However, I'm inclined to not believe in astral STDs.

I think they're a bit like curses. The more you believe they're affecting you, the more you're going to be affected.

I've had to describe the astral kind of like it has fanfiction rules. Maybe it has a structure -- you arrive in a culture and location that already exists (the "canon") -- but you have control over your own body and actions.

Maybe you want to be a shapeshifter. Maybe you want to turn into a squid and give birth to a human child through your eyeball.

If the latter can happen -- and it can, even though I'm exaggerating for comedic effect -- then why can't astral STDs exist? Or, on the other hand, why would they exist at all?

If you have full control over your body, why would you think you're susceptible to even the potential of astral diseases? Do we need to worry about astral smallpox? Astral black plague? Where's the line between STDs and regular diseases, and why would only the STDs affect us and not the regular diseases?

I don't really believe astral STDs are a thing you need to be worried about. You should probably worry more about communicating with your sexual partners and ensuring no one gets hurt feelings or gets mad. A scorned lover is far more likely than an astral STD, in my opinion.
