Sunday WIP Update - 29th of September

I'm thinking about making this a thing, for my own accountability mostly, but also to update anyone who might be interested! I'm only listing those for which I can give somewhat of a timeline but of course, everything is subject to change.

LONGFICS:

The next chapter of Brilliant Steel (AO3) is in beta reading and will be out over the next following days.

The next chapter of Astronomical Odds (AO3) is on the home stretch and ideally out the upcoming week.

The next and final chapter of A Fairytale Of A Disaster has been drafted and should be out next week the latest.

The next chapter of For Centuries (AO3) is about halfway done. I would love to finish it next weekend but we shall see.

SYNOPSIS

Location Unknown, Michigan, USA.  Aperture released her, set her free. That ought to have been the end of it. But cast out into a world rendered unrecognizable after a mass extinction level event, Chell is forced to fend for herself, navigating a war-torn world in the aftermath of the seven hour war that devastated the states in a bygone era.  Mere days into her newfound experience on the surface, Chell finds bizarre technology inside a Michigan radio tower, discovering that the same interdimensional forces that started the war were still around, scouring the area in search of technology from the facility she hoped to never see again — Aperture Science.  With no choice but to go back to the facility to deliver a dire warning, Chell tightropes on the cusp of two worlds, unaware of the consequences of pursuing the past and surviving an uncertain future alongside an unlikely ally.

It's finally here!! A former roleplay thread with @sarcasticgaypotato turned novel, this story follows the events of Half Life 2: Episode 2, and is an inspired continuation of the ending of Half Life: Alyx from the perspective of everyone's favorite Aperture-dwelling characters. Chell, whose mission is to protect Aperture technology from getting in the hands of the Combine, must also act as GLaDOS's protector and keep her safe. GLaDOS, on the other hand, has to figure out the complicated ways of the world from a new perspective - literally. This story is friendly to those who don't know Half-Life lore, and a treat for those who do! This story is a close-to-canon survival novel fic with ChellDOS as a major focus. Full of survival, interactive elements, complicated feelings, and a beautiful slow burn robot/human love story. <3

Hm... I'm often lost on the occasions I've felt romantic attraction as well, given how rare it is for me... Perhaps you could use your unique arcane bond to bring him into a magical prison with you? Then you'd have plenty of time alone together. Or perhaps spend months in agonizing pining and growing affection until he shapeshifts into your former lover and you vent all your feelings at him?

That's what has generally worked for me.

thinking about how powerful i was even in ancient tumblr times when some folk really thought that drath was born sexy yesterday and had it in their minds that by the simple action of their muse thinking drath was beautiful was ground breaking and enough to make her gasp and fall in love only for her to turn around and be like "you're stating the obvious. i'm hot. i'd fuck me. i'm still going to eat y-"

Listening to his playlist and god. He somehow still wants to be loved, still believes in love at least a little bit, deep down. He has throns and walls up. He's not immediately trusting and is quick to get irritated at anyone being to pushy. Hates randomly being touched by strangers or people he is not explicitly comfortable with.

But god is he touch starved. Craves gentle affection, and is still foolish enough to still have hope. If asked he'll probably say he's given up on love, but that's a lie. It's all he wants. But he doesn't believe he deserves it at this point. All thanks to one man who drilled it into him for nearly 3 years.

You think maybe your words were muffled in what you said, and you step back, force yourself to look up at Fay, whose eyes twinkle with malevolent merriment.  “You don’t…you don’t get it,” you say, trying to make her understand.  “He’s gonna talk with those soldier people and everything, and then I’m not supposed to see you ever, ever again.  Papa’s gonna make them change their minds!”

“Oh, my dear girl.”  Fay’s eyes still twinkle.  “Your papa is not going to do any such thing.  He might try.  Men always try those sorts of things, especially when they have as much sway as your papa seems to think he has.  But he won’t be able to keep you away from me, my child.  He doesn’t have the power.”  She smiles at you in a way that should be comforting but still happens to send a shiver down your back either way.

while most of the verses/contexts i’ve written her in so-far default to Honey being relatively ‘true-to-her-looks’ with age, something I like very much about her is that... she doesn't change very much– even in the cases where she has been hawking her wares and globetrotting for up-to several centuries, Honey remains bubbly, largely 'care-free,' and hopelessly infatuated as ever.

I like this because it's dichotomous to the (understandably) cool, aloof, or otherwise cautious immortals/semimmortals who temper their feelings, their attachments; who've become wisened and weary upon seeing the ages of what mankind (and otherwise) can offer, after enduring so much suffering and loss, on repeat.

maybe she bottles some of it up— and maybe that's why it's important that she have some similarly-long-lived friends to share that sadness with, someone who understands— but, by and large? Honey's experiences in time reinforce many of her "ideals" as they already stand: striving to live, laugh, and enjoy every moment. if she only has a comparably-short timeframe with someone, that's just all the more reason to try and make it good time; to make memories which will stay with her long after the person she made them with is gone.

been scrolling through my dashboard for a few days now and i gotta say i really miss the indie community, i loved creating characters and interacting with my friends and coming up with huge detailed stories for our children... but i also remember being very frustrated by pretty much everyone else that i hadn’t pre-plotted with and not getting the satisfaction of development that i wanted so badly. i really want to come back and spend a ridiculous amount of time rebuilding my muse roster but i don’t know if it’ll be emotionally satisfying after it all.
