My (Pretty Quick) Review on Haven - Marianas Trench (2024)
PSA: So my plan is to write a total of probably 3 reviews of Haven. this one being the short one with just rating each song from 1-10 with small commentary. the second being an extension of this one with better commentary for each song, and the third being a review as an album in general instead of focusing on each song. I just have way too many thoughts and I don't want to overwhelm anyone with everything in one post. It also helps me keep my thoughts organized. I just want to join in the fun (despite me being a few weeks late to the party)
okie thanks! :D
Normal Life: ngl it took me a few listens to really like it. But when it hit, it HIT. Not the best opener in their discography tho. 8/10
Lightning and Thunder: i like it as a single, but kind of flops compared to the other songs in the album. Still a bop tho 6/10
I’m Not Getting Better: it took me a two relistens to like it. Again, good as a single but something about it just gives “FOR RADIO”. Can tell they drew some inspo from the 80s and seems a little Astoria-esque (still don’t know if I like it tho). 5/10
Down to You: first single that I automatically fell in love with. However, it sounds way too similar to Kid Laroi’s Stay in some parts and I don’t like that 💀 7/10
Now or Never: 😬 guys, I’ve seen your reviews and I was surprised to see this was a fan favorite. It was not mine (pls don’t kill me 💀). Lyrics,, a little cheesy. Production,, a little boring to me tbh. However not a bad song. Vocals are killer - as always - 4/10
Into the Storm: lyrics are nice (still a little cheesy tho). Production and composition, awesome ! Josh really worked his ass fr. Love the crescendos here. Sounds like it will be killer live. 7/10
Ancient History: another fan favorite for some reason that I was surprised with. Melodically: fan of the verses, not a fan of the chorus (more on that later). Saxophone goes HARD tho 🎷🎷 serviceable bop 5/10
Stand and Fight: pretty good song in the context of the album. Not so good standalone (a little debatable). Josh’s vocals made me tear up hear tho. Gets pretty inspiring 🥹 7/10
Turn and Run: same review as stand and fight except it’s inspiring in a different way. To me: (masterpiece theater II —> Masterpiece Theater 2009) = (turn and run —> Haven 2024) idk if that makes sense but it’s an analogy. Sounds like it’ll be killer in live 6/10
Worlds Collide: BANGER BANGER BANGER. I liked it when I first heard it but it took me til the third to be like “ 🥹I get it.” This song was made for ME. The masterpiece theater references made me tear up. The drama, the composition. Spectacular. However, in the context of the album, it gets held back. More on this song later. 9.75/10
Nights Like These: giving “story of tonight”. Sweet message. Sweet song. (Congrats to josh btw!)6/10
Remember Me By: SLAPS!! Straight up. Loved it as soon as I heard it. Catchy and love the 80s vibe here a lot more. Also reminds me of Try Me from his solo project. Certified BOP 9/10
Haven: KILLER OUTRO! Once more, marianas Trench knocks it out of the park with their outros. I think this is their most ambitious and musically complex song yet and it tears me up how far they’ve come 🥲🥲. 10/10⭐️
Final Notes: Solid album, not my favorite album. I have a bajillion more thoughts on this album because I’m batshit crazy about Marianas Trench. I’m so HAPPY we got new music and hopefully I get to see them soon!!! (my date got postponed 🥲)
Overall Rating: 8/10 💕
Stay tuned for my in depth analysis 👍
#hey guys#Im back#read a lot of reviews on this album and I agree with so muchness’s#ahh#so ready to talk about it with you guys#i love you guys ❤️❤️#also thank you Marianas Trench for another album ⭐️#hopefully they get better soon#josh ramsay#matt webb#mike ayley#ian cassleman#marianas trench#haven#this is my current review but my opinions might change in the future#but rn this is how I feel

