Hockeyplayer!Matt is on the ice, and a guy from the other team says something about his girl, so Matt deals with him
vibe check: based of this edit, violence, fighting descriptions, blood, fluff at the end, lowkey pick me vibes from reader but i don't actually care i love being cringe
1.7k words
A/N: I got a req for hockey matt and didn't see it until i saw that edit... I know some people don't like it but angry!matt makes my coochie tingle
love and cigs, merc
It was weekly occurrence, coming to watch Matt play hockey. Sometimes you were just watching him practice, others you were watching actual games. Today was the latter, his team was playing against the rival college, a game everyone had been waiting for for months.
They had spent weeks working their way up the leagues to finally get into the final stretch against each other, the school rivalry going back decades and either side being riddled with personal beef, some petty, some slightly more serious.
It was half way through the match, Matt had already been given multiple penalties for violent behaviour, slamming kids into the ice and barriers, sometimes because they deserved it, mostly because it was fun.
There was one specific kid on the other team, Josh Anderson, and Matt fucking hated him. They went through all of school together, playing hockey against each other since they could hold a stick. Anderson had always been bigger than Matt, until he had his growth spurt, and he made it his personal mission to make Matts life a living hell purely because he could. They hadn't played against each other in nearly three years, and Matt knew he had to come down hard on him.
They spent the whole first half of the game tormenting each other, pissing each other off in every way possible. Matt had already broken a stick, whacking his first one off the barrier after Anderson got him a penalty for something ridiculous. He was by the sidelines, standing with you as you taped his new stick for him, a tradition you had started even before you started dating.
"I'm gonna fuckin' bury him" Matt said, eyes trained on Anderson as he rubbed small circles on your arm.
You were taping the stick with green tape, your favourite colour, and just letting Matt rant, "he's irrelevant, my love, don't let him get under your skin" you cooed, knowing it would go in one ear and out the other.
"I dunno who he thinks he is, fuckin' pussy always coming after me like I wont break his jaw" Matt wasn't listening to you, but you didn't mind, you knew what he was like when he got in the zone for hockey, especially when he was pissed off.
You finished taping up his stick, scanning it with a satisfied hum and handing it to him, catching his attention. He looked to you with a clenched jaw that relaxed the moment he looked in your soft eyes.
"thanks, baby" Matt smiled, leaning over the barriers slightly to kiss you before pulling his helmet over his head properly and putting in his mouth guard.
He pushed away, skating across the ice to take his place, waiting for the second half buzzer to go off. As it did, he pointed to you, followed by a double tap on his chest plate, one for every year you'd been together.
The game began, and they didn't hold back at all. Matt was angrier than ever, and knowing that only made Anderson more eager to piss him off. They played for about ten minutes before the score shifted in the other teams favour. Anderson skated across the ice, celebrating a goal he didn't even score and b-lined for Matt, skating past him and maintaining eye contact through their helmets.
"Yo, Sturniolo, when we win, tell your girl I want her on her knees for me in the locker rooms as my trophy" Anderson said, his tone smug as a sly grin formed on his face.
A hot rage flooded through Matt, every once of anger boiling to the surface as he watched Anderson skate around him, taunting him to do something. His jaw clenched tight, and he saw red.
Matt threw his stick on the ice, bounding over to Anderson and pushing him backwards, sending him flying back onto the ice. Everyone in the stadium gasped in sync, and you immediately stood to your feet.
"you wanna say shit about my girl? huh? say it again, I fuckin' dare you" Matt spat, pulling out his mouth guard and standing over Anderson on the ice.
Anderson just laughed, pushing himself to his feet and pulling his mouth guard out.
"still that same angry little kid, aren't you Sturniolo?" He grinned, pressing his tongue to his teeth.
"yeah, I am, and you're still the same fuckin' loser you were back then, so come on, Anderson, say something about my girl again" Matt said, squaring up to the boy, who was once double his height, that he was now eye to eye with.
Everyone in the stadium had stopped, time standing still as the whole room watched the disaster in front of them unfold, not even the ref was getting involved, knowing from the events of the first half that the boys clearly had something to sort out.
"ion' want your bum ass girl, Sturns, she's probably been passed around the whole team" Anderson chuckled, looking to the boys all standing round in anticipation.
That was all it took, before Anderson could look back, Matts gloves were off, and his fist was connected with the plastic of Andersons helmet, sending it flying across the ice as Matts knuckles connected with Andersons jaw.
Matt sent him flying onto the ice, crawling on top of him and pummelling into him relentlessly. The whole room erupted, people screaming to get Matt off him, Matts team cheering him on and Andersons team berating the ref for not stopping it. No one even tried to get involved, all slightly terrified by the sight of Matt denting the ice with the back of Andersons skull. You on the other hand, were begging security to let you on the ice, moving in a flash the moment you saw Matt take his gloves off
Matt was relentless, and Anderson was just as bad, hitting Matt back the best he could. There was a split second where Anderson was on top of Matt, laying into him and cracking the plastic face shield off the bridge of his nose. Matt simply smiled with blood covered teeth, just before cocking his head forward, head butting Anderson with the plastic of his helmet, and the next thing you knew, Matt was back on top of him, punching him over and over again.
You finally got onto the ice, struggling to walk straight as you screamed Matts name over and over again. He couldn't hear you, he was in a world of his own, laying into the nearly unconscious boy beneath him.
"Matt!" You screamed, grabbing his arm as he raised it once more to hit Anderson with a final blow.
Your touch brought Matt back to reality, his attention snapping to you immediately. His eyes were bloodshot, a bruise already forming on his definitely broken nose as bright red blood began to dry on the lower half of his face. The look of pleading on your face, the tears pricking in your eyes and your grip on Matts wrist, made all the muscles in his body relax.
"stop, please" you said, softly.
Matt looked up at you, brows flinching slightly before he looked down to Andersons groaning, stuttering body on the ice, and then back to you. You lowered your head slightly, looking at Matt through your lashes with pleading eyes. He couldn't help but crumble, getting up off the ice and near enough melting into your arms.
Your hands round his shoulders, his arms round your waist and head buried in your neck, you just stood their on the ice for what felt like forever, rubbing Matts back with slow touches as everyone began to tend to Anderson.
"lets go, yeah?" you muttered to Matt, and he nodded into your neck.
In the locker rooms,
Matt sat on the bench opposite you, his broken helmet next to him as you perched on the bench, patting the blood from his face with a damp, warm towel. He hissed with every touch, and you apologised softly nearly every time.
"that was really fucking stupid, Matt" You said, looking at his bloodied features intently.
Matt sighed, "I know" He scanned over your face as you gently cared for him.
"you could get kicked from the team" You said, shaking your head slightly
Matt hissed as you brushed his bruised and blooded nose with the towel, "I know" he repeated.
"so then why did you do it?" You asked, only a small once of judgement in your tone.
"he said shit about you" Matt admitted
You stopped your movements, pulling your eyes from Matts nose to lock eyes with him. He was already looking at you, eyes sad like a puppy. You sighed, shaking your head as an uncontrollable half smile formed on your face.
Matts bloodied hand came to your jaw, cupping your cheek in his big hand as his thumb rubbed the soft skin there.
"he started speaking about you, and - and I just lost it" Matt said, his tone soft.
You leaned into his touch, brows furrowed slightly as your eyes poured into his bright blue ones, flitting between them.
"the kid has basically bullied me my whole life, and now I'm finally just as big as he is, I jus-" Matt sighed, "I needed a reason to batter him, and he gave me one"
"me?" you questioned with tight knit brows
Matt nodded, pressing his thumb into your skin with more pressure, "you're the most important thing in my life, more than any stupid place on the team or petty childhood beef, n' I can handle him comin' for me, I don't give a fuck, but he came for you and-" frustrated tears started to form in his eyes, so he stopped talking.
You practically melted at the sight, pressing a long kiss into Matts palm,
"I love you" you said, softly.
Matt smiled slightly, despite the pain it caused him and brought your head to his lips, pressing a short kiss onto your forehead.
"I love you more" Matt replied.
Normally, you would have gotten into a twenty minute long back and forth about who loved who more, but today, Matt had earned rights to that title, and even though the way he handled the situation wasn't ideal, at least you knew you never had to doubt his love for you.

༺═──────────────═༻
The game is going okay. Right now, the Leafs are up 2-1 against rival Boston. Her brother has assists on both Toronto goals while Matthew scored the go-ahead goal about halfway through the third. The Leafs defense is playing great defense and blocking shots from the Bruins. The forwards are keeping Boston from getting any momentum when they hop over the boards for each shift.
This is probably the best the Leafs have looked all season against a surging Boston team that struggled at the beginning of the season.
It's not long after Matthew scores the go-ahead goal that Boston begins to show some frustration. Their physical players begin to get a little more physical, laying more hits on the Leafs players. The Leafs are taking those hits like champs and some are returning the same physicality.
Until Brad Marchand lays a hard hit on Matt and he lands awkwardly on his outstretched arm. Her boyfriend curls up on the ice around the arm he landed on and a whistle is blown. A member of the training staff is immediately on the ice to look at Matthew.
She stands up with the crowd around her, hands covering her mouth as she waits for Matt to stand up. The crowd at Scotiabank Arena is so quiet, she should hear a pin drop from the other side of the stands.
It feels like an eternity later when Matt gets up on his own. The crowd claps for him, but she's too focused on the fact that he's holding his left arm close to his body. Mitch skates right behind him with his stick, which is hands to the equipment manager while Matthew goes down the tunnel.
With about five minutes left in the period and the Leafs up in the game, she makes her way down to the hallway that contains the in-arena gym, locker room, equipment room, and the athletic training room where Matt probably is.
She shows her credentials before she's let into the hallway. The horn on the ice sounds and the crowd cheers, signaling either a goal or a Leafs win. She's not sure how much time has gone by by the time she is standing outside the training room door.
After knocking lightly, she pushes open the door a little bit to get a look at her boyfriend. She sees Matthew on one of the tables half undressed. He only has on his shorts, socks, and skates. His gear is on the floor with his jersey and compression shirt.
The doctor notices her before Matt does. "Sorry, but you can't be he-"
"It's fine," Matt winces as the doctor presses on his wrist. "She's here for me anyway. Come on in, (Y/N)."
She steps into the medical room and walks up to Matt on the table. His doctor keeps pressing on and examining his wrist. He has Matt wiggle his fingers, tests his wrist flexion, and he finds the most painful points.
All while Matt winces in pain. A second horn goes off and the crowd above them cheers. The song that usually plays after a Leafs win starts to play, which means the boys will be making their way back to the locker room any second.
"Well, good news is that your wrist isn't broken," the doctor explains to Matt. "But I do think you have a mild sprain. I'd like to get scans done in the morning to confirm."
"And how long will I be out?" Matt asks.
"With rest and recovery, two weeks minimum," his doctor replies. "If you come back too early, it could be longer so I suggest staying off the ice until I clear you to return to practice. We'll come back and reassess a week from tomorrow once I confirm the sprain then come up with a plan to return to play. Until then, rest. I'll give you a brace you can use for the next few days."
Matt nods and the doctor walks off to find a brace that he'll use for a while. She intertwines her fingers with his as soon as the doctor has his back turned to them. He looks up at her with big, sad eyes. She frowns at the sight of a sad Matthew Knies.
This is a risky moment for both of them given where they're at, but she couldn't help but touch him and show him that she's here for him since she can't say anything right now. Not with the team doctor ten feet away from them.
The doctor turns around and she pulls their fingers apart. Matt holds out his injured wrist so the doctor can show him how to put the brace on. "How does it feel?" he asks Matt. "Not too snug?"
"Nope," he replies. "Comfortable."
"Good," the doctor says. "I want to see you back here in the morning for some x-rays and other tests to rule out breaks or internal damage. Okay?"
Matt nods and the doctor claps him on the back. He leaves the room, probably to go tell the coaching staff about his injury. Matt sighs and reaches to grab his compression shirt when he hops off the table.
She glances at the door to make sure no one walks in before she pulls Matthew into a hug by his torso once his shirt is on.
"I'm so sorry you got hurt, Matty," she softly says into his chest. "That hit looked bad. It could've been so much worse. I'm so glad it wasn't."
"I'm still benched for at least a week," Matt sighs. He runs his fingers through her wavy locks before he cradles her head against his body. "I'll be staying here while the boys go out on that west coast roadie. I was looking forward to some California sun after a few inches of snow over the weekend."
There's a hint of amusement in his voice, but she doesn't find it very funny. She peels her face off his chest and looks up at him. "It's not funny, Matthew," she tells him. "You got hurt. You avoided what may have been a season ending injury, but you still got hurt. None of this is very funny to me, and you're cracking jokes about missing out on the California sun."
He realizes what his words were and quickly becomes apologetic. "I'm sorry, baby," he says. "No injury is funny, even one as minor as mine."
"I thought you were really hurt, Matty," she admits. "When you were down on the ice. I thought that something was broken or torn while you were lying there. What if this was worse than a wrist sprain and you were making jokes about missing games?"
Matthew's healthy hand slides to cup her face. He rubs his thumb along her cheekbone and frowns. "I'm okay," he whispers to her. "I'm okay. Nothing is torn or broken or dislocated. It's just a sprain. It's not season ending and I'll be back on the ice in a week. It just sucks that I'm out at all."
She presses her face back into his chest and he engulfs her in a hug. He buries his head into her hair and presses a kiss to her temple. "You're okay," she echoes. "Thank God you're okay."
He softly hums into her hair. She looks up at him at the same time he tilts her head up. Matthew leans down since his skates give him a little extra inches to his six-foot-three frame. Their lips meet in a soft kiss when she gets on her tiptoes. Her hands grasp at his shorts to give her some stablity.
They stand like that longer than they probably should, but she can't help but kiss him. All her anxiety about the last fifteen minutes melt away the longer the kiss goes.
The door opens and she hears her brother's voice. "How you doing in here, Kniesy?" Mitch questions. They both jump away from each other and look at Mitch, who stops in his tracks when he sees his little sister in the training room with his teammate. "(Y/N), why are you-- with Matthew? Kissing Matthew?"
She quickly looks between her brother and her boyfriend. "I, um ..." she trails off. Then Mitch angrily starts toward the two of them with a look in his eyes that she's seen before when the two of them caught an ex cheating on her. "Mitchy, stop." She tries to push against him with little success.
"My little sister?" Mitch asks as he shoves Matthew. "Are you kidding me?" Matt stumbles backward a little bit since he's still in his skates. She grabs at Mitch's t-shirt to try and stop him, but he overpowers her for a second time.
"Mitch," she tries again. "Enough. I'm an adult. I'm allowed to be with whoever I want to be with."
Mitch looks back at her. "This is my teammate, (Y/N)," he tells her. "My goddamn linemate most games, and you're in here kissing him? He's one of my closest friends and you're, what, hooking up with him behind my back?"
"It's not like that-" Matthew tries to say.
"And you," Mitch interrupts. "My little fucking sister. I trusted you and you go and do something like this? Are you actually kidding me? God, I can't believe you. Either of you. Do you know how embarrassing this is for me? That my sister and one of my teammates snuck around my best for who knows how long. Snuck around at my house, my second home."
She looks at Matt, who looks genuinely terrified of what's happening right now. "Mitch, can you listen to me for a second before you start talking about something you know nothing about?" she asks. "There is a lot more to this story than you think."
Her brother rubs his face and shakes his head. "I don't think there's anything you can tell me that I don't already know-"
"I am in love with him, Mitch!" she shouts. "We're not just hooking up or anything like that. We're actually together. I love him and he loves me. If you would listen instead of assuming things then you'd know that."
It looks like someone slapped her brother across the face when she admits to him that she loves Matt. His eyes widen and his jaw goes slack. He looks between the two of them. She takes a few steps backward so she's standing beside her boyfriend while her eyes stay on Mitch.
Mitch blinks at them for a second before he says, "I need a little bit. I just need a second before we continue this conversation because I'm beyond angry and feeling very betrayed right now. Do what the two of you want because you're going to do it anyway but please do not talk to me while I'm on this roadie. Okay?"
They both nod and Mitch turns to walk out of the room. She lets out the breath that she was holding before she looks up at Matthew, who has color in his face again.
"We should've told him when we got together," Matt tells her without looking at her. "He's right. He's one of my closest friends and he's my linemate on the ice. I shouldn't have messed with that chemistry. It might affect our on ice performance, which is going to mess with the whole team's performance. Oh my God."
"Matthew," she sighs as she steps in front of him. "Hey. I made that choice too. He's my brother and I thought he'd get angrier if we told him at first. These eight months have shown us that we love each other and that I want this forever. If we told him at first, it wouldn't have given us that chance. I don't regret not telling him because we had that time to ourselves to figure us out. I'll talk to him when he gets back from the roadie and it'll be okay. I promise."
