astro observations 2: the reasoning behind the aspects

i can’t sleep. aquarius moons tend to be anxious, especially before their first saturn return, and leading up to the second. we release this the best through either outwards expression or outwards experience (examples include writing, like i’m doing, or research/knowledge-seeking - even scrolling on social media counts) from what i’ve seen. the collective brain cell? aqua moons = orange cats.

sextile, the smallest angle (among major aspects) which is measured at ~60 degrees (refer to my degree rules to find these within your chart as per my observations) is ruled by venus. this is an easy aspect, not because it is lazy and smooth sailing, like a trine, but rather that issues are dealt with head on, and can be resolved with respect to any differences. it’s where both need to start a project, so one buys items, the other sets up an room and determines the basic process and a timeline, and the execution is done by both. make of this what you will - between two people or even two objects in one chart.

next up - square, measured at ~90 degrees is considered a difficult aspect. this is because of the fact that while any ideas are very different from each other, the application of these ideas are executed similarly (one wants to paint a picture with watercolours and the other wants oil pastels, but both plan to paint the same picture in different styles - one baroque and the other rococo as an example) and this will lead to arguments as each will think that their idea is correct and the other is not stupid, just misguided.

now for an easy aspect. picture fishing on a boat during a beautiful, colourful, sunset, with tiny, whiny mosquitoes and the sorrowful call of a cormorant nearby. almost all the quota for fish is caught, and the air is relaxed, but not fully - the fishers have had an argument over net size, but chosen to agree to disagree - one has decided to use a smaller net and the other uses a larger one, and they talk about something totally unrelated - not speaking at all about the nets, or the fact that both did an equally good job of catching the same amount, but different kinds of fish. a variety if you will. this is the energy of a trine, measured at ~120 degrees. who is it ruled by? jupiter, the planet of luck - both the fishers made their quota by sunset after all, but still chose to brush the argument and any hard feelings away - and all was fine.

next is the opposition, which, as it sounds like, is measured at ~180 degrees, and is a hard aspect. here we have long term best friends - different in appearance, differing personalities - until you realize that their outlook on life is remarkably similar. these two will constantly bicker, but go out for lunch with each other every week, and talk every day, even if it’s to bicker even more. they understand that a little struggle and disagreement is necessary - but unlike the trine, these two agree to disagree not for the sake of peace, but because they already understand the other to an extent - their reasoning makes sense, and can be agreed in some contexts, but not this one, and that’s okay… but why? please explain with the details.

finally, the conjunction. this occurs at ~0 degrees, or 360 degrees using the mathematics. this is the relationship within one’s mind, between two factions within a unit, of a fast current and a slow current within the same river. this is war and peace… of oneself, always resolved through teamwork. enemies to lovers? no, this is two who chose to work together, without reluctance, for a specific purpose, and ended up as lifelong friends or partners. two individuals - but with the same purpose and methodology.

I am using Astro Haus Freewrite this year. Very cool. No distractions. Feels awful to "just write" . I get nervous when I'm alone in my thoughts and I can't even stop to self-soothe with social media for even a second. It feels like falling without a net underneath me.

Writing makes me feel nervous these days because I feel like I have more to prove to myself. I'm expecting more from myself. And I feel unprepared to tackle the task ahead of me.

I feel like my writing isn't good enough. And I feel like I don't know how to write a story even though I've read millions of them. Well maybe not millions but quite a number of stories have made their way into my cranium, brain-matter, ego-processing machine.

   He is the embodiment of despair.

   His lips are tinted blue from the downpour of icy rain.

   It soaks him from head to toe as he stands on the edge of your porch, desperate and shivering. Trees sway behind him, their leaves threatening to fly away in the storm. You notice his car several houses down. It's close enough to be convenient but far enough to be inconspicuous.

   Inconspicuous and discreet - just like your relationship.

   He knows the rules and yet here is his.

   With half a mind to leave him there, you continue to watch him from your window, hidden behind the safety of your blinds. He shouldn't have come. Not now, not when your boyfriend is upstairs sleeping in your shared bed. It isn't until he checks his phone and realises you left him on read that he turns to leave.

   You know the risks and yet you open the door.

   The soft creak draws his attention back to you. When your face comes into view, he takes a tentative step forward. There's a screen separating you but it's only a matter of time before you're in his arms. He takes another step forward and the wind picks up, ruffling his drenched hair. Goosebumps raise along your skin and you can only imagine how cold he must be.

   By the time he reaches the screen door, you're pushing it open. Despite the weather and the droplets that trickle from the line of his hair to his chin before dripping to the ground, you can tell he's been crying. His eyes are puffy and his chest is trembling.

   He is broken.

   "Minhyuk, what are you doing here?"

