Why I've learned to take Goldilocks' approach to interpreting planet & house placements in astrology

Disclaimer: There will be some theory here, some anecdotes, and more than my fair share of yapping, but all I care about is that this makes a positive impact for even one person. Then I'll be glad I didn't leave it in the drafts. :) Also, it's almost 3 AM as I write this, so do with that information what you will LOL.

People tend to over-complicate or oversimplify the planets and houses in astrology. As someone who likes to produce and consume information at the same temperature Goldilocks likes her porridge, I've decided to abandon more pressing matters (my assignment due tomorrow and the 14 asks in my inbox) and talk instead about what approach to astrology I consider to be "just right."

One key thing to remember is that the majority of your natal chart is not actually about you. I know the lions, crabs, water bearers and maidens especially all squirmed a bit, but hear me out. The 1st house and the luminaries (Sun and Moon) are completely about you. YOUR ideals, inner self, core desires, and emotional needs. The way YOU present yourself to the world. These make up your character - the skin you're in, your core personality traits, and your favorite self-imposed customizations. The remaining inner planets (Mercury, Venus, and Mars) and angular houses (4th, 7th, and 10th) still pertain to you, of course, but if you think about it, they extend much further outside of yourself and into various aspects of life and society.

Mercury describes how you think, but also how you communicate those thoughts with others and what kinds of conversations or intellectual environments you thrive in.

Venus shows how you define and express love (or what expressions of love you're drawn to), but also tells you about the kinds of connections you may attract or want to attract (platonic, romantic, etc).

Mars describes how you express emotions like anger and excitement, but also how you move towards (or away from) different people, places and things in life.

The 4th house describes your approach and views on what home and family should look like.

The 7th house reveals what you desire in a spouse, a soulmate or a trusted business partner.

The 10th house describes your attitude towards career and how you "show up" in work environments.

Yes, these are all technically "you," but anything outside of your sun, moon and ascendant placements are less concerned with analyzing and describing you, the lone individual and more concerned with describing the personas you assume to navigate everything else in life. There is a reason why there is one house of "self" and 11 houses meant to guide you through the bigger world outside of you.

I believe fewer people would fly into a panic over things in their natal and synastry charts if they understood that many aspects won't affect them as strongly as they think, especially between outer planets or at weak orbs.

You know, out of curiosity, I looked up the charts of my childhood friends recently. First, the ones born the same year or so as me. Then I broadened my observations outward up to 10 years (I have had a few friends within that many years older or younger than me). If you love astrology as much as I do and haven't tried this yourself yet, you'd be fascinated by how similar charts can be between people all born within certain time periods. With my friend groups, most charts were nearly identical-looking from Uranus to Pluto. The closer in age, the more there were charts that looked nearly the same from as far up as Saturn or Jupiter right on down. Nearly all my age-mates have Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn, Pluto in Scorpio, Saturn in Pisces or Aquarius and Lilith in Taurus or Aries. Half my friend group has Venus in Libra or Scorpio and the other half in Aries or Gemini. I was even surprised by how many of my same-age friends have Lilith in Taurus and Juno in Scorpio like I do. Whenever we all let go of our masks and speak freely and openly, it's quite humbling and also soothing to realize that many of our experiences and struggles really aren't all that unique after all. Perhaps this isn't such good news to an Enneagram 4 (:D) but, generally I think we all do crave that feeling that we're not the only ones going through something.

I share this to illustrate one simple point: the chances are high that the placements/aspects associate with your outer planets will not have the strongest DIRECT impact on you individually. You and others in your peer group are likely in the same big boat or a bunch of matching lifeboats paddling away from the same generational shipwrecks. A similar thing can be said about the succedent (2nd, 5th, 8th, 11th) and cadent houses (3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th). They have more to do with everyTHING and everyONE else in your life and how you relate/react/respond to it all. This is why I'm so against the way many astrology explanations and observations are written. I'm not talking about posts meant to be more entertaining or personal than educational. I'm talking about the posts where you can tell the OP meant for them to be taken 100% seriously, but do little more than spook or scare those who know less than they do.