He nods. "I need to go get changed then we can go," he tells her. "Wish me luck that he doesn't throw any of his gear at me in the locker room."
"You have my full permission to throw something back at him."
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
The week and a half that the roadie takes feels like forever. All she can do is watch her brother enter a slump while on the west coast. She respects his wishes and doesn't text or call him while he's on the road, but it's one of the hardest things she's ever had to do.
Matthew gets clears to go non-contact on the ice eight days after the initial injury. Brad Marchand was given a two game suspension and a large fine for intent to injure. At least, that's what the NHL Department of Player Safety announced the day after his hit on Matt. She sits at the Leafs practice building while she watches Matt work on some stickhandling and skating drills by himself.
It's two weeks after the game versus Boston when Mitch reaches out to his little sister.
from: big bro mitchy <3 - 3:09 pm can i come over ? to talk. i think im ready to talk
to: big bro mitchy <3 - 3:11 pm yeah. matt's here too, if that's okay
He doesn't respond, but she lets Matt know that Mitch is coming over to her apartment. They both sit on the couch when a knock announces Mitch's arrival.
She opens the door and Mitch walks into the apartment without a greeting. She's on his heels when he walks into the living room. Matt stands up to face Mitch.
"You better treat her right, Knies," Mitch tells him. She blinks in total confusion. "I mean it, Matt. If I find out that you hurt her in any way, I'll put your ass back on IR faster than you can blink. Got it?" He nods in response. "Now, can I have a few minutes alone with my sister? I have some things I need to say to her and I don't need you in the room while I do."
Matt quickly disappears down the hallway to her bedroom. The door distantly clicks shut and Mitch turns to her. She stands straight up as she faces her brother.
They look at each other for a second before she concedes first. "I am so sorry that neither of us told you about our relationship," she says. "But I'm going to tell you that I don't regret not telling you. Matt and I needed some time to figure out how we work together before we told anyone. Then we were together longer and longer and we thought you would be so mad that we didn't tell you-"
"Oh, I'm mad alright," Mitch interrupts her. "I mean, there are millions of people in the Toronto area that you could've started a relationship with. There are hundreds of players in the league itself and you chose to enter a relationship with my linemate of all people."
"You're angry because I'm dating someone on your team? she asks. "Of all the reasons to be angry, you're mad because I fell in love with Matt? Mitch, that's you're fault. You're the one that introduced us because Matt was a rookie in a big city and I'm about as old as he is. You thought that we could lean on each other since I also had just moved to Toronto to pursue a career."
"I didn't think you'd date him," Mitch retorts. "Let alone fall in love with him."
She rolls her eyes. "I can't help who I fall in love with and you should know that," she spits at him.
Mitch sighs and rubs his face. "I'm just trying to look out for you," he tells her. "You're my little sister."
"And he's one of your closest friends so you should know what kind of guy he is," she replies. "I'm 23, Mitch. I don't need you looking out for me. Believe me when I say that I very hesitantly started a relationship with Matt because I know how hockey players can be. He quickly showed me that he's not like other hockey players. He genuinely loves me, more than any of my previous boyfriends ever have."
Her brother frowns at her. "I just wish I could have watched you fall in love," he explains. "And know you were falling in love. I only find out you're in love and in a very serious relationship months later. I don't want to know how many months later but months later. It sucks not being able to watch my little sister grow up and find love until after."
Okay, she never thought of it like that. She never thought that it took away an opportunity for Mitch to watch her grow up a little bit, or find love. He was there for all her other relationships. Why not this one?
"I'm sorry, Mitchy," she softly tells him. "I really am. I don't want you to be mad because this is the best relationship I've ever been in. I'm sorry I took away watching me fall in love, but I didn't want to fall in love under the close eye of my older brother. Especially not when my boyfriend is his teammate. I needed to find me and how I worked with Matt. That's it. That's why neither of us told you."
He wraps his arms around her shoulders and envelopes her in a hug. She sighs and wraps his arms around his torso. "I could never be mad at you for very long," he admits. "I needed some time to think about what I was going to say to you when I calmed down. I didn't want to say something I might regret. I get why neither of you told me now."
"We wanted to so many times but it was never the right time," she says. "We were going to say something before the end of last season, then you were so focused on playoffs that we couldn't. Then the Boston series happened, and that wasn't the best time either. Then it was the offseason and we decided to wait even longer. Then this season started and it never seemed like the best time because the two of you had some great on ice chemistry. So we waited and waited until it was too late and it never felt like the right time."
Her brother backs away the hug and looks her in the eyes. "I don't want you to ever not tell me something because you think hockey is in the way," he sternly tells her. "I mean it. You're way more important than hockey will ever be. If you have something to tell me, then tell me next time, okay?"
She nods in response. "Got it," she softly says.
"By the way, I kind of knew something was up with you because you were around a lot more often than you were before," Mitch admits. "But you were always wearing my jersey so I thought it was because you really liked watching hockey. I had no idea it was because you were dating Matt. It makes sense looking back on it now."
A laugh passes her lips before she can stop it. "Hate to break it to you but it was because of Matt," she tells him. "I didn't wear his jersey because that would've meant telling you, which neither of us were ready for."
Mitch smiles at her. "I know," he says. "You look happy. I've never seen you this happy or in love before. It looks good on you, little sister."
"Thank you, big brother," she replies. "Can Matt come out now or are you going to give him the big brother talk?"
"Oh, I'll give that to him in the locker room," he laughs. "I'll tell you that you're allowed to wear his jersey now since I know. You've probably wanted to wear it before so you can now."
"Awesome," she says. "I've worn your jersey for too long. It's Matt's turn."
Footsteps echo down the hallway before they emerge into the living room. "I wasn't eavesdropping or anything but I heard that I could come out," Matt's voice says behind her. She turns her head and looks at her boyfriend. "Are we okay?"
Mitch walks up to her boyfriend and Matt sharply inhales. Her older brother holds out his hand. "We're good," he tells his linemate. "We're going to have our own talk though because that is my little sister you are involved with."
"Understood," Matt replies.
With a huge smile on her face, she runs up to Matt and wraps herself around his torso. "My favorite boys are friends again," she says as she looks up at Matt. "And you're no longer my little secret."
"I better be the first person you tell when you put a ring on her finger, Knies," Mitch warns. "Or bad things will happen."
"I'll come to you and ask for your permission to marry her if it'll make you feel better," Matt replies. "When we eventually get to that point."
"Good," her brother says. "I'll get out of your hair. I just wanted to come talk to you guys for a second. I'm going out with Steph for an early dinner but I didn't want you guys to think I hated you."
The boys give their version of a hug goodbye. Mitch presses a kiss to her temple before leaving. She looks at Matt.
"Feel better?" she asks. "Knowing it's not going to mess with your on ice chemistry now?"
"A little."
"What will help you feel even better?"
"I think you already know." Matt takes a step backward down the hall that leads to her bedroom.
She grins. "I like the way you think, Kniesy."

Oh, those prompts are so good! If you’re inspired, either 21. listening to someone’s heartbeat or 23. wearing someone’s clothes for Buck/Tommy? Thank you!
He's so fucking tired, is the thing. He's tired, and he's cranky, and this shift had taken ages to end, so when he sees the slash of bright bright blue bleeding out of his duffle and knows immediately what it is, something soft and achy blooms in his chest, and he ignores the subtle eyebrow from Lucy when he pulls it out.
The problem is she's seen Evan in this sweatshirt, less than a week ago when he'd dragged everyone out to trivia, when they'd all been well rested and happy to pepper Evan with stories about Tommy and the more sedate hijinks that Harbor station gets up to. Tommy ignores her look and shrugs it over his shoulders, dragging his head through the neck hole and not minding too much when the hood goes crooked, half stuck in his hair as he gets a wash of pleasant smells - Evan's aftershave, the detergent he uses, a hint of musk, Christ, he'd tucked it in to Tommy's bag unwashed like he knew exactly how much Tommy would want that.
Tommy does his level best not to look like he's huffing glue as he adjusts the hood around the back of his neck.
Donato bites her lip. Sighs, heavily. "Did you steal that, or are you guys in the part of the courting ritual where you do this exhausting shit on purpose just to point out how single the rest of us are?"
Tommy sends a half-hearted glare her way, gets another whiff of aftershave and tries his absolute hardest not to sigh like a lovelorn idiot. He's maybe half successful.
"You are choosing to be single. You have a great guy who'd absolutely love to lock you down, Donato." Tommy stuffs his hands into the front pocket and cocks a hip, and Donato frowns.
"He likes me too much. Don't trust it."
His huff of laughter cuts through the quiet of the locker room. "Hate to break it to you, Luce, but you kinda gotta open yourself up to the possibility of someone enjoying your company, if you want a glimpse at annoying, exhausting, stupid relationship shit."
"I'm trying to mock you, not get relationship advice from your domestically blissed ass."
It's not the first time someone has pointed out Tommy's supposed blissful status, but his body and his mind are so fucking tired and there are apparently, if Evan's last text is to be believed, a couple good cuts of steak seasoned and waiting for Tommy to fire up the grill at home. Which means there is also a man waiting for him there, too, a man with seemingly limitless energy and pockets of technically useless information, a man with silver-cast blue eyes and a birthmark over his brow that Tommy wants to bite every time he catches a glimpse of it out of the corner or his eye, a man he'd given his spare key months too soon just because he liked the idea of coming home to him, liked the idea of him creeping in while Tommy was passed out across his bed or shifting tools around in his garage or -
"Ugh. Gross. I'm leaving, now, tell Buck I said hi."
Tommy isn't actually sure he's going to do that, because he's just realized something that takes precedent, and no offense to Lucy, but she's already wormed her way into one of Evan's defining relationship moments and he's not giving her this one.
He waves her off and shoots Evan a text to let him know he's on his way.
Going home right away doesn't feel right, actually, now that he's thinking about it. He should get flowers, or - maybe learn a foreign language. How much Spanish have Christopher and Eddie taught Evan? Does Jee have some event he could crash?
(Tommy would like to point out that while he hasn't quite said it in words, he's not exactly upset about the way he and Evan are maybe a little batshit insane about each other. If Evan doesn't have any complaints, he's not going to put a damper on it, either.)
The drive home gives him enough time to talk himself down from hiring a skywriter, his cab awash in the scent of the armor-all Evan had spilled in it last week when he got distracted from 'helping' Tommy clean, the hints of scent from the hoodie that's maybe a little tight around the shoulders but still a perfect fit. For him. For Tommy.
Fuck. He should at least get the flowers.
Tommy makes himself keep driving. He's delirious with exhaustion, actually, that's why he keeps overthinking this, there's a steak dinner and a beautiful man waiting for him at home and Evan had probably gotten flowers at the market anyway. Because he does that, constantly, to the point that Tommy had run out of vases to keep them all in.
Tommy sits in the cab once he pulls in and tries hard not to romanticize the idea of Evan's Jeep looking right at home in the spot next to his.
Evan greets him at the door with a wide grin, a spoon in one hand, the other held under it to keep from spilling. "Taste," he says as a greeting, and Tommy opens his mouth more for the pleasure of seeing Evan's eyes light than any expectation for what's being put there.
Cucumber, vinegar, dill - he moans around the mouthful and barely chews before he swallows, suddenly intent to get his mouth on Evan's mouth. His duffle lands in the entryway with a thunk and he gets two hands into the hem of Evan's shirt, intent on tugging him in. "Hi," he says, and swallows whatever greeting Evan tries to return.
When they come up for air Tommy's pulse is racing, Evan is breathing heavily, and he's pretty sure there is a spoon tucked into his back pocket, left there when Evan slung his arm back to get a handful of Tommy's ass.
"Hi," he says, finally, eyes lingering on the neckline of the jacket he'd snuck into Tommy's bag.
The significance of the moment finally catches up to Tommy - the memory something Tommy sometimes falls back on when he gets too in his head about where this is going - stumbling through the emergency room doors with the leers of exhausted firefighters echoing in his ears, Evan a vision in blue (this blue) barely letting him get an apology out before trying to eat his face off in front of three amused nurses.
"Hey," Tommy says, feeling the day just slough off of him. His left hand has tucked itself neatly between Evan's impressive pectorals, and he contemplates, for a moment, just saying fuck it to the steaks and shoving him back until he can press Evan to his sheets, blanket himself atop him, press his cheek there instead of his hand and listen to the steady beat.
Evan blinks back at him, his eyes doing something unbearably sweet, and Tommy has to tell him, he really, absolutely does, only -
"I'm in love with you," Evan says, laughing a little breathlessly once the words are out, hands pressing in at Tommy's waist, a sort of wondrous expression leaking in around his smile lines.
Tommy should maybe feel like the wind has been ripped from his sails, but the fever-pitch beat of his heart won't let him.
"Y-you don't have to, like, say it back. I just. God I like you so much but I'm also - I love you," he repeats, or amends, or - there's something settled, in his expression, like just saying it was enough, like he doesn't expect Tommy to feel the same.
Tommy waits a beat. Slides the hand on his chest up over the rasp of his end-of-day stubble, thumbing the crook of his chin, fingers dancing over his cheekbone. "Evan," he says, sounding a little breathless, which should be embarrassing but Tommy doesn't care, and Evan's gaze catches and holds as he waits for whatever Tommy has to say next

STARBOY
-> Pairing: shōta aizawa / sub! (trans) male reader
-> Request: yes / no
-> Word Count: 1K (roughly)
➷...Summary: shō offers a helping hand (more like mouth) when you're in need.
-> Notes: not the fic that was meant to be posted this week but seeing as that one is yet to be completed i thought i would post this request in the meantime!
➷...Content Warnings: vaginal descriptions, use of the word cunt, mentions of testosterone, exhibition, age gap (though not specified, both are adults), coach/athlete trope(?), oral (reader receiving), squirting, being caught masturbating, biting, at some point it is implied that shō may have a negative reaction to the reader being trans but he does not. if i miss anything let me know.
“You've got to be—holy shit, this can’t be real.” He grunts, his voice a gravelly whisper amongst the sound of sneakers frantically shuffling across the court. Jesus. His free hand immediately goes to his mess of black hair, strumming his calloused fingers through the stray strands clinging to his sweaty forehead.
It’s a lost cause — it’s all a fucking lost cause. This team is the last nail in the coffin that was Shōta Aizawa’s career as an athlete.
The corners of his lips can’t help but curl upwards at that thought. An athlete? Maybe some ridiculously delusional part of himself still had a shred of his youthful shamelessness. He is, and has been, a disgrace for quite some time now.
His days of being a household name are long gone. You’ve taken his place now, haven’t you? You’re a good player, a team player, and not too hard on the eyes either.
Shō’s had his eyes on you for a while now. You’ve come a long way since he first saw you handing out water bottles to the members of your team. Now you’re destroying his team on the court. It takes every ounce of self-control in him to not laugh. Funny how the world works, right?
Shōta Aizawa prides himself on how mature he is. He’s not going to pick a fight with you. You’re half his age for crying out loud. He’s above that because he’s incredibly mature; As most people his age would be.
So, it’s purely coincidental that he’s in the same locker room as you. He just happened to take a wrong turn when attempting to find his team. As their coach, it’s his duty to comfort them after such a…horrific loss. But accidents happen and he couldn’t just waltz in here without conversing with you. What if you misunderstood and painted him out to be some kind of pervert? It’s only right that he makes small talk.
But the words that were at the tip of his tongue disappeared in an instant. Perhaps his critical thinking skills have gone along with it. Well, this is quite the turn of events, isn’t it?
“…In all my years of playing this damn game,” He cocks his head sideways, and the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. “I’ve never found it remotely arousing.” He says pointedly, clicking his tongue. Your skin warms.
You open and close your mouth once, twice, and then a third time but no words slide past those ridiculously beautiful lips of yours. Shō doesn’t even try to hide the fact that he’s staring. “Each to their own,” He shrugs and you want nothing more than the floor to swallow you whole.
“I…” You start, scrambling to find the right words to say. But in a situation like this, what could you say? The coach of the opposing team just walked in on you with your hands down your pants. Not a good look.
“Wh–What are you even doing in here, first of all?” You counter, fighting a heated blush as you not-so-discreetly pull your hand out of your shorts. Fingers coated in your arousal fluid.
Silence, then a moment later he deadpans, “Got lost, and then walked in on you…doing whatever it is that you were doing.” And before you can stop yourself, “It’s the testosterone, I can’t help it, alright?” you dig yourself into a deeper hole.
Shō blinks at you, once, twice, and then a third time. It’s like you’re taking turns leaving one another speechless. Before his mouth forms something of an ‘O’ shape. You grimace, bracing yourself for this embarrassing situation to take an even worse turn. But it doesn’t.