José María Sert (1874-1945)
'Vision de Naples'
An eleven-leaf screen, circa 1923
Giltwood and black glaze; decorated with scenes against the Bay of Naples, 390 x 800 cm.
Sotheby’s
Catalogue Note:
José Maria Sert (1874-1945), the "Tiepolo of the Ritz", is part of the closed circle of the great society artists of the 20th century. He married the famous Misia Godebska whom Forain introduced to him, better known as Misia Sert, a central figure in artistic and literary Paris at the end of the 19th century and between the wars. Muse successively of Mallarmé, Vuillard, Renoir, Proust, Diaghilev and Cocteau, Misia was also the confidante of Gabrielle Chanel for whom Sert created this screen.
Undermined by the Parisian avant-garde, he is part of a primarily decorative painting tradition influenced by Goya, Manet and of course Tiepolo. In his studio in the rue Barbet de Jouy, Sert created a grandiose decor in the image of his painting, mixing baroque furniture, gilded bronzes, crystals and Coromandel screens. Gabrielle Chanel retained this lesson in decoration and applied it in all her Parisian residences thereafter, as her apartment on rue Cambon still testifies. Sert held a salon there where he received the entire Café Society of the time, who commissioned him for multiple projects. Specializing in very large wall decorations and screens, he went from polychrome painting to monochrome painting on a gold background, which better suited his exuberant style. He received important commissions at the turn of the century throughout Europe and more particularly in England (between 1914 and 1915 for Lady Ripon at Combe Court and Sir Philip Sassoon at Lympe and between 1918 and 1919 for Sir Saxton Noble at Wretham Hall). He received his first commission in the United States in 1924 for Mr. Joshua Cosden's music room in Palm Beach. An exhibition in New York at the Wildenstein Galleries completed his launch across the Atlantic. He then undertook grandiose projects such as an entire room at the Waldorf Astoria in New York in 1930, and the entrance main building of Rockefeller Center, built in 1933.
"Art loses the last representative of great painting", wrote Paul Claudel in Le Figaro on 14 December 1945, on the death of his friend José María Sert. The monumentality of his work and the power of his personality made Sert an artist unanimously admired in his time.

Summary:
He’d never known anything so vanilla. And he loved it. For The Writing Heirs of Slytherin Spicetober challenge on Discord. Fifth prompt: Vanilla
Notes:
Hope you enjoy. :3
.
She almost became his daughter-in-law. This fact alone kept him at arm’s length for a long time. He had only been with Narcissa and he’d never thought about anyone else like that before.
But Astoria Greengrass caught his eye, nonetheless.
Lucius would be lying if he said he wasn’t glad his son had never had any intention of marrying the witch. The betrothal contract was torn up and he was free to date whomever he wanted.
And the elder Malfoy was free to court her instead. In theory.
But instead of sending her roses and dating her with airs and propriety, he somehow found himself balls deep inside her instead. His cock aching and pulsing with every slow thrust. Every deep, raspy breath. The vanilla kind of sweet fucking. It was highly underrated and misunderstood.
Lucius hovered over the young beauty, watching the way her eyes widened and she gasped. She rocked her hips instinctively up at his. Her hands explored every inch of his body she could reach. And he did the same, cataloguing all her sounds and reactions for future use. Learning what she liked. Moulding his body to hers. Gently taking her innocence.
He would call what they did love making, except there was no making involved. It was their first time together and she was inexperienced. So Lucius took her slowly. By candlelight. With soft music in the background.
Perhaps next time she’d like a full, aggressive fucking.
Lucius held her jaw tightly between his fingers as he invaded her mouth with his.
But right now, he was tasting her spice slowly. To better savour this moment.
It was searing hot as she came around his cock, moments before he grunted his finish into her. He’d never known anything so vanilla. And he loved it.

Hey girl!! I'm new here to ur blog and I'm curious Abt ur ships and headcanons for Harry Potter characters? I love ur Harry and Weasley takes but I want to know all ur ships lmao I was looking to see if u had a pinned post but I don't so I figured I'd ask 💕
Hi! Welcome to my blog and thank you for asking about my ships, I have a lot of them and I'm going to try and link some of my stories from Ao3. I put everything under the read more as it turned out to be a lot longer than anticipated!
Bill/Fleur - I ship them in a sort of toxic downfall(?), they're just the kind of couple that I see rushing in too fast and then not dealing with any of their trauma.
Victoire/SJ - they fell in love while Victoire was visiting her grandparents in Paris, he's a few years older and super sweet and doting on Victoire. They have a great relationship.
Dominique/Lorcan - more of a friends to lovers story, but involve an unplanned teen pregnancy, a family tragedy, and also lots of cousin drama, they somehow make it work.
Louis/Anamika - I really adore them, both of them are so quiet and shy despite being on the younger side of their ridiculously big families. They find a peace and love in one another that I find so refreshing and honest.
Percy/Audrey - one of my top Weasley couples! I just simply adore the pair of them, Percy is so sweet to Audrey, her shoulder to lean on while the world pushes her down. And Audrey is the complete opposite of her quiet and studious man, but that's what makes him love her more.
Molly/Artie - they're not exactly a match made in heaven, but they are a second chance romance. They loved one another at 15/16 and they come back to each other again at 20/21. Sometimes mistakes happen in life and sometimes you wake up after a night of partying married to your ex-boyfriend.
Lucy/Devon - She's a nervous wreck at her best and he loves her despite her self-doubt. They care so deeply for one another and she gets more and more confident with him at her side.
George/Angelina - They're resilient, the couple that can manage anything as long as they're together. A sweet pair of soulmates that saw each other at eleven and never looked back.
Freddie/LeeAnne - Another pair of soulmates that met each other young and who love one another so deeply and completely despite the hardships it causes.
Roxanne/Sean/Sasha - Roxanne has been through everything, she has been through so much pain and Sean helped her get through it. Sasha helped her see the light after so much pain and their love is so true and sweet after everything that has happened.
Ron/Hermione - what can I not say about this couple? I adore Romione and think that they are such an amazing couple that have gone through so much together.
Rose/Scorpius - my first OTP in the next generation, I just love the thought of their family dinners. They're definitely a couple that go through lots of ups and downs, but that never lessens their love for one another.
Hugo/Lyla - I love them so much, Hugo is so wild and Lyla is so anxious, but when they come together they manage to become something so entirely beautiful and happy together.
Harry/Ginny - I do love a couple that find each other over and over and over again. They're a couple that love one another in every moment and I love writing them.
James/Marci - coming soon, Nano2023 project
Al/Maggie - they were toxic young couple at 17 and grow into a beautiful and ridiculously loving couple at 21. They go on to become a staple at Hogwarts as DADA professor and Hospital Wing Matron.
Lily/Ryan - She's a bit of a wild child and he's able to wrangle her in, they have a mutual love of music and dancing, and they find each other in their darkest moments.
Draco/Astoria - we love couples that grow and learn from one another and they do that over and over and over again!
Padma/Theodore - a rarepair but a good pair, they come together despite their differences and they are such good parents to any child that comes through their home
Susan/Dudley - my first real rarepair, I love them so much and the story I’ve created for them means so much to me. They found each other over and over again and they found love even during a rainstorm.