Last year I met a coworker who asked me to read a synastry chart for her. She wanted a 2nd opinion besides her own, as she had some 12th house synastry with the person and had been in emotional limbo for days because of it. I told her that the direction of the connection was up to her and the person - the charts only show the possibilities - what the beautiful, the good, the bad, and the ugly could look like within that aspect. What did she do? She went to see him, yelled at him for things he hadn't even done yet that she "knew" he was "going to do" because his moon was in her 12th and then blocked him. Came to work as sour as a lime yet excitedly telling me that she had set boundaries with him. Had to bite my tongue; I wanted to say the only thing she set up was an obstacle.

It is so easy to become obsessed with searching for highly specific answers or predictions for day to day life in astrology and that's just not what its for. At least, not in my opinion.

No one is immune to this either.

Let me tell you about the last major time I fell into this trap. This was around 2020. At that time, I noticed 2nd house synastry with my then-partner and immediately sabotage the entire connection. How? Oh, well, because my overstimulated and uninformed pea brain would assume all sorts of things, such as, "Oh they're just with me to eventually try to move in and then get lazy and expect me to pay for everything and drain all my resources." Do these things happen? Of course. Does it make any sense to assume this WILL be the case the moment anyone has their inner planets in my 2nd house? Nope. But I didn't know better and was "too busy" to do my research, so what did I do? Assumed the worst. All the while not really seeing what was going on in front of me. Stumbling over the evidence to pursue a theory instead. And I ended up hurting someone I truly cared about.

Had I slowed down and taken a balanced approach, I would have noticed that while this person had Mercury, Venus and Jupiter in my 2nd house, he also had Mars trine (0°) and Saturn conjunct (4°) my Moon, which to put it simply, would have led me to the bigger, more accurate picture.

So, yes, I had a boyfriend who admired my talents, felt attracted to my generosity and "expensive" looking style (even though I exclusively bargain shop).

Yes, he was very much drawn to the fact that I have an eye for opportunity and manage to be in the right place at the right time to take advantage of them.

However, I failed to notice the part where his Virgo Mars was in harmony with my Capricorn moon. He knew without needing to ask that I really didn't want to be running around handling things all the time the way I've had to for nearly all my adult life. He knew I wanted to feel secure with someone and taken care of at least part of the time, for once. I was too busy panicking over apparent "bad" synastry to notice any of that early on. I didn't notice either that, as the Saturn person, he felt a heavy sense of responsibility for me that cancelled out any reverse gold digging tendencies.

He rarely wanted anything from me and had a hard time accepting gifts or help, yet he offered me both all the time. I didn't always know exactly what things he was stressed about because he spoke another language with his family, friends and business partners, and he usually didn't want to unload it on me, though I told him he could always vent if he needed to and I'd be there to listen. Which I was. But my mistake was getting carried away in misinterpretations and misuse of our astrology information, assuming things like "oh he's saying all this but it's probably future faking," "'he's rarely, if ever affectionate, like on our first dates, I guess it's just a matter of time before probation is over and the money requests are gonna start coming in while he chases someone else" and so on.

Was my ex future-faking? Maybe. Maybe not. I'll never know because I fully assumed that he was. That showed in my behavior which eventually started to reflect in his behavior too, when he got tired of feeling like I would never believe anything he promised to me and that nothing he did would be enough to make me fully trust him. That would break anybody, honestly.

Was he really waiting around to get comfortable and start relying on me for money? Maybe. Maybe not. But he never did. Any money he borrowed, he returned without me having to ask. If I came over, he'd hand me his card for anything I wanted to order. If I used my own card instead, he was actually offended. In fact, he hated when we'd go out and I'd look for the cheapest of everything. The least expensive dish. The dress on sale. If he insisted on paying, I'd try to cover the tip or pay for something else later to keep it even.