“Jesus,” He curses, more so to himself, and then takes a deep breath. “I can leave so you can finish—” He stops himself, sounding embarrassed, “…or I can help you with that problem of yours.”
“Go—You can go ahead,” you say, swallowing hard. Everyone has their needs, you remind yourself.
Shō’s gaze meets yours momentarily, silently requesting your approval once more. You nod, turning your head to the side as you lay on one of the benches, your legs spread. Dripping cunt on full display.
He lowers his face in between your legs without hesitation, warm breath tickling your sensitive thighs. As his teeth gently graze the fat of your thighs. He takes his time, gently nipping at your thighs before trailing light kisses up either one. Stopping just short of your drooling hole.
It’s torture, really. The way he alternates between light kisses, gentle nips, and then full-on sucking hickeys onto your inner thighs. Always stopping short of your cunt.
The rough pads of his fingers dig into the skin of your hips as he holds you in place. He’s a lot stronger than he looks. His tongue lapped at your thighs covered in arousal fluid. It’s like he’s never tasted anything sweeter and you squirm, utterly embarrassed. Embarrassed by how wet it makes you; Embarrassed by the sounds you’re both making.
After what felt like hours—You don’t know, you’ve lost track of time. His mouth moves from your thighs to your glistening labia. He presses a kiss to your outer lips, taking his time to spread them, before licking a fat stripe over your labia. You feel yourself tremble, biting down on your lower lip to stifle your moans. There are still people outside. But you’d be lying if you said that didn’t make it all the more exciting.
And then it happens without warning — his tongue breaches your entrance. Your eyes flutter closed, and you knit your brows together when you feel him squeezing your clit in between the rough pads of his fingers. It’s all so perfect. He’s dragged this out for far too long.
He’s so good to you. Your legs are shaking but he holds you in place with one hand as he laps at your sopping-wet cunt like it’s his last meal. You can feel your orgasm creep up on you and oh when it does, you’re squirting. Spraying your juices all over his face, and he doesn’t protest in the slightest. He pulls away, lips quirking, and licks what’s left on his face contently.

Drunken Mistakes
Prompt: You get too drunk one night and embarrass yourself in front of your captain.
Part 2
Trafalgar Law X Fem Reader
“Oh come on y/n!! We’re finally on land! Lets go have some fun,” Ikkaku begged you. She noticed you taking pajamas out of your locker over something to wear out.
“You know I don’t party,” You say over your shoulder, unzipping your jumpsuit. As the only 2 women on board, you two shared a rather large room, you even had full-size beds over the twin bunk beds the men shared in their rooms, which housed 4 people to a room. Law was nice enough to provide everyone with their own personal desk and locker.
Ikkaku placed a hand on her hip, “That’s the point! You’re not going to party but you can watch me to make sure I don’t do anything stupid” She was eager to get of the submarine, it had been a month since they had last been on land, and Captain said they’d be staying for a week or two as everyone was getting a little ship madness stuck inside. “Come on! Please?” She walked up beside you and started rummaging through your clothes before pulling out a rather revealing romper.
She wiggled it in front of you before you sighed, “Alright, but I’m only watching your sorry ass from the side lines. We can’t have you getting lost now.” You grab the romper and think about how even when you have time to wear anything, you still choose clothes that are like the crews jumpsuit.
~~~
The island was fun, there was an entire street full of bars to choose from, each just as rowdy, loud, and addictive as the last. Ikkaku finally decided on one and you couldn’t help but wonder if she pre-planned this when she squeals and runs up to the two familiar faces of Penguin and Shachi.
“Heyyyy You got Y/N out of your guys room, How’d you manage that?” Penguin happily yelled as you sat down across from them.
Shachi and Penguin gave each other a look before getting their notorious smiles, this could only mean one thing. And absolutely awful idea that they’d be insistent on. Before you could retreat from the crew's pranksters they flank either side of you, place their hands on your shoulders, making sure you stay sitting. “Y/N why don’t you relax a little bit,” Shachi said putting an empty mug in front of you.
“Yea, come on Y/N you haven’t let loose in a longgg time,” Penguin grinned as he poured some liquor into the glass. It had been a couple of months since you drank last, but you also got absolutely shit-faced that last time and can’t remember much of the night other than Bepo having to carry you back to the ship and Ikkaku holding your hair up as you puked.
“You know I’m on watch tomorrow morning, I can’t drink tonight,” You thought up an excuse as quick as they had started their shenanigans.
“But Y/N… It’s Jean Bart's turn to watch tomorrow, you’re on duty in 3 days,” Ikkaku blurted out, remembering the schedule I had hung in our room, she had a wicked smile on her.
“You guys planned this didn’t you,” You sigh as you relent a little bit, taking hold of the glass in front of you and you can hear Penguin let out a small giggle, he had been drunk before you even walked in. “No more than 4 drinks. A round per person,” You chug the liquid in the mug as the three cheer around you, accomplishing their mission.
~~~
You hadn’t realized how tense you’d been lately until the liquid forced you to relax. After the 4th round, Shachi had suggested going to a different bar, one with a much better selection of booze and you decided to continue drinking.
“Y/N you’ve been working so hard recently, we’re glad you’re finally relaxing a bit,” Penguin murmured from where his head had rested on his arm still holding a glass half drunk. You giggle a bit at the display before taking the glass and finishing the rum, Shachi was still quite Sober compared to either you and Penguin, and Ikkaku was still off grabbing another round for the table.
You leaned forward on the table, your cleavage becoming all the more evident, “Well Sachi! I think you should take a penalty drink!” You Grin at him, you’d never been able to pronounce his name correctly once you started drinking.
“Oh? And what, Pray-tell, is this penalty for?!” He laughed out also leaning in, never one to back down from a battle.
“You, my good sir,” You pointed towards his chest, “Are still wearing the jumpsuit,” Slurring half the words as Ikkaku sits back down with a tray of drinks.
“You heard the boss, Penalty drink for still wearing uniform,” Ikkaku smiled out handing Shachi a shot glass of god knows what. He sighed defeat and took a shot, “But Y/N that means you need a penalty drink for not covering up your tattoos.”
You look down and around yourself, realizing the romper was just straps and showed off the tattoos on your shoulders and gave a small peak to the larger one on your back, “Thas not fair!” You pouted before grabbing the shot and pounding it back.
~~~
All four of you had returned rather late, all praying that Hakugan, the watch for the night, wouldn’t tell on you, or even worse, the captain was still awake to scold the four of you. It had been well past 3am and Law had always wanted everyone back on the ship by 1am or for them to sleep in hotels at that point.
None of you thought you’d be out this late and none of you wanted to even try to find a hotel, best to just sneak back into your rooms. After all, once you’re close enough to your rooms, you can claim you were just going to the bathroom.
Shachi was holding up Penguin as you and Ikkaku had been supporting each other, trying to hold back any giggling or words as you climbed onboard. The one thing you were jealous of was how close some of the men’s room were to the top of the ship, Your and Ikkaku’s room were toward the bottom so you had to traverse much further than your two crewmates.
Penguin nodded a goodbye and Shachi barely managed to open the door to their room, thankfully, it had seemed as though their roommates had opted to stay out for the night.
Ikkaku makes eye contact with you and you continue to walk towards your quarters, and you both start to giggle. As you get closer to your room you motion for Ikkaku to continue without you, pointing towards the bathroom as explanation.
She looks at you and gives a thumbs up trying to hold back any noise, The Captains room was just slightly further down the hall and we’d be dead if he caught us. You watch as she retreats into the shared room as you slink towards the bathroom.
As soon as you enter the bathroom your met with a blinding light, no doubt left on by Ikkaku from before you two even left, but as you walk further in, reaching out for where the light switch should be (Opting for darkness over the headache inducing light) You bump into something. Or rather, someone. You stop, your hand on the wall, if you had been more sober you’d know you should have felt the light switch by now if this was the girls Bathroom.
“Y/N-ya.” A dry familiar voice rings into your ears as your eyes snap open, staring at the tattooed chest of your captain. “I see you had a fun night.”
You couldn’t register the emotion in your Captains voice and you couldn’t quite sober yourself up, try as you might. “C-captain!” You blurt out peering up, straightening your back and trying not to let the giggle you feel out. The man in front of you was only wearing a towel, rather low on his hips at that and his hair was damp. After a second of holding your breath to try and maintain a serious demeanor the cold hard stare of your captain makes you burst out laughing a bit, stumbling over your feet, “You’re not suppose to be in here~” You point your finger a bit before tapping his toned chest.
Yep, this must have been a dream, you must have passed out somewhere and this was a fantasy. There’s no way your captain would every allow you to touch his bare chest like this. You place both your hands gingerly on the taller mans shoulders before slowly moving them down, taking in the feeling of the toned chest in front of you, “It feels so real,” You murmur under your breath as your hands venture to the mans hips.
Law inhales sharply at the sudden touch. As your hands venture back up to his chest, tracing the outlines of his tattoos his own hands grab hold of yours, stopping any movement, “Are you having fun, Y/N-ya?” He leans down to whisper into your ear.
The voice sends shivers down your spine and you can feel yourself getting excited. “Well if this is a dream…” You murmer before leaning in, attaching yourself to your captains neck. Not even a second later you felt yourself being shoved into the cold metal wall.
Law had pushed you back while also lifting your legs around him and your arms instinctively wrapped around his neck, “I can assure you, Y/N-ya… This is plenty real.” You look up at the captain, registering his words and the slight pain in your head that had barely hit the wall and the sudden realization sobers you up almost immediately. Your eyes widen and you suddenly become hyper aware of the position your in hanging your head to avoid Law’s gaze, “Looks like you’re finally awake.”
Replacement Part 6
A/N: I don’t have much to say… hi yall… I’m working on doing better with writing but it’s still rough.
You hadn’t expected to become acquaintance with Jessie, and you definitely hadn’t expected to become friends with her, and yet here you were, just a few weeks after you had gone over to her house for the first time the two of you were friends.
The morning after your dinner and talk, you had again decided to grab a coffee, picking up Jessie and Janine both one this time. Much to your surprise, when you walked into the locker room, there was a coffee already sitting in your cubby.
As you walked over Jessie looked up at you, giving you a quick smile before her eyes fell to the tray of coffees you were balancing. She laughed softly before standing up to take the tray from you so you could put down the rest of your belongings.
“Guess we had the same idea, huh?” She says when you finally take your headphones off, putting them in your backpack before hanging it in the locker
“Yeah, I guess. Maybe we should start scheduling our coffee runs.” You say it as a joke, it’s meant to just fill the air but Jessie doesn’t see it that way.
“Or we could go together?” Jessie’s words come out and you feel your stomach drop. Your mind drifts back to Sam’s teasing, the mention of the crush, all of it.
“To get coffee?” You add quickly after realizing you’d be standing in silence just looking at the Canadian.
“In the mornings, I just figured since we live close enough, we could walk together? I’m a little surprised we didn’t run into each other this morning going there.”
“Oh I mean, you obviously were there before me.” You said, intentionally dodging Jessie’s offer. You had to admit the sweet girl in front of you had grown on you, more than you’d like to admit. She was funny, easy going, she cared about your interests, you had started to enjoy her company.
Was this a date invitation? If it was you’d have to say no. But you didn’t know if it was, maybe it was just friendly, maybe Sam was wrong. Jessie didn’t seem to mind you dismissing her question, she didn’t ask again, just nodding and sipping the coffee you had brought her, abandoning the half drank one she bought herself.
You didn’t think again about her offer to get coffee until a week later.
It was an off weekend so when training ended Friday everyone was in a rush to leave and start their free weekend. Everyone except you. You had to go get your stitches removed, something you had been dreading since they were put in.
“Hey, what are you still doing here?” You ask when you see Jessie sitting in the ice bath despite training ending nearly an hour ago. You can’t help but let your eyes drift lower than normal, she was standing in waist deep water, just in her sports bra. Her toned stomach and arms on display. You quickly snap out of your admiring, reminding yourself that you weren’t attracted to her, you just wanted your body to look like hers.
She looks up and smiles seeing you. “I could ask you the same, but I was just doing some extra running, so I’m just late on my recovery.”
“Stitches are supposed to come out today.” You point to your cheek before the team doctor comes out from his office. He lets you know he’ll be right with you, you make your way to the table to sit down.
As you sit down you hear Jessie climb out of the ice bath. You glance over and watch as she grabs a towel, wrapping it around her waist. She tucks it, leaving her midsection exposed to the air. Your attention gets pulled to the doctor in front of you as he places down a tray of tools next to you.
He starts looking at your face and out of the corner of your eye you see Jessie hovering a few feet away. She’s standing looking at you as the doctor looks at your cheek. “Alright, looks good, we’ll go ahead numb you up and get them pulled out.”
He discards his gloves and moves to fill out paperwork. That’s when Jessie moves closer. “Want a hand?” You look at her, making eye contact with her soft brown eyes, the sweet smile across her face has your knees weak for a second.
“Oh, no, it’s fine, you can go ahead and go, I don’t want to keep you here any longer.” You brush her offer off. The doctor comes back, syringe in hand which causes your stomach to tighten and your eyes to widen. You swallow hard and begin to lay down how you had when you had gotten the stitches put in.
Jessie must’ve noticed your visible nerves to the syringe. She doesn’t leave she instead finds herself back standing by your head. She doesn’t say anything but places a hand out which you take embarrassingly quickly. Her hand was a welcomed distraction from the pinch in your cheek, an even nicer distraction was the view of her toned stomach in front of you. Within a few minutes the doctor tells you you’re done and you sit up, finally clearing your mind from the thought of Jessie’s midsection.
She didn’t know you had been staring, but you felt like she knew, you felt your face burn slightly red.
“You alright? You look flushed.” Jessie says still holding your hand.
“Yeah I’m good.” You drop her hand. “Thank you, again. You really didn’t have to do that.”
“I know, but we’re friends.” She shrugs. “Your hand was less sweaty this time.”
“God that’s embarrassing.” You cover your face.
Jessie turns and heads out to the locker room, you follow having to still pack up your gear. “No, I’m just teasing you, they weren’t really sweaty either time.”
“Liar.” You smile at her, knowing she’s just being too nice.
She just turns and shrugs, a small smirk across her face. You both stand side by side packing up your gear, she changes and for the first time in your life you notice the urge to glance over. You’d never had an interest in seeing your teammates change, never had an interest in watching the muscles flex across someone’s back as they pulled a shirt on, but you did.
You drag your mind elsewhere, away from Jessie, trying to finish packing up.
“What are you doing tomorrow?” Jessie turns to look at you, sitting down to put her shoes on.
“Tomorrow? Well we’re off so I don’t know. Probably nothing, which is lame but…”
“Do you want something to do?”
“What?”
“I was thinking of getting coffee and walking along the river. I’ve been meaning to get my camera out again since we walked around with Sam and Hina, I just haven’t. Figured tomorrow would be a good time to break it out again. The roses are out now.”
“Oh, that sounds like a good afternoon for you.”
“Do you want to come with? That’s what I was asking.” Jessie asks as she slings her bag across her shoulder.
That felt like a date. Was it a date? Or was it just friends hanging out? You mentally cursed Sam for bringing up the suggestion that maybe Jessie had a crush.
“You don’t have to.” Jessie jumps in, clearly noticing the way you were contemplating her offer. “I just figured since we’re sort of friends now, I like hanging out with you.” Jessie shrugs.
“No, that sounds nice.” You smile at her. “What time?”
“Up to you, if you want to sleep in, we can go late morning, I just have to be back for an appointment around 3.”
“I’m not a great sleeper. I’ll probably be up by 5am but we don’t have to go that early.”
“How about I’ll just let you know once I’m up?” She stands up grabbing her bag and throwing it over her shoulder.
“Sounds like a plan.”
“See ya tomorrow, have a goodnight.”
“You too.” You watch her walk out before turning back your attention to finishing packing your own bag before heading out to go home for the night.
You spend the next morning waiting around for Jessie’s text. You had woken up with a tingle in anticipation in your chest. She texted you around 8am.
Jessie: Morning! I’m up and can be ready whenever, just let me know.
You read it and waited just a few minutes, not wanting to seem like you were waiting for her text.
You: I’m up, whenever works for me. I can walk to meet you.
It took her a few minutes to reply but she did, saying to just let her know once you’re outside. So you did just that, throwing on some shoes and headed out your door and up the street toward her place.
You waited, leaned up against a tree waiting for Jessie. She emerged from the building a few moments later, wearing a pair of blue shorts and the black Nike shirt she loved so much. Her camera was slung across her chest and she was actively putting on a hat as she walked toward you.
“You sure do love that shirt Fleming.” You tease her.
“What does that mean?” She looks up confused and slightly offended look across her face.
“Nothing, you just wear it a lot.”
“Well I like it. Are you good to just wander once we grab coffee?”
