Not-so-surprinsingly Hibaru got raised differently from his siblings, but,, how much different is 'someone born in the Yotsurugi family' from someone who got adopted in it? Who was an outsider, a stranger, until a certain point?

If Kongo raised Hibaru's siblings strictly, but Hibaru 'must work a thousand times harder', just how harsh was Hibaru's childhood, and how much did he not take it into account because it's his normality?

We always see the Yotsurugi siblings wear formal attires – Kongo's funerals shows that more than the other scenes since, well, it's a funeral

Except Hibaru – for reasons we know – they're all well-dressed, Shikaba aside that is. Even Kuran and Taira, whom we see later mostly dress comfortably, have their tie up and their suit properly on.

Shikaba? Nope. He doesn't have a tie, his jacket is not on, he's not sitting right, he's probably wearing his sandals for all we know. They all made an effort but him.

(+he's the only one sitting during these introductions. And the only one not having his back straight. He's just enjoying the breeze)

But the eldest they are, the more they dress properly at all time. The youngest seem less enclined to (that being said, Kou and Terasu do keep wearing buttoned-up shirts, Kou even keeps his tie on, even as a kid)(– and Kuran wears a proper suit both when meeting with his siblings and when attending Kongo's funerals!!)(– that being said, he's still not present on the 'diamond bond' panel)

But as I pointed out some time ago, Hibaru and Terasu make themselves presentable before going to see Kongo. Despite him being in critical condition and about to say his last words - they take the time to properly button up their shirt and jacket.

There is a way to behave around Kongo. You have to be proper. Perhaps, Hibaru and Terasu didn't want to appear 'wrong' when visiting their father on his deathbed, but then again, if they're so worried and want to talk to him as quick as possible (when they're already late) why take the time to be proper before opening the door?

All the other siblings we see in the hospital are in the same position – that being said, for this theory of Shikaba not caring, or being allowed not to care, about his clothes and behavior, we would need to see how he was near Kongo when he was alive.

So far, the only other scene we see them with Kongo is during Terasu's welcome to the family. Once again, they're wearing suits, the atmosphere is cold if not impersonal. Terasu wearing a hoodie and sweatpants plus snickers isolates him even more (as if the white chairs among the black ones didn't). Interesting how he was allowed to wear that at his biological father's funeral but wore a formal suit to Kongo's (albeit that's probably because he was so young. But then again. Was it only that.)

Knowing Kou is here and is already wearing his clothes with '11' on it (one thick line=10, one thin line=1; both=11), Taira and Shikaba must have been already adopted despite us not seeing them (and by such, we can't tell if Taira is wearing formal clothes or not and if Shikaba still don't care)

As for the family picture; only Hibaru and Shikaba stand out clothes-wise. Hibaru because his top is open, and Shikaba because he has an additional jacket. (There's also Reri bc she isn't wearing the gi properly but I'm not sure what that's about yet)

The whole point of this post was to point out that Shikaba (beside Hibaru – perhaps(see hospital scene)) is the only one allowed to wear casual clothes and act less stiffly than his siblings around Kongo (or at his funerals). Or not caring to follow the rest acting so formal.

Same when it's just them — they're all nicely dressed and then there's Shikaba not caring much (looking at the 'diamond bond' panel, Taira is probably wearing his shirt not buttoned all the way up here too, and his jacket must be open as well)

I think the best (worst?) thing is that we can't even be sure there's someone behind the speech bubble.

We don't know since how long they've been gone. We don't know if they're alive. They weren't there at Kongo's funerals.

But they weren't there either for the family picture. Which most likely happened very shortly after Hibaru came from his 'trip' to Hokkaido.

When did they leave, and why.

looks like shio does take after kongo in some capacity. also the badge/emblem on his blazer makes the whole outfit look like a uniform to me, did he adopt a child in highschool?? did kongo know he did that??? where the hell was he keeping gido????

Yeah it definitely seems like he was in school when this happened! Which makes this whole thing so much better, this kid just adopting another kid so casually. He didn't even check with Kongo first, just brought this kid home.

Ngl I really hope the scene with Kongo played out the same way it did with Chifuyu and his mum.

Negai No Astro questions that will (hopefully) get answered as the story progresses:

- where do each of the adoptive siblings come from?

- why stop at 13 kids when clearly you don't care about having one more? (The answer to this one could be Wakui wanting to make sure they all had a distinct design and personality each, that's the one I'm getting anyway)

- was Hibaru born before or after Shio got adopted?

- is Hibaru's mom still around and if not (likely), did she die before Kongo started to massively adopt kids left and right?

- how do they all live being adopted? Which are the ones seeing themselves as worthy of their place in the family and those who don't – which ones feel as if they weren't part of the family, if there's any?

- who are the two missing siblings from chapter one and why weren't they there?

- what are the dynamics like? Which siblings are closer to which? Are they even that close? Did they all succeed to form 'diamond bonds' or do some of them have tensed relationships? Are there siblings which were close at some point until an event made them drift apart?

- How do they all feel about their biological family? Do they remember them?

- Which ones already knew each other before getting adopted? How did they meet, why did it happen?

- How did Kongo started to think about adopting (especially in Japan where it happens very rarely, even less in the past)?

- Was Kongo really a good father?

- Where is Ginji and will he come back in the story? What important information does he know of? Will he help?

- How many characters are we going to get attached to only to cry our eyes out when they die?

- Will attempted and successful fratricides happen?

- ...

YEAH NO SHIT. CHAPTER 1 KONGO SAYS HIS KIDS - BESIDE HIBARU AND TERASU - ARE 'too grown-up and consumed by the gang's interest' BUT WHO EXACTLY MADE THEM COMPETE BY TYING THEM UP SO TIGHTLY TO THE NUMBER BY WHICH THEY GOT ADOPTED

WHO EXACTLY MAKE HIS 9 Y/O KID COME BACK FROM HOKKAIDO ALL THE WAY TO TOKYO (and Hibaru may have been 8 and spent his birthday somewhere else)

NO WONDER KID N.4 AND N.7 DIDNT SHOW UP TO YOUR FUNERALS. THEY EITHER DIED OR HATE YOUR GUTS.
