from him. "Hey. Thanks Lee! That's really nice of you." You brought it into your arms before looking back to the smiling champion. "Hey. Congratulations on the win by the way! I really enjoyed your battle. How's Raihan?"
Leon chuckled with a bright smile crossing his arms. "Thanks! Rai's doing just fine! He snatched up his team and headed back to Hammerlocke sometime yesterday. He's been given the go ahead to just head home and see what he can do to help the repairs. The Vice Chairman took over all of Mr. Rose's operations so it's only a matter of time before things should be completely back to normal."
You sighed in relief. "That's good. Especially since you guys caught Eternatus." You smiled and turned back to Gloria and Hop who blinked at you....before looking at one another. "....What?"
"Um...Y/n. We didn't catch that thing," Gloria said looking back to you confused and you froze eyes widening.
"WHAT!?"
"We did something better!," Hop chimed in with a smile and thumbs up to you. "Zacian and Zamazenta destroyed Eternatus in a giant explosion of light! So I don't think we'll have to worry about it anymore."
Again you paused staring at them. Gloria...DIDN'T manage to catch Eternatus?!....But you soon calmed down and shrugged it off. You know what? Why not? Hop lost to Raihan in the finals and Leon's still champion. So why not have Eternatus destroyed instead of captured too in this world? As long as it couldn't harm anyone it was good enough for you and as long as the guys were fine you were ok with the outcome.
"Y'know what? That's good enough for me." You smiled. "Where are you guys heading after this?"
"Home of course."
"Postwick?"
Victor nodded. "And I 'pose you'll be headin' back home huh?" When you gave him a confused 'Huh?' look he gestured to the door. "Y'know. Back ta the Kalos Region. Glory told us ye might be headed back there after the final matches were over."
OH! That's right. You did tell Gloria that in case you did accidentally go poof back to your home back where ever you came from. You smiled wider. "Actually, I made up my mind to stay in Galar for while."
You received gasps and some happy smiles. "Really?! No way!"
You nodded. "Yeah. It turns out I like this region a lot so why not stay?"
"Does that mean you're gonna be traveling Galar more?"
You paused in thought. That...was a good question. What WERE you gonna do now that you were stuck in Galar permanently? Anything you wanted you guessed but you weren't too sure yet. What you wanted right now though was to just settle down in one place for a bit and live life stress free for a while. So you shrugged at Victor's question.
"I don't know. I really haven't figured that out yet, but I think I would like a small break from traveling for a bit."
Leon lit up. "Then why not come back to Postwick with us?,'' he suggested catching everyone's attention with his big smile, "Mum still hasn't found anyone to rent the basement room since we left last year. I'm sure if you ask she'd be more than happy to let you stay until you figure out where you wanna go from here."
"Ya Y/n! You can stay with us in the meantime! It'd be nice ta have another girl ta hang out with!," Gloria agreed with a smile.
...I mean it sounded like a plan! And you wouldn't mind hanging around your friends more, and Mrs. L was a pretty nice enough landlady to have! And it wouldn't be anything permanent. Just until you figured out what you wanted to do now. So you happily accepted his proposal.
"You know. I think I'd like that! Are you going to be coming with us as well?"
To your surprise Leon nodded to your question with a bright smile. "After with what happened I want to make sure everyone got home ok, and because after all this time I wanted to be able to see Mom and my grandparents again. After all Valentine's Day is nearing. What better way to celebrate the holiday of love than spending time with your loved ones?"
Ah. So Valentine's Day WAS a thing here too. You nodded in agreement again. He had a point. After all Valentine's Day was all about celebrating all kinds of love. Not just Romantic love.
"Lee jus' wants an excuse ta see someone he likes~,'' Victor teased with a sly smile.
And like before the champion sputtered a bit red rising to his cheeks as he attempted to laugh off Victor's tease by holding up his hands and laughing. ..But you all could see through it. "Haha! Come on, Vic! It's not like that! I-I don't like anyone."
"Is that why you're face is red?"
"Hop! Please!"
You ended up chuckling at everyone before they left you in your room for a moment so you could change into some regular clothes and throw on your coat. After all it was early February, it was still somewhat chilly outside. After throwing on your coat, you threw your pack over your shoulders, and picked the ID card back up, shrugged, and pocketed that too before you left. You'd worry about that later and focus on more important things like heading back to a home now. After all, you didn't have anything else to worry about after all......Right? You got changed and exited your old hospital room to meet everyone and a certain someone who was waiting for you as well. You had just stepped out and paused when the sight of a pink handed water type in that hoodie standing at Leon's side caught your attention...Or well he did when he alerted you to his presence with a very loud chirp making you look at him. In an instant he was walking towards you looking bored with his arms up and out like a toddler expecting a hug. You instantly smiled.
"SILVER!!" You instantly crouched down arms out towards him as he walked towards. "Silver c'mere boy!" he went right up to you and you snatched him right up bringing him into your arms as you stood and he laid his head on your shoulder with a relieved sigh sound as you proceeded to hug him. "Oh! There's my handsome guard pokemon! Were you good while I was gone?"
"He was an angel." you turned to Leon who smiled. "He did exactly as he was told the entire time you were in the hospital. It was honestly kinda cute watching him follow us around." Victor grumbled in embarrassment next to Lee and reached up to pull his beanie over his face. Making Lee chuckle before pointing towards a nearby elevator. "Come on. I have a flying taxi waiting for us outside to take us to the Wyndon Station. We'll take the evening train out of town and back to Postwick."
Sounded nice to you and for once you didn't mind traveling by corviknight. Leon lead you all into the elevator where the five of you was all a buzz with life and it made you smile as you followed Leon out of the elevator and through the hospital.  Leon lead you all out of the hospital and to a corviknight Taxi of course. Being outside again was refreshing but it being early February it was still fairly chilly outside. And you all piled in. Really it was all just a happy blur on the ride to the station. You sitting beside Leon with Silver still seated lazily in your arms, which the three guys seated across from you two chatting away excitedly at the prospect of heading home at last. And you couldn't blame them after all all of you were heading home. And it was a blur when you all got on that evening train and again sat down in those blue seats. Home. The word rang in your mind and it made you smile. You've never been so happy to hear those words before but now you had a reason to be happy. Because for once you were actually heading HOME.
-Short Time Skip-
Like before many days passed on the train and it wasn't boring. The three would busy up your time talking to you excitedly about Leon's match against Raihan, all the cool things Raihan did with them while under his care, and what happened after the battle between them and Externatus. And you listened eagerly. Ok. Maybe Raihan wasn't so bad with how well Leon trusted him to take care of the guys. And nights were spent well sleeping. More than once you'd wake up and find Leon passed out next to you with his hat over his face and his cape draped over Hop's sleeping form like a makeshift blanket. It was so sweet of him. But the train ride had to come to an end and yours did too. You all arrived at Wedgeherst Station on Valentine's Day no less really early in the morning. How did you know? Well you were asleep before being jostled away by Leon persistently shaking your shoulder until with a snort you woke up and turned your blurry vision to his smiling face as he greeted you.
"L-Leon? What-" You stifled a yawn.
"Sorry to wake you up," he apologized removing his hand from your shoulder smiling. "But we're nearly there."
You were about to tired ask what he meant when the conductor's voice came over the loud speaker ahead of you both. "ZZZTT. Attention Passengers!," the conductor announced over the speakers to anyone left on board. "We'll be arriving at Wedgeherst Station within ten minutes. That is all."
Your tired eyes looked up at the speakers before turning back to the window of the still dark night. The sun wasn't even up yet. OH! The morning train must be arriving to Wedgeherst Station. Already the other guys were already groggily getting up and looking around and gathering their things. Guess you should too. You slipped your pack over your shoulders and pulled a slipping Silver off the table and into your arms as he gave a groggy noise but didn't wake up to wait. And you didn't have to wait long. Just as the sun rise was coming over the horizon and the town appeared in the window. And you all stood up as the train slowed until with a metal screech it came to a complete halt in the station's doorway.
"Attention Passengers! We have now arrived in Postwick! The morning train leaving Wedgehurst Station will depart in fifthteen minutes! Please exit or enter the train within that time. That's all!"
The first ones to get off were the kiddos as they all literally ran to the exit Leon right behind them followed by you carrying Silver bringing up the rear. The air was still relatively chilly out including the station but you paid it no mind as you stepped off and was met with an even bigger surprise.
"MOM!" "MUM!" "GRAMPS! GRAN!"
You paused blinking as you stepped through the ticket gate to see the sights. It was...the guys' families! All of them! They were there! Mrs. G crying lightly and hugging the twins. Mrs. L doing the same with Leon and Hop but in a slightly bigger hug as their grandmother joined with Leon's grandfather proudly smiling and patting Leon's back as the Champion smiled embarrassed and there was-....You blinked wide eyed as you saw who was also there smiling at them all. Sonia and Ms. Magnolia! You smiled and walked on over towards her since they weren't in the middle of hugs like the rest.
"Sonia!," you greeted and it was like a switch had flicked on as practically everyone looked at you. You waved at Sonia who blinked towards your direction but smiled seeing you. "Hey! I haven't heard you in forever!" Well not since Len told you she was watching the guys for him! "Where were you?"
Sonia smiled her blue eyes towards you. "Y/n! Is that you? I thought you were..." Her smile dropped as her hand was held up towards you. "You were..unconscious in Wyndon Hospital. Are you alright? You had everyone worried sick."
You waved her off smiling. "I'm fine. I promise. The only thing I got was a giant headache but that's way gone too."
Sonia sighed placing a hand to her chest as everyone around you slowly let go of their hugs. "Well that's a relief. I thought we'd have to worry about something far more worse than just Eternatus on our hands but it seems you surprised us again."
You chuckled. "Yeah. But speaking of surprises I wasn't expecting to see you guys here!" You turned to Ms. Magnolia. "What are you guys doing here?"
"The same thing as everyone else here, Dear," Ms. Magnolia answered you gesturing her free hand around to the others. "To greet the Unbeatable Champion and the Heroes of Galar of course. This should make for an interesting Chapter in Sonia's book for certain."
You blinked back to Sonia. "Book?"
At the question the red head flushed shyly and brought a hand up to lay her face in it. "W-Well...yeah! I've been writing a book on my entire journey including all my findings! In fact I'm almost done with the last chapter! I was hoping to get everyone's accounts over lunch and permission to use you all in my book. But since you're here too I don't suppose I could ask you the same thing?"
A ...book? OH! That's right! During the game's end Sonia did end up writing a book on the entire event leading up to Eternatus and it's defeat. Guess this was still happening. You happily nodded. "Sure! I don't mind a bit."
She happily clasped her hands in front of her. "Wonderful! I can't wait to hear what everyone has to say!''
"That's all fine and dandy but I believe there is one thing I need to do." Ms. Magnolia turned and you blinked as she walked towards Leon who smiled at her stopping in front of him. "Sonia's told me everything that happened Young Leon." She smiled at him. "Congratulations, Champion. And to the heroes who saved Galar and possibly the whole world from a terrible fate. Here. I've got a little something for you as celebration." Reaching back into her coat, she pulled out what looked to be a small container that instantly caught Leon's attention. "Here. It is Valentine's Day after all. You children deserve some of my famous sugar cookie surprise brownies as reward."
"Professor Magnolia," Leon said taking the box happily. You guessed if he loved Sonia's curry a lot her grandmother's cookies must've been to die for. "Why you didn't have to come all this way and do that for us."
"After everything you all have achieved it's really the least I could do. The Wishing Stars that make dynamaxing possible are parts of Eternatus. And when Eternatus was awakened, dynamax energy flooded the entire region. Because of that dynamax pokemon were popping up all over the place causing trouble across all of Galar. But Hop and his friends came to our rescue." She smiled over to Hop and the twins who blinked and looked at one another. "The dynamax phenomenon has long been an important part of Galarian culture. I hope everyone will use the power of dynamaxing correctly in the days to come. So young ones. Please do what you believe is best. And congratulations to you of course, Leon, for winning another Champion Match and remaining the strongest trainer in Galar. You must've given poor Raihan a run for his money as they say."
Leon chuckled a little bit doing his habit of placing a hand on the back of his neck. "Gee. Thanks Professor."
"It's Valentine's Day already?"
Mrs. L finally had spoke up when she answered your question making most everyone look at her. "Yes! And you're all invited for lunch today! It's been too long since we all last saw one another and I think it's about time to catch up."
"That sounds like a great idea!," Sonia commented clapping her hands, "I can bring one of my curry dishes for everyone!"
"A lunch together on the holidays with the heroes of Galar? How could we refuse?," Mrs. G replied chuckling. "Don't worry about appetizers. I can bring over a few tossed salads if that helps."
"That'd help a lot. Thank you."
Ms. Magnolia shook her head. "I'm afraid I'll have to decline the generous offer. I still have final preparations to do back at the lab for Sonia, and I really must be going now." She turned back to Leon. "It was nice to see you all again Young leon. Keep up the fighting spirit."
"Wait, Granny! I'll walk back with you!"
You waved good bye as Ms. Magnolia turned and slowly started out of the building followed by Sonia who walked after her promising she'd see you all again at noon. Good. You could do with a nice family dinner even if it was more with friends than family.
"Poor Professor Magnolia," Mrs. G commented once the two were out of the building. "It seems she's quite bothered by the Chairman's..Uh..E-Ex chairman's actions since she helped carry out so much of the researching into Dynamaxing for him."
Oh. Well when put like that you guessed her feelings were understandable. "Never the less, everything's alright now and we have the children to thank for that." Mrs. L then looked back to you who blinked. "And I believe I also owe you a thank you for rescuing my Little Lee and making sure the other children were safe and sound."
You...blinked before immediately holding up your hands to her. "Oh! N-No! It's fine! I'm just glad everyone's ok! Really it's no big deal-"
She cut you off. "I'm well aware of how you feel. Leon made sure to tell me EVERYTHING that had happened over the phone so we wouldn't get worried. He's also told me about you having no where currently to stay." You blinked..before turning a raised brow to the Champion who cleared his throat and looked away from your face. "I suppose the least we could do for all your help is let you rent the basement room again until you can get back on your own two feet."
You blinked back to her in surprise. "Wait. Really!?"
She nodded. "Why not? You were a good tenant the last time you stayed with us, and I haven't really found anyone else to rent the room to. You also did save Leon from something terrible. It's the least I could do in return."
"I- Wow-...I mean..." You smiled thankful at her. "Thank you so much!"
She smiled at you. "It's no problem really. You can simply help by working around the house and the yard."
"Speaking of the yard, did you all rent out the fields yet?," Hop asked his mother and you looked at him.
"Renting fields?"
He nodded. "Mum owns some farmland she rents to the local farmers to grow stuff on or to just keep their giant herds of wooloo and dubwool in. It works out pretty well for everybody."
Ah. So THAT'S how Mrs. L made money being a stay at home mom all the time. You had just assumed Leon sent her money being rich and famous. Speaking of which she clapped her hands gaining everyone's attention. "That's enough of that now. It's chilly here. I say we all go home and warm up for the holiday lunch later today and have a nice hot breakfast."
Everyone agreed and headed towards the door. Leon following behind everyone but not before his grandpa pulled him to the side by putting an arm around his shoulders and leaning him over to whisper.
"She's a keeper, Lee. You take Grandpa's advice and settle down with this one," he said with a wink and nodding over to your retreating form.
In an instant, Leon's face went bright red. "G-GRANDPA!!"