“Sure, I like the sound of that.”
That’s exactly what the two of you did. You waited in line at the coffee shop, Jessie insisting on paying for your drink despite your protests, arguing that it was her idea to go out so she should cover it.
The two of you then went on walking through the streets of Portland, reaching the bank of the river and following it. It reminded you a lot of the day with your teammates. Jessie stopping every once in a while to take a photo. You watching her meticulously.
You knew she had a good eye for photography, you’d seen some of her photos before. It was fascinating to you to watch her work in real time. She took photos in a similar manner to how she played on the field. She paid attention to detail. She took her time. She was diligent.
You started asking questions. Why she took a certain photo, why did she changed positions for a photo, and what about it made her interested in it? Jessie seemed so happy to talk about her photography, answering all the questions you asked, adding little anecdotes and stories into her answers as well. She explained why for some shots she took them using her film camera while others her digital. She explained how she likes the lighting to look, how she likes the subject to be located in an image. She ran you through every thought in her brain. You loved hearing it. The way she spoke about her photography showed you exactly how much she loved it, how much she cared about it.
The two of you walk along, spending a couple hours outside enjoying the sights of Portland. You take a second looking out over the river, admiring the bridge in front of you when you hear a click from behind you. You turn to see what Jessie was taking a photo of and are surprised to see her holding her camera up in your direction, a sheepish look across her face.
“Did you just take my photo?”
“Yes.” She says before immediately beginning to apologize. “Sorry I should’ve asked. I’ve actually taken a few of you today. Just the lighting and the way you’re standing and I can see the bridge you’re looking at, it was just a nice view. Sorry.”
“Oh, I mean it’s fine, I don’t mind.” You weren’t actually sure if you minded. Normally you didn’t love your photo being taken, you would get shy, insecure, but something about Jessie wanting to take photos of you felt different.
“I’ll send them to you of course, unless you’d rather I delete them, I’m sorry I really should’ve asked.” The more she talks the more her face reddens.
“Okay, really Jessie it’s fine.”
She gives you a small smile, a tiny hint of a blush across her cheeks.
The two of you head back toward you apartments, it had quickly become late afternoon, time flying by as you enjoyed your afternoon with the Canadian. The two of you not even relaxing just how late it was until Jessie realized if you didn’t head home soon, she’d be late for her media appointment. The two of you sped walk, but practically ran through the streets of Portland to get back to your street.
“Have a good rest of your day Jessie. Thank you for the invite, I had a really nice time.” You laughed at how the two of you were both breathing heavily as you stood outside of your door. For two professional athletes, the two of you sure were tired.
“Thank you for coming, I really enjoyed hanging out with you. I’ll be sure to send you the photos.” She says with a smile.
“See ya, sorry for almost making you late.” You return the smile before turning into the door and heading inside.
As you made yourself a late lunch you couldn’t ignore the feeling of warmth that Jessie had left inside of you. She made your morning nice. You felt seen by her, she cared about you, and while temporarily that felt good, in the back of your mind you couldn’t ignore the remainder in the back of your head. You couldn’t like her, that wasn’t an option. You turn you attention back to your meal and sit down with a book to enjoy the rest of your day off.
Your phone pings from across the room and you wander over to it picking it up to see a slew of images being sent to you from Jessie. You open them and suddenly learn just how many photos of you the girl had taken. There had to be 20-30 images of you, all with different backgrounds. Some you were holding your coffee, some must’ve been from later in the day, your coffee empty. Most of them were the back of you, capturing you looking out at something, some just of you waking, the city captured around you. Towards the end, a few of your side profile, a few of you somewhat facing her, ones she had clearly taken after telling you she was photographing you. You didn’t often love photos of yourself, but these were different, you liked almost all of them.
You: Wow, seriously I feel like I should be paying you for these.
Jessie: It’s no biggie. You’re an easy subject to photograph, very photogenic. I’ll send you the film ones once I get those developed.
You start debating what to type back. If anything it was probably just her ability to take good photos, not you that made the pictures good. Tell her how she’s made you suddenly not hate the way you look in photos. That felt too forward, so you don’t type that. You start typing out a simple thank you but another message from Jessie comes through.
Jessie: Hey can I ask you something?
You delete the previously typed message and respond.
You: Yeah sure.
That’s when your phone started to ring, Jessie’s name on the screen indicating she was calling you. You slide your thumb across the screen and answer.
“Hey.” You hear her voice through the phone.
“Hi.” You answer. “What's up?” You stand up from the couch, starting to pace the room as you did whenever you were on the phone.
“Sorry, just this is easier than texting you.”
“Yeah, that’s fine.”
There’s a beat of silence before Jessie starts talking again. “So maybe this is stupid to ask, I need a date for Janine's wedding. I mean I don't need one, but I don't know, Janine just made a comment that I was the only one in the bridal party without a plus one. I know you got a separate invite but maybe we could go together? As friends, not as a date, I know I said date but not what I really meant.” You can’t help but notice the way she seemed to get nervous as she asked. The way her voice became rushed the longer she spoke.
“You want a date?” You feel a twinge of tightness in your chest just mentioning the word ‘date’ to her.
“It’s not a date, I just said date because that's what it's called. I just meant, do you want to go together? I don’t really have anyone else to ask, everyone else already has a date or I don't know them that well.” You pondered for a moment, you didn’t know many of Janine’s friends beyond your teammates who had been invited, you weren’t familiar with her Canadian team, or her family. Having someone you did know, someone who knew the Canadian team, Janine’s friends and family would be nice, make it a little more comfortable.
“Wow, feels good to know I was your 50th choice.” You roll your eyes even though you know she can’t see you, making sure the sarcasm is obvious in your voice.
“That’s not what I meant.” Jessie pauses for a moment. “So is that a yes?” She sounds hesitant, almost nervous to ask as if she was holding her breath on the other end of the phone.
You intentionally let out an over dramatic sigh, wanting to push Jessie’s buttons a bit more. “I guess, I still owe you a favor or two for being an ass to you, so sure.”
“Oh, cool!” She sounded actually surprised. “Thanks, and just so you know you don’t have to spend the whole night with me. It’ll just be nice to have someone.”
Please Don't Be In Love With Somone Else
Damian Priest x You Oneshot
TW: Swearing, loss of a loved one
Summary: One gesture from Priest finally pushes you to make your move.
“That bastard!” You huffed out quietly as you lifted your ring gear out of your bag. You didn’t know whether to scream or cry. You ex had left you one last parting gift. You’d been apart for eight months now but he finally finished collecting your stuff at the weekend, you’d let him into the house and gone out with your girls for the day. You didn’t expect him to rummage through the wrestling stuff you’d packed away ready for the week ahead. You knew it was Rhea from her voice as she approached you asking what was wrong. You held out your gear in front of you and looked over your shoulder as you watched Rhea’s mouth form an ‘o’ shape. You brought your closed fist to your mouth to help control the anger that wanted to burst out of you.
“The piece of shit” Rhea breathed out shaking her head. It was ruined. There was no way it was going to be fixable.
“Can you believe he did this?” You sat down on the bench deflated and clutching onto your ruined gear. He had taken scissors and cut holes into it.
“Rhea, this was the last set she made before she passed.” Your words trembled out of your mouth, the tears starting to trickle down your cheeks hugging the gear close to you as you thought about your sister.
“Why would he do this?” You sobbed as Rhea pulled you into her embrace, she soothed your back and allowed you to cry. Rhea was the complete opposite of her on screen character, in reality she was humble, caring and nurturing.
“He’s a jealous selfish prick, that’s why!” Rhea carefully peeled you off her, wiping away your tears then placing her hands on your shoulders for reassurance.
“Hey, we will figure this out okay. Right now we need to find you some gear otherwise you're gonna be a naked girly.” You half heartedly smiled and giggled at Rhea’s attempt to cheer you up.
“Hah you laughed, that means we can do this!” She squeezed you tightly before holding your hands and helping you up and heading out of the locker room.
You were sitting in the styling chair, your hair being put into space buns when his soothingly low pitched voice came from behind you.
“Do you mind giving us a minute?” Priest was now standing in front of you; his usually cheeky smile was this time full of sympathy.
“I told you I should have stayed at the house” He approached you in an intimate proxemics as the palm of his hand rested on your cheek. He tenderly manoeuvred your face side to side and up and down scanning your face. His eyes eventually settled on yours and you too looked up at him. Your heart always did this when he looked at you, touched you,it would rapidly beat and then hurt as if it had burst into a million tiny little hearts that floated in your insides. His hand fell from your cheek and you felt instant withdrawal symptoms.
“He didn’t hurt me. I went out with the girls” You spoke trying to start a conversation.
“Good. Rhea told me what he did to your gear, I’m sorry Y/N” “It’s not your fault. Besides, there's no point getting upset about it anymore, I can’t fix it.”
“Well I do believe I have the perfect solution.” He wiggled his eyebrows and held a smirk as he pulled out a shirt from his back pocket and threw it at you. It was one of his merch t-shirts, it was cut and shaped to fit like ring gear. He could always put a smile on your face.
“You want me to wear this?” You raised your eyebrows and smiled widely as you held it out.
“Me? Personally, I'd prefer it if you wore nothing. “ Damian whispered into your ear as he pulled you off the chair and into him. He carrassed his fingertips along your arms until he reached the straps of your tank top and gently tugged them down revealing your collarbone. He then traced his fingers across your chest slowly as he made his way up your neck and then onto your lips where his thumb parted them as he pushed your bottom lip down finally resting his tips on your chin. You wanted it badly, to feel his lips on yours.
Damian had always been a good friend to you, you were the last two people at the bar chatting the night away. He was the one who stood by you and held your hand tightly as you mourned your sister at her funeral. He was the one who lifted you up and spun you around in celebration as you won your first championship. Things had changed between you one evening after the third and final time you and Bron had broken up. Damian had escorted you back to your hotel room, the two of you just stood in front of the door in silence staring into each other. You didn’t want him to leave, his presence was comforting. You had one hand on the door handle but refused to open it until Damian had closed the gap between you and placed his hand on top of yours, twisting the handle and opening the door. He was so close to kissing you every part of him wanted to do it for years. He could see the breathing in your chest rise and fall as he stood this close to you.
“Do you want me to stay with you?” He asked and you nodded in return. He had never forgotten watching you dress down to your bra and pants as you climbed into the bed. Damian had never said anything about how he had felt all these years, cause you’d always been in love with someone else.
“You’re a tease Priest” You hushed and smiled pushing off of him.
“No, what will be teasing is you performing in my shirt.” He leaned beside you grabbing the shirt off the chair and holding it to your chest.
“So I won't wear it then..” You pushed his hand away and sat back down in the chair as Lydia started on your hair again. “You will wear it, trust me.” He placed the shirt on the table beside you and walked away.
“I hate it when you’re right!” You shouted out, he responded by throwing up a love heart.
A few days later
There was a present on your locker room bench. You picked up the card to read the message.
I will always be there to help you fix problems.
D.P. x
Placing the card down you unwrapped the present. Gently unfolding the outfit you realised it was a version of your ring gear. As you began to observe it you realised that the gear your sister had made you was used to help make this one. You brought it close to you and hugged it as if it was the most important thing to you. You had assumed someone had thrown it out when it had gone missing. It wasn't until you read back over the card it registered in your brain who had this made for you. Grabbing your phone from your back pocket, you open your messages.
Y/N: Where are you?
Instantly you had your reply.
DP: Been waiting outside the women’s locker room since Rhea told me you were there.
You dropped your phone and made your way over to the door. After one big release of breath you opened the door to see him standing on your left, leaning against the wall wearing the most attractive and warm smile. It felt as if this moment as you stood in front of him were happening in slow motion, it felt like this moment was what would happen in a film, one grand gesture and all the palpable tension between two people would finally unavoidably explode.
With a quiet volume and shaky tone you asked him “did you do this?” holding up the gear in your left hand.
“I mean unless you know another DP?” He shrugged his shoulders. You leapt, physically leapt into Damian’s arm as you pulled him down into your frame and kissed him. He kissed you with passion as he needily roamed his hands down your back, along your thighs, gripping onto your neck before finally settling on the apples of your cheeks. Pulling away he leaned his forehead on yours.
“That was a nice thank you.”
“Thank you Damian. This is the most thoughtful gift ever. Really.”
His hand settled on your lower back as yours clasped around his neck.
“As much as I love how happy this has made you, I’m kinda mad I don't get to see you wear my shirt in the ring again. I look good on you” You rolled your eyes playfully to which Damian responded by planting kisses along your neck.
“Just for you I’ll wear it tonight... In and out of the ring.” You flirtatiously bit your lip.
With a growl of temptation Damian kissed you. After a few delicate kisses Damian stopped and looked at you seriously.
“Y/N, on a serious note I’m so glad it's finally me.” “What do you mean?” “You’ve always been in love with someone else.” After a brief moment of silence Priest pushed a strand of your hair behind your ear to capture a full picture of you up close in this vulnerable state.
“I won't be like him Y/N. I hope you know that.” You nod your head in acknowledgement.
“Please don’t be in love with someone else again.” You intently gazed into his eyes letting the biggest smile spread across your full lips.
“Never.”
Damian lifted you up to wrap yourself around him, his hands tangled in your hair as he fervently kissed you again.
FML: Process Heavy
It started off so simply. A friend emailed me a link to a YouTube video promising to teach me about how to get some quick muscle. We had been swearing for months we were going to get on a consistent schedule to go, we just never did. I watched the 20 minute long video quickly. I hardly even noticed when it was over. But I felt energized enough to go on a run. That’s how it would start. I would watch the next video in the series and time would simply slip away. 20 minutes. 30 minutes. An hour. I started noticing changes, little things out of place. My water bottle half drunk in my car. Tee shirts in the laundry when I swore I washed them. Some new supplements I didn’t remember buying. It wasn’t until I popped one on Friday night and came to Monday morning fresh from the shower that I really started to get concerned.
At that point, I began noticing the physical effects. My previously smooth body had begun sprouting hair all over: my chest, my face, my arms, my ass. My voice easily dropped two octaves, deep and bellowing. And the muscle. They were not joking about growing muscle quick. My arms swelled as biceps, triceps, and forearms strained against my taught skin. Abs formed a cobblestone path down to a deep V. Firm pecs we’re established, but not for long. They continued to swell and stick out, heavy and juicy. They were almost hypnotic, the way they would jiggle as I walked. But that was nothing compared to my butt. Bubble would hardly describe it, they were pillow-like. A soft mix of muscle and fat filled out a rear that you could bounce a quarter off. Every part of me swelled and filled with power. That was when the smell really set in. No matter where I was, what I was doing, or how much I would wash I would catch this smell coming off of me. It wasn’t bad, in fact it was deep and masculine in a way that I couldn’t quite describe, but it drove me wild none the less. And I wasn’t the only one. Other bros around me would kind of drift off into their own worlds, with a distinct outline pushing against their pants. I’m not kidding dude, my boss drug me into a meeting last week. He started complaining about how my work was slipping but after just a few minutes he was basically in his own world as he just kinda leaned back in his chair and let it all hang out. I asked if I could go and he just kinda waved me off. There was a faint moan behind me as I closed the door.
At this point whole days were slipping by before I even registered they had started. It was this weekend that I somehow came to during one of my episodes. I was in the sauna in a gym I didn’t recognize. Two bros were in there, zonked out of their minds on my scent. But I realized that wasn’t all. In their state, laid back, sprawled on the bench, mouths hanging open, I saw a stream of liquid dribbling out of one guys mouth. Thick and viscous, I immediately knew the sight of jizz. I stumbled out of the room, leaving my towel behind. I texted my friend who sent me the videos in the first place. I hadn’t seen him since this had all began and I needed answers. I felt my scent catch up with me, tickling at my brain to go back into whatever trance I had been under. I wrapped a fresh towel around my nose and threw on the stringer top, shorts, and sandals I had in my locker. When had my feet grown so big? Free balling, I stormed out to my car and drove towards my friend’s place. When I arrived, the door was almost suspiciously unlocked. Who greeted me inside though was not the curly-haired, lanky, nerdy friend I knew.
He was ripped, oozed confidence, and passed a beer into my hands before I could even process.
“What, not what you were expecting? You didn’t think I would let you have all the fun did you?”
I knew then that this was all his design, his plan for me. I wanted to leave but, every small twitch of this man mesmerized me. Instead, he pushed me onto the couch, covered in his sweaty workout gear, and I began to sip on my beer. He looked me up and down, assessed me like a piece of furniture he wasn’t quite sold on.
“Well, I think you’ve processed long enough. I think it’s time to see what all that training has done.”