But why? Why do that? Oh, well, I had seen that his Saturn was in my 8th house - the house of shared resources - and my overthinking hyper-vigilant ass decided that I needed to "prove" that I wasn't a liability or something. Never mind that the Saturn-Moon conjunction was RIGHT THERE to tell me to relax and not assume the worst outcome for the 8H synastry ...no, no, I just flew right off the deep end and assumed that if I didn't assert (micro) dominance in some way, he'd spoil me long enough for me to get used to it, then start controlling me financially and so on.

Years later, I wonder often if things would have turned out better if I had just calmed the fuck down. If I had let things play out naturally, keeping in mind what COULD happen without acting as if it was BOUND to happen. You know what the worst part about that is? I don't think most of us realize how powerful self-fulfilling prophecies really are sometimes. The negative (and positive) interpretations you can take away from planet and house interpretations are simply possibilities; potential outcomes that will only go that way if fed and watered. I won't step too far into territory I haven't mastered, but I'd like to think it's safe to say the same goes for tarot readings as well.

To sum up this mammoth post

I believe astrology is meant to be only a guide; a helpful resource as you go through the stages of life. It should be your training wheels, not the whole bike. Your driving instructor, not your daily chauffeur. The salt that brings out the flavor in a dish-not the whole dish itself. I think if more of us understood this, there wouldn't be so much fearmongering and generalizations about which aspects and houses are the "villain" in the astrology community.

○ Complications involving joint finances - Saturn rules over challenges and the 8th house rules over shared finances. With this placement it’s best to keep your money separate and not have a joint account

○ Challenges involving death - Saturn rules over challenges. The 8th house rules over death. Ex: My friend had this in a composite chart with her ex bf and they broke up because the death of his mom was causing him a lot of pain and he no longer wanted to be in a relationship

○ Growth from fears - Saturn rules over fears and the 9th house rules over growth

○ Critical of each other’s beliefs - Saturn rules over challenges and the 9th house rules over beliefs. This can cause differences in beliefs which lead to struggles in the relationship/friendship

○ Lack of growth when together - Saturn rules over lack and the 9th house rules over growth. You two will help each other get passed fears you have

○ Struggles in relationship/friendship due to long distance - Saturn rules over struggles and the 9th house rules over travel

○ Can indicate you work together or have the same career - Saturn rules over working and the 10th house rules over career

○ Challenges in relationship/friendship caused by your career - Saturn rules over challenges and the 10th house rules over career. Someone in the relationship/friendships career could take up too much of their time to where you don’t see each other often

○ Challenges occurring due to father/father figure - Saturn rules over challenges and the 10th house rules over the father. This can mean one of your fathers gets in the way of your friendship/relationship in some way

○ Challenges involving authority - Saturn rules over challenges and the 10th house rules over bosses. This can mean one person causes conflict by being too bossy

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝟏𝟏𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞

○ You have a serious/mature approach to social situations together - Saturn rules over maturity and the 11th house rules over socialization

○ You prefer to isolate yourself from social situations when together - Saturn rules over isolation and the 11th house rules over socialization

○ You prefer not to post on social media together - Saturn rules over restriction and the 11th house rules over technology

○ Difference in desires which can lead to difficulties in the relationship/friendship - Saturn rules over challenges and the 11th house rules over desires

○ Struggles involving difference in political views - Saturn rules over struggles and the 11th house rules over politics

○ Challenges that come from friendships - Saturn rules over challenges and the 11th house rules over friendships. It can indicate that a friend gets in the way of your friendship or relationship with this person

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝟏𝟐𝐭𝐡 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞

○ The relationship/friendship does well in all Saturn related topics - According to Planetary Joy, Saturn is happiest in the 12th house which means the relationship will do well regarding Saturn related topics such as maturity, responsibility, longevity, consistency, effort, etc.