You didn't hear the scuffle having gone out of the building but you all slowly walked your way down the street towards the houses until you all finally got to the split paths between the two houses. Bidding Mrs. G and the twins good bye for the moment as they all left to go settle back down into their own home while you followed Leon back to his home where Mrs. L offered you to just go and set your things back in your basement room. You did and came back up the stairs with Silver in tow now having been awakened and tailing you like a puppy but you didn't mind. You missed him following you around like that. You offered to help cook with Mrs. L and Leon's grandmother who were happy to accept your help as the boys caught up with their grandpa in the living room. It was still early in the morning but considering you all were cooking for about eleven people it understandably took a while. By the time noon DID role around people showed up. First was Sonia who knocked at the door, sadly Ms. Magnolia couldn't make it. Something about having to finish making arrangements to transfer the lab over to Sonia since she was retiring and Sonia was now promoted to the Postwick's Pokemon Professor. HEY! Good for her. Then came the twins and Mrs. G. The lunch wasn't anything too special. It was just like the other times you ate with them. laughing. Cracking jokes. Smiling. The guys happily told everyone aaallll about their experiences and what happened. With Sonia nodding as if taking notes. And you were happy to indulge her too as the hours ticked by and soon the light faded on Valentine's Day. The twins and their mother eventually bid everyone good night. Same with Sonia. You helped Mrs. L clean up after everyone before bidding everyone goodnight yourself and going down to your room- Or you would've if you weren't stopped by someone on your way down.
"Y-Y/N!"
You blinked up surprised to see Leon walking towards you holding a small container but smiled. "Hey, Lee. I thought you would've gone to bed by now."
He seemed to smile nervously and rub the back of his neck with a hand. A habit he did when feeling nervous or embarrassed, and coughed. "W-Well I was actually."
"Did..you get lost again?"
"Wha-...N-No, no, no, no!!" he held up a hand. "I d-didn't get lost this time!" Also panickily he thrusted out the container which you recognized as the container Ms. Magnolia gave him earlier today. "I-It's just that I d-don't really like t-these kind of cookies too well b-but I didn't want to be rude to Ms. Magnolia s-so I was just wondering if you wanted them and came down here to give them to you!" He forced out quickly face reddening.
Oh. So that's why he was here. With a bright smile you took the small cookie tin from him. "Thanks Lee! But are you sure? She did make these for you?"
"Y-Y-Yeah! I'm sure! It's no problem!" He gulped. "I-It's better t-to not let them go to waste! Y'know?"
You nodded. Yeah. It would be a waste of food if he just threw them out you supposed. "I see. Ok then! Thank you! I'm sure they'll be..*yyaaawwnn* -delicious." With a turn of your body you bid him good night. "But I think I'll hit the hay now. Good night. And Happy Valentine's Day!"
Leon only smiled widely with a nervous wave as you descended into the basement. "Y-Yeah. H-Happy Valentine's Day to you too."
Setting up your sleeping bag and getting in with Silver curling up next to you. You sighed. Falling asleep quickly as long last you felt at peace with yourself. Because for a once-
You felt at HOME.
-MARCH-
"Uh...What exactly is going on around here?"
It had been about a month since you arrived back in Postwick and already so many things had happened. Your Valentine's Day was great! And so was the rest of the week as the guys and Leon got to hang out with their families before he sadly had to once again take off for Wyndon again at the request of the new Chairman. Well he WAS still Champion after all. He still had a lot of responsibilities now that there was repairs going on. As for you, you got settled back into your basement room and had tried to once again (and succeeded in-) getting that job at Mr. Frederick's grocery store up the road a bit. And Mrs. L had instead started charging you a hundred dollars a month in rent instead of a hundred fifty. You suspected it was because of helping Leon but when you asked she claimed you were probably wanting to save money in order to move out once you figured out what you wanted to do again. Fair enough. If you were living in Galar now you'd need money to buy a house. The guys had been pretty chill. Usually going out to explore the fields or practice battle. Sonia had even published her book a week after you all arrived! Even making a free digital copy anyone could read on the web although you hadn't read it yet. Her publisher worked FAST! But that's not why you had woken up today. You had woken up to a whole bunch of commotion from downstairs and figured everyone was up, but when you came upstairs the strong scent of lemon and cleaning supplies hit your nose stronger than that roof piece did. And the sight of Hop wiping down one of the WALLS with a small rag certainly caught your tired brain off guard. Were you still dreaming???
"Oh uh. Good morning, Y/n!," the boy greeted your tired bed headed stare with an awkward smile. "Did I wake you up?"
"Kinda." You yawned reaching a hand up to rub your eyes. "What are you doing?"
"Oh! Spring cleaning! We do it every year once the weather's warm enough!"
"Spring cleaning?" He nodded. Oh. Makes sense. Lots of people did Spring Cleaning. You know you and your mom sure did.
"Yep! Once a year when it's Spring we clean the house literally top to bottom! But that's not the only reason why we're sprucing up the place!'' He turned back to the wall wiping it down with the biggest smile on his face. "I want everything to look it's best when Lee comes back this weekend!"
"...Say what now?"
"Lee called last night when you went to sleep! He's visiting us again this weekend and he's bringing a really special surprise for Glory! I dunno what it is yet but it's gotta be good! So today the house and then tomorrow the yard and shed! You wanna help?"
You shook your head no. "Sorry I can't. I have to work if I'm going to pay your mom that rent money for this month...But tell you what. Tell your mom to leave the basement and I'll clean that for you guys when I get back from work tonight. Ok?"
He beamed. "Yeah! That'd be a big help thanks!"
So Leon was coming that weekend huh? It'd be nice to see him again after so long. You just wondered what this 'surprise' was. Whelp you didn't have to wait long to find out that either because as he promised he showed up that weekend. The guys were pretty excited to see their big brother figure again and you'd be lying if you said you weren't excited to see him either. After all he was one of the few friends you had really. You kept your word of cleaning out the basement and downstairs bathroom for Mrs. L which she was grateful for but sadly weren't able to help much else due to your working. But it was alright. Mrs. G and the guys came over to help out and prepare things before Leon's big arrival that Saturday. And you were lucky enough to have the weekends off in order to see him. And then the day came. It was pretty early in the morning when someone bursts through the basement door startling you awake as Hop rushed down the stairs to wake you.
"Y/N!! WAKE UP WAKE UP!!"
"Huh?....What the-"
"LEON'S HERE!!", Hop excitedly called out for you from the basement stairs grinning like he had won a million dollars. "Everyone's here waiting for Mom to come back with him from the station! Come on before you miss him!"
You groaned. Oh. Right. It was THAT Saturday. "Alright. Alright. I'm up."
You groaned but did get up in order to go greet Leon. Whelp! You did want to see Leon again anyways. So you stumbled out of your sleeping back, slapped on come clothes that weren't PJs, and made yourself presentable in the bathroom before heading back up the stairs with Silver at your heels. But you were NOT prepared again for what you saw in the living room. Yes. Everyone was there. The guys, their moms, Leon's grandparents, and even Lee himself! But what you WEREN'T expecting was the extra person in the room. As soon as you had walked in someone had looked up from you at the couch and you paused seeing the much older man. And your eyes widened! NO. WAY. IT WAS KABU!! The older gym leader was sitting there in ordinary clothes right next to Leon and had looked up at you when you walked right in but paused in the doorway surprised. Kabu? Here? What in the world was one of the gym leader's doing here?
"Y/n!" You jumped when Leon smiled at you and gestured for you to come in as you stood there. "It's great to see you! Come in! You remember Kabu right?"
"Uh...Y-Yeah." You blinked before slowly walking in Silver at your heels. Still confused, you raised a hand and smiled at Kabu anyways. "Hey. Nice to see you again."
To your surprise instead of waving back the older man bowed to you. "It is an honor to meet our great champion's family and friends."
"Y-Yeah. Likewise. *ahem*....So what brings you to Postwick?"
"That's what this meeting here is all about." Leon looked back to Kabu who sat back up and looked to Gloria who you now realized was sitting across from him and Leon.
"Yes. You all must be very surprised someone like me decided to make the long journey here with Leon but rest assured that I had a purpose." His somber but calm expression met Gloria's. "You see there is a very good reason why I'm here. It is to see you." he then pointed a finger at Gloria.
Everyone looked surprised but more so Gloria who blinked and pointed at herself. "Ye came all the way from Motostoke jus' ta see ...me?" Kabu nodded but to her confusion. "But why?"
"A very good question to ask. And I have a very good answer. You see...I am in good shape for my age." ...You blinked raising a brow as he stated a ..true but very out of no where fact about him. "More than most people my age are, but as healthy as I may be it doesn't get rid of the fact that I am growing older. I have been the Fire Type Gym Leader for many years but it goes without saying I can't just keep that title forever. Like everyone there will be a time that I will decide or need to retire, but I can't as there's no one else to take over Motostoke's gym." ....He leaned forward making Gloria blink. "As with any Gym leader I study my opponents' moves, strategies, skill sets, and a slew of other variables in order to dictate their attacks. It's rare that I find a trainer who could not only beat me on her first try but in a way I wasn't expecting. Leon's judgement is something I respect highly and he wasn't wrong when he saw great potential in you Ms. Gloria."
The whole room fell silent for a moment as Gloria just..stared at him with the boys exchanging looks with each other before she spoke again. "Uh...W-Well thank ye. But what does that have ta do with anythin'?"
"It has to do with everything. Ms. Gloria if you're willing to accept my offer, and with your mother's permission of course." He nodded to Ms. G for a brief moment before turning back to her. "I would be honored to take you on and train you to become the new Fire Type Gym Leader of Motostoke."
Your. Jaw. DROPPED!! As did everyone else's besides Leon who smiled happily towards the shocked Gloria as she just sat there as kabu's words sank into everyone's heads. Kabu wanted to train HER!? As the new Fire Type Gym Leader for Motostoke!? THAT CERTAINLY WASN'T IN THE GAME!! After a moment of silence Gloria eventually sputtered out some noises that sounded like she was trying to talk gesturing her arms to him and around the room. Looking between him and Leon. Back and forth. Back and forth between the two league members before she finally let one word escape her mouth.
"WOT!?"
"Yes. Honestly with your skills and quick thinking I'm sure you'd make a great future gym leader. All you need is some guidance."
"I-I-I heard you b-b-but....WHY me!?" She gestured to herself again as if that was obvious. "I-I can't b-be a gym leader! I-I...I d-don't have the steel nerves it t-takes ta be one!"
"I thought you'd say that actually." She turned back to Leon who smiled warmly at her. "That's why I came up a plan that'd help you with your stage fright and anything else you might need improving on." With one hand Leon reached into his shirt's pocket and produced what looked like a tanish-golden colored train pass before holding it out to Gloria. "Here."
She blinked at it for a moment looking between Lee and the card before slowly taking it. "...What's this?"
"It's an exclusive Armor Pass."
"Armor Pass?," she asked him raising a brow.
He nodded with a hum. "Uh huh! With this you'll be able to directly go to the Isle of Armor station and catch one of their special taxi's to the island. That's where I trained when I first became Champion around your age. You see there's a very special dojo there with a very special teacher who specializes in training people into becoming better trainers. He's helped other people in the league before just like me. In fact he's pretty famous! You might even know about him. His name's Mustard."
You rose a brow. Mustard? That was the guy Leon mentioned to you before who trained him! But what kind of name was that?
"MUSTARD!?" You jumped hearing Hop shout eyes practically popping from his head with how wide they were in amazement. "As in like the old Champion who had the old title of Champion before he was defeated!? THAT MUSTARD!?"
"That's right. He's been running the dojo for years now and helps improve peoples' battling as well as themselves. I think it would be a great idea to have Gloria pay him a visit as I believe he'd be able to really help her come out of her shell. That is if she accepts Kabu's offer." He looked back to Gloria who still blinked at him. "You don't have to if you don't want to Gloria but know that you won't be in it alone."
"Yes. It's going to be hard work but that's what makes the end goal much more meaningful. But it depends on your answer."
Gloria blinked. Looked around the room at all of you. Looked at Leon. Looked at Kabu. Looked back down to the pass in her hands......Before smiling brightly like someone had just given her a brand new gym badge before looking back at Kabu! "YES!! O' course I accept ye offer! How can I not!? I just- Wow! THIS IS AMAZING!!"
A few smiles were shared even by the older man as Kabu bowed to her-
"Wait. When does she leave for the Isle of Armor?"
"Oh. Next Thursday. The train to the isle is already scheduled to arrive at noon then."
"NEXT THURSDAY!?" Everyone jumped as all of sudden Gloria shot up to her feet in panic. Hands grabbing her cheeks as a wave of fear washed over her all of a sudden. "T-THAT SOON!? I JUST- ....I NEED TA GO PACK!!" And with that she turned and fled. Silver having to literally jump out of the way as Gloria sped off out of Hop's out throwing the door open with a BANG behind her in her rush. Leaving everyone there sitting in silence...Until Mrs. G sighed.
The Isle of Armor?? Why did that sound familiar to you?...Oh well. You didn't pay it much mind but you were happy for Gloria to get such an unexpected surprise! Being trained by both a gym leader and a former champion sounds like a dream come true for someone like her. You didn't know all the details but Kabu talked for a while with Mrs. G getting Gloria's Mother's permission to train her before leaving back for Motostoke on the evening train. Leon himself left the very next day after carefully walking Gloria through everything including where she needed to go showing the place on her regional maps before leaving again. The life of the Champion must've been busy especially with fixing up after Mr. Rose. ...Huh. You wondered if they ever caught Oleana yet? Days passed and you kept going to and from work but you saw Gloria again when she and Mrs. G came into the store to purchase more traveling supplies for her trip to the Isle of Armor. There she gave you her finished Curry Dex book claiming she didn't want the prizes she would've gotten anyways since they were toys and she was too old for them. Fair enough. And apparently Leon left her a gift and note in his room upon leaving. She was happy to show off her new Charmander to you. AH! And THERE'S the final gifted pokemon of the game. You ended up just putting the curry dex book thing in your pack with your other belongings. Soon Thursday rolled around and Mr. Frederick was nice enough to let you have the day off so you could see Gloria off with the others that afternoon. You, Hop, Victor, and Mrs. G all traveled with her to the station. Gloria both giddy and nervous with a big old stuffed pack on her back. Mrs. G asking over and over again if Gloria remembered to pack everything she needed. First aid kit. Food. Clothes. A coat. Her sleeping bag. Etc. When you got to the train station Practically no one was there except for one or two other people and the station master behind the counter as usual. You did pause to look at the other two people who were dressed somewhat strangely and very colorfully waiting for the train as well. One had really BRIGHT pink hair and the other guy wore this gigantic top hat with pokeballs floating around it like some psychic pokemon. Wha- How was he doing that? Your attention was brought back to the present as the distant sounds of the evening train approaching caught everyone's attention.
"There's the train!," Mrs. G commented before grabbing Gloria by the shoulders with a look. "Are you sure you packed everything you needed?"
"Yes, Mum! For the millionth time I double checked this mornin'. I'll be fine travelin' there. Lee said he was gonna meet me at the taxi station anyways."
Mrs. G still didn't look so sure but Victor assured her. "Don't worry none, Mum. Glory's gonna be fine on her trip there."
Eventually she did sigh and remove her hands from Gloria. "You're right. I just can't help but be worried about her traveling by herself. You all are growing up too fast for my liking."
"She'll be fine!," Hop said smiling widely before looking to Gloria, "You're gonna do great Glory! I know you will! You're my rival after all so you have to do your best or else I'll become a better trainer than you."
Gloria smiled back at him. "Ha! We'll see 'bout that. OH! I almost forgot! I got something for ye!" She reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a pokeball, holding it up to the purple haired boy. "'Ere! I had a few extra o' these wee ones lying about an' I know they mean a lot ta people in a special way so I got ye one."