He pulled his shirt off and sat facing me in my lap. I was glued to my seat as this man tore my top off of me and pressed our exposed bodies together. My mind tried to to resist but my body betrayed me, as he raised my chin, slid his hand around my neck, and pulled my lips to his. I was enraptured. Our tongues danced as he began exploring my body with his hands. Quickly, he had my arms thrown behind my head as sweat trickled from my pits. He buried his face in and gave them a good sniff.
“Fuck babe, you’re ripe. Not as ripe as these though.”
He threw an arm back and guided my face to his pit. If my scent was good his was pure heroine. It consumed my mind as I felt my cock strain against my shorts. As I worshipped that stench, it kept growing and throbbing. My mind shut down, giving into raw pleasure. Nothing else mattered, I could live on this high alone. In this state, he pulled me out of his pit and asked:
“You want to live like this? You want to be controlled by your master’s scent?”
Fuck I did. Anything, I begged him, please. He gave me one last kiss as he walked out of the room, a video now playing on the TV.
“Then watch”
I felt myself slowly draining. A familiar voice droned out of the speakers, and I was throbbing for the release he would give me. In moments I was floating on nothing but the instructions of my master, and the scent of his used jockstraps lying around me…
Anyone who met you now would have never guessed how you started. A scrawny guy, stressed day in and day out at your corporate job, and cripplingly lonely. Any memories you had of that life were left somewhere in an apartment, nothing but dried cum on the floor and wall. The new you was sexy, outgoing, and confident. You worked out non-stop and did everything your master said to. You are dumb and obedient, with not a thought behind that flirtatious wink. But above all, you are horny. And guys can smell it. They can’t do anything but relax and submit, prostates being milked as they moan for more. The best get brought home and watch a few videos before being sent out into the world. Flex, fuck, propagate.
I.
Eddie’s first day as a probationary firefighter is…interesting. Captain Nash welcomes him with the same warm smile he gave him the first time they talked, then leads him inside and shows him around the app bay.
“We’ll give you the full tour later,” he promises, “after you’ve met the rest of the team. You’re the first one here, if you want, you can change into your uniform now.”
He points towards the locker room – which has glass walls for some reason – and Eddie nods.
He’s just finished buttoning up his shirt when Captain Nash ushers a group of firefighters inside. Eddie runs a hand through his hair to make sure it’s tidy and smiles as Hen and Chimney introduce themselves to him with warm smiles and handshakes, welcoming him to the team.
There’s a third person with them, hovering in the background and glowering at Eddie. He’s young, probably around Eddie’s age, tall and very built, and despite his hostile expression, he doesn’t give Eddie the impression of being an asshole. It’s like the expression doesn’t fit on his face, like he’s not used to wearing it.
Chim grabs him by the arm and pushes him forward, giving Eddie a commiserating smile.
“And this guy is Buck,” he says. “He was our probie before you.”
“Nice to meet you,” Eddie says politely, stretching a hand out to offer a handshake. “You’ll have to show me how things work around here, then.”
Buck glowers down at his hand, and when he finally grabs it, he squeezes it too tightly, like he’s trying to prove something. Eddie squeezes back, amused by the pretense this guy is clearly putting on.
Behind Buck’s back, Hen rolls her eyes, but she’s also wearing a fond look, which only confirms Eddie’s assumption that Buck isn’t half as bad as he’s pretending to be.
From Captain Nash, he knows that they’re supposed to work together a lot of the time, so that’s gonna be interesting. He doesn’t know why Buck is acting like this, but he’s gonna find out, and then he’s gonna figure out a way to work with Buck anyway.
He didn’t come here to make friends, but he’ll be spending 50 hours a week with these people, and he has to trust them with his life for a lot of that time, so they at the very least need to bury whatever hatchet Buck is carrying right now.
Eddie lets go of his hand with a nod and a polite smile, and gives himself a week to figure Buck out.
II.
The days between the accident and the funeral are kind of a blur.
There’s too much to do and think about, too many decisions to make, too many people to call, too much to organize. He has help – Abuela, Pepa, the entire 118, but it still feels too much.
Shannon was 27, she didn’t have a will, they never talked about any of this. How is Eddie supposed to know how she would like to be buried, or if she’d rather be cremated? What kind of music she would want them to play at her funeral? This wasn’t supposed to happen. Not for a very, very long time.
But it did happen, and now Eddie is somehow supposed to know all this about her, his wife, the woman he’s only just let back into his and Christopher’s lives, the woman who asked him for a divorce and completely pulled the rug from under his feet just a day before she died.
Sometimes, he feels like he didn’t know her at all.
His parents are here “to help”, which should be a relief but really isn’t. They never liked Shannon and aren’t making a secret of it, even now that– now that she’s gone. So Eddie can’t involve them in the funeral planning, and he can’t even leave Christopher with them because he’s scared that they’re gonna take the opportunity to grab him and run, and someone needs to make sure that Shannon’s memory is honored, but she didn’t have any family except him and Christopher, and Chris is seven, so Eddie has to be the one to make this funeral beautiful, something she’d deserve, but he doesn’t know– there’s so much–
“Eddie,” someone says next to him, snapping him out of his spiral. “Come on, breathe with me.”
Eddie stares at Buck’s chest as it rises and falls with exaggerated breaths, trying to match him. When did Buck get here? He doesn’t remember letting him in, doesn’t really remember what he was doing before he started hyperventilating on his couch.
“Chris,” he gasps when he realizes that also means he’s not sure where his kid is. And of course he’s the kind of father who would do that only days after his kid lost his mom, maybe his parents are–
“Is with Hen and Karen,” Buck says firmly, grabbing his forearm. “He’s gonna spend the day with them and Denny, probably getting spoiled rotten. I borrowed Pepa’s key when we went over there so they could pick him up, she told me you might not open – sorry for barging in here, but I’m glad I did. I know you– I wanted to– Bobby and Athena are running interference with your parents. And I’m here to help you with all that.” He gestures towards the couch table that’s covered in forms, leaflets from funeral homes, and cards from grief counselors. “After Abby’s mom– I helped plan her funeral. So I’ve got some experience.”
Eddie just stares at him, biting the inside of his cheek hard to stop himself from crying. He trusts Buck, but he still doesn’t want to cry in front of him, doesn’t want to cry in front of anyone. But he does think that maybe he should give Buck his own copy of a key, so he won’t have to borrow Pepa’s next time.
Buck squeezes his forearm and gives him a small, sad smile. “We’re all here for you, Eddie. I got your back, remember?”
Eddie blinks against the tears in his eyes and swallows around the lump in his throat that’s keeping him from saying anything.
Instead, he twists his arm from Buck’s grip and grabs his hand instead, squeezing it in a silent thank you.
Buck squeezes back and keeps holding on.
III.
Buck gets to go home earlier than anyone expected, but Eddie has been to his new apartment, so he isn’t surprised when Buck texts him a picture of his couch with a sad face. It’s not ideal, but at least he has a bathroom downstairs and a girlfriend who can help if he struggles with anything.
Until he doesn’t have that girlfriend anymore.
Eddie doesn’t find out until after his shield ceremony, days after, actually, once his parents have finally gone home to Texas.
Buck says he’s fine, obviously, but Eddie starts going over every day he doesn’t have a shift anyway, because he knows Buck and can see how much he’s struggling with the whole situation, with the uncertainty of when and how he can return to work.
He brings Christopher most of the time. They’re not having the best summer either, Eddie still worries that he’s not doing enough to help Christopher deal with his grief, when he can barely keep his own head above the water of grief, guilt and fear.
Carla is doing what she can, watching Christopher whenever Eddie’s working, she found him a grief counselor and is even looking into more permanent therapists.
None of it changes the fact that they’re grieving.
But when Christopher gets to hang out with Buck, he lights up every time, and so does Buck, which makes this a two birds with one stone kind of situation. Hanging out with Buck helps them both, too, makes their grief not the first thing on their minds for a little while.
Buck can’t move much, so they play board games and try to find one they all enjoy equally – it’s not easy, since Eddie likes luck-based games (he plays poker with his abuela and tía whenever he can), Buck prefers trivia and games relying on knowledge, while Christopher likes strategic games most.
But everyone gets to pick sometimes, and when they don’t want to play board games, they switch to video games instead.
Eddie knew that Buck and Chris get along well, they have ever since the first time they met, when Buck drove Eddie to Chris’ school after the earthquake during Eddie’s second week at the 118. But with how much time the three of them are spending together now, he can see them growing closer every day – and he loves it.
Buck is his best friend, and he genuinely cares about Christopher in a way that feels completely independent from Eddie.
One evening, while they’re playing a few rounds of Christopher’s current favorite video game after dinner, the kid falls asleep between them on the couch.
Buck smiles down at him and lowers the volume of the TV, which means he loses even more clearly to Eddie, but he had the win in the bag anyway, he’s sure.
Buck rolls his eyes at him when Eddie celebrates his victory with big, silent gestures, but he’s smiling, too.
Eddie grins at him, resting his arm on the back of the couch behind Chris, and Buck twists a little to face him. His leg, resting outstretched on the couch table in front of them, moves with him, and Eddie slides Christopher’s glass of water out of the way in a practiced move.
“I know you’re here to keep an eye on me,” Buck says, “and I should probably be annoyed. I– I was kind of annoyed, at first. But it’s hard to stay annoyed when he’s here, right?” He nods down at Christopher. “And I guess you’re okay, too.”
“Wow, thanks,” Eddie says, but he knows his glare isn’t convincing. “To be clear, we’re all keeping an eye on each other.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Buck reaches for Eddie’s hand, still on the backrest between them, and squeezes it – just for a moment, like he’s trying to get Eddie’s attention, like he doesn’t already have it anyway. “Thanks.”
IV.
Everything sucks.
It’s the uncertainty that gets to Eddie most, the not knowing how to help, how to stay safe, how to keep his loved ones safe. How long this is gonna last.
Every day, they have to see people die from a virus they know nothing about, and can’t do anything against.
And afterwards, they can’t even go home.
Christopher is part of a high risk group, and Eddie risks exposure at work every day, so obviously, he can’t endanger him by living with him. Chimney feels the same way about Maddie, and Hen also wants to keep her family safe, which is how the three of them ended up at Buck’s apartment, where they’ve been camped out for the past three weeks.
It’s generous of Buck to let them all stay with him, but the loft is not made for four people to live there, and they’re all feeling it.
Eddie loves his friends, but spending every minute of every day with them is starting to wear on him. They all try to give each other space, using the balcony as an extra room or going for runs outside, but there’s only so much they can do.
He hates being separated from Chris, it makes him feel like he’s breaking his promise to never leave him behind again. Christopher says he understands, but Eddie worries anyway. He trusts Pepa, who’s working fully remote and offered to stay with Chris, and they talk every day, but it’s not the same as being there.
Whenever he talks to Chris on the phone, he feels better in the moment, but worse the second they hang up. While they’re talking, he can almost pretend that things are normal, but it all comes crashing down afterwards.
He hasn’t hugged his son in weeks, and he has no idea when he’s even gonna see him in person again.
Buck joins their calls most of the time, at least for a few minutes, and he sits next to Eddie on the bed now, shoulders slumped where they’re touching Eddie’s. In a world where he has to keep his distance from almost everyone, except the patients he’s treating and the people he’s living with, touching and being touched by Buck is a real comfort.
“This won’t be forever, Eddie,” he says, almost desperately.
“But for how long?” Eddie asks, and it comes out sounding a little wobbly.
He’s not embarrassed by it anymore – Buck’s seen him in all kinds of situations, and they’re currently sharing a bed, so he’s seen him cry anyway.
“I–I wish I knew,” Buck says. “I wish I could– fix this.”
Eddie wipes at his eye and laughs a little. “The whole pandemic?”
“If I could, yeah.” Buck shrugs.
Eddie presses even closer to him for a moment, a gentle pressure of their shoulders, arms and thighs against each other. “I wish you could, too. But even if you can’t – I’m glad you’re here.”
“Of course.” Buck smiles at him and places his hand on Eddie’s thigh, palm up.
Eddie smiles back and grabs his hand, squeezing tightly.
“Okay,” he says, taking a deep breath. “I think it’s our turn to make dinner tonight – you ready?”
“Ready when you are,” Buck says, but he doesn’t let go until Eddie does.
V.
After Chris has gone to sleep, after Eddie has finally stopped crying, after Buck has wrapped his knuckles and cleaned up the worst of the mess in Eddie’s bedroom – the shards, the pieces of drywall, the fallen furniture, he makes up the couch for Eddie to sleep on. Eddie wants to help him, to tell him that he’ll just sleep in his room, but he can’t seem to move from his seat at the dining table.
Everything feels like too much, his hands hurt and his head worse, and he can’t stand the thought of Buck leaving. He’s exhausted, but he knows he won’t sleep if Buck goes home now.
But he can’t ask him to stay, not after Buck already dropped everything because Eddie couldn’t keep it together. He probably had plans, and Eddie ruined those too.
He can already feel the hot burn of tears behind his eyes again and drops his forehead onto his arms, folded on the table in front of him.
Buck’s hand lands on his back, warm, then travels up to squeeze the back of his neck gently.
“You ready to sleep?” he murmurs, and Eddie makes a noncommittal sound. “Come on, you must be exhausted.”
Eddie shrugs and Buck’s thumb brushes along his hairline.
“You don’t have to go in there, I can get you anything you need,” Buck says quietly. “And I’ll be right next to you in case you have a nightmare.”
“You’re staying?” Eddie asks, lifting his head. Buck’s hand stays where it is.
“Of course, Eddie,” Buck says, like it’s that easy.
And maybe it is that easy, Eddie thinks when they settle in next to each other in the living room, Eddie on the couch and Buck on a makeshift bed next to it. He’s pushed the couch table to the side to make room for it and it looks like he’s dragged Eddie’s mattress here, so at least Eddie doesn’t need to worry about him sleeping on the floor.
They’ve been by each other’s side through so much shit, maybe it’s not such a surprise that Buck wants to be here now too. He’s just not sure he deserves it.
“I’m sorry,” he says, staring up at the ceiling instead of looking at Buck. “You had plans– I’m sure you didn’t want to–”
“You have nothing to apologize for,” Buck says firmly. “Of course I’ll come whenever Christopher calls. O–or if you need me. I’m here, okay?”
“I keep thinking about her,” Eddie mumbles, pressing the heels of his hands to his burning eyes. “Mills. Last August– I should’ve– if I’d picked up the phone earlier–”
“This isn’t on you.” There’s rustling and then Buck is gripping Eddie’s forearms, trying to gently pull his hands away from his face. “I d-don’t know what Mills was going through, but I know that you couldn’t have known how bad it was. It’s sad, and it’s unfair, but it’s not your fault. And I know you’re feeling all these things now, but Eddie– I’m so happy you’re still here. I need you to– know that. Okay?”
Eddie finally lowers his arms, but instead of letting go fully, Buck just grabs his right hand and holds on. His eyes are wide and scared, and Eddie has scared too many people he loves tonight.
“Okay,” he says, even though– well. What makes him special? Why should he be the only one to get out? He’s not a better person than any of them, he doesn’t have a right to happiness or whatever he’s been deluding himself into believing he could have.
But he knows that he can’t tell Buck that now (or ever), knows that it’s a dark road to go down.
Maybe for tonight, with Buck by his side, he can keep the thoughts at bay for a little bit longer. After that– he has no idea. But Buck is still holding his hand, and Eddie may not deserve him, but he trusts him.
He thinks it may just give him enough hope to get through this night.
+ I
“This was nice,” Buck says, holding the door for Eddie as they leave the restaurant. “You, uh, you really didn’t have to pay, though.”
“I wanted to,” Eddie says with a smile, glancing right towards their cars and then left to where the beach is only a short walk away, and finally back to Buck’s face, finding him already looking back. “How do you feel about taking a walk?”
Buck grins, turning left. “Let’s go.”
They’re not on a date, or at least they haven’t called it that, but Eddie has been thinking that it feels like one all night. Technically, they’re two friends trying out a new restaurant together. They drove here separately, no one pulled anyone’s chair out, they talked the same way they always do.
But Eddie spent half an hour picking something to wear tonight, Buck is wearing a shirt that looks new and gorgeous and fit for a date, and every time their eyes caught across the table, Eddie thought that maybe, Buck wouldn’t pull away if he reached out and took his hand.
It’s not the first time Eddie has thought that. Ever since Buck and Tommy broke up, it’s felt like maybe they’re heading towards something, familiar touches lingering and turning into something new, gazes catching and then holding instead of looking away.
Buck was upset for a little while afterwards, but he admitted to Eddie that it was more about another failed relationship – and his first one with a man, after he thought he’d finally figured out what was missing, than about Tommy as a person.
He went on a couple of dates, with men and women, but nothing ever stuck.
Eddie was going through his own stuff at the time – he eventually came out to Buck a week before Chris finally came home, and Buck hasn’t been on a date since.