○ Long term relationship/friendship - Saturn also rules over longevity and the 12th house rules over old age so it can mean the relationship (whether it be platonic or romantic) is long lasting

○ Self sacrificing for one other and deep spiritual connection - Saturn rules over reliability and the 12th house rules over spirituality as well as selflessness

○ Difficulties with being apart/attachment issues - Saturn rules over struggles/challenges and the 12th house rules over isolation. One person may struggle to give the other their alone time

○ Secretly disliking certain things in your relationship but never resolving it/discussing it - Saturn rules over challenges and grudges. The 12th house rules over “the hidden”

○ Unexplainable negative vibes - Saturn rules over challenging energy and the 12th house rules over “the hidden”. It can indicate often there will be times in your friendship or relationship where there’s no way for you to explain it but something is off but since you can’t find the source it stays unresolved

Okay imagine Solomon being upset and jealous that MC doesn’t have a mark of his own on their body, MC notices this fact and gets the mark of Solomon tattooed onto their body. I’ve been so obsessed with this idea ever sense Solomon became my no.1 favorite character ever.

Solomon would be pleased on the outside, absolutely thrilled on the inside. I think having his own mark would satiate that jealousy, because now having his own mark on your body shows the world that you have a strong bond of trust and care. Just as you do with the brothers, if not more so.

I know many people have different headcanons about where each of the brothers' marks are on their MC's body, which usually have some sort of meaning. I suppose it's up to preference where you'd want to be permanently tattooed, but what if you got it in an area that was special to both of you?

Trying to be as inclusive as I can to everybody's headcanons of the brothers' marks, so take these with a grain of salt or come up with your own! :)

Perhaps Solomon has disclosed with you a certain part of your body that he just adores, an area he often touches in moments when it's just the two of you. Rubbing your knuckles or kissing the back of your hand when watching movies together, caressing the small of your back while you read over a passage from one of his spell books, right behind your ear where he rubs soft circles as you drift off to sleep in his bed, or brushing his lips against your shoulder as he holds you from behind while you make dinner.

Getting his mark in an area he dotes over, one that he never fails to touch or lavish with kisses in those near ritualistic moments, would be the ultimate gesture. Because for him, it would be an indication that the small things he does in the time he is granted with you mean something to you. They're special to you too.

That's the fluffy, sentimental version. Now I kinda want to explore the logistical or rational placing of his mark.

I was looking at the seal of Solomon, and noticed two things: the symbol for Saturn (the one that looks like an awkwardly drawn n) and the symbol for Mars (which interestingly enough, the Mars symbol seems to have the Sun's symbol in it as well. Mars is the "male" symbol, while the Sun is a circle with a dot in the center).

For quick reference, Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius in traditional astrology - representing structure and discipline. Mars rules both Aries and Scorpio in traditional - representing drive and passion. And I'll go ahead and do the Sun's as well, it rules Leo - representing the ego.

Now, I mention this for one reason: medical astrology. Each part of the body (and its systems within) are ruled by a sign (quick fire examples: Capricorn - knees, Aquarius - calves, Aries - head, Scorpio - lower regions, Leo - spine). So, how impressed would he be if he realized you'd tattooed his mark in one of those areas? Just what he'd expect of his clever apprentice! (Even better if you got it on the left side of your body, as the left represents wisdom! Right is power, in case you wanted to know :)).

Perhaps by doing so, you invoke one of the qualities of those aforementioned planet rulings, like you find yourself being more responsible with the mark on your ankle or the back of your knee, maybe you're more authentic with it at the top of your spine, or more aggressive in your pursuits with it on your naval or behind your ear.

I think he'd be fascinated, and oddly flattered, that his mark influences you in a such way. Like he's indirectly influencing you. It'd be similar to how the brothers' sins on your body might make you act certain ways, like more greedy or more gluttonous.

Yeah, he'd be smitten with you and that mark wherever you end up putting it. Whatever makes you happy, as long as he has a little claim of you as well. Perhaps he'd create a mark that represents you to tattoo on his body... If there's room, ha!

So we've all heard that the Mithraeum is named after the temples of the god Mithras, who was depicted in temples in one of his key moments: the tauroctony (killing a bull). Haha, John, very funny cow joke.

But these images in Mithraism aren't just a guy killing a cow. There are also a bunch of other animals assisting, all possibly representing constellations. One ancient philosopher said a mithraeum was meant to be an image of the cosmos.