Hop slowly took the pokeball from her. "A pokemon? For me?"
She nodded. "But don't see what it is til ye get home. Ok?"
Hop again blinked but smiled widely. "Wow! This is amazing Glory! Thank you." he excited turned to Victor holding up the brand new pokeball. "Hey, Vick! Look what Glory gave me!"
"You gave Hop a pokemon?"
Gloria turned to you and nodded. "I gave all me rivals an extra pokemon I got from the rotomi boxes ta show there's nay hard feelings. After all you said I shouldn't cause any bad blood between me rivals."
You smiled. "Oh ..Wow, Gloria. That was really nice of you! What did you give them if you don't mind me asking?"
"Oh nothin' special really. I gave Marnie a wee purloin I found and I sent Bede a lovedisc before we went ta see you at the hospital."
You froze. .....And blinked. "Wait, wait, wait. You gave BEDE a what?!"
"This cute water pokemon I found called a lovedisc," she gushed obliviously. "It was jus' the cutest wee thing shaped like a sweet lil heart! I figured since Bede's always wearin' pink and he works with cute fairy type pokemon it'd be perfect! An' I gave Hop one of the extra pokeballs I had forgotten in me bag." She paused with a hum rubbing her chin. "I can't remember what pokemon it was but I'm sure Hop will love it all the same!"
You wanted to facepalm right then and there. Because as soon as the words 'I gave Bede a lovedisc' slipped out of her mouth so obliviously you knew she had once again blundered. And you had a good reason why. There was ONE specific pokemon Dex entry you specifically remembered about luvdisc-
"Its heart-shaped body makes it popular. In some places, you would give a Luvdisc to someone you love."
AND she gave one to Bede who she already flustered with accidentally making him think she was trying to gift him an applin. Great. You sighed but figured maybe Bede wouldn't know or he wouldn't think much of it since she also gifted Marnie a purrloin and Hop a....mystery pokemon you have yet to figure out. Here's hoping. The sounds of the train came further and further until with a high pitched screech it stopped right in front of you all and the station master announced it.
"The train to the Isle of Armor has arrived! Those with an Armor Pass please board the train! The train will departing in fifthteen minutes!"
"That's me cue!" Gloria said as the other two weirdly dressed people walked up to the station master. She turned back to all of you with a smile. "I guess this is good bye for now."
"Don't worry about us," you assured her smiling. "You're going to do great out there!"
"Yeah! Glory, you'll do great!" "It's gonna be great to have a Champion brother and Gym Leader Rival!" "I'll miss you, Sweetie."
Hugs were had all around and good bye's were exchanged before Gloria a little tearfully joined the other two weirdly dressed folks in line for the train as the station master checked their passes.
"Do you have an Armor Pass?"
"Naturally. I have made all the proper preparations which you can observe with unclouded eyes."
"Hee hee! Of course! I totally have one!"
"Then please allow me to check your passes."
You all watched as the weirdly dressed people handed their passes to the station master who proceeded to look over both behind the booth. Huh...Why did those two look familiar? Deja vu again. But you shrugged it off. Lots of different people in the pokemon world. They probably just reminded you of some you've seen before. After a moment the station master handed the two back their passes and they stepped out of the way for Gloria to walk up and also hand him her pass Leon gave her. It was also at that moment the doors to the train opened and something came walking out of it. You turned ..and blinked as a SLOWPOKE slowly crawled it's way out of the train's doorway and into the station. It's dopey grinning face smiling at nothing as it randomly crawled into the station. Wha- What was a slowpoke doing here? Silver noticed too and chirped at it curiously gaining it's attention...or more so the food Silver held that he had been snacking on. the slowpoke peeked it's interest at that and came towards Silver making him chirp in warning backing up behind your legs holding his precious food from it's reach.
"Aw. Hey little guy." You slowly kneeled down to the pokemon who tilted it's head curiously but otherwise none threateningly at you as you kneeled down catching everyone's attention. "Where did you come from?" Of course it didn't answer you but made a happy noise when you reached out to pet it's head. CUTE!
"Oh a slowpoke!" "Hmph. To meet a slowpoke. Such a thing is simply elegant."
You paid no mind to the other two adults but the station master peeked out of his booth to see the thing before giving a groan. "Uh oh. Looks like another one's gotten on the train and ridden over from the Isle of Armor. Hey you're all pokemon trainers right?" He asked you all. "If Slowpoke blocks the ticket gate, it'll cause trouble for other customers. Slowpoke are actually really heavy. So do you think you can catch it for me?"
"I think it's just hungry," you answered back noticing the way it kept staring at Silver's food as your brave guard dog cowered away from the dopey looking teddy bear thing.
"If that case I can lead it out of the station with this." You turned to Victor who reached inside of his pocket and pulled out what looked like those granola breakfast bars that no one really liked besides him. Carefully peeling off the wrapper he exposed the granola berry mix thing and went over to the slowpoke. It was pretty easy to catch his attention as it almost immediately turned it's head to him. "C'mon boy! Ye want it? Come get it." And like magic the pokemon turned and slowly began following Victor as he made his way to back out of the station. The slowpoke slowly but surely following behind.
The station master sighed. "Thanks much! Slowpoke can be a big trouble to move sometimes." And he went back to finish giving Gloria her pass as Victor continued to lead the pokemon out of the station.
"Hmmm? How interesting. I must say your catching style is quite simply elegant." "Whoa amazing! The way you're catching that slowpoke is the absolute coolest!"
Victor chuckled nervously as he continued leaving. "Are you guys getting on the train too?"
They both turned to Gloria and the pink haired lady nodded. "I'm heading to a place called the Isle of Armor! I'm gonna catch some rare pokemon and do some training!"
The blonde haired man nodded. Again HOW were those pokeballs floating around his hat?? "I've heard it's a place where one can catch rare pokemon and do lots of training."
Before Gloria could say anything else the station master turned back to the three of them. "We apologize for the wait. We have checked your Armor pass. All aboard the train to the Isle of Armor! Mind your step when boarding. Please be aware there will also be a connection along the way."
"Okaaay!" "Understood."
The pink haired lady turned back to Gloria. "Let's hang if we meet up again, 'K? Bye bye then! See ya!"
The taller blonde man reached up to tip his hat slightly to Gloria. "Yes. Perhaps we shall meet again sometime. Well then please excuse me."
And both turned to board the train. You all watched them go before Hop hummed. "I could be wrong..But that lady looked familiar."
"You too huh?" Hop nodded and you hummed. Ok. That was strange. Hop seemed to kinda recognize them too so it's more than a deja vu affect. ...Well considering those two were in Wedgeherst Station that means they must've been from Postwick too right? You must've seen them around before and not paid them much attention beforehand. Yeah. That must've been it.
The station master ended up giving Gloria her pass and she quickly boarded the train but she paused and looked behind her at you all....Smiling sadly and waved. You all waved back to her smiling and in Mrs. G's case crying lightly until the doors closed and the train moved. And she was off. You were certainly going to miss having her around but Leon promised to call you all and let you know when he and Gloria met up at the taxi station. And you weren't going to stop her from going on this amazing chance to be trained by strong people. Although you still felt deja vu from all this for some reason. Oh well. When you all eventually started making your way back out from the station, you ended up running back into Victor who managed to catch the slowpoke. Good for him. Hop and him talked for a moment mentioning Gloria leaving Victor her...Sword?? You were confused but paid it no mind on your way back home. Hop was curious to see what kind of pokemon Gloria had given him and you were also curious. She said she left him a pokeball she had forgotten was in her backpack, but exactly what kind of pokemon was that? Once you all got home Hop couldn't wait anymore and threw the pokeball then and there in the hallway. And what popped OUT of it shocked you all. In a bright light out popped an....Apple? With..eyes? You were extremely confused at first seeing it because what WAS that thing? However the shocked gasped and almost worrying expression that came over Hop's face made you look to him.
"Hop? What's the matter? Are you ok?"
"I-...She just-...That's a-.." He stammered and sputtered looking between you and the pokemon that blinked around the place curiously. Before Hop finally looked to you shocked and pointed at the pokemon. "THAT'S AN APPLIN!!"
AN APPLIN!? Your eyes widened as you suddenly looked back to the pokemon. THAT was an APPLIN!? Why in the world would Gloria give Hop an applin of all pokemon!? Isn't an applin supposed to be the symbolic pokemon of love in Galar or something!? Wait. Didn't she say she had forgotten what kind of pokemon was left in her bag?? WHERE DID SHE EVEN GET AN APPLIN IN THE FIRST PLACE LET ALONE FORGET SHE JUST HAD ONE-....You paused. The distant memory of you guys back in Hammerlocke came to mind. The day that Gloria helped that kid with his crush who moved away. The day Bede mistook her trying to give HIM that applin. THAT applin. ...THIS APPLIN!! The same applin she slipped into her backpack claiming she'd figure out what to do with it later but you both had forgotten it was even there this ENTIRE time! And now Gloria had mistakenly given it to Hop forgetting what it was and just as a platonic gift between friends. .....OH NO!!
"W-WHY WOULD GLORY GIVE ME AN APPLIN!?...Unless..." Hop paused. His golden eyes widening before slowly looking back towards the pokemon. "Unless she's trying to tell me that she..." In an instant his face lit up brighter than a firework on the fourth of July.
"Actually this might've been an accident on her part."
He looked to you. "H-HOW CAN THIS BE A MISTAKE!?"
...How were you going to explain this when he hated Bede? "Well-....Uuuhhhh...I-..."
"T-This is really unexpected!" Hop muttered to himself reaching his hand up to rub his chin in thought. "I-I mean I know w-we're close but I never expected...THIS!!"......He suddenly smiled before narrowing his eyes. "HA!! Well then this just makes things all the better! In that Mareep Head's face! I can't wait to see his reaction when he knows not only am I Gloria's one true rival but the one true person she'll ever show affection to as well!!"
...A slap sounded out as you utterly AND literally facepalmed.
-APRIL-
You had..tried to explain to Hop what happened but gave up half way through and decided to let Gloria handle it whenever she saw him again. She'd probably be able to make him listen to her if she explained it to him anyways. The last two to three weeks of March went off without much excitement other than Hop receiving a book in the mail and Sonia completely taking over the lab for the now retired Professor Magnolia. But over all the days went by the same. You went to work, paid rent, help Mrs. L around the house, and Hop and Victor would go off and go off to try to catch pokemon or hang out. Sometimes Victor would even show you the pictures he shot with the new camera Leon gave him for Christmas last year. Until one day at least. You had woken up around eight o'clock in the morning and got up and went upstairs to go out the door to head to work with Silver at your heels, but when you were about to exit the house you were stopped by Mrs. L.
"Y/n!" You had paused in the doorway door open about to step out when you looked over and saw a slightly worried expression on the older woman's face as she walked out from the kitchen towards you.
"Hey. What's up?," you asked turning to her as she stopped in front of you.
"Have you seen Hop today? He wasn't in his room this morning when I went to go wake him up for breakfast. Do you know where he went?"
You blinked. Hop was gone? You shook your head. "No I haven't. I just woke up a bit ago myself. But I'm sure he's just probably out with Victor again. Did you ask his mom?"
Mrs. L shook her head. "No. ...But you have a good point. I'll go ask her when I get a chance later."
"Ok. If I see him in town I'll tell him to call you or something. But don't worry. I'm sure he's fine."
And you were sure he was since you didn't have any bad feelings about this. Mrs. L agreed with you before you were able to leave and head back into town where you met up with Mr. Frederick. The day was nothing special. He had you clean out a mini freezer and stack a few new cans on a shelf, but that was about it as he handled the register. You didn't see any signs of Hop or Victor while you were working and you didn't see any signs of Mrs. L coming worriedly into town looking for him so you assumed everything was well. It wasn't until around noon that something did happen. You were in the middle of sweeping up the floor when Mr. Frederick called you over. He had just received a call on the phone near the cash register and had gotten off of it before calling you over.
"Miss Y/n?"
You looked up from your sweeping as Silver sat boredly by and over to the older man behind the cash register. "Yes?"
"I had just received a call that a package had just arrived for me down at the station," he explained with a smile, "I don't suppose you could run down over there and pick it up for me? The Station master should know I'm sending someone to pick it up."
You smiled at him widely. "Sure! I'd love too. It shouldn't take too long."
"Thank you kindly. Hurry back now."
Leaving the broom leaning against the wall you slowly made your way out the door and down to Wedgeherst Station with Silver in tow which you didn't mind. It probably beat him staying there bored out of his mind. You smiled humming to yourself enjoying the warm weather in the new spring air. Pretty flowers and grass everywhere. The Postwick country side was beautiful! It beat the crowded Wyndon in your eyes. Plus who knows? You might see some cool wild pokemon. Soon you reached the station and noticed the train in the station. Oh. It must've just arrived you thought. You went right up to the station master and asked with a smile.
"Hi! Mr. Frederick sent me to pick up a package for him."
The man on the other side smiled. "Oh of course! He said he'd send someone over the phone. Just one moment."
The man reached onto the floor beneath him and soon you were given a decently heavy box about the size of Silver. Not heavy enough where you couldn't carry it but def enough to where you would HAVE to use both hands to carry and it would slow your movements. With it securely in your arms you turned and like a cliche movie accidentally bumped into someone. You yelped as the bump made the weight of the box accidentally shift and you dangerously tilted to the right. In a blur of blue, someone's arms shot out and grabbed the box before you could fall over thankfully making you still stand.....You sighed and pulled up on the box along with the blue sleeved hands helping you safely shift the box back in a safer hold. Sighing in relief you turned to the owner of the hands as they let go of the box.
"Pardon me my dear lady." .....You blinked. WHAT THE HECK- A man with blue eyes and pal tanish-blonde hair in a blue suit smiled at you. "That was rather rude of me to bump into you like that. My apologies.~"
"Uh..." Oooook. Well there WOULDN'T be anything wrong with the guy really. If his hair wasn't styled in a weird do....That looked like a LITERAL sword! You stared at him for what was probably considered rude before turning to the guy right next to him who looked the same except he wore a red suit instead of a blue one and his hair was styled up in what looked like a shield!! WHAT-..You stared at their weird hairdos for a little longer before eventually snapping out of it and clearing your throat. "Uh. I-It's fine. My bad. Thanks for the help though."
"Brother." The sword-hair guy turned to the shield-haired one. "We should get on the train. Now."
The blue suited man nodded before turning back to you. "Please excuse me." And both scrambled around you and through the ticket gate. Into the train they went all of a sudden like you the time that onix chased you.
You just watched as they both disappeared. You also thought you saw the red suited guy holding something but you couldn't be too sure since they left so quickly and you were more focused on their weird hair. "What the world was that all about?"
"HEY!! COME BACK HERE THIEVES!!"
Hey! You knew that voice! Your head snapped up just in time to see HOP of all people come running through the station just as the announcer called out that the train was about to leave. "HOP!?" You called out to him but for whatever reason he didn't even look at you. He shoved some kind of card into the ticket gate before he too entered the train- "HOP!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? GET OFF THAT TRAIN!!" He didn't listen. His form disappeared into the train as well and before you could even move the train took off! "HOP!!" You yelled running up to the ticket gate and stopping still calling out even though it did absolutely nothing. "HOP COME BACK!!"