Sometimes, Eddie wonders (hopes), if the two things are related.
Still, neither of them has called tonight a date – yet.
Eddie glances at Buck’s profile while they’re walking, and wonders what he’s waiting for.
Yes, it’s scary because Buck is the most important person in his life right after Christopher, but it’s also not, because this is Buck. Who has been by Eddie’s side through the worst, most painful, most humiliating times of his life, and is still here. Buck, who Eddie trusts with his life, and his son, and his heart.
Buck smiles at him and Eddie smiles back, heartbeat picking up. He’s doing this, he’s gonna tell Buck how he feels. Any minute now, he’s gonna be brave enough.
“Hey,” Buck says, “it’s just me.”
“I know,” Eddie says, and his heart thumps against his ribs. He lets his fingers brush against Buck’s on their next swing and watches as Buck bites his lip, smiling down at the ground. Hushed, like a confession, he adds, “Are you nervous, too?”
Buck looks back up at him then, eyes glittering in the dark. “Y-yeah. I am.”
They’ve reached the edge of the beach by now and bend down to take off their shoes without having to talk about it.
When they start walking again, they’re even closer than before, the backs of their hands, their elbows and shoulders all brushing with every step.
Eddie keeps stealing glances at Buck, and almost every time, Buck is already looking back.
There aren’t many people at the beach at this time of day, so they don’t come close to anyone else, and all they hear is the sand beneath their feet and the waves crashing a few feet away. The moon is big enough to be reflected on the sea, a beautiful sight, but Eddie still can’t look away from Buck for long.
“So, this is, uh, kind of romantic,” Buck blurts out after a few quiet minutes. “Right? I–I’m not misreading that?”
“No,” Eddie says. “I mean– you’re not misreading it.”
“But you’re nervous.”
When their knuckles brush again, Eddie stretches out his fingers and catches Buck’s, holding on. Buck’s own fingers tighten immediately, and it gives Eddie the last bit of courage he needs.
“Well, yeah. Buck–” He stops walking, and Buck follows, turning so he’s facing Eddie. He’s close enough that Eddie can see his expression despite the dark, and he looks terrified, hopeful, nervous and excited at the same time, all of which Eddie feels, too. Eddie takes a deep breath. “I’m nervous because– nothing…no one’s ever been this important.”
A smile spreads out across Buck’s face, slowly deepening the crinkles around his eyes. “So this was a date?”
“Did it feel like one to you, too?”
Buck’s smile widens. “Yeah, i–it did. And I’m–I’m nervous too, of course. Eddie, if we do this, there’s no going back for me. I can’t– lose you. You and Christopher, you’re too important.”
He pulls on Eddie’s hand a little, and Eddie takes another step closer, drops his shoes in the sand and places his free hand on Buck’s shoulder, thumb resting against his collarbone.
“It’s the same for me,” he says quietly. He shivers when Buck grabs his waist, the warmth of his hand seeping through Eddie’s shirt. “I– We don’t know what’s gonna happen. But, Buck– I love you. I love you so much, I have for…way longer than I was aware of it, and I just don’t see that going away. And I don’t think it’s fair to us to deny ourselves when I really think we could make each other– so happy. I know I can make you happy, and I want to prove it to you every day of my life, Buck.”
Buck is just staring at him with a dazed expression, his lips slightly parted, and Eddie suddenly can’t stand not kissing him for a second longer.
He slides his hand from Buck’s shoulder to the back of his neck, watches Buck’s eyes flutter shut and feels his fingers tighten on his waist, and then he’s finally, finally closing the distance between them.
Buck makes a soft sound against his mouth, like he’s still somehow surprised this is happening, but he gets on board very quickly, and Eddie stops thinking entirely.
When they pull back breathlessly, Eddie’s hair is a mess – he can feel the loose strands on his forehead – his lips are still tingling, and Buck’s got both arms wrapped around him tightly.
“In case that wasn’t clear,” Buck gasps, and lifts a hand to cup Eddie’s cheek. His thumb brushes over Eddie’s chin and caresses his lower lip, and Eddie presses a kiss to the pad of it. “I love you, too.”
helloooo, i have a request if its possible♡
since we got figure skater! Sirius..... Do you think we could get hockey player! James x figure skater! reader? Maybe they go to the same place but the place where they practice its kinda shitty so its literally kinda like an across the hallway situation where the hockey practice happens on one ice rink and when you leave you can walk thru the ice rink of the figure skaters that its on another section of the place IDK I'M NOT AN ARCHITECT SORRY
BUT THE POINT ITS, that one day James leaves practice later than usual and he's walking to get out but he heards his favorite song playing and he goes to see whats up because its his favorite song ever! and goes to the other ice rink and sees the reader practicing and inmediatly he has the biggest crush ever and its almost dreaming about a house and three kids with that cute girl
idk i think i explained myself like sht but hope you like the idea! cause i think it would be soo cute
Hi lovely, you explained yourself perfectly! Thanks for being so patient with me, I hope this is alright <3
hockey player!James x figure skater!reader ♡ 718 words
James’ entire body is pleasantly sore, and he’s very much looking forward to going home to a nice, hot shower.
“Do you and Moony want to go get breakfast tomorrow morning?” he asks Sirius as they leave the locker room. The two of them had taken longer than usual changing out of their gear, Sirius filling him in on the absolute hell week Remus had at his new job. To hear Sirius talk about it, all the other professors are simply jealous of Remus. James is sure that’s partly true, but he’d bet they need less reason than that. Somehow, James had thought leaving school would mean emerging into a more mature world, but adults seem just as petty as teenagers. Maybe pancakes and a good, uplifting chat would do something to take the sting out of Remus’ first week and help prepare him for the next.
Sirius cuts James a sideways look, gray eyes narrowed. “Breakfast at what time?”
“I was thinking six, six thirty.” Sirius scoffs, and James grins. “Only joking. How’s eleven?”
“Still too early,” Sirius grumbles, “but we’ll go.”
James bobs his head, pleased to have a course of action for helping his friend. “Ask Moons where he feels like going, and just…” He hears a faint, familiar melody. “...just let me know.”
“Sounds good.” Sirius pushes open the door, but James has stopped. He’s looking back towards the rink, intrigued. “Coming?”
James waves him off. “In a bit. See you tomorrow.”
Sirius makes an amused sound, not unused to James’ diversions, and goes.
James follows the sound of his favorite song, unabashed about bopping his head to the beat as he approaches the rink. He knows figure skaters sometimes use the rink after his hockey practice has wrapped up, and he absolutely has to see who’s choreographed a routine to this. He comes to a stop near the edge of the bleachers, and watches through the tempered glass as one lone skater launches into a turn.
This wouldn’t be the track James would have thought of for a figure skating routine, but frankly, you’re doing it justice. Your movements are springy and nimble as you glance across the ice, one complicated-looking move to the next to the next. It seems like both skates are never touching the ground for more than half a second. There’s a lot to be said, probably, about your skill, your technique, but James is a philistine. All he can think about is how pretty you look.
You’re gorgeous. Stunning. Graceful in your movements and seraphim in your countenance. A wisp of hair has freed itself from the confines of the rest and whips about your face, but you don’t seem to notice it, your gaze steady and lips just slightly pursed in concentration.
James would never tell his friends because they’d mock him to hell and back, but he does believe in love at first sight. Only under particular circumstances, though. The sight has to be good enough—meaning, he has to see some aspect of who that person is behind a pretty face. You certainly do have a pretty face, and you’re dancing to his favorite song, and James doesn’t understand how he could ever be expected to not be totally enamored with you after this one spectacular look. He worries that if you glance over, you’ll see him with giant cartoon hearts boinging out of his eyes on springs.
The song ends, and you spin to a stop. James’ breathing stops, too, as your gaze lands on a point not ten feet to his right. He wonders if he’s being creepy. It’s not like this is a private rink, and James wouldn’t be weirded out if he spotted someone watching him running drills or something (actually, if it were you he’d be over the moon about it), but he’s been told not everyone feels like he does about that stuff. And though he hardly thinks of himself as intimidating, James is also a big guy. He wants to woo you, not spook you.
You skate to the edge of the rink to restart your music, and James slips out. He hears it blaring softly behind him, and he probably looks like a total idiot when he grins and dances out the front door. An idiot in love.
hello…………..kiyoomi crumbs pls
ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE
*patting the hood of a car* this bad boy can hold so much bf!sakusa
cw: swearing and the msby jackals being idiots
you checked your phone again and prayed you weren't keeping him waiting for a long time.
"hi, is omi still in there?"
"he should be just about finishing up, but you can go ahead. you know your way around the place by now," the security guard states warmly, giving you the go-ahead to navigate the back halls of the gym to the men's locker room. even if you did find yourself lost, it'd be easy to get to your destination by simply following the banter of your boyfriend's three very spirited teammates. their voices grow louder with every step and you have to stifle a laugh when you start to pick up the bits and pieces of their conversations.
"and then she told me i was being delusional! can you imagine? me? delusional?"
"remind us all when you met this girl, atsumu?"
"...last week."
"dare i say, she has a point," deadpans the smooth, low voice of your boyfriend. he always knew the best ways to press atsumu's buttons, making it very difficult to invite his friends over for dinner without harmless arguing occurring at the kitchen table. "it's okay; i'm sure you'll find another 'love of your life' next week."
"shoyo, the fuck are you doin' with my shirt?"
"can you all please put clothes on? if sakusa's partner walks in here and all of you are naked-"
"i'm not naked!"
"we know you're not, bokuto, but atsumu needs to put his tits away before i cut them off with scissors," kiyoomi quips and you fail to muffle your snort from around the corner. the room quiets in an instant and you hear a faint fuck before he finally comes to find you. he's still slightly sweaty from practice, all toned muscle and messy hair and bright eyes that only twinkle for you. "hi, beautiful."
"hey, handsome. you done threatening physical violence in there?" your eyebrow quirks in question and he shakes his head tiredly, tugging you into him by the belt loops of your pants. your arms rest on his shoulders, brushing stray curls from his forehead.
"not yet. i still have some unfinished business."
"mmm, with razors, i hear." you nod in solemn understanding and his mouth quirks into a half-smile, another expression of his that was reserved only for you. his lips press a kiss to your temple in a rare show of public affection, inhaling your presence with his eyes shut contentedly. "i could be wrong, but a federal offense will probably screw up your olympic prospects."
"if you tell me to do it, i'll do it," he murmurs absentmindedly and you chuckle under your breath.
"what, murder atsumu or not murder atsumu?"
"dealer's choice." he places one more kiss on your nose before resting his forehead against yours like he'd been away from you for decades. to you, it was a few hours; but, to him, it felt like a century. "i missed you a lot."
"i can tell. you're very affectionate tonight." his forehead scrunches in confusion at the implication of your statement.
"what am i, a cat?" the incredulity in his voice makes you giggle and, despite his best efforts to remain stoic, you can tell he's fighting back a smile too.
"in some ways, yes. you do tend to leave hair all over our couch, and you make a lot of noise when you're hungry." he makes a proud noise in the back of his throat and lightly pinches the flesh of your sides in defiance.
"i'll buy us a new one if you want me to," he promises. you stopped sharing product ads with omi on instagram because he tended to buy you anything that you sent him, even if it was just a funny little trinket you saw on an etsy shop. these items included but were not limited to stationary, plushies, athleticwear, and, of course, furniture.
"you don't need to do that."
"maybe i already have."
"thanks for letting me know that your newest love language is buying me a sofa."
"my love language is doing whatever you want me to do, angel." you both jump when a loud crash comes from the locker room around the corner, followed by hinata's panicked rambling and bokuto saying "that was fucking epic!" atsumu, you'd guess, is either the culprit or the object that caused the crash. you gently push omi's sturdy shoulders away and he groans in protest. "do i have to?"
"wrangle your team, put some proper clothes on, and take me to dinner, lover boy."
"as you wish."
hockey game
dad!chris.sturniolo x fem.reader
summary: “the best thing about turning to the stands is to see my two reasons for living”
author’s note: hope that this is good as the other one! let me know ♡
----------------------
English is not my first language, if you see grammar and typing mistakes, I apologize in advance! I just ask you not to be rude to me ♡
---------------------
revised
There was a palpable tension in the air at home, not because of any recent fights or disagreements between you and Lily, but due to the fact that Chris was extremely agitated for today's game.
He and his team had been training hard for this fateful day for weeks, spending most of their time on the ice rather than at home.
While you understood the importance of the game, his agitation was bringing anxiety to the two women of the house.
As you sat on the couch, Chris' constant fidgeting was making you increasingly exasperated. "Chris, please calm down. I don't know what I could do to help you" you said, trying to keep your cool. "Oh, I'm sure you could think of something" he said with a wink. "But it would only lead me to lose my concentration, so pass." You looked at him incredulously, ready to counter, but at that moment, you felt a small Lily running towards you, dressed in her special uniform made by the entire team.
"I'm ready!" she exclaimed, looking up at you and Chris with a big smile on her face. "Alright, princess, let's go. We don't want to be late" Chris said, picking her up.
As you drove to the arena, you couldn't help but notice that Chris seemed more tense than usual. You tried to ask him what was wrong, but you didn't want to agitate him further. Fortunately, the car ride was uneventful, and you arrived at the palace safely.
Chris and Lily repeated in unison, "No fights and play clean" as you stopped at the entrance. "I'm serious, honey. Play your best, and we are always with you" you told Chris, leaving a kiss on his lips. "Thanks, I needed it" he said, looking into your eyes before kissing Lily on the forehead. "See you at the end of the second period" he said, heading towards the locker room while you and Lily made your way to the stands where Uncle Nick and Matt were waiting for you.
Matt handed you a pack of M&M's, your favorites, and asked "Where were you? It should start soon." "We were saying goodbye to Chris. He's very agitated today" you responded, trying to ignore the knot in your stomach. Nick asked, "Why?" you shrugged, "I have no idea. After the game, I'll try to ask him" The voice from the megaphone announcing the entry of both teams interrupted your conversation, and you immediately looked for Chris' number 3 on the ice. Once you spotted him, you didn't remove your gaze, and Chris noticed, giving you a small nod with a smile.
The first half of the game was uneventful, but the second half was nerve-wracking for both the fans and the players. Luck didn't seem to be on your side, and one of Chris's teammates suffered an injury from a rival, who was sent directly to the penalty box.
Despite this setback, your team managed to stay ahead with a score of 3-2.
As soon as the second half whistle blew, you got up with Lily and headed towards the locker room, knowing that you would find Chris at your meeting point.
"Daddy!" Lily exclaimed, running towards him as soon as she saw him. "Princess! How is the game going?" he asked, picking her up. Lily gave him a thumbs up, smiling, while you watched Chris carefully, trying to figure out what was bothering him.
"What's wrong?" you asked him, not wanting to wait until the end of the match. Chris looked away, saying, "Babe, nothing, really. I'm just stressed from the continuous workouts." You looked into his eyes, trying to read his emotions. "I hope it's nothing. I don't like seeing you so tense" you said, moving closer to hug him. "Don't worry, after this match, we'll have some free time" he said, letting Lily out of his arms. "Now I'm going to kick ass at everyone!" he added, making Lily giggle.
In the end, thanks to Chris' decisive goal, your team won the match. You immediately went to the locker room with Nick and Matt, and as soon as you entered, you saw Chris on one knee with a box in his hand.
His teammates were standing behind him, holding up a sign that read, "Do we spend the rest of our lives together?" You felt tears welling up in your eyes as Chris slowly approached you, holding Lily's hand. "Oh, God, what does it mean?" you asked, your voice shaking. "It means that I love you more than anything in the world" Chris said, opening the box to reveal a beautiful little ring. "I'm so lucky to have you, and I can't imagine my life without you" You nodded, tears streaming down your face. "I think it's not a ring that decides forever, but we are dictating our future, and I want to spend it with you...
...Will you marry me?" Chris asked, looking into your eyes. You nodded, barely able to speak, and then said, "Yes, Chris, yes!" You kissed him passionately, while his teammates cheered behind him, happy for their friend and his new fiancée.
While Lily was bouncing by your legs ''I love you so much'' Chris said, hugging both of you.
Dream girl part 9
Sidney Crosby x Reader
Masterlist
A/N: This is it guys, the final part! Thank you so much for all your support. I had no intentions of ever turning the daydreams I had of Sidney Crosby into actual words, let alone a serie, but this is all thanks to you. I hope you enjoy the last part as much as I did while writing it!
Sidney was on fucking fire. This goal was his third point of the night, and this was an important game. The Penguins’ spot in the playoffs was now secured. The crowd in Pittsburgh was roaring and jumping out off the seats and the second period wasn’t even over yet. It just felt fucking good to be alive. The goal was nice, but it wasn’t the only reason Sid was celebrating.