   "I need you," he mumbles, fingers brushing against the back of your hand before wrapping around your wrist, coercing you into the rain with him.

   "You shouldn't be here."

   "I know. I know, but she left me. My baby left me."

   Out of instinct or perhaps empathy, you embrace him. Shivers jolt down your spine from the ferocity of the wind's chill but you're not cold, not when his body is pressed so close to yours. After an impregnable pause, his arms enclose around you.

   Time slows in the safety net that is Minhyuk and you let loose an exhale you hadn't realised you were holding, your mind clearing of all things except him.

   He speaks up again, the words as soft as his lips that tickle the side of your neck, "She's gone. The love of my life is gone."

   It comes as no surprise and you sure as hell don't blame her. If you were in her shoes, you would've done the same. But you're not in her shoes, you're in his. You're cheating, too. You're no better than him and you can't bring yourself to judge or scold him, not when he's like this.

   Not when it could have been you.

   "I'm sorry," you whisper. Despite the howling of the storm, you know he hears. His body slumps just a little more and he rests his heavy head on your shoulder, light sobs clenching at your heart. Holding back tears borne not of his situation but the possibility of your own, you continue to console him with empty words of sympathy. "You can get her back, Minhyuk. It'll be okay."

   "She's never coming back."

   It's a truth you cannot deny and yet you've become well-versed in the world of deception, become so comfortable with deceit that you don't even think twice about the lies you tell.

   "Don't say that. She just needs to know you'll change. She needs you to be there for her and only her. You just need to prove it to her."

   Releasing yourself from his hold, you cup his cold cheeks in your trembling hands. There's nothing in his eyes when he stares at you and you wonder if it's a mirror of your own gaze. You can't remember the last time your eyes held any conviction or meaning. Even the disgust you once harboured toward yourself and your infidelity is gone.

   There are no emotions left to feel - no dread, no fear, no sadness - all you have is acceptance.

   He is the embodiment of your future.

   His lips are tinted blue so you warm them with your own.

6. how you get relaxed when you’re struggling to sleep

Remove all sources of stimulation, lay down, and figure out what I’m writing next! So sleep mask, blanket over head, lights off, cat removed from the room, curled against wall. The process of running through what I’ve written, what needs to be written next, and what scenes / tones have to be hit in the next segment are basically guaranteed to make me completely relax / get into my head enough that I’ll just fall asleep.

10. something you’ve created in the last year that you’re proud of (a playlist, a piece of art, some writing, a craft hobby, a social media account, etc)

The Dreaming Prophet, although that’s primarily Astro’s hard work, lol. 25 episodes, ranging from 25 to 40 minutes, on the Blackout Club and the lore of it, which has gotten a lot of positive attention, people discussing it, and has helped out the community a lot. I’m very chuffed over it!

Alternatively: my BRIGHT AS THE MORNING SUN series over on AO3! TBC fanfiction that’s at 93k words now, and is still gradually growing. It’s been a lovely reminder that, hey, yeah, I do write very well, and I do have the ability to create a nice, intricate story that’s well-woven, I just usually do not have the motivation or fucks to give over it, lmfao. Also, it lets me do two of my favorite things - drag class and race and sexism into random fandoms that never discuss them, and write psychological horror, so AYYY.

Every variant of what I presume is some kind of speech from Hannibal, except mocked, has made me fucking howl irl from delight. The latest one I’ve seen, which I forced everyone around me to read and/or listen to me dramatically monologue at them:

Energy Update: Sun in Gemini square Mars in Pisces, May-June 2020

Hey folks - I wanted to write a quick energy update because we are entering a loooooooong Sun square Mars phase that is going to last from now through the first half of June.

Let’s first talk about Sun square Mars - this is a very restless transit.  How everything “is” (the general energy of our planet) is at odds with the energy off “getting things done” (signified by Mars).   When this aspect is present, you can expect to see a lot of conflicts over action - particularly what is “right” action. You’re also likely to see a higher incidence of crime and violence anytime that Mars is “poorly” aspected in the skies.

Now let’s talk about Gemini and Pisces.  They are two of the four mutable signs - Gemini is mutable air (thoughts all over the place) and Pisces is mutable water (emotions all over the place).   It is notable that these are the two dual signs in the horoscope - they are also (or because because of the duality?  a question for another day...) the two signs most prone to...let’s just say “misinformation”.

Let’s examine this for a second.  We’ll start with Gemini - the energy of Gemini is inquisitive and constantly curious - it is always seeking out new and interesting ways to look at things.  But because of its mutable nature (and its duality), it is often of “two minds” about something - ie, unable to make a decision to stick to an idea to follow through to fruition.   Gemini can be so intent of seeing all sides of a situation that it can forget that sometimes there is an actual definable “truth”.   Some lower Geminis do this intentionally and become grifters and professional liars - others are just so obsessed with the idea that they forget the concrete.