It was no use. The train ran and ran until the last freight car completely left the station. You stood there SPEECHLESS for a good few moment because...WHAT JUST HAPPENED!? Did Hop really just- ...What did he just DO!? You stood there continuing to stare for a long time before one thought crossed your mind. YOU HAD TO TELL MRS. L!! Sharply turning you clutched the package to you and ran from the building, Silver giving a noise and running off after you. As fast as you could you ran all the way back to the store. Startling Mr. Frederick at seeing your panting self. Delivering the package and briefly explaining that there was a family emergency before again leaving. Running down the path way back down towards Mrs. L's house. And it was with this running that you happened to bump into another person you knew. VICTOR! He just ran out in front of you away from where Sonia's lab was located not paying you any attention as you skidded to a halt.
"VICTOR!?"
The boy skidded to a stop before whirling around at you running towards him and he blinked wide eyed. "Y/N!! WHERE'S HOP!? HE WASN'T AT SONIA'S LAB!"
You also skidded to a stop in front of his panicked face breathing raggedly. "YEAH I SAW HIM!" You pointed back up towards the train station. "HE JUST HOPED ON THE TRAIN CHASING AFTER SOMEONE!!"
"W H A T!?" Victor screeched hands flying up to grab at his beanie. "YOU MEAN HE'S G O N E!?"
"Flew outta here like a zubat outta heck!"
" Victor WHAT is going on!?"
"I-...I-I don't know!" He gestured around in a panic. "We went ta put back the blasted sword n' shield they used to destroy Eternatus but then these two weird blokes with giant hair came outta now where and managed ta make off with the bloody shield!"
"WHAT!?" The sword and shield they used to destroy Eternatus!? And the shield had been STOLEN by- You paused...Wait. Big hair- YOU SAW THOSE TWO AT THE STATION!! That means the thing that red suited was carrying must've been the ancient shield the guys used in game to destroy Eternatus! But why in the world would they take it!?
Victor nodded. "W-We thought he'd be at the lab but he nay was an' then Sonia's dynamax detector whatchamacallit picked up some weird spike in Turrfield! And....A-AN I DON' KNOW WHAT TA DO!?"
"Then that's where they're heading!"
"How do you know!?"
"Call it a hunch." You grabbed him by the shoulders. "Listen to me. Everything's gonna be fine. Ok? I won't you to go back home and pack what you need to go! We're heading for Turrfield on the next train! Meet me by the store so we can get supplies ok!?"
Still shaken up and panicked Victor managed to nod to you and you both ran back towards the houses. You HAD to tell Mrs. L and tell her to call Leon! You didn't know what was going on but this was NO coincidence. But upon arriving at the house you discovered no one there but Hop's grandparents. When you asked panicked where his mother was they answered she was currently out. Something about a problem with the fencing in one of her fields and a famer and she possibly wouldn't be back for HOURS. You gritted your teeth but there was no time to argue. Instead you raced to the basement and in a haste packed up EVERYTHING of yours into your bag as fast as you could. Slapping your sleeping bag on top and strapping it in before racing back towards the stairs to meet the concerned grandparents. You couldn't explain now but you DID tell them that you were going after Hop to Turrfield and to tell his mom and Leon as fast as they could. They were shocked and you would've loved to explain to them more about what was going on but you didn't have time to explain everything. Instead you ran out of the house and down the path. Running into Victor again as he was already running up the road ahead of you with his giant pack heading towards your meeting place the store. Good! With Silver at your heels and your lungs heaving you ran all the way back to the store to meet an anxious Victor already waiting there.
"WELL!?"
"She wasn't home! But don't worry I made sure she'd know!,'' you reassured him seeing the panicked look on his face. "We just need to get supplies and get on the next train out of here after him!"
"T-That w-would be the new evenin' train at five thirty!"
"There's an evening train now?" He nodded. "Good! That just means well catch up to him faster." You grabbed his arm pulling him into the store. "Come on. We need supplies before we go."
It was almost like when these guys took off from Wyndon all over again only this time it was one guy chasing down thieves you had to worry about and he was all alone without anyone to help him if he got in trouble. You explained rather hastily and apologized to Mr. Frederick that you probably not be coming back and were leaving on such short notice as you both bought a lot of supplies Victor just SHOVING them in his bag before you two scurried away back down to the station and just....sat there and waited. It was the only thing you could do for the entire five and a half hours it would take for the evening train to arrive. In between that time you tried your best to comfort an anxious and blubbering Victor as he stammered and explained to you everything that happened in the Slumbering Weald. Them putting the items back to running into Sonia to them appearing claiming to be the 'King of Galar' and then Hop running off after the two before he could stop him. You tried to calm him down while trying to keep yourself calm. You didn't know much about what was going on but either way you were going to find out! After feeling like an eternity just WAITING there the train you both were waiting for arrived. Not wasting any time you two scrambled to it squeezing past the gate and falling into the train. Bolting for the nearest blue seats as if THAT would make the train go faster. What felt like another eternity was actually five minutes when the train finally started off and you looked out the window. Catching your reflection staring back in the light of the setting sun before sighing.
You could never really catch a break for long around here could you?

A Champion Time For The Heart Ch30 The Calm Before The Next Storm
-FEBRUARY-
You were stunned.
You could never really catch a break for long around here could you?

its such a snippy thing to do. to give himself his heartbeat back, relinquishing 'superpowers' 117 gave him, trade them for mortality and 'being "normal"' again, only for pilot to take notice right away and sacrifice himself instead of snippy dying again.
like i think a good chunk of people irl would do the same regarding being human vs being dead, and its not snippys fault pilot decided to redirect the beam to save his ass (he doesnt even know he got his ass saved by him, again, actually) but it's genuinely such a snippy thing to happen, always some sort of bullshit tragedy (of sometimes consequences of his own actions) going on. relentlessly bullied by the narrative. guy cannot catch a break and if he does? others dont
and as SOON as he retaliates against the attack on pilot he looses 117 just as fast. zero resources and tied to a cross until captain inevitably gets his princess ass out of trouble again
also i might as well make this one big nonsensical post (as i tend to do) but if this had happen close to the end of the story, with whatever the fuck happens in that precious moon, then id be fine with it*. very heroic and altruistic finish, though snippy would probably have to do smth more extra than just resign himself to cruxifiction after loosing 117. 'no... it can't end here!! *uncruxifies himself while thinking of men*' idfk dont take this too seriously but like even now hes suspiciously way too chill like... your whole team just scattered. one of them will be fine (always is). then one got forcefully removed, the other is COMATOSE, AND YOU JUST SAW THE LAST ONE HAVE HIS ENTIRE TORSO EXPLODED BY AN ION BEAM. goddamn! i know your opinion of him, that he has crazy endurance and strength and seems to have survived so far, but you cant delude yourself into thinking he would be fine after That. anyway back to the point i started the paragraph with: doing pilot such a big bang temporary exit RIGHT NOW only to come back later for his final final exit being "gets locked in some sort of room to help the others" is still so so bad. you cannot kill pilot in a way that matters because you already used up all the epic ones
*im more or less aware that this particular pilot death was the one that irked people the most (including me, the clueless) but i do think what comes after is worse. this is how pilot dying now can still win and I'm not gonna funnyman it: 1 his head and current self are still alive, 2 annet seems to always work even after numerous shutdown attempts both pre and post apocalypse, meaning most of his old self is stored in a cloud. these are all elements that work together for his final room fate but how about.... he doesn't get stuck there because hes far more useful to the plot as the muscle and also he should be allowed to keep doing his silly cartwheels and ninja moves. im sure theres more than enough scrap on the moon to bullshit a new body if needs be but man come on. does this make any sense or am i just being overpowered by favoritest character sentiment again

♡ LOVES phone calls. yes he still hates talking. but the way his face looks when he listens to your voice. eyes half-lidded, shamelessly smiling - it’s so tender and so lovesick.
♡ terrible first grader hand-writing. he tries to write them for you in the beginning of your relationship (to be romantic or some shit) but they’re so incomprehensible pls. if he focuses on it - it can be legible but most of the time ... yea no.
♡ doesn’t favor tea or coffee but prefers tea if he has to drink one.
♡ crazy good at eyeballing measurement. even in baking. once made a perfectly good bread without weighing anything and doesn’t get why that’s so wild.
♡ has the phone on his text set to be bigger even though his eyes are fine.
♡ lets you do the layout thing on his iphone and decorate as you please. says he doesn’t care but when he sees you made it hero themed/fit with his aesthetic - he got so red it was so cute.

♡ hamsters adore this man. they just do.
♡ draws frowny faces on your eggs with hot-sauce
♡ soul leaves his body when you play with his hair and scratch his scalp. the tension in his neck literally disappears and he just sighs that shit relaxes him like crazy

[ID: A page from Devil’s Reign. Mike Murdock and Butch are standing and talking alone in a large office. Mike is wearing a white suit jacket and pants over a blue collared shirt. He is slightly unshaven. Butch is wearing a navy blue jacket over a black shirt, and grey pants. The room has wall-sized windows covered by shades, and there is a large horse painting on the right adjoining wall. In front of the shaded windows, there is a desk surrounded by several large chairs.]  Mike: “Are you planning to hit the $#@% mayor?” Butch: “Our revenues have dropped eighty percent since he sent those damn cop drones out. So, yeah. I guess so.” Mike: “You-- you-- It wasn’t supposed to be like this, Butch! We were supposed to be different! Bloodless! I know your dad pissed you off, but--” Butch: “This isn’t personal, Mike. There’s too much riding on my actions now that I’m the Kingpin. Us keeping our hands clean? That was a fairy tale. You don’t want to be a part of this? Fine.” Mike: “What if I... What if I had a way to set things right?” Butch: “What are you talking about?” Mike: “I...#$@%, man...I don’t even know how to say this... I’m not real. I... It’s a long story, but I have...I have a stone. Some kind of magic...” Butch: “What the #$@% are you on about? ‘Not real’? A ‘magic stone’?” Mike: “It-It’s called the Norn Stone. I hid it in my brother’s place! It still has some power to it, and I’ve been sitting on it, like an insurance policy! But it’s tricky. We’ll need, like, a manual or something. Maybe I can figure out how to use it to--” Butch: “$#@%, Mike! This is the exact #$@% I’m angry at my dad about! All this super hero nonsense! I’m not gonna fly around with some magic stone wearing a damn costume or whatever!”  Butch: “You never took this seriously. You never take anything seriously! I’m gonna go run a $#@% business. Go play with your stones.” [ID: Butch walks away from Mike, into the shadows.] Mike: “But, Butch, I-- I can save you. I know I can...” Devil’s Reign #5 by Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto, Marcio Menyz, and Clayton Cowles
It’s been a long wait, but we are finally getting some answers. This scene is a very big deal. Let’s talk about it.
Before we start, I just want to point out: Mike had a user’s manual for the Norn Stone. He paid Felicia Hardy a whole lot of money to steal it for him. What happened to it? Did he lose it?! This is why you can’t have nice things, Mike!
This conversation is the culmination (or at least, a culmination. This creative team isn’t finished yet) of the relationship between Mike and his childhood best friend/partner-in-crime that Zdarsky has been building ever since Mike made himself real in the volume 6 Annual. It has been a subtle narrative arc, not as central to the plot or well-developed as I, a Mike fan, would have preferred, but it is there and it is important, because it’s Mike’s first bit of character development as a real person. Over the past year-and-a-half, Mike has essentially undergone a loss of innocence; his glee at teaming up with his buddy to take on the Kingpin has morphed into fear as the situation has become more and more serious and the stakes have grown higher and higher. While Mike has tried to play it cool to hide from Butch how freaked out he is, the tension is there, straining their friendship and turning Butch from an ally into a potential threat. With each moral line that is crossed, Mike realizes that he has no idea how far his best friend is actually willing to go to gain power, or who he might hurt to hold on to it.

[ID: Excerpt from Daredevil volume 6. Hammerhead is lying in the street, holding a hand to his right eye, which is bleeding. Butch, seen from the back, is standing over him, one hand dripping with blood. From around a corner, Mike is watching in horror, his sunglasses propped up on his head.] Hammerhead: “Ahhh!! My eye! You $#@%!” Butch: “I’m here to win. So you’d best get in line.” Daredevil vol. 6 #32 by Chip Zdarsky, Mike Hawthorne, Adriano Di Benedetto, Marcio Menyz, and Clayton Cowles
Tumblr media
[ID: Excerpt from Daredevil volume 6. Mike and Butch are sitting huddled together on the couches in Matt’s dimly-lit apartment.] Mike: “But it’ll be okay, I promise!” Butch: “We have zero leverage for a bloodless coup, Mike. Something has to be done. And soon.” Mike: “Butch...I don’t like the look in your eyes. We made a pact, man! Remember? Nobody gets--” [ID: They stand. Butch walks away from Mike, down the stairs.] Mike: “Butch! Dammit, Butch! You stupid lunk! Don’t do it--” Daredevil vol. 6 #36 by Chip Zdarsky, Manuel Garcia, Cam Smith, Scott Hanna, Victor Nava, Marcio Menyz, Bryan Valenza, and Clayton Cowles
This adds a dangerous edge to every scene in which Mike pushes back-- including the one above. Would Butch hurt Mike? We don’t know him that well. We haven’t seen his limits yet-- and neither, clearly, has Mike. It also tells us quite a bit about Mike, whose Real Boy personality we are still in the process of discovering. In vol. 6 #29, he casually reminds Butch that the two of them “have been charming gangsters since we were kids” and I’m sure it’s true, especially after seeing their past antics in the Annual. However, it is also clear that as much as Mike enjoys playing at being a mobster and loves the idea of seizing real power within the criminal underworld, he is naive, much less of a hardened criminal than his friend. This is not his world anymore, and he has fallen in way over his head.
An aversion to violence is a little surprising from the guy who beat Overdrive unconscious and shot out Bushwhacker’s kneecaps in volume 5. This might suggest a slight disconnect between Soule and Zdarsky’s takes on the character, but I also think Mike (like his brother!) is drawing a hard line between violence and murder. When he says their coup was supposed to be “bloodless,” he means they weren’t supposed to kill anybody. (This distinction may or may not prove to be important to the overall development of Mike’s character, but it’s worth noting. I don’t want anyone to think I’m suggesting that Mike can’t handle a little blood.) Where it does matter is in how Mike is classified in the context of the story. For his whole existence, he has danced on the edge of becoming a villain without ever actually crossing that line. He has avoided that label thanks in large part to one vital factor-- a factor that was key in the huge success of his introductory arc, and which Zdarsky has managed to preserve despite a complete shift in circumstances: the idea of Mike as somewhat of a hapless victim.
In Soule’s run, from the moment Mike poofed into existence, he was in danger. He was kidnapped, threatened, had his whole worldview ripped apart, and when he fought back, it was almost always in self-defense. “Fragment” Mike was a random blip in the universe thrust into a chaotic, dangerous world, trying to keep enough of a handle on what was going on to just stay alive, and his perspective was always prioritized, sometimes even over Matt’s. It was a suspenseful read, and made Mike an intensely sympathetic character. Now, in volume 6, he has finally seized control. He has twisted the very fabric of reality in order to make himself real and remove the danger of being "unwritten”. His life is his, and he has real, genuine friends and family supporting him (or at least, a friend. Matt hasn’t been much of a brother to him in this run). He has a plan. He has a purpose! And nevertheless, he finds himself once again barely keeping his feet under him as a situation he thought he understood gets more and more dangerous. The poor guy cannot catch a break. Even though it’s his own fault this time-- he got himself into this mess-- Mike’s obvious discomfort, and the threat of danger always hanging around him, keeps him at least a little sympathetic at all times.