No, there was someone special in the crowd chanting out his name, and that changed everything. Of course, it was you. Not only were you screaming out his name just like you would again later tonight in his bed, but you were wearing his last name on your back. That, ladies and gents, was a damn good motivator for him.
As soon as he spotted you in the crowds during warmups, he knew that he would get first star of the game. You played the part of the WAG so well, blowing him kisses every time he was near and cheering him on. He nearly tripped because you smiled at him. It was like being back in high school, knowing his crush was there. He had to impress her, so she’d go to the prom with him. Sidney didn’t want to ask you to be his date, though. He wanted to ask you to spend the rest of your live with him.
You and him were at a weird stage that you hadn’t put a name on yet. It was practically a relationship, with him fucking you multiple times a day and it being clear that you both had feelings for the other. The fact that you lived with him also didn’t help with the confusion. Neither of you approched the subject, so it stayed that way. Still, you two shared a good thing and Sidney was okay with it. For now.
After scoring his goal, Sidney pointed to you in the crowds. The camera captured the hearts in your eyes and the entire arena got to see it. There was a wave of “ohhhs” and “awws” as he winked and you blushed, but also the sound of someone cursing out your name. It must have been your ex. Screw him. Honestly, Sid had never felt as good as he felt tonight. The girl of his dreams was wearing his jersey, and he was so fucking proud. The fact that your ex would see it during the entire game? Yeah, that was not mature, but he had to admit it added to the thrill.
“Hey, Crosby, heard you couldn’t get a girl so you had to steal your teammate’s. That’s what captains are for, right?”
Sidney whipped his head to see who had made that comment. It was some wannabe big shot from the opposite team. Asshole. Sidney didn’t bother with a reply.
Yeah, he knew he was the talk of the town, or rather the hockey community. The news that Sidney Crosby was dating someone nearly half his age that had just recently broken up with a defenseman on the Penguins spread like wildfire. Admittedly, it was pretty scandalous, and way out of character for Crosby. The meeting he had with the organization was pretty awkward, though. He confessed that he fallen in love with you after meeting you through the rookie, but he also made sure that everyone knew you had never cheated on your boyfriend, and that you left him because he was cheating. Everyone had seen the young defenseman with multiple girls on multiple occasions and Sid’s love seemed so sincere that they believed him. How could they not, when he talked about you with such admiration, like he was blessed to have you in his life?
The first week in the locker room was tense, but it went mostly well after that. (Except maybe that time when he took off his shirt and he didn’t understand why the rookie yelled “fucking hell” and the room got quiet until he noticed there were scratches all over his back and a nice little hickey on his chest. Sid was juts glad they hadn’t seen the love marks on you.)
“She’s real pretty, I’ll give you that. And so young. Can you keep her satisfied? I know that it doesn’t get easier with age, does it?” This dude was not giving up. Sidney had been in the league for many years. Could he not come up with something better than that?
“Shut the hell up, asshole. She has no complaints. Ask your wife, she’ll give you the same answer.” A few players close by chuckled. The ref blew his whistle and 87 took control of the puck.
Sidney had to admit that this last comment stung a little, even though he knew for a fact that you were more than satisfied. He had changed his pregame routine just to make sure to dedicate an hour or two for your needs. Twice that morning he fucked you senseless, so he had not lost all his skills just yet.
He was older by many, many years, but that was not an issue. Quite the opposite, actually. After being with incompetent and immature boys, a real man to reign you in was all you needed. Sidney wasn’t lying when he said he could be a daddy. It felt good to walk around with a pretty girl like you, to show you off as his. You liked showing him off too, so that was a win-win. Still, there wasn’t a title to your relationship yet and it was starting to bug him. Had you changed your mind? Did you not want him anymore? Sidney chased the thought away for now.
The second period finished with the Penguins still in the lead. Sidney looked at you and smiled when he saw you wave before heading in the locker room.
Things felt surreal. How lucky was he? A few months ago, he longed for more and was tired of never being accompanied to team events. Then, at one of those team events, he met you and immediately knew you were the one for him. His purpose on Earth was to find you, his other half. But you did not belong to him. He had to suffer through months of seeing his dream girl with another man, being the perfect girlfriend for him while he sat there in the shadows, heart heavy with misery and envy. Somehow, his prayers got answered and you realized that he was your dream man, that no one would ever love you like he loved you. Sidney would forever be grateful that he would never have to go the Penguins’ charity alone ever again. His love would always be by his side.
But his love was not his girlfriend yet.
Soon enough, the last period started. It was always fun to be nearing the end of a game with a comfortable lead. But being the star player that he was, Sidney was not done giving out his 100 percents. And that included fighting.
The asshole from the other team made his way over and Sid mentally rolled his eyes at the poor attempt at chirping that would soon come his way.
“Have you considered that she left the other dude because his entry level contract was not high enough, so she moved on to your 8.7? Tell her to not settle though, I make way more. Give her my number, will you?” He looked too smug saying it. By the way he was playing this season, he would not be getting an extension next year anyway. That boy needed to be humbled.
“Hey, just a thought. Maybe you should focus on the game instead of my girlfriend. You’re still losing by two goals.” Oh, how he liked calling you his girlfriend. It had a nice ring to it. Fiancée or wife would sound even better. Sidney focused on the game, but the other guy was not done.
“I bet if I went over and asked her to suck my dick, she’d do it. I know she’s into hockey players, and I heard she’s a gold digger and a whore.” Immediately, Sid’s gloves were off. His opponent didn’t have time to regret his comment before Sidney was on him.
He threw a first punch then grabbed him by the jersey. The other guy tried landing a few punches, but Sid’s fury was lethal. No one insults his girl like that, especially with disgusting lies. He knew that somewhere in the crowd, you were up on your feet, not having a clue that he was fighting for your honour. Sid’s rage was only amplified after that thought. A few well-placed punches later and the guy was laying on the ice, with Sidney standing on business and on him.
“Don’t ever mention her again if you can’t back your claims. You’re a fucking joke.” He added another punch for good measure. His opponent had to be escorted to the locker room. A fucking joke indeed.
Sid did get five minutes for that. He was lucky he didn’t get expelled. At least, he could now proudly add a Gordie Howe hat trick to his list of achievements. Anyway, it was worth it. When he made his way to the penalty box, he made sure to look at you, just to warn off the other players, should they get the urge to tarnish his dream girl’s reputation. Sidney was too far to see you, but he knew you were probably squirming in your seat, smiling and being so damn proud of him. He hoped you would never find out why he was fighting.
The Penguins won, and the entire arena erupted in cheers, but Sidney was only focused on you. You were jumping out of your seats, celebrating with perfect strangers, pointing to the last name on your jersey. Sidney’s legs felt weak all of the sudden. He had everything he wanted and more.
Nearly everything. Except a title.
“Hi, Sidney. You played really well today. Congrats on the win.” You were waiting for him outside of the locker room area, resting on a wall. Sid found it adorable that you were avoiding his gaze, all shy and blushing. Clearly, his little fight did wonders for you.
“Hey, my love. I’m glad you enjoyed the game.” He smiled warmly at you.
“Of course. I still feel the adrenaline, and I wasn’t even the one playing!” You were twirling your hair, a soft glow on your face. This looked like a scene straight out of a romcom. Sidney couldn’t help himself; he gave you a chaste kiss.
“Yeah? Want to burn it off at home?” He was waiting for you answer, but you were busy staring at something behind his shoulder. Sid turned and saw that your ex was sending him a death glare.
“Actually, Sid, I think I’m going to meet you there.” Your words cut the tension in half. It was like he took a cold shower. Trying to keep his cool, he took a deep breath before speaking again. “How will you get home?”
“I can give her a ride.” Fuck no. He didn’t want you to be driven home by your ex but was afraid it would come out as too possessive if he protested. “Alright, then. I’ll see you later.” Sidney swallowed his pride and walked away before you could see the hurt in his face. He thought he heard you call his name, but he didn't want to risk turning around and seeing you not looking at him.
The drive home felt like hell. He thought he had you, but here you were, slipping away again. Sidney tried sitting down but he felt restless, so he worked out, but that was no good either. In his head, a thousand scenarios were playing. What if you were to go back with him? He didn’t think he’d be able to take it.
It was now way past his bedtime, but he couldn’t sleep. You had woken up in his arms this morning in this very same bed, yet here he was, alone. The ceiling fan buzzed lightly in the background, drowning the sound of his heart shattering to pieces. He wanted to have hope, he really did, but as the minutes went by and still you were not home, Sidney kept losing it. Eventually, he fell asleep.
“Sidney? Sidney?” An angel was whispering his name and stroking his hair.
“What? What’s going on?” He tried sitting up but you caressed his cheek softly.
“Shhhhh, it’s just me.” It felt surreal to see you.
“It’s you, it’s really you. You came back.” Your eyes softened. He took a strand of your hair between two fingers, just to make sure you were really there.
“Of course I came back. Go back to sleep now, okay? I’m sorry for waking you up. I just wanted to let you know I’m back.” You kissed his forehead.
“I don’t want to sleep. I want to talk to you. I thought you would stay with him.” He finally sat up for good and you sat next to him, on the bed.
“Gosh, no, Sidney. Not anymore. He just dropped me off.”
“What, you were with him that whole time?” Now he was fully awake.
“Yes. I packed all of my remaining stuff from the condo.”
“And that’s all you did?” He tried to keep his tone neutral but obviously, his question was filled with innuendo. Although it hurt, his insecurity was valid. You did your best to reassure him.
“I promise you, Sid. We packed my stuff and we talked, that’s it. He apologized to me again and said he regretted everything that went down. I could tell he was being sincere.”
“I sure hope so, but that’s a little too late for that now. He should have been honest from the beginning.” The words were bitter.
“I know, Sidney. He also told me about the reason behind your fight.” That picked his curiosity.
“What about it?” You took both of his hands in yours and rubbed circles on them with your thumbs. At that moment, you could have gotten lost in his soft brown eyes, but you had to say those next words: “He told me what the fight was about, how you defended my honour and my reputation. He said he had never seen anyone look so furious before. He said that’s when he realized that you really love me, and that I deserve to be with someone who loves me that much.”
Sidney felt like you had finally gotten on the same rollercoaster that he was on, the same wavelenght. It was his chance to prove to you that he was your dream man.
“Of course I love you. I had never told you before because I didn’t want to scare you, but I have loved you since I first looked at you at that party, months ago. I hoped you could tell by my gestures because I couldn’t tell you, since you were with him. I have been lost ever since, and the words have nearly spilled out a thousand times. Everyday I wake up and I love you a little bit more than the day before but a little less than the next day. I’m glad he saw it, because I can’t hold it anymore. I have to say it outloud, and I want to repeat it everyday. I love you to death and more.” Sidney had never been so vulnerable before. He hoped his words were enough to make you understand the depths he would go for you. Your eyes filled with tears at his confession.
“That’s the thing, Sidney Crosby. I have realized that I love you, too. I don’t know why I was so blind before. No one makes me as happy as you. There is no one else I want to spend my days with. You are the light of my life. I will always look for you in a crowd, I will always cheer for you, and for every remaining day of my life, I will always, always, always love you.”
Sidney pulled you in for the tightest hug of your life. It felt like coming home. His arms were the safest place you could ever imagine, the most comfortable too. He was too stunned to speak. His prayers had finally been answered. Sidney loved you, and you loved him.
His dream girl was finally all his.
Ouuuu you write angst? can we get an angst drabble with one of the aot men but it's a happy or petty ending for us and not for them
here i go here i go here i gooooo🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽♀️
“ian ready for no relationship.” the excuse of excuses. the words that were always thrown your way after you’d try to convince your little “fling” that you wanted to be more. eren stood up, zipping his pants before grabbing his hoodie and heading out your dorm room. your situation was…complicated. well not really. you grew very attached to this man, looking for him at parties, going to every single one of his games, giving him your notes so he wouldn’t fail and get kicked off the team, and letting him fuck you whenever he wanted.
you were practically dating. or that’s what you thought. eren saw you as just another pretty little thing to keep his grades up and his dick wet. using you constantly while labeling it at love to keep you coming back for more. “b-but why ren?” eren dropped his shoulders, sighing before he walked back to you and raised your chin with his fingers. “you know the rules pretty. cant be tied down worrying about a girl during the season. when all of this craziness is over then we can work sum out.”
a smile bloomed on your face as you looked at eren in complete adoration. you couldn’t wait for the season to end so you could finally be with the man you love. your friends seen you as a complete idiot and they had no problem trying to shut down your delusions. “girl what don’t you get? as soon as the season ends he gon drop you like a bad habit.” “yea he’s lying to you baby.”
you shook your head as your friends annie and sasha tried to speak some sense into you. “he wouldn’t do that to me. h-he lo-” “he doesn’t love you and m’gonna prove it.” before you could reply annie pulls out her phone, clicking historias instagram story to show you what she posted in her close friends. there eren was, laying his head on her stomach with his arms wrapped around her as the rest of his body laid snug between her legs. the caption reading ‘pussy put his ass to sleep🤣’.
your eyes instantly welled with tears as you watched eren, your eren be with someone else the same way he’d be with you. annie was contemplating telling you for awhile. hoping that you’d come to your senses on your own without having to get hurt, but she just couldn’t hold it in anymore. “w-why would he-” “because historias dumber than a bag of rocks and she doesn’t mind sucking and fucking a dick that’s been in half the campus.” sasha spit.
annie wiped your tears with a napkin from her purse before standing up with you on the quad bench. “fuck him furreal. there’s so many guys that have been tryna get at you, but you’ve been oblivious to them because of eren.” you nodded your head, acting as if you were agreeing but you were really heartbroken. the three of you said your goodbyes and you went back to your room. tears flooded your pillowcase as you thought about what you had just witnessed.
you were being played by the one person you wanted. you weren’t the type to dwell on things so you decided to just leave him alone. praying that one day he gets what he deserves, but right now you wanted nothing to do with him. weeks went by since you’ve last talked to eren. he wasn’t suspicious of it since he’d usually only talk to you when he needed something anyways. covering up his absences with “practice” to keep you from pestering him.
the first couple of days were hell. nonstop crying and constant reminiscing were what filled your mornings and nights. saying you missed him was an understatement. you felt like you couldn’t live without him. you’d see him after him games, flirting with girls while looking around to make sure you weren’t watching. when he felt that the coast was clear he ended up taking one by the hand and leading her into the locker room with him.
that was your breaking point. you practically ran to your room with tears soaking your cheeks. you wanted absolutely nothing to do with this man anymore. packing all of the clothes he left there and putting them in a trash bag before throwing it outside. you were finally washing your hands of this man and your friends couldn’t be prouder. comforting you whenever you needed but also trying to get you out there more so you can finally replace that piece of shit.
as annie said, a lot of guys have tried to get at you and instead of shooting them down like you usually did, you gave one a chance. you and reiner have gotten pretty close over the last few weeks. texting almost everyday, eating lunch together, and sharing your favorite books with each other in the library as you studied. he was sweet and charming.
always paying for your lunch no matter how many times you’ve tried to return the favor, walking you all the way to your dorm after a particularly late study sesh, and holding your hand when the two of you would cross the street. he mostly did that for his enjoyment, but you didn’t mind.
the two of you weren’t dating, but your friends thought you were, given that one was barely seen without the other. “where’s your boo suge.” sasha would say when you finally hung out with your girls after three long weeks. “hush uppp. we just talking.” annie, sasha, and pieck busted out laughing before pieck leaked some information to you.
“girl you know we seen you getting your back blown out in the back of his jeep right?” your hands flew to your mouth as you gasped in shock. “yupp. saw him pulling your hair and allat right in our dorm parking lot.” sasha said as you covered your face in embarrassment before mumbling into your hands. “ooouuu yall so nosey i could strangle all three of you right now.” annie scoffed as she pulled your arms from your face.
“you think we’re dumb? you’ve been ditching us every chance you got. and when you do decide to finally hang out with us for a little, you come with a bunch hickies and a pimp walk.” all of you laughed at her last comment. rolling your eyes before checking your phone. speak of the devil.
rei🌻
‘got everything ready for movie night!’
‘waiting on you now mama💛’
you looked up from your phone, instantly getting pissed off looks from your friends. “don’t even say nun. go be wit your man. enjoy it too because this weekend you all OURS. you hear me?” you giggled as you stood from your spot on sasha’s beanbag chair. “i hear youuu. love yallll!!” each of your friends replied with “love you toos” before you left to go spend time with reiner.