Pisces is a different type of misinformation.  Pisceans, being ruled by the planet of Neptune, has a strong inclination towards fantasy - daydreaming, playing, and other forms of make believe.  This is all well and good, but without grounding, the Pisces energy can get so lost in this fantasy-land that they forget that there is a concrete reality.

Here is how I see this mutable square play out:  

Pisces sidles up to Gemini.  They’ve already imagined that Gemini is their Perfect Whatever.  Pisces does not want this fantasy to end. 

Pisces:  Come on baby, Lie to me...

Gemini: (never more excited by a single prospect in their entire lives) OKAY!!!

It...doesn’t end well.  Gemini can’t stick to a script.  I said that some Gemini lean towards grifting but I didn’t say that Gemini were good liars...they are too inconsistent for that.  Sooner or later they’re on to another way of looking at things and they’ve forgotten already what they said before.  

Pisces doesn’t want the script to change.

You might see now where I’m going with this...

This is a disaster on an interpersonal level, now replace people with the Sun and Mars.  Mars wants to DO SOMETHING - its all yang energy - and its not well placed in the sign of Pisces to start with.  Mars in Pisces whines at the Sun: lie to me...

The Sun says okay.  The Sun lies.  And then, being in Gemini, completely forgets the lie and moves on to a brand new “lie” (remember, they might call it truth) two days later.

Mars becomes unhappy - violence ensues.

Like all aspects, Squares start to form and build to a completion (when the two planets are “exact” of each other) and then it slowly wanes away.  We are in the waxing phase of this Sun-Mars square (the Sun Mars square is exact on June 6) and yet one does not have to look closely at the news this week to see that it is already starting to play out in the United States.  COVID-19 was the powder keg and institutional racism was the spark...

So what does that mean for our personal lives?  Over the next couple of weeks, you might want to keep an eye out for misinformation - both the lies we tell ourselves (Pisces) and the ways in which we’ve perhaps gotten so mired in our thoughts that we haven’t seen clearly (Gemini).   This is against a backdrop of Venus retrograded in Gemini so we might get very emotional about our thoughts...

Lies may come to light.  But lies are just as likely to wrap us up in knots if we are not consciously seeing them clearly and rationally.   Beware of violent impulse or need to act from a place of emotion.   Watch out for being so “in your emotions” that it obscures your view - is it the forest that you are seeing or is it a tree?    Give yourself extra time to decompress from situations which light a fire under you - look for the right action rather than the quick action. And mostly importantly, be aware of the information you are consuming.  Check your sources.  Don’t believe everything that you read.  There are always a lot of Grifters out there (have I mentioned that the giant Orangutan in Chief is a Gemini Sun?) - make sure you know who and what you are sharing/supporting.

Sidenote: There’s a lot of “right action” going on right now - I don’t mean to imply by any means that isn’t happening.  But a good application of this if you are going to involve yourself in the protests is to make sure that the protest that you are going to intend is actually being supported by the right organizations and is not a catch-net for police or others Right-Wing entities out there to try and arrest people.

Be safe out there, folks.  The astro weather is getting rough.

How often do you write?

[Not as often as I’d like tbh. It can range from every couple of days to once a year LOL, but I don’t mind little reminders about a fic I may have forgotten about as long as you remain respectful.]

Are you taking requests? What are your rules for requests?

[I love requests and will try my best to fulfill requests within reason, but please keep in mind that I am a slow af writer sometimes and just because I haven’t cranked out a fic yet doesn’t mean I didn’t receive your ask and that it’s not on my list to do. I don’t have any rules really; just try to give me as much detail as possible so I can make a fic I enjoy writing and you enjoy reading! Try to at least mention the member you want the fic with, and anything specific you want to be included (taking care of you, having an argument, handcuffs etc). If you have some dialogue you want added, make sure to mention it and I’ll work it into the fic like a prompt.

**If you want something like pegging or a mommy kink in your fic, please make sure to mention it in the request, otherwise I'll probably exclude it.

What inspired you to want to be an astronautical engineer?

Well, that is sort of a complicated question. What I really want to do is write, however that is a very uncertain field. Because of that, I wanted sort of a safety net to fall back on if I had no success. I started out wanting to do astronomy. Then as I was researching schools for astronomy I kept seeing aerospace engineering (which has 2 divisions [aero and astro]). I realized I really love problem solving and building/creating things. I also have a desperate love for the cosmos. I also realized that I am somewhat hyperactive and don't do well with sitting still for too long, which is something that you do a lot in astronomy. So, here I am.

On a slight side note, I really want to thank you for asking me this. I am having a really tough time with the first couple weeks of classes and felt super discouraged. This really helped put a lot into perspective. I needed this. So, thank you.