I also want to point out Mike’s little “I can save you. I know I can” in the last panel. That whispered line carries a lot of weight. It drives home the fact that this is about more than just who Butch may or may not be murdering, or Mike’s own safety while caught in the middle of escalating gang politics. Mike cares about his friend, and is willing to go to reckless lengths to save him from what he is becoming. The sidelining of this plot thread resulted in a lack of development of Mike and Butch’s relationship, meaning that their scattered interactions are not nearly as emotionally resonant as they should be, but we at least know from the Annual that they have been close friends since childhood, and that this partnership is just the latest, most ambitious of many such schemes the two have engineered over the years.
Tumblr media
[ID: Excerpt from the Daredevil volume 6 Annual. Mike (wearing a semi-buttoned blue collared shirt and brown fedora) is running a shell game outside the Central Park fence. He has a brown box with “shell” written on the front, with three red cups upside-down on top of it. Butch is kneeling down to study the cups as an old woman watches.] Mike: “Mike Murdock’s the name...and finding the ball is the game! All right, kid. Pick the shell and if the ball is there, I’ll double your money!” Butch: “Oh, wow! Uh...okay...that one.” [ID: Butch points to a cup. Mike lifts it to reveal a ball underneath.] Mike: “Voila! Another winner! Madam, perhaps you’d like to place a small wager?” Woman: “I...oh, why not?” [ID: She pulls a bill out of her purse as Mike shuffles the cups around.] Mike: “Excellent decision, madam! Now, the easy part! Which shell is the lucrative ball under?” Daredevil vol. 6 Annual #1 by Chip Zdarsky, Manuel Garcia, Le Beau Underwood, Chris Mooneyham, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Clayton Cowles
When Mike becomes real, the first (and seemingly only) person he reaches out to is Butch. Before murder becomes a topic of contention, their comfort in each other’s company is obvious. The creative team might even be using character design to do some of the extra work of establishing their friendship, because by giving Mike a stocky, brown-haired best friend, they have made it very easy to equate this duo with Matt and Foggy. Though the strength of Mike and Butch’s relationship has been neglected on the page, we can look at the decades of bonding between Matt and Foggy and assume a parallel closeness. The above scene from Devil’s Reign #5 might be Mike’s version of Foggy scaling the wall of the Shadowland fortress. He is willing to bare the deepest, rawest depths of his semi-real-boy soul and use a dangerous magical artifact to screw with reality-- not for himself this time, but to save someone he loves.
...Which brings us to the most important panel on this page.
Tumblr media
[ID: One panel from that first Devil’s Reign scene, showing Mike from the shoulders up. He looks very solemn.] Mike: “I’m not real. I... It’s a long story, but I have...I have a stone. Some kind of magic...”
After a year-and-a-half of wondering, we finally have an answer: Mike remembers everything. And I am RELIEVED.
My favorite version of Real Boy Mike was when he was a “fragment”-- real, but only to himself, out of sync with a world and a history in which he did not actually exist, in which no one he knew knew him, holding within his spotty memories an alternate version of Daredevil continuity. That Mike was fascinating. When he stole the Norn Stone and changed reality to correct this displacement, he did not make himself less of an interesting character, because it still offered a chance to see a brand new player in the Daredevil world, and to catch a glimpse of that alternate continuity. But a Mike who at least remembered that previous unrealness and the incredible thing he’d done to fix it was a bit more interesting to me than one who didn’t. Mike Murdock, Matt’s wackiest alter ego brought to life, should not entirely fit into the world-- even if everyone now thinks he does. And so I freaked out when I read this page because it’s nice to have this detail confirmed.
This bombshell is huge for Mike’s journey, and provides us a much-needed glimpse into his psyche within this new reality. While the news that he still remembers his pre-Annual existence is great for me, because it preserves that fascination that made him such an enthralling character in the first place, it is tragic when you think about it from Mike’s perspective.
In Mike’s introductory arc, a baffled Matt took him to a telepath to try and figure out what he was and where he had come from. This is what he learned:
Tumblr media
[ID: Excerpt from Daredevil volume 5. The Inhuman Sterilon (a short guy dressed in a green uniform, with a giant oblong head set and a big grey mustache) is talking to Daredevil against a grey background. Mike, wearing a blue collared shirt, is unconscious on the ground in front of them.] Sterilon: “This man truly believes he is Michael Murdock, son of Jack and Margaret, brother to Matthew. What exists of his psyche is there, is solid, true, as far as he knows. But there are many holes. He is like a building full of empty rooms. Beautiful and strong from the outside, but inside...open spaces. I don’t know what he is. I have left him asleep. Do with him as you wish.” Daredevil vol. 5 #607 by Charles Soule, Phil Noto, and Clayton Cowles
There is no indication in this first story arc to suggest that Mike is aware of these gaps in his memories. He is astonished and horrified to find out that he isn’t real, suggesting that this construction is convincing to him-- or maybe that he was simply too new at that point to have done enough mental digging to notice anything wrong.
But in the volume 6 Annual, Zdarsky leans into the darkness inherent in this concept by making it clear that Mike does notice the gaps and flaws in his memories. This creative team’s Mike is broken, desperate, struggling to cope with the ephemeral nature of his existence. How does a person live with the knowledge that everything they know is wrong, that they are alone in a world in which they are not supposed to exist, that they can’t even trust the contents of their own mind?
Tumblr media
[ID: Three panels from the Daredevil volume 6 Annual. Mike is standing on a rooftop (other buildings and water towers are visible behind him). He is wearing a drab black jacket and sunglasses, and holding a brown book. Black Cat is standing a few feet from him, in the foreground, looking at him.] Mike: “I’m not him. I’m his brother. A brother he made up. He pretended to be his own twin. No judgement. Guy is pretty uptight, I can see why he’d want to do that. But then some guy...one of those power guys you run with...messed up and made me. Can you believe it? Out of thin air. I’m Matt Murdock’s twin brother, but...but I’m not. I’ve got some fake memories. I’m like a shell of a thing...but inside...I can tell I didn’t live through anything...and I think...” [ID: A close-up of Mike’s face as he pinches the bridge of his nose.] Mike: “...I think it’s driving me crazy.” Daredevil vol. 6 Annual #1 by Chip Zdarsky, Manuel Garcia, Le Beau Underwood, Chris Mooneyham, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Clayton Cowles
Mike’s antidote to this painful half-existence is suitably brash and gutsy for a Mike Murdock plan: to use a cosmic power he doesn’t understand to rewrite history and make himself real. And it works. Mike’s memories become solid and whole, and he gains the family and friends he only thought he had before. There is security in this change. His jerk brother isn’t likely to try and delete him again, at least.
But how much of a relief can this really be when Mike still remembers being a “fragment”, and knows that the only reason he is real is because he made himself that way? Even if the gaps in his mind are gone, even if other people now acknowledge his past as he remembers it, he still knows that he was born as a figment of his brother’s imagination-- and now he is the only person in the world who is aware of that, which is its own type of isolation. Since Devil’s Reign is also addressing the topic of the Purple Children’s mind wipe that re-set Matt’s secret identity, it is tempting to draw parallels between that and Mike’s reality rewrite. Mike has found himself in the same position that Matt was once in: the only person with memories of a previous version of the world. Matt decided he couldn’t live with that, and so re-revealed his secret identity to Foggy, restoring Foggy’s memories. Here, Mike does essentially the same thing, telling Butch his big secret, which he has been keeping to himself since the Annual-- though in this case, it is a much more painful revelation.
I was intensely stressed reading this scene for the first time, because in doing this, Mike is ripping open a wound and revealing a huge vulnerability. What is it like for him to admit this to someone close to him, after he went to all of that trouble to reshape reality and negate that former version of himself? He is clearly uncomfortable; I love that he drops the bomb real quick, doesn’t explain it at all, and switches right away to talking about the Norn Stone. (“I’m not real, long story, ANYWAY, let me tell you about this rock I’ve got.”). And Butch is so distracted that it doesn’t register at all. Mike is baring his soul here, and his friend doesn’t notice and is unwilling to listen. Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe Mike shouldn’t be going around reminding people that he isn’t a real person. But it is sad to see him get blown off two issues in a row by people he is trying to help. Once again, he is finding himself isolated and alone. Maybe, on further reflection, there is a smidgen of a self-serving side to his desire to save Butch...because without Butch, he has no one.
This scene leaves me with one pressing Mike-related question: What, exactly, was he planning to do with the Norn Stone? How did he intend to use it to save Butch? Magically make the Kingpin lose the election? Remove Butch’s ability to commit murder? Go back in time and stop them from making this plan in the first place? With the Norn Stone now back in play, I’m anticipating the possibility of it being wielded against Fisk’s Purple Man powers in the big “Devil’s Reign” climax next issue. But we’ll see.

SANDERS SIDES KARAOKE: GOTHIC LITERATURE MUSICALS EDITION
Okay, so after four years of being in the Sanders Sides fandom, I’m going to attempt to write some headcanons. Here we go.
Since it’s well-known in fanon that the sides do have karaoke sessions, imagine what would happen if they sang musicals based on gothic literature.
Roman’s happy because broadway, duh, Logan is happy because it’s canon that he enjoys gothic literature since he dressed up as Frankenstein’s monster for Halloween, same reason for Virgil and Patton’s happy that his family is bonding. He made extra cookies for the occasion. He’s dangerous like that.
(I headcanon that when Thomas had to write analyses of gothic literature novels for school, Virgil, Roman and Logan would work together to come up with stuff and write the best essays in class and Patton would be so proud of them)
I’m not going to count Les Mis because I’m not too sure if that counts as gothic literature and whilst the Hunchback of Notre Dame is indeed gothic (trust me I read that in a plane once. An entire, like, ten pages is dedicated to describing the scenery) I don’t think it became a broadway show.
Now this isn’t like their usual karaoke nights, no sir. Just idly remaining in the living room won’t do. Where is the gusto? The pizazz? The accolade winning extravaganza? The-
“We get it Princey, can you just get on with it?” - Virgil
No, this type of singing can only be accompanied with an atmosphere that will do it justice. To the imagination they go and with Logan’s (who has practically memorised every single one of these books and is not geeking out at all) input on how the novels describe each setting, Roman creates very intricate landscapes for each song.
When they sing ‘Alive’ from ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ Roman thought that it would be really cool for Patton to play Mr Edward Hyde since Hyde is literally the human id and Patton, being the embodiment of morality, is literally the superego (although to be fair, Patton is also shown to be quite childish and impulsive since he’s also the base of Thomas’ emotions and Hyde is impulsive because he’s a way for Jekyll to act on his own emotions - especially since the only crime that Hyde does in the book are him over-reacting with his anger by beating a man to death. And in the novella, Jekyll writes that he and Hyde are like father and son and that Hyde is actually younger than Jekyll is, he does have that sense of childishness that Patton has only instead of that childishness being good and helpful, it’s bad and hurtful. Plus in the soundtrack of Alive, whilst Anthony Warlow does sing about how good being evil feels like, he also sounds like he is crying tears of joy of being able to be himself, the first words post-transformation being freedom and anyways these are supposed to be fun headcanons not analytical headcanons so I digress…)
Anyways Patton is happy to play the villain because “look kiddos, Roman conjured up this really swell cape” “the correct term is cloak” “and check out this top hat and cane!” and he’s just belting out the words and froliking around Victorian London without a care in the world, making his cape swoosh in the wind.
“Patton I would advise you not to take your shoes off. This is nineteenth-century London with people dying of cholera by the dozens, your feet could catch a myriad of infections.”
“Worry not, specs, the scenery is merely an illusion. I would never allow for our dear padre to succumb to the villain of illness”
“Aww, thanks kiddo (cue Patton’s sunshine smile) now where was I? IT’S THE FEELING OF BEING ALIVE! FILLED WITH EVIL AND TRULY ALIVE!”
They have Logan sing ‘I Need To Know’ because a doctor of science singing about wanting to expand his knowledge and having that thirst to do whatever it takes to get said knowledge. That is a Logan Sanders song right there. At first he’s like “why do I have to sing. I was happy enough giving directions and helping you with the scenery” but Roman creates this big scientific library that could rival the one from Beauty and the Beast/ laboratory from that’s practically the identical to Jekyll’s lab in the book and he’s like “Fine” like he isn’t enjoying himself. He is. They all know it. He’s not fooling anyone
Patton and Roman sing ‘Bring on the men’ together (yes, whilst wearing dresses) whilst Virgil and Logan drink apple juice from those big british beer glasses in the mind-scape created Red Rat (which Logan is quick to point out doesn’t exist and is vocally upset at how the musical adaptation added unnecessary romantic subplots with Lisa and Lucy when the book itself only had three background female characters who were only there for like one paragraph. He’s even more upset at the other inaccuracies with the book like how in the play Jekyll creates his formula as a cure for mental illness and Hyde was accidental whilst in the book he did it because he wanted to indulge in sin without fearing the consequences and Hyde, whilst not being exactly what he wanted, was actually created on purpose or how in the book Hyde only kills one man and in the musical he kills practically everyone except for the one person he did kill. Virgil pats him on the back with sympathy). Roman and Virgil are sniggering at the sexual euphemisms at the end of the song whilst Patton’s confused. She just seems really enthusiastic about food.
Roman sings both parts of ‘Confrontation’ by himself. He gets a standing ovation.
He also does ‘Transformation’. The problem is that he was so good at sounding like he was in complete agony and near death that they had to stop the song prematurely because Patton was getting upset. Don’t worry, Pat gets lots of cuddles by Roman afterwords.
(You know what I might do some sides reacting to The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde later because 1. It’s my favourite book and 2. All four of them would have very interesting takes on it)
From the Frankenstein musical Virgil plays the criminal from ‘Say Amen’ because he wants to (seriously, the guy’s first words in the song are ‘I curse the day that I was born into a world so black with hate’) and Logan plays Victor Frankenstein but Patton refuses for his son to even pretend to be executed by the noose so they have Roman play a man wearing a british executioner outfit with a foam sword and the creative side just bonks the anxious side on the neck with it. Logan despairs about the historical inaccuracy from his place in the stands whilst Patton is cheering next to him. Patton also hands him an extra jumper to keep him warm in the Switzerland cold.
“Patton, I am grateful that you are thinking of my health but no one in eighteenth century Switzerland wore bright blue jumpers with cartoon kittens on them”
“Really, Logan, are you paw-sitive?”
“I would like to change places with Virgil. Immediately”
Roman and Logan turn ‘Birth to my creation’ into a duet because Logan enjoys the scientific aspect of it and Roman can’t resist the drama (of course). He goes all out. He makes Victor’s lab perfect to the smallest detail (and cheers when Logan’s eyes start lighting up and he does that cute clappy thing when he’s excited), he conjures a storm and makes lightning strike at the best moments of the song. He even creates a wretch’ (what Victor calls the monster in the book. I’ve heard that it’s name is Adam but all I remember from the novel is Victor calling himself god and the creature his Adam) to lie on the table.
“And we didn’t even have to go grave-robbing for it. Or drop out of University.” - Roman
“No matter how many times I wanted to.” - Virgil
Roman and Virgil do most of the songs from Dracula. The creative side creates this huge, expensive-looking window-balcony thing with glass double doors and billowing silk curtains so that he could dramatically sing ‘the longer I live’ whilst the wind blows through his hair and he dramatically drapes himself on the balustrade so that the light from the full moon hits his figure just right. Patton’s close to crying.
Logan is very eager to give as many facts as he can about nineteenth-century mental institutions for ‘The Master’s Song’. He gets really into the history behind certain treatments and different cases. Roman plays Renfield and the others play doctors.
Virgil is super into Dracula’s castle during ‘Life after life’. He and Roman duet that song wearing all-black. Logan tries to help Patton’s slight fear by telling him the history behind different pieces of architecture.