One theory about Mithraism suggests that it was rooted in Platonic ideas about cosmology - and that certainly tracks as far as relevance to Jod goes.

The ancient world had a geocentric understanding of cosmology: that is, they understood the sun to circle round the earth. In doing so, it followed a path of twelve constellations.

We understand today that the earth wobbles on its axis and that this can affect when equinoxes fall. In the ancient world, they originally thought the cosmos was eternally fixed.

The constellations referenced in a tauroctony are those that would have been on what the ancient cosmological model understood as the celestial equator during the 'Age of Taurus' - the period when this celestial equator passed through the Taurus bull. This directly preceeded the 'Age of Aries' during which the cult of Mithras began. It's worth noting that the next of these astrological ages would be the 'Age of Aquarius'...yes, that groovy Age of Aquarius where in popular belief there's the dawning of weird abilities and human mastery of the earth... Eh, I'm sure that's not relevant here...

One theory about the centrality of this shift from Taurus is because, unlike earlier theories that the planets themselves were gods, when this shifting of the equinoxes was discovered, it was thought to point towards a more powerful god who could control them. The theory goes that killing the bull - i.e. the literal shifting of the cosmological axis, moving from the Age of Taurus to the Age of Aries - symbolises this power over the cosmos. (You can see why this might also appeal to a guy who literally ate and then played dolls with the planets and then declared himself a god.)

Another part of this theory is that previously there had been a sense that the souls of the dead ascended to immortality through a convoluted passage through the stars. A god with such cosmological power would, it was thought, also have the power to convey a soul safely after death.

Mithras is often depicted holding the cosmological axis or the earth, or as Atlas holding up the sky. He is also depicted being born from a rock, a symbol of the cosmos - bursting it asunder, he is greater than the cosmos: his dominion is beyond it. Jod, the Lord Over the River, certainly makes a lot of claims about his abilities over the realms of death beyond the mortal plain.

For all the trappings of Christianity in the Nine Houses, it's interesting how in-depth a joke about a sexist mystery cult "the Mithraeum" turns out to be.

what are your headcanons for peeta’s birthday and why? here is a long post to show i like to over analyze everything

i personally think he’s older than katniss with some loose facts from the books.

we know reaping day is july 4th from TBOSAS, and we know school still goes on during the summer from katniss’s statements during the first games when she was dehydrated and looking for water (“My thoughts turn to Prim. It’s likely she won’t be watching me live, but they’ll show updates at school during lunch…”).

with this information, i think their grade levels are likely determined by reaping day. this is obviously my headcanon, but it makes sense given the most significant date for them seems to be reaping day since you enter the reaping at age 12 and are finished at 19, so having this easy system to categorize children’s eligibility for the games only seems fair. essentially, people born from july 5th one year to july 4th the following year are all in the same grade (for example, july 5, 2000 - july 4, 2001 is one grade, and those born july 5, 2001 start the next school year’s class, etc.).

with that theory, and knowing katniss’s birthday is may 8th, statistically it makes sense that peeta would be older. so this was a long winded case for me to say i think peeta is older.

however, while i think he’s older, i struggle with placing his birthday. i appreciate the fun of it, but i have very minimal knowledge on astrological signs, so i’m not sure which sign i think he is to help me place him.

going off vibes, i feel like he could fit a few months. like i could really see him being a late october birthday, but also i could see him being any winter month. i’m not sure! as someone who loves birthdays, it pains me that we don’t know his, even if it’s an insignificant detail to the greater story.

If it makes you feel any better re: being a pisces, I am more scared of pisces than I am of gemini and scorpio. Every pisces I've known lived in their own fantasy worlds/were willfully ignorant and delusional to the point that anything that interfered with their daydream was mercilessly cut out or just straight up ignored. They Could seem very sweet and nice when they wanted to, but realistically. Gemini and Scorpio always felt more outwardly sincere/easier to read to me. You don't fuck with Pisces ♓
