A short drabble of Erin Cromwell 💫 (TW for mentions of death)

“Why?” Erin whispered, pressing her fingertips against the mirror’s cool surface. If she tried hard enough, perhaps she could feel the Astrolabe’s warmth through her reflection.

“Why pick me?” She asked softly, gaze finally meeting her own. Her wide, hickory eyes glinted in the darkness. The moonlight outlined her with a silvery halo, one that Erin didn’t think she deserved.

Though it was stupid to think an object would answer her, Erin still silently hoped for a response. Anything. Some type of sign from the Astrolabe that would explain why she was chosen.

“This is dumb,” Erin’s giggles were strained, and tears began to fall from her eyes, “I’m talking to an object in my chest like a crazy person.“

Tears began to fall violently, and Erin gasped, squeezing her arms and sinking to her knees. Choked sobs racked through her while she squeezed her eyes shut, willing it all to go away.

There wasn’t any noble or honorable reason to pick her of all people. She was Erin Cromwell, a nineteen-year-old who still slept with plushies, collected Star Wars merch, and forgot the due dates of her assignments. Erin Cromwell, who accidentally showed up to work late, and was scared of calling her mom back. Erin Cromwell, who still could not muster up the courage to visit her dad’s grave. Even though she missed him.

And now, Erin Cromwell with the weight of Astraea’s fate on her back.

“Why?” Erin choked, trying to ask the relic buried deep in her heart, “why would you let me wield you?”

11. Who or what was your inspiration when creating this character? How does it show? This can be visual, backstory, personality, anything.

st. valentine: hir inspiration was entirely melanie martinez, specifically her character cry baby from the k-12 album, from hir voice claim and face claim to hir actual aesthetic; just someone brutally soft who is capable of many great things 💕

astraea: astraea's inspiration was originally starscream meets other mother from coraline - someone who is very evil and claims to have high and mighty plans for themselves, but is actually at her best when she's second in command. the spiders and general creepy crawliness sort of came and went - i wound up making her from the underdark, from a typical drow family, and then had her be an evil secretary 💫

maple: i just really wanted to play a kitchen witch with fairy elements, and then when the fairy lineage came out i was thrilled. i think like...originally a little mushroom fairy kind of was the thought? and she was gonna be spores, but then i wound up having her be wildfire instead for story reasons 🍂

Tophzula HVs! Specifically the more domestic ones!

-Toph is the little spoon and loves to be in Azula's arms

-Azula cooks breakfast every morning for Toph and their kids

-Azula is more into being clean than Toph, who sometimes likes to get messy (i.e. fur gate haha)

-they're very active…to say the least, and try to find a good time to do it (not exactly domestic but it’s a part of their everyday routine haha)

-spring cleaning is taken very seriously in their household

-they take turns kissing each other awake

-their favorite place to go is London (I’m totally being biased rn b/c I’m in London rn 😂)

-Azula loves to take Toph and the kids out for ice cream

3. Who is the most romantic?

Azula, hands down. She LOVES to make romantic dinners and whisk Toph away during holidays (and vice versa but not the point). And adding to the fact that she’s never really had a healthy and loving relationship, she wants to do it right.

Not to say that Toph isn’t romantic either. She’d made breakfast in bed for Azula and always takes care of her when she’s sick (also vice versa but not the point again). But if it was a competition, Azula would definitely win.