Patton plays Christine during Phantom of the Opera
Roman, Virgil and Logan sing ‘A story told’ from The Count of Monte Cristo around a circular table in a dimly lit tavern. Patton takes pictures and drinks hot chocolate in the sidelines.

Goshiki having a crush on the manager and being jealous of Ushijima
requested: Hi! Id like to request a scenario for goshiki: reader is the manager and she knows a lot about vb so she really helps. Goshiki's a crush on her so every time he does smth cool he looks at her waiting for a reaction. Reader always cheers on him, but she's very close with ushi and he gets jealous and asks him to play a 1on1. He accepts and Goshi messes up and reader tells him smth like "you don't need to do anything to impress me, I already admire you" and end up together somehow. Thanks!! ❤️
Goshiki is so cute I love this man :(( This request also totally sounds like something he would do omg
Tumblr media
Okay so you were in the first year as well and joined the club at the same time as him, the current manager being your cousin. It was clear to you you wanted to be the manager - you liked volleyball, and you tried playing it, but you rather kept track of the players statistics and helped them get better. Playing was not the thing for you - you rather helped them.
And Goshiki has crushed on you since pretty much the beginning. He’s not the type of guy to be shy about, but he’s not that obvious, either.
He just always watches you (no, he’s not staring!) and he definitely wants to impress you! He’s always looking out for your reaction to his spikes and attacks, he wants all the praise and cheers! He just wants to be recognized and complimented, especially from the girl he admires the most
And you, being one of the most supportive people ever, always obliege to his needs, clapping and cheering for him. He always tries to look smug after, but really he just blushes when you cheer his name and compliment him and the whole team teases their baby ace for it.
And you’re also really cute, the whole team immediately fell in love with you in a certain way. They just want to protect their baby manager! They always look out that no creepy guys from other teams walk up to you, they take turns in walking you home when it’s dark out and they’re always somewhere around you in school. You find it very indearing. It helped you a lot with getting comfrotable around so many tall, intimidating boys.
For some reason no one really understands Tendou and Ushijima grew particularly fond of you. When you’re not helping one of the others or stand next to the coaches, analyzing what was going on, you stood at their side and talked to them, watched them and made jokes with them (Tendou).
Goshiki doesn’t fail to notice this, though, since all his concentration during practice is on both you and volleyball. He feels quite jealous when you spend so much time with them - especially Ushijima, since he’s kind of a rival to him.
So whenever you’re laughing together with the third-years and your attention is not on Goshiki, he will quickly call your name and you’ll watch his moves in awe, before smiling widely and clapping. “That was so cool, Goshiki! Good job!” And then Ushijima will tune in with critique on his technique and Goshikis mood will be down a bit, until you shake your head and argue that you think he’s improved a lot.
Whatever Goshiki tries, he never really gets your full attention. Did you even notice him? He didn’t just want to be a member of the team or a friend from school to you.
But honestly, he didn’t have to worry baout that if only he knew that you did in fact admire him. For his determination and skill at his age. He immediately caught your eye when you were at your first practice and you grew fond of him faster than you liked - his constantly for praise searching personality somehow bewitched you in a way. You found him very cute.
Once at practice they played a practice match within the team and Goshiki and Ushijima were on opposing sides. Ushijima went for an attack that Goshiki tried to block or save, but he was having a hard time. the fact that you only cheered for Ushijima didn’t help, either. So afterwards Goshiki bravely walks up to his senior and asks for a one-on-one.
The whole team is escalating into cheers and laughs and Ushijima looks unimpressed as ever. Until Tendou comes up behind him and whispers something into his ear about “you won’t be here next year, it will be good for his technique as the future ace” and so Ushijima agrees as Goshiki freezes on the spot. So that was set. The next day at practice it will be his time to shine - not just in front of the team, but mainly in front of you. He will finally show you that he can be just as good as Ushijima. Or even better.
You’re a little unsure about the whole thing. You awkwardly walk up to Ushijima and ask him to be nice to Goshiki and not swamp the younger boy with impossible attacks. Ushijima just blinks at you, saying how he doesn’t see any sense behind the whole thing if he doesn’t pour in his everything so Goshiki can learn.
Tendou grins in the background. He caught on about Gsohikis feelings for you since the beginning and also noticed how you seemed to be especially nice to the first-year. He knew exactly what you were doing - and what Goshiki was trying to do with this game.
Goshiki stayed in the gym a lot longer that day, practicing every attack and serve he could think of so that he would be prepared for the next day.
They both play with another player on their field, as a one-on-one in volleyball was a little hard to do. Though, the second player on the field would not do much other than save the occasional ball and mainly set the ball for Goshiki and Ushijima.
You’re anxiously sitting on the sidelines along with Tendou and the other members. Your mind is torn - do you cheer for Ushijima or Goshiki? Do you even cheer for one of them or just stay silent? You fiddle your fingers as the match begins and the ball flies over the net repeatedly.
It is clear that Ushijima will win from the beginning. He makes sure there is a big point gap from the beginning on and uses many different techniques. But Goshiki really tries his hardest to keep up and score points himself. You really feel with him, especially after Ushijima wins the first set with a 10 point difference and Goshikis jaw clenches along with his fists. He’s sweating from head to toe but still manages to spike some balls and runs across the field to save the ball and punch it back over the net.
Still, he looses. And when he realizes it he falls to his knees and places his bare hands on the floor. His body is shaking and choked sounds escape his figure. You walk up to him in worry - Maybe he overworked himself? Did he strain a muscle? Did he hurt himself?
You kneel down next to him, softly placing a hand on his back as you realize he was crying. The drops falling down his face and landing on the floor were not drops of sweat but tears, the sounds escaping his mouth were quiet sobs.
“Goshiki...” you say quietly. “Does something hurt? Is everything okay?”
The worrisome tone in your voice, your hand on his back and your proximity finally do it for him. He looks up at the ceiling, tears still steraming down his cheeks uncontrollably. “No, Y/N! I really wanted to win, I really wanted to.” he sobs and the whole scene almost breaks your heart. “How else are you ever going to notice me?! How else can I get you to like me and look up to me and admire me like you do with him?!”
Your eyes widen as he looks at you with pure frustration in his reddened eyes. His cheeks were glowing as well - but you didn’t know if it was from exhaustion, the crying or maybe even embarrassment.
“But Goshiki.”, you begin softly, a small smile appearing on your lips. “I already admire you.”
The sobs instantly stop as he’s scanning you in shock. “Really?” his weak voice asks and he wipes the back of his hand over his eyes.
“Of course! How could I not? You’re so good! You’re probably the most determined player on the team and you never loose sight of your goal. You’re so talented for your age! There’s no need for you to compare yourself to Ushijima-san, because he’s so different from you! He’s older, he has more experience and he uses different techniques and you’re doing just fine on your own!”, you explain, your words tumbling out of your mouth before you can stop them.
An unbelieving expression is plastered on his face and he’s unable to move any muscle in his body for a whole moment. He can just gulp and stare at you in shock, the wildest red blush evident on his cheeks and ears.
“Come on, Goshiki! Just ask her out already!” Tendou then cheers and you two realize that you’re not alone and in fact were not the whole time. The rest of the team was watching the scene unfold, their babies still crouching in the middle of the gym. Soon the rest of the gym tunes in on his cheer and you both get so shy, you can barely look at each other.
Before Goshiki can finally open his mouth to say the words you finally feel brave enough to do what you’ve been wanting to do for a while now. Without putting much thought to it you lean forward and just press your lips on his, your face as red as a tomato since all the others were watching. Now they were cheering and yelling as Goshiki fell backwards because he didn’t expect you to put all your weight into the kiss when you leaned forward.
For a second he’s so surprised he doesn’t move at all but then a bomb of serotonin explodes in his body as he grins into the kiss and puts his arms around you to pull you closer.
And that was how a) you started dating, b) the other team members had to pull you apart after some moments and c) an endless story of teasing began.

Starting off easy, I like to be really loud about my opinions when I'm with the right people, and I was about to go be really obnoxious about my opinion of the book The Love Hypothesis, which honestly would have been a bad review, when I decided that maybe I should start off a little nicer.
Before I go off about May the Best Man Win, by ZR Ellor, just keep in mind that I'm going to stay far away from talking about representation in depth because I am out of my depth here. I'm sticking to character development, the plot and themes for the benefit of literally everyone.
Quick rundown of important things:
The main characters are, Jeremy Harkiss, Lukas Rivers and the secondary characters include Naomi, Sol, Ben and a lot more characters.
The book is written from the alternating POVs of Lukas and Jeremy.
The main plot device is that they both want to be the Homecoming king for their own reasons and they basically seem down for anything to get there.
Now for my illustrious opinions.
Firstly, the race for Homecoming King drives the plot, but it's not something that they just want for popularity. Lukas thinks if he wins, he can go to a good college the year after and so maybe he won't be a letdown to his family who ignore him in favour of his older and recently dead brother (I could have put that better ack). Jeremy thinks that being the Homecoming king would get him the validation he wants as a man (He's trans btw I forgot to mention that). So at the very beginning, you get to know each characters motivations and as the story goes, their character growth is very prominent.
The background characters have their own stuff going on. Naomi and Ben have their typical Asian Family Expectations ™ plotline and yes I will give it to you that it is stereotypical, very surface level, but this is represented either from Jeremy's or Lukas' point of view. Canonically, Jeremy is too wrapped up in his own problems, like his transitioning and validation needs, to focus on his friend Naomi, and it's a big thing in the book that he feels bad about but also can't help because he is too overwhelmed. Lukas has the same blinders, because he is too focussed on keeping his family steady after his brother's death, and because he can't cope with how they treat him. A very minor background character was a college dropout with 2 jobs and criminal tendencies (very complained about online btw) and well, it was badly done but that character was a very background character. While it could have been done better, it's not a big deal if his whole story isn't done in detail.
The secondary characters are allowed their opinions and the main characters' actions and behaviour have impacts and consequences. Naomi and Jeremy basically don't talk to each other because of how self absorbed Jeremy is, Lukas ends up pushing people away because of how goal oriented he is. And yes, the main characters feel bad about it, but they don't get this dealt with until like 3/4th of the way in, which is fine.
Btw, Lukas and Jeremy dated before Jeremy came out. I'm guessing people figured it out even though I didn't mention it. Okay, so they're broken up when the story starts and it's fine because we are given the character backgrounds. We dont need to accept at face value that Lukas and Jeremy used to date and broke up and still like each other. There's reasoning, there is observable behaviour. It's a big part of their stories but not so big that it overshadows other conflicts, like each characters internal turmoils and I think that's pretty great. Especially because that is why Jeremy broke up with Lukas, because he couldn't deal with Lukas' emotional baggage as well as his own stuff. Good decision making? No. Realistic? Yes. Lukas is very annoyed at Jeremy's behaviour for understandable reasons. That's good. Your main characters aren't there to be perfect and liked. Hell, id probably really dislike Jeremy if I knew him, but at the same time, it might be because he's too real to me. Jeremy is what I could very easily turn into and it's scary and it's a good thing for a character to be. Lukas, I don't personally relate to, but I know that he has the same impact on others. Even I, and I am completely clueless about anything related to being neurodivergent, or the need to prove myself to my family, could see where Lukas was coming from and that's brilliant.
Okay, Lukas being autistic may be good rep or bad rep, I wouldn't know and I am not proud of that. But why hasn't it featured in this yet if it's a main plot point? Well, I've been avoiding it, and also because Lukas avoids the topic so while it's there, it's there as something he feels the need to overcome. Good message? No. But that's the point. The book doesn't glorify that or anything, it's part of the character's struggles and beliefs.
The other character id like to bring up is Sol. They are non binary and a computer geek and on surface level the Characterisation ends there. Good? No. Regardless of that, they are an important character because of their associations to Jeremy and Lukas. Their relationship with Lukas could use work. A lot of it. But their relationship with Jeremy is honestly great. Sol is both a plot device which I'm not happy about, because there's so much potential, and their own character. They act as a plot device because of how they impact Jeremy. Jeremy wants to do away with his identity as a Trans Boy, because to him and to Society, it is a reminder that he isn't the exact same. Problematic but that's the point. Sol desperately wants Jeremy to really own his identity as a trans boy and as a gay boy, and their influence and by association, the GSL's influence on Jeremy makes him a lot less antisocial. Oh look, character development.
Lukas, once he gets his closure from Jeremy, grows because he isn't held back by that nagging thought anymore. And it's gradual but it's great.
To wrap up (because I could go on and on but I'm lazy) it's a good book, it has its flaws but really, what book does not. The main reason I give it a pretty good review is maybe because I like it. I might be back with problems later once I get a bit detached. But that won't mean the book was unenjoyable because it was a great read, and oh my god if you get attached to a character, get ready to die of heartache.
Anyway, this hasn't been a hot take, but it's been a very long review.

Hwang Hyunjin x Female Reader
With washed out, dyed pastel hair, sea salt and acrylic clinging to his jeans, Hwang Hyunjin expected to find himself many places that night. A jail holding cell. Under the abandoned train station bridge. Maybe even his own bedroom.
Your living room wasn't on the list.
Warnings - Some angst in later chapters, suggestive/smut, minor character death mentions, Hyunjin is an eboy and a little angsty, Changbin is doing his best as a big brother, slow burn (?)
A/N - Finally! Sorry for the delays, my head just hasn’t been with me this week;; I hope you enjoy this series as much as I am excited to write it.
***
The steady buzzing of your speakers fills the living room as you watched Changbin scroll through the Netflix home page. Both of you settle deep into the sofa, balancing a bowl of popcorn and chocolate between your knees.
“Endgame? Homecoming, Nightmare on Elm Street?” Binnie flicks through the suggestions, and you shake your head in distaste. “I'm not watching that octopus documentary again!”
“You only hated it because you cried at the end.”
“She died! He had to look after her little babies! Your heart is too cold, too far gone for that level of compassion.” The last part of your brother's grumbles are cut off when you throw a burnt kernel at his forehead, barely missing his ear.
There’s nobody else home. Nobody else ever comes home, either. It's been just you and Changbin for a while, and it's not all that terrible. He’s a few years older than you, having graduated last summer and now undertaking an apprenticeship at the village police station. It doesn't pay a stellar amount, but Changbin reassures you once he passes the trainee exams he’ll treat you to a new pair of winter boots and you can finally quit the ice cream parlour to focus on college. You tell him that even if he wins the lottery tomorrow, you'll work your own job. For all the support your elder brother gives you, you like having your own thing. It makes you feel a little more involved, a little more even than jsit washing the dishes and doing his laundry on days he’s too tired to move.
The Thursday evening is reserved for you both, to catch up on the hours together you miss during the week when Changbin doesn't get back till you're fast asleep and you don't have the chance to say good morning.
He’s been doing that a lot more recently.
Sighing into his coffee, shaking his head at nobody in particular. It's easy to notice the signs of stress and overwork in his face, sunken and tired even on the weekends when he finishes early.
“Do you wanna finish Teen Wolf?” The softness in his voice when he addresses you is the same, though. “We have three episodes left of this season, if you wanna binge.”
“Sure.” You want to ask him about the circles under his eyes. What’s got him coming home later and later because nothing ever happens in this town. “I'm still waiting on Derek’s redemption arc.”
You're twenty minutes into the episode when a vibration from your coffee table catches your attention. You glance at Changbin, but he ignores his ringtone, flipping it to silent.
It rings again, no music, but harsh vibrations drumming against the polished wood.
And again.