“aight i got nightmare on elm street and i got fri-” “princess and the frog” reiner chuckled as you looked up at him. sitting on his bed in nothing but his t shirt that you changed into as soon as you got there. we watched that last time princess. you said you’d let me switch it up.” pink lip jutting out in a pout at he looked at you with sad eyes.
you laughed, watching this huge man with black ink dancing around his arms and chest being such a softy for you. his sweatpants hanging low on his hips as he situated himself under you on the bed. “okay then coco. i love un poco locoooo” a groan flew from his lips as he rolled his eyes at your choices. “no more disney. if i hear another song ima rip my ears off.”
the two of you ended up settling on john wick, but that didn’t really matter since it was one thirty minutes into the movie where you found yourself sleeping soundly on his chest. straddling him with your head in the crook of reiner’s neck as he played games on his phone. he was thinking about asking you to be his girlfriend soon, but he didn’t know how or when to ask.
the sound of your phone snatched him out of his thoughts. looking at the screen in disgust as he read the contact on the screen.
ren ren💚
‘yo. you up?’
he seen the name pop up and instantly got heated, knowing what he’s done to you. he made quick work to delete his number before replying.
you
‘yea what’s up?’
347-***-****
‘miss you mama🤧’
‘let me pull up on you’
“the nerve of this guy” reiner thought as a quick idea came up into his head. first he checked on you, making sure you were still deep in your slumber before taking a picture of your sleeping figure on his hard chest. sending it with a smirk as he watched erens typing bubble pop in and out of the chat. reiner dropped the phone back on the bed, figuring he just wasn’t going to answer until he heard a bunch of vibrations start coming in. texts popping up left and right and he scrolled through each of them.
347-***-****
‘wyd y/n?’
‘man you so lame for that fr’
‘how you just gon give my pussy away like that?’
‘he never gon be able to fuck you like i do’
‘cmon baby don’t pass up a relationship with me…’
‘i swear i’ll never text historia again’
‘or any other bitch’
‘she could never amount to you ong baby’
‘baby?’
‘text me back y/n :(‘
‘at least still study with me…historia’s so dumb i’ll get kicked off the team fasho’
*caller blocked*
reiner put your phone on his nightstand before laying you on you your side. kissing you on the cheek before cuddling up behind you and falling asleep as well.
My Hand and You
Stina Blackstenius x Reader ; Katie McCabe x Reader (platonic)
Summary: You woke up with a feeling of indiscernible dread, indiscernible, that is, until your match with Man City.
Word count: 3.3k
Warnings ⚠️: injury description
A/N: I'm in my stina era lol - this can be read as a sort of companion to my other stina piece, but its not necessary to read to understand. As usual my work is not meant to depict or speculate on players personal lives!
-------------------------------------
You had a bad feeling about the day ahead the second you woke up.
The London air hung heavy outside of your window, the heat bearing down on you already. The other side of the bed was empty. Your girlfriend had flown in last night from Stockholm. You hadn’t seen her in nearly two weeks since she’d been back in Sweden to see her family during the break. You could’ve gone home to Germany, but opted to stay in London and train a bit more before your next game. It was a big one, and you still didn't feel that you were in good form. Katie had invited you over a couple times before she went to Ireland, but mostly you’d been alone.
Stina was worried, you knew. You got lonely easily, something you never had been able to grow out of no matter how old you were. Your sister joked occasionally that you had no object permanence, like a baby. When you couldn’t see anyone for a while, it was as if you were totally alone in the world.
So Stina had been texting often, and you had tried to call every other day. But she could tell you were still down. Especially when you hadn’t accepted her offer to stay the night when she landed. Your apartment was considerably farther from the airport than hers, and you knew she needed as much sleep as possible. You told yourself accepting would be selfish. You would see her in the morning.
Your second alarm went off, demanding you get out of bed. You pushed open the window and ran a brush through your hair, wishing you’d slept better. It didn’t take long to wash your face and pull your hair back in an updo. You had half an hour before you had to leave, and you spent most of it cleaning up your apartment for when Stina came over later. You were never really all that hungry early in the day—something your girlfriend and your coach admonished you for—so you decided just to have a cup of tea and a yogurt before throwing on your kit and heading out.
Practice was supposed to be light that day. You had a game against Man City that night, and there was no point in any injuries before any of you got into the stadium. You took the tube instead of your car, preferring the time to think with your headphones on instead of focusing on the morning traffic.
“Hey!” Katie wrapped you in a tight hug as you strolled into the locker room. You two were the only ones in so far, which was unusual. More often you two were the last ones to arrive. You returned her embrace, for some reason nearly on the verge of tears as she patted your back. Maybe the weeks alone had done more to your mood than you thought.
“How you feeling?” She asked, pulling her cleats out of her bag to lace them up.
You shrugged.
“Fine. Not much to report.” You chuckled, but it came out a bit hollow.
Katie looked like she was about to press the subject, but then in strolled a few of your other teammates, giving you a chance to slip out onto the field and begin stretching.
The sun was beating down on your back and you were sweating within minutes of starting your warm ups. Jonas seemed impressed at how early you were on the pitch, and the two of you joked a bit before he sent you off to pair up with Lia.
You liked the Swiss girl plenty. She was probably one of the nicest people you’d ever met, which meant of course she pulled you aside a few minutes into your warmup to ask if you were feeling okay. You explained that you hadn’t slept well last night, and she seemed to let it go and return to your drills.
You were so distracted you nearly missed Stina walking out onto the pitch.
She gave you a wave and a bright smile, and you wished you could run over and give her a kiss. But the two of you were keeping things secret(ish) for now. It wasn’t that you didn’t want your teammates to know, but for now it just felt more secure to keep things private. Stina was so reserved anyway, and you weren’t one to thrust your private life into the spotlight either. It was moments like these though where you knew being in the open would be easier. Then nobody would question why your eyes went to her every time she was on the field, or why you ran to her first when things went south.
Your sour mood alleviated slightly as you went through your drills and practiced your set pieces. You got to work with Stina and Katie in some stroke of dumb luck, and you always enjoyed watching your girlfriend shoot. Before you knew it, it was afternoon and time to eat, shower, and get on the bus for the match.
---------------------------------------------------
By the time you had arrived at the stadium, the game loomed heavily in your mind. You weren’t sure why. Usually you were overjoyed at the prospect of getting out in front of the fans and playing the sport you loved so much. But tonight you dreaded seeing your name in the starting nine. Sure enough though, there you were.
Stina sat with you in the locker room as the team prepped for the match. Katie, who was captaining tonight, gathered everyone together to say a few words and encourage you all before you went on the field. You sent her a smile and a thumbs up as people started filtering out into the tunnel, but you stayed behind to triple check your laces—a ritual you had to do before each game. Stina remained next to you quietly, letting you finish before she put a hand on your neck softly and pulled you close.
You cherished moments like this. They came so little when you were out in public together that you had to. Her fingers played with the wisps of hair at the nape of your neck and you could practically feel the concern rolling off of her in waves.
“Will you tell me what’s wrong tonight? Can we talk about it?”
You nodded, not wanting to hide anything from her.
“Don’t worry, it’s nothing serious. I’m just…” you weren’t sure how to describe it.
Stina placed a kiss on your knuckles and nodded.
“Come on, they’re gonna start wondering where we are.”
---------------------------------------------------
The first half was relatively uneventful. Alessia and Gio both scored, putting you in a good position by the time half was called. And you had played well, assisting Gio's goal. Your passes were strong. It was only your head that was the problem. Something was still nagging at you. Some intuition that told you something back was going to happen. Viv felt like that sometimes, you’d heard, and Beth told her not to pay attention to it. If you spent all your time worrying about what-ifs, you would never set foot on the pitch again.
So you tried to put your worries out of your mind. Stina sat next to you on the bench at half, discreetly holding your hand and rubbing her thumb across your skin. You knew the girls could tell you were off, and Jonas even asked if you needed to be subbed off. You assured him that no, you absolutely did not need to be subbed off. Your playing certainly wasn’t suffering, so why should you be asked to sit out?
You closed your eyes and took a few deep breaths, remembering what your therapist had recommended when you felt untethered. This wasn’t exactly like that, but you figured that it would help either way. That and the feeling of Stina so close to you, worrying and ready to jump to your defense at any moment, eased the feeling a bit. For the moment anyway.
Once the break was over and everyone was resuming their positions on the field, you felt the dread return. It moved through you like ice cold water. It was like being on a roller coaster, the drop of your stomach for no reason. But you swallowed the anxiety and pushed forward. Running for the ball, seeing your teammates out maneuver and best the Man City players brought a smile to your face. You loved this team, these girls.
The game was nearly over, the score 2-1 Arsenal with a win in sight, when everything went downhill.
Morgan was locked on you. You couldn’t take more than a few steps without her trailing you, and it was starting to piss you off. Finally, you got the chance to break away thanks to a great pass from Pelova that had you racing down the right side of the pitch so you could set up one of the forwards. Your adrenaline was pumping, the sound of the fans screaming filled your ears, you didn’t even have time to think as your body took over, pushing the ball forward in front of you and running as fast as you could.
You saw your chance with a flash of blonde hair out of the corner of your eye. Stina was coming up the middle, nearly unguarded. You shot the ball towards her, barely getting a chance to see her beautiful goal as you felt the weight of another player slam into you. For a split second, you weren’t worried. A late tackle wasn’t all that uncommon, and the player had just been trying to block the pass. But then you hear a crunch, and excruciating pain rippled upwards from your ankle. Immediately you went down, a scream forcing its way out of your mouth before you could even think of stopping it. You couldn’t really seem to think of anything except the pain. The cheers from the fans continued, your scream likely not as loud as you thought it had been.
The defender popped back up, and you caught a glimpse of her horrified face as she looked down at you. You didn’t even want to try to move, much less get up. The stadium seemed to quiet, and you weren’t sure if it was the pain blocking your senses as you went into shock, or reality. You rolled over onto your side, curling in on yourself to try and lessen the pain. You pressed your face into the grass, trying desperately not to cry. You knew the cameras would be on you any second, and you would rather nobody witness what you’d been reduced to.
A shaking hand picked up yours and held it tightly. You tried to open your eyes to see who it was, greeted by the sight of your girlfriend’s worried face looking down at you.
“Stina…” you whimpered.
She bit her lip and looked upwards, clearly trying not to cry as well as she heard the pain in your voice.
“Stina, I think it’s broken.”
You were crying now, trying to hide your face with your intertwined hands.
Stina had seen you go down just a split second after her goal. Caitlin had quickly jumped up to give her a hug, obscuring you from her view for a few seconds as she waited for you to pop back up. But you were still on the ground once Caitlin had let go, and you were still there after the defender got up and offered you her hand. It was then that she realized you weren’t going to get up, that perhaps you couldn’t. Then nothing else mattered. She started off towards you, all giddiness from her goal gone and replaced with dread. She thought about your mood all day, about how you’d been drifting away for the past two weeks, and now this. Stina rushed past everyone, running as fast as she ever had until she could get on the ground next to you.
The sight of you broke her heart. You hardly seemed to know what was going on, but tear tracks were evident on your face. Stina risked a glance at your ankle, which was swelling and bloody. Clearly the defender had caught it with her studs first before the two of you went down. White-hot rage coursed through Stina’s chest unlike she could ever remember feeling. But Katie was already doing more than enough to scream at the defender, and you needed her.
“It’s okay älskling,” She stroked your hair with her free hand, “everything is going to be okay.”
The medics were on their way over, a stretcher in hand. Stina had to bite her lip once more at the implication of it. You didn’t deserve this.
Before the medics arrived a blue kit appeared in Stina’s line of sight: it was the defender, coming back to see if you were all right. She looked genuinely upset, clearly having not intended your injury. But it didn’t matter. The defender leaned down to put a hand on your shoulder before Stina batted it away, snapping at her to get away. The Man City player looked sufficiently scared off, particularly since Stina was known for her calm demeanor.
The medics suddenly swarmed, rolling you over onto your back carefully and beginning to assess your ankle. Your face scrunched up in pain, a few more tears leaking out as they gently prodded at your injury. Stina let you squeeze her hand as hard as you needed, gritting her teeth when the medics began cleaning the bloody cuts.
Apparently they’d been asking Stina to back up so they could lift you, though she couldn’t hear a word.
“Come on, Stina, we’ve got to let them work.”
Katie’s hand came to rest on her shoulder, pulling her back gently.
“I can’t—I’m not letting her go off alone.”
“I know, I know.” Katie nodded, “But they’ve got to put her on the stretcher, hun.”
Stina let go of your hand and back up a step or two, still keeping an eye on you. She heard Amanda arrive behind her, speaking to her in Swedish quickly. But Stina didn’t reply—all she had the energy for was making sure you were okay.
“Okay, everyone give us some space!” The medics called, lifting the stretcher and beginning to move you. You moved your head slightly, searching for Stina’s eyes one last time before you left the field. She met your gaze, eyes teary, and quickly pursed her lips in a kiss. You tried to give her a smile, hoping desperately that this was not as bad as you thought it was.
Once you were off the field the players milled around, unsure what to do. There were still a few minutes on the clock, though nobody seemed enthused about continuing. Stina in particular, hadn’t moved from her spot, Amanda rubbing her back. Everyone knew how close the two of you were—well not quite how close—but it wasn’t all that surprising how intensely Stina reacted. She looked lost, plain and simple.
“She needs to be subbed off.” Katie said to Jonas quietly, pointing to Stina. Not that he needed the guidance, it was fairly obvious that the forward was going to be of no use to the team for the next few minutes.
Jonas gestured for Stina to come off and she did without protest. All she really wanted to do was follow you to the medical rooms. Katie opened her arms for Stina, letting the taller blonde fall against her and bury her face in Katie’s neck.
“She’s gonna be alright, Stina. Don’t you worry.”
Stina nodded against her skin, trying to pull herself together.
“Why don’t you go check on her in the med room?” Jonas suggested, giving Stina a firm pat on the shoulder. “We can hold it down here for the next few minutes.” He flashed her a reassuring smile.
---------------------------------------------------
You were sure your ankle was broken. There was no denying that. But fuck, you hadn’t imagined it hurting this bad.
You had come to a bit more after the shock wore off, all of the pain of your injury rushing into your chest at full force. The medics were doing their best to be gentle you knew, and the poor woman doing your stitches was having a hell of a time with all your twitching. Your ankle was the size of a fist, it was some miracle that they were even able to get your boot off. After they had cleaned up the blood on your skin it was clear you would need a couple stitches before they sent you to the hospital for x-rays.
You were pulled out of your head by a commotion outside the door, after which your girlfriend burst into the room. You felt like you might cry all over again, so relieved by the sight of her. She looked frazzled, eyes wide, still in her kit and sweaty from the game. You reached out a hand for her. Wanting her as close as possible.
One of the nurses stood up to tell her off, but the look in your eyes must have made her take pity on you because she just sighed and let Stina come closer.
“Oh älskling…” she brought a hand up to your hair and stroked your forehead. “Tut es sehr weh?” She asked you in German, wanting to keep the conversation private. In that moment you appreciated her ability to pick up what you were saying so quickly more than you ever had before.
You nodded. It did hurt, a lot. It felt like your entire leg was on fire every time someone so much as brushed against it.
“I’m going to start stitching the last cut, it’s the deepest so it’s going to take a little longer.” The medic told you. You gave a half hearted thumbs up in response, preparing yourself for the incoming pain. Stina readjusted her hand around yours.
“Just squeeze my hand. I’m here. Allt är okej, alles gut.” She pressed her forehead to yours softly, flashing you a smile.
You grimaced as they began. It took all of your willpower not to kick the medic away. It hurt too much to bear. Your eyes were closed and you just tried to focus on Stina’s soft words—a mixture of English, Swedish, and German—and her hand in yours.
Stina could hardly keep looking at you. Silent tears streamed down her face, finally let free after the stress of the past twenty minutes. She hated seeing you in so much pain, wanted to take it all from you desperately. She gladly would’ve switched positions with you, sure that a broken bone would hurt less than seeing you try not to scream in pain before her.
“All right, that’s it.” The medic assured you after what felt like a lifetime. You were sure Stina’s hand would be sore tomorrow, something you were going to have to apologize for.
“We’re going to take her to the hospital and have some scans done, but it’s my bet that the ankle is broken,” the medic spoke to Stina, “you can come, but you’re going to have to wait in the waiting room. You can’t come in with her.”
“Okay.” Stina said, her voice firm. The medic turned and left the room, leaving the two of you alone.
“Stina,” you whimpered for what felt like the hundredth time that day. Never did Stina think her heart would hurt at the sound of her name coming out of your mouth. “If it’s broken I’ll be out for months. I’ll miss half the season.”
Stina kissed your hand, pressing it to her chest.
“Whatever happens, I’m here. I’m here for you whether you’re playing or not. You aren’t going to have to do this alone, you hear me? I’m gonna be in the waiting room every time.”
A few tears leaked out of the corner of your eye and you nodded, feeling a bit more like the world wasn’t about to end. Or if it was, at least you’d be by her side.