Knowing he’s not picking up to make a point of it, you pause the show, nodding at the mobile he’s avoiding glancing at. “Go on. Pick up, it might be an emergency.”
“If it's an emergency they don't need an intern there.” Despite his words, Changbin shifts his position and you know he’s growing hesitant.
“If it's an emergency all the more reason for you to be there and learn.” You state with more force behind your tone. “Why have your grades been dropping? You're coming home so late but your exams keep getting delayed -”
“My grades are fine!” Changbin never snaps at you, but the frustration in his voice is evident. “I'm fine. There's just - Just one case we're working on and I'm nearly there, I just need time.”
You shut your mouth, letting him speak.
“There’s this kid who keeps tagging the beach houses on Dawning Lane, and that shit  was expensive to put up last year. Some stupid, bored child that thinks a few cans of spraypaint and lung cancer are a good excuse for your adolescence. He’s not even that good… Just scribbles.”
His lips pout in a frustrated whine at the last phrase, and you know he’s more frustrated at the situation than he is at you or himself.
A beat of silence, interrupted by another ringtone - you almost reach for it yourself to check the caller ID and force him to pick up, before Changbin’s arm shoots out past you to snatch the device, slinking out the door and into the hallway.
You aren't surprised when a few moments later, your brother’s head pokes nervously out the door frame - He's already got his coat on, waving his phone at you as an awkward goodbye.
“I’ll see you in the morning, y/n.”
“Yeah, see ya.” You salute back, smiling to ease the tension in his shoulders, and it works a minimum. You won’t see him till the late evening at best.
The door clicks shut as soon as he turns around, leaving you surrounded by popcorn and empty space. You really aren't surprised - but it'd be pointless to deny you weren't hurt by another night alone with Teen Wolf playing idly through your TV speakers. Cold popcorn only did so much to soothe your heart, and the distance wedging itself recently between your sibling bond was hard to brush over, between missed calls and texts too often left unanswered.
You just really miss your big brother.
You commit yourself to Stiles Stilinsky instead, sighing into the blanket around your shoulders. Autumn rolls in quick by the seaside, making your calves prickle with goosebumps. It's nearing 11pm, you realise, picking up the -
Thump!
Your fingers freeze, hovering over the TV remote. Changbin wouldn’t be back yet, he never comes home the same night he leaves.
“Bin?” You try it anyway, calling tentatively into the hallway. It’s still entirely black, void of disruption.
Clang!
That definitely came from your kitchen.
Armed with a half empty popcorn bowl and nerves of steel, you tiptoe into the other room. There’s a lump of something or someone crouched behind the dining table, and your grip around the glass dish tightens marginally despite the quivering of your knees, fumbling for the lightswitch without taking your eyes off the rising dark mass as it straightens its back.
“S-Stay down! I have corn and I know how to use it!” You don’t have a fully formed plan yet, but you’re sure the sharp kernels will be of some importance. Fluorescent white light floods the kitchen, momentarily blinding both you and the intruder who now stands at full height. A steady 12 inches above you.
“Ouch! Calm down, I’m not going to rob you!” He says, sounding almost exasperated at your defense of your own property. He still has his hands raised in defense, keeping the table between himself and you, and you’re grateful he hasn’t tried to knock your legs out from under you, yet. “I’m not here to steal your stuff.”
“What are you here for, then?” You lower the popcorn bowl, but don’t let it fall out of your grasp. He doesn’t seem dangerous - He doesn’t seem like he could manage clambering through the window you always leave ajar either, but here he clearly is. There’s something sticky and pink in his blonde hair, stains following down his shoulder blades all the way down the cuffs of his jeans. If anything, he looks...a little lost.
“It’s the address on the post-it note.” Your confusion must have been plainly obvious, because the boy elaborates, pulling a crumpled neon-green paper from his jacket. “The post-it note that man gave me. That’s what Changbin gave me.”
Perhaps you lack self preservation instincts, but there’s an uncertain vibration in his voice that makes you give up your weapon and attitude.
“You know my brother?”
“He told me if I really need to go somewhere, I can come here.” You watch slim fingers tug at the sleeves of his jacket as he measures with a weight akin to a glare. “He didn’t tell me it was his house, or that somebody else was living here.”
Bold of him to accuse you of ruining his night plans.
It really did only click in your head when you looked closer at his tangled hair, dried paint clumping it together at the ends of bleached blonde strands. The  artistic menace haunting your sea-side town was standing right on your tiled kitchen floor, and he looked downright miserable.
And Changbin had invited him.
Biting down the discomfort at realising how little Changbin had been telling you recently,  you set the popcorn down on the table, you take in the threat currently three feet before you. A tall, lanky boy, with odd shoelaces and a sharpie sticking out of his trouser pocket. His hair hasn’t been cut in a while, and probably brushed either - it’d be generous to say he ran more than a stressed hand through it anytime recently. Though chapped, his full lips and wide eyes made him look far too innocent for his own good, and you blamed your soft heart for finding the boy kinda cute.
He did have a leaf stuck above his ear, though.
You almost reached up to remove it.
“Do you wanna watch Teen Wolf?”  You break the quiet that settled, already shuffling your feet out into the living room. You sincerely hoped he’d follow. You weren’t sure what you could do apart from leaving him standing on cold tile, and he already looked freezing from the night chill.
Luckily for you, with a hesitant step, your impromptu companion takes after you to the couch where your Netflix and remove still await instruction. Changbin might grumble at you tomorrow at finishing the season without him, but you needed something to lure the boy into comfort.
“I’m y/n, by the way.” You mention. The boy sits stiffly, clasping his hands in his lap with parted lips, avoiding the decorative pillows.
“Hyunjin.” Now that he’s actually inside your house, Hyunjin’s confidence seems to have evaporated. The thrill of the break-in, if you can even call is that, has worn off, giving way to the nerves. He’s suddenly too conscious of the paint on his clothes, of sandy shoes still on his feet, of the smudges still on his cheeks. Should he take his jacket off? Or wipe his shoes?
You press resume, watching him relax after a few minutes as his brain finally has something else to focus on to let his worries ease. Hyunjin doesn't seem to mind you already being halfway through the episode, and you let yourself admit it’s nice having someone around this late at night.
“How do you know Changbin?” You ask while the topic is still fresh.
“I don’t.” Hyunjin bumps his knees together, fiddling with a loose string on his jeans as he shrugs. “I don’t really know him, he just...saw me around a few times, and I guess he figured I could use a place to crash. So he gave me your address.”
“You’re the mystery kid painting the beach houses, right? On Dawning Lane.”
At the accusation, Hyunjin’s lips part, flipping to face you with wide, blinking eyes., knowing he’s in no place to try and deny it. You blink back, observing his reactions, in case he suddenly changes his mind about staying. “Are you gonna turn me in?...”
“No.” You shake your head after a moment of thought, and he visibly untenses. “For whatever reason Changbin didn’t, so I won’t either. If he trusts you then I do too.”
You’ll never know if it was the murmurs of the TV, or if Hyunjin did whisper a thank you, and you won’t ask. There’s a lot of things you do want to ask, but a tug in your heart tells you now is not the time. Hyunjin looks exhausted, eyes drooping with every slow blink as he does his best to focus on the screen, hands previously tugging at his jeans now still and flat on his lap, slouched forward as if any moment he’ll drift off sitting on your pillows. Flurries of fluorescent light flicker on his cheeks, over barely scrubbed paint smudges and faint cuts from running too fast, you guess. In the delicate, dimmed light of your floor lamp, it’s hard to imagine Hyunjin as a bad kid. Prickly, maybe. On edge is a better word for it, tension clinging to his shoulders like stubborn dust bunnies. Curse your naive little heart, you tell yourself, building up your courage to speak.
“Hyunjin?” He hums in response, straightening his back. “Do you want to sleep here tonight?”
All you’ve been taught in life sent alarm bells through your skull when you asked a complete stranger (who just two hours ago, broke in through your kitchen window) to sleep in your living room overnight, but Hyunjin didn’t feel  like a stranger. Changbin trusted him enough to lead him right to your house, so that must count for something, right? And no matter how much you tried to keep your guard up around the boy, watching him struggle to stay upright instead of letting his tall, lanky body fall backward and rest comfortably only made you worry a little about him, not the other way around.
Well, he did say he’s not going to rob you.
“You can sleep on the couch if you want, I’ll bring you some blankets.” You prompt him again when he doesn’t respond. “Changbin won’t be back for a while still.”
“Are you sure you’re okay with that?” There’s a lilt of doubt in his voice, but he sincerely hopes you’re serious. This couch is warmer than anything he’s slept on in months and he really doesn’t want to crawl outside again with the rain pattering against your roof.
“Sure, you haven’t tried to stab me yet.” You shrug, getting up to fetch a duvet and looking him over.
“Ah, you probably want to wash your hair from all...that,” Hyunjin’s hand flies to his hair, patting out the tangles as if it’s the first time he’s noticed them. “You can use the bathroom upstairs, there’s towels by the shower already.”
He nods, following your directions with a ‘thank you’. Once his footsteps disappear up the landing, you set about pulling out the couch into a flatbed, rearranging the pillows at its base. Lugging the duvet down from Changbin’s room had been a feat, but you’re determined to make the space welcoming. Satisfied with the cushioned bundle you created, you run back upstairs.
You invade your brother’s room for the second time that day, tugging open his drawers in search for something acceptably pijama-like.
“Hyunjin?” You knock tentatively on the bathroom door as the shower head turns off and the shuffling ceases. “I’m leaving some clothes for you to change into outside, okay? Come downstairs when you’re ready.”
You scroll through your timeline as you wait, catching up on the last few hours’ events from your friends until a shuffling to your left prompts you to raise your head.
Your brother’s sweats hang a little loosely around Hyunjin’s hips, ending just above his ankles, bare feet sliding over the wooden floor of your living room, sinking into the rug as he steps closer to where you sit. His own clothing cradled in his arms close to his chest, you can’t stop your thoughts drifting momentarily to the damp mess of sunshine coloured hair. With his jacket on earlier, it was hard to make out his build under layers of fabric, but now it’s proving a challenge to not focus on the lines of his arms or the curves of his large hands gripping his clothes. Luckily for your dignity, your nerves of steel allow you to drag your gaze away from the collarbones peeking out from under thin white cotton higher to meet his eyes instead and find your voice again.
“I brought down some pillows for you, these are a bit too hard to sleep on.” You note, pointing to the decorative cushions you moved onto the lounge chair. “My room is right opposite the bathroom if you need anything, I’m a light sleeper.”
“M’okay.” Hyunjin towers above you, yet you’ve never seen a boy so dainty. There really is no other way to describe the delicate line of his nose bridge or the rosy tint of his lips when his tongue pokes out to lick them as he mulls over your words, settling down on the makeshift bed.
The proximity now feels different than the air between you when Teen Wolf still blared through your speakers, warm quiet heavy on your tongue with dim golden glow tumbling over his cheekbones that’s too much for your heart to take unprepared.
“Goodnight then!” You bounce up from the couch waving Hyunjin a quick goodbye, but a soft hand wrapping around your wrist pauses you.
“Wait,” Hyunjin brushes his thumb over your palm softly, and you hope he doesn't notice the goosebumps on your skin at the contact. “Thanks for not kicking me out...or calling the police. Y’know, as most people would for a break in.”
The smile he flashes you is almost teasing, but you can tell he means the words sincerely. You lay your other hand on top of his, patting in what you hope is a reassuring motion.
“Sure, Jinnie. It’s okay.”

Neil Abraham Josten‘s Birth Chart Analysis
Neil is a never endingly entertaining character, to read about and analysis. As a self proclaimed astrologer I've taken up the task of reading some of Neil's birth charts to better understand our beautiful Junkie. This might seem like a waste of time to most people, including myself, but I have no life and I need divination intuition practice.
*Note: the information we were given about Neil’s birthday is he was born January 19, 1988 in either Alexandria, Virginia or Baltimore, Maryland. We do not know his time of birth so I can’t tell you his rising (If I had to guess: Aries?) or houses. I just go over his big 6 in this post. Nora if you see this… what time was Neil born?
Sun: Capricorn
Your sun sign is considered your core self, that’s why everyone knows their sun sign (and because it’s the easiest to calculate). Fundamentally Capricorn suns are defined by their need for structure. They are people who are very skilled and ambitious and focused on this material plain. For Neil this manifests as his fixation on Exy. When Capricorns want to be good at something they will stop at nothing to achieve this goal to the point of self destruction. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, planet of fortune, which basically means Capricorns are almost destined to go through some sort of great misfortune, normally involving money in some way. Neil's money problems are deadlier than most but it's classic with this sign. Similar to how your Moon sign represents your relationship with your mother, your sun represents your father. Fun fact about the deity Saturn or Kronos: He ate his children. Need I say more? Capricorn and daddy issues are basically synonyms. Capricorn's aren't necessarily social, mostly because their trauma leads them to avoiding people to protect themselves. They put their goals ahead of all else, including love and connection. Neil rather talks about Exy then sexuality. Some say this make’s capricorns boring but these people clearly have never met a capricorn. Capricorns might be rough around the edges, but in my experience they are great friends, even if they don’t realize it.
Moon: Aquarius
OH THE MOMMY ISSUES!!! So your moon represents your emotional self and your relationship with your mother... and Aquarius is ruled by Uranus or Ouranos in Greek myth. You thought Saturn/Kronos eating his kids was bad? URANUS SHOVED HIS CHILDREN BACK INTO HIS WIFES WOMB!!! I see this play out in how mother was highly disattached from him, leading him to respond to emotional situations in a disattached and uninteresting way. This is shown in how he grieves for Seth. Contrary to popular belief, Aquarius is an air sign, meaning they have the characteristic Air sign aversion to feeling feelings. They prefer to logic their way through situations and to use their coping mechanism to deal. Yes they have emotions but they don’t like to share them (‘iM FiNe”). In contrast with Neil's Capricorn sun Aquarius moon needs to be able to communicate. Not about feelings but about what they do like talking about what they enjoy. This leads to a personality that craves human connection but doesn't know how to ask for it. Aquarius moon people also don't really give a shit about labels. It's all semantics for them. Now here is my unpopular opinion: Aquarius placements are sarcastic and temperamental. I know I said they don’t really like to share their emotions, but I feel Anger in aquarius is a natural consequence of not sharing their emotions. TL;DR Aqaurius placements we know you use sarcasm to mask your feelings. Talk about it.
Mercury: Aquarius
So your Mercury is how you communicate with the world and your logical mind. again Aquarius is a logical air sign. These people are natural intelligence. Yes this does explain why Neil is good at math. He doesn't necessarily have to study to understand things as much as he can just get things from intuition. This explains his playstyle being largely intuitive and hard to explain how he knows things. Mercury in Aquarius people are active protagonists in their lives and do things to change the things in their lives (see him bringing together the team) as the humanitarians of the zodiac it comes naturally. Also going back to his capricorn sun mixed with his Aquarius in mercury means he physically cannot not talk about Exy and opening up about feeling’s is actually painful.
Venus: Pisces
BOTTOM!!! No but seriously, Your Venus is how you relate to people, the things you value, and your romantic endeavors. Pisces is something else really. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac giving them a spiritual, almost not their quality.  They don't like large groups typically prefer smaller social gatherings. When a Venus in Pisces love you they don't have boundary (you literally can't make this shit up it's literally the astrological embodiment of "It's always yes with you") they love you wholeheartedly and when it's just the two of you it's just two souls alone in an endless universe. If this sounds like an Andriel kiss scene then good because that's the vibe Pisces energy just gives off when they're MAKING YOUR DAMN HEART MELT WHAT THE HELL!!! So like most water signs THE SAVIOR COMPLEX IS REAL WITH THIS ONE!!! Neil values sacrifice and he rather be hurt then let someone else get hurt (*cough* running away to Evermore for Andrew *cough*). Pieces  will see you as your best self and likes to imagine you as your best self (Kevin and Neil both want Andrew to achieve his full potential in Exy). Venus really likes it in Pisces so pisces people are wholehearted in how they love. Basically they will love you with their entire soul and it will feel like a real life pipe dream. The only thing that can shatter this is when the other person tries to sabotage themself and their highest potential. Pisces wants the best for everyone and it hurts them to see other people not reach their fullest self. This is why that scene in TKM where Neil felt really hurt after Andrew didn't want to celebrate after winning the game and belittled Exy ment to much. More mushy gushy stuff, they believe in true love. They don't need to talk in order to feel that love. They rather just feel your souls connect on a higher level.
Mars: Sagittarius
So your Mars is akin to your Id. It's base animalistic desires. The things that make you tick. Sagittarius being the mutable fire sign is more mellow than your leos or aries. Sagittarius likes experiences. They tend to travel a lot and enjoy travel and experiencing new things. This sign is known for having commitment issues (being ruled by Jupiter) and likes to run from shit. This placement hates people who don't practice what they preach and hates to feel like they're being talked down to. They really want to try new things with you, be it traveling to new places or trying stuff out in the bedroom. Speaking of which… I mean they will try anything once. Definitely adrenaline junkies. The sign most likely to be down for a threesome. Also associated with the hips and thighs so definitely an ass man
Damn that's really where i'm ending it. Here's his chart if you're curious...K bye

MAIN MASTERLIST | CHEEK TO CHEEK MASTERLIST
A slow knock interrupts your plant watering and you glance at the time. Bucky said he’d be by in the afternoon, not the morning. You place your cup of water down and walk over to the door and open it cautiously before your eyes widen and a gasp escapes you as you see who awaits you on the other side.
Sam Wilson, dressed in civilian clothing, shoots you a smirk, “Why don’t we go for a drive?”
You don’t have time to answer. You don’t have time to think. Your blood is cold, your hands are cold, and your feet are cold as they slip into the sandals you keep by the door. You silently - and anxiously - step out into the hallway and shut the door behind you, never taking your eyes off of Sam.
“After you.” he gestures with a smile. You walk.
Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes have a lot of unspoken conversations. Although the rocky start they got off too all those years ago, they’ve grown incredibly close and trust each other like no one else.
So when Bucky calls him late at night, sounding confused, nervous, and unsure, Sam notices. Especially when Bucky then suddenly forgets why he called and what he needed to talk to him about.
Sam’s first thought was that he was drugged. Bucky was given something that clouded his mind. But when Sam saw him the next day, he seemed perfectly fine. So, he proceeded to his second thought.
Bucky was keeping a secret from him.
When Sam was passed the shield, there was one thing each of them asked of each other. Bucky asked to not be a part of the Avengers full time. Sam asked for no secrets and no lying (which he later asked the same from Sharon).
And since then, Bucky has been solely tasked with training new recruits for their seven week training which occurs twice a year, as well as to help on especially difficult cases called to them by the government. And in return, Bucky has not told a single lie to him or kept a single secret. Until now.
So Sam begins to get unimaginably curious. Bucky hasn’t picked up any new hobbies, and after a quick and encrypted check up, none of his extended family have passed away or had anything big happen to them, either. The last thing that Sam can think of to have caused such an odd change in Bucky is a girlfriend. But, if it is a girlfriend, why wouldn’t he tell Sam? Unless, it was someone he knew Sam wouldn’t like.
And that’s when he knew he had to figure out who it was.
So he waited. Until the perfect clue presented itself.
“No, I can’t tonight, man.”
“Why not? I know it’s Friday night, but, what, you got a hot date, or something?”
“Something like that - look, I just have plans I can’t cancel tonight. How about next Friday we go out?”
That was all Sam needed. The plans he couldn’t cancel. So, he waited until later that night and went over to Bucky’s apartment. He’d figure a harmless cock-blocking will teach him not to keep secrets from him anymore.
Until when he put his car into park and gathered his belongings to put them in his pockets, he noticed someone exiting the front of the apartment building; specifically a head of fiery red hair.
Imagine his surprise when he recognizes the face as you.
It doesn’t take long for Sam to figure out where you were. Everyone had already assumed you to be dead, or at least be far away from the country. But now that he knew you were still in New York, a few hours digging into your past and your file led him to a few key locations. From being so separated from society for so long, chances were that you’d find a place you were familiar with, if not the same place, the same area.
Kathleen Grover’s apartment is the first place he checks, but it’s since been turned into higher end condos, a place you probably wouldn’t be able to get away with staying at considering that you probably don’t have an ID or any money. So he checks for the absolute cheapest and low-lying apartments in the neighborhood. Which gives him two results. He just so happened to be lucky on the first one he chose to look into.
Which leads to now, the two of you riding in complete silence, on the way to the Tower, unbeknownst to you.
The only thing that’s going through your mind is Bucky. You hate the idea that he sold you out, because not only would it hurt your feelings, but it would mean those annoying voices in your head would’ve been right.
Yeah, time to put your big girl pants back on. What, you thought you’d live a normal life at some point? Buy a big house? Go out to fancy, populated restaurants? Maybe DisneyWorld? Get a grip! You were always a mistake and a failure. And you’re going right back where you belong, in that box! And Bucky will be right there in that observation room when they stick the needle in your arm and end you for good.
You swallow down the bile that comes up at the thought of going back to prison.
It was fun while it lasted. Decorating the apartment. The tattoos. The new recipes. The movie nights with Bucky. The sleepovers with Bucky. The list with Bucky. The long road trips with Bucky. The music playlists with Bucky. Bucky.
You’ll miss Bucky the most in prison. You’ll think about him everyday. You won’t be able to write him and he won’t be able to write you, not that he’d want to given the fact that he ratted you out, but there was no paper or writing utensils allowed, especially for you.
You’ll dream about his singing when he’d clean, his hugs after waking up, still warm from the sheets, and the unbelievable comfort his eyes provided.
...
“Hey, Sam, how are you?” Bucky absentmindedly answers as he finishes up watering the plants in his living room.
“Hey, man. You busy? Mind meeting me at the tower?” Bucky can hear his car in the background.
“Uh, yea, sure I can. New case?” He asks, setting down his watering kettle and walking towards his room to put on a fresh pair of socks and sneakers. If it’s a new case, there’s no point in getting all done up to listen to Sam debrief him.
“Something like that. Just get here, yea?”
That’s odd.
Normally when Sam calls Bucky about a case, he gives him at least some of the details. That was a part of their plan, their deal. Bucky only joins on missions on special occasions and with specific circumstances. So why wouldn’t Sam give the tiniest hint of what’s going on?
Unless it’s something Bucky’s involved in.
Is Zemo dead? Has he escaped? Some other big Hydra villain that’s come to light?
Bucky’s mouth goes dry like cotton at the thought of something involving you. Did someone recognize you and turn you in? Did Sam find you? No, no, he couldn’t have. The both of you had been so unbelievably careful, there was no way anyone found you.
Bucky lets out a shaky sigh before grabbing his keys and his wallet and heading out.
That phone call hurt. Hearing Bucky’s voice, for what will probably be the last time in a long, long time. Even if he betrayed you, even if he turned you in, even if he used you, backstabbed you, whatever. That fifteen second phone call caused an excruciating pain in your heart and it was so hard to hold back tears.
You didn’t want to cry. Captain America and Bucky Barnes had humiliated you enough for you to be crying on the way to the Avengers Tower. They don’t deserve your tears, and you don’t even deserve to be shedding them. This is exactly what you had coming to you.
Although the car ride felt like it lasted hours, the two of you arrived at the Avengers tower sooner than you would have liked.
Sam drove the car up though a back entrance, the back of the building opening up like recognizing Sam’s car. The ride in the elevator was quiet as Sam flashes a crystal-looking card and presses one of the thirty-seven buttons of the building.
He hadn’t put you in handcuffs and it seems he’s chosen a rather secretive way of transporting you here. Granted, you know you wouldn’t win a fight against Sam Wilson, even if you had Marine and HYDRA training under your belt, but, who knows what if you had a knife? Or were secretly an incredibly skilled fighter? What if your powers allowed you to, like, melt people’s brains and he had no idea? That’d probably be your best bet anyway, considering you're in custody at the Avengers Tower in sandals and no bra under your shirt.
The two of you exit out into an empty hallway, quiet, too, you notice. As the two of you approach the end of the hallway, swaying towards the door on the left wall, an interrogation room you deduct from peeking into the small window, a voice stops you.
“Hey, Sam? F.R.I.D.A.Y. told me you’d be here, what’s-”
His voice catches in his throat seeing you and Sam turn around to face him. He feels his eyes widen, his skin pale, his hands become clammy. This can’t be happening. This can not be happening. He walks closer and his steps slow as he’s standing in front of you. He’s literally speechless and as much as he wants to talk, to scream, to question what’s going on, he doesn’t.
His mouth hangs open even though no words come out, and you spit in his face before he gets the chance. He flinches and Sam pushes you into the room before you can react any further.
Bucky wipes your saliva from his cheek and he wants to cry. He wants to choke. He wants to throw a fucking tantrum in the middle of the hallway because he has absolutely no idea what’s going on. He feels a panic attack coming on and uses all of this strength to push it down as Sam exits the room. Relax. Figure out what’s going on so you can fix it; so you can get her the fuck out of here.
“You are going to tell me everything. And I mean everything. Absolutely no one knows that she’s here, or that she’s even alive. Sharon will remain unaware until you give me an explanation.” Sam tells him, his Captain voice taking over, and Bucky silently nods because he’s scared.
This is all so fucked up. And he hopes the truth he’s about to tell Sam will help you more than hurt you.
It’s funny how being in a familiar place affects your mind and body, regardless of how long it’s been. In the time that you’ve been in this interrogation room, your nerves have been completely on edge in a way that they haven’t been since being in prison, the voices have returned in your head, chatty as ever, and you haven’t been so angry since you killed that guard all those years ago in that first prison.
You pick and pull at your cuticles until they bleed and chew at the inside of your cheek until you taste metal.
Think they’ll let you decorate your cell this time? Or do you think they’ll just strap you straight into the medical chair and tie your arm up? No need to waste food, water, and a cot on you. Maybe they’ll bring back the electric chair or the firing squad just for this special occasion! Maybe they’ll have Bucky pull the lever-
“Shut up.” You mumble audibly, already feeling a headache coming on.
Spitting at Bucky felt good and bad at the same time. Good, because he deserves it, and more, after doing this to you; giving you the best and freest two and a half years of your life before snatching it all away from you in a second. Did he do it for fun? Did he like the game, the teasing of befriending you, taking care of you, all because he knew he’d do this and have the last laugh in the end?
It felt bad because as much as this sucks, you can’t find it in you hate Bucky. He’s become your best friend, your only friend, someone you actually trust in this new life you’ve been living. You want to forgive him, hug him, tell him it’s okay, that you’re not mad, that you could never be mad at him. Because you couldn’t. And that might actually be the worst part to all of this.
A click interrupts your thoughts and you stare at the Captain as he pulls out the seat across from you and sits down at the small table. How you wish there was a clock in here; how long had you been waiting for him here?
“What are you feelin’ right now?”
“Sorta like how your little wingman Riley felt when he fell out of the fucking sky.” You snap.
Sam doesn’t react. He remembers the way you’d act during the investigation years ago when they would question you in prison; he’d see the way you snap at them, at the guards, at the other inmates, how you’d really dig deep into people feelings and thoughts to say the worst thing to them in order to bring up bad memories. So, he was kind of already expecting that.
You’re upset, that he can tell from your attitude, your chipped and chewed fingernails, and you slouched sitting position, arms crossed across your chest as you lean against the back of the chair. He doesn’t blame you though, he’d probably be pretty upset, too.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y., stop all audio and video recording from this room from today and erase it completely from every system, please.”
“Clearance level 1 or 2 necessary for that, Captain.”
“Clearance level 2; Wilson, Samuel T.”
“Thank you, Captain. All recordings have been erased and stopped.”
Huh?
“I have a proposition for you.” Sam begins. Your confusion clouds your mind and you don’t process his statement fast enough to respond before he continues.
“I will announce to the press that your body has been found along the coast of the Pacific after following a lead on your whereabouts, I will clarify that you have been found dead and that you drowned, closing the case looking for you. I will provide you with a new identity; that includes a false birth certificate, passport, and other forms of identification with a new name, new birth date, new everything.”
“Is this a fucking joke?” He ignores you.
“There will be a few rules you will have to follow in return. You will have to stay completely hidden out of the populated public for one full year after this announcement is made. You will have to change your appearance; cut your hair, dye it, whatever. You will stay here at the tower where you will be monitored.”
He pauses, like he knows this will be the part you hate most.
“And you will be required to use your abilities to help on future cases the Avengers are tasked with; the same way you did when we came to you with those two cases in the past.”
You’re silent for a moment, “And if I say no?” Your voice is small. You really don’t want to do this. You want to go back to your apartment, you want your clothes, your plants, your blankets, your mugs.
“Then you will be arrested and sent back to prison, in the same exact place on death row you were before.” Your eyes shut, the headache hitting fully.
“Why.” You demand.
“I talked to Bucky,” A roll of your eyes. “He didn’t rat you out, if that’s what you're thinking. I found you all by myself. And I made Bucky tell me absolutely everything. And from there I’m making the decision myself to offer this to you. It’s not my first time helping a globally wanted criminal. Or my second. Or my third. And it honestly probably won’t be my last at this point.”
Do you believe him? Does it even matter if he’s telling the truth or not? You clearly don’t have a choice here.
He knows this. And depending on how deep he spoke with Bucky, he knows you won’t go back to prison.
“I’ll show you to your quarters. You’ll have your own bathroom and kitchen. Tomorrow morning you will be briefed with your new identity by myself, Bucky, Agent Carter, and Director Fury. F.R.I.D.A.Y will help you with that in the morning.”
The walk was just as miserable as it was when you arrived. You wonder where Bucky is. Does he have a room here? Is he back home in his apartment? Is he coming back? Is he thinking about you? Is he mad that you spit on him?
I mean, probably a little bit. I would be at least.
You take a moment to look around your new room; your new living quarters for pretty much forever. There’s so much stuff; a large bed covered with folded blankets and soft pillows, a folded pair of clothes, a rug beneath your feet that sits under a desk and a large bookshelf, filled with books of differing genres and notebooks, the desk is bare except for a small lamp and a cup of pens and pencil. The kitchenette is to your left and seems to be pretty modern, you can’t imagine it’s missing anything you’d need. The closed door against the wall you assume is your promised bathroom, but you don’t feel like settling in.
It’s strange, living almost all your life with nothing; as a child being poor with your family, having less than that in the Marines, and having nothing in Hydra. When you had your apartment, you had nothing, you cleaned the apartment building to make money to pay your cheap rent, you’d steal your clothes, food, and decorations, everything that Bucky didn’t buy you, anyway.
And now, you’re standing in a room that has everything you’d need, no need to pay rent, supplies and resources at your request; all that’s needed in return is the use of your powers.
But you hate it. All of it.
The colors are dull. The decor is boring. There’s no light. Nothing happy. No colorful blankets, no wacky mugs, no cute earrings, no mismatched socks and labeled underwear with the days of the week. No Bucky.
No Bucky.