Charles J. Gans at AP News:
NEW YORK (AP) — Tony Bennett, the eminent and timeless stylist whose devotion to classic American songs and knack for creating new standards such as “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” graced a decadeslong career that brought him admirers from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga, died Friday. He was 96, just two weeks short of his birthday. Publicist Sylvia Weiner confirmed Bennett’s death to The Associated Press, saying he died in his hometown of New York. There was no specific cause, but Bennett had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016. The last of the great saloon singers of the mid-20th century, Bennett often said his lifelong ambition was to create “a hit catalog rather than hit records.” He released more than 70 albums, bringing him 19 competitive Grammys — all but two after he reached his 60s — and enjoyed deep and lasting affection from fans and fellow artists. [...]
He not only survived the rise of rock music but endured so long and so well that he gained new fans and collaborators, some young enough to be his grandchildren. In 2014, at age 88, Bennett broke his own record as the oldest living performer with a No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart for “Cheek to Cheek,” his duets project with Lady Gaga. Three years earlier, he topped the charts with “Duets II,” featuring such contemporary stars as Gaga, Carrie Underwood and Amy Winehouse, in her last studio recording. His rapport with Winehouse was captured in the Oscar-nominated documentary “Amy,” which showed Bennett patiently encouraging the insecure young singer through a performance of “Body and Soul.” His final album, the 2021 release “Love for Sale,” featured duets with Lady Gaga on the title track, “Night and Day” and other Porter songs. For Bennett, one of the few performers to move easily between pop and jazz, such collaborations were part of his crusade to expose new audiences to what he called the Great American Songbook. [...]
By his early 40s, he was seemingly out of fashion. But after turning 60, an age when even the most popular artists often settle for just pleasing their older fans, Bennett and his son and manager, Danny, found creative ways to market the singer to the MTV Generation. He made guest appearances on “Late Night with David Letterman” and became a celebrity guest artist on “The Simpsons.” He wore a black T-shirt and sunglasses as a presenter with the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the 1993 MTV Music Video Awards, and his own video of “Steppin’ Out With My Baby” from his Grammy-winning Fred Astaire tribute album ended up on MTV’s hip “Buzz Bin.” That led to an offer in 1994 to do an episode of “MTV Unplugged” with special guests Elvis Costello and k.d. lang. The evening’s performance resulted in the album, “Tony Bennett: MTV Unplugged,” which won two Grammys, including album of the year.
[...] Long associated with San Francisco, Bennett would note that his true home was Astoria, the working-class community in the New York City borough of Queens, where he grew up during the Great Depression. The singer chose his old neighborhood as the site for the “Fame”-style public high school, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, that he and his third wife, Susan Crow Benedetto, a former teacher, helped found in 2001. The school is not far from the birthplace of the man who was once Anthony Dominick Benedetto. His father was an Italian immigrant who inspired his love of singing, but he died when Anthony was 10. Bennett credited his mother, Anna, with teaching him a valuable lesson as he watched her working at home, supporting her three children as a seamstress doing piecework after his father died.
Musician Tony Bennett died at 96. Bennett collaborated with Lady Gaga very late in his career to make him relevant to younger audiences. #RIPTonyBennett

The more the merrier
A series of ficlets for @polyshipweek 2023!
Day Two: Second Chances-Regal Butterfly <-AO3 link
Flynn wiped the tears from her face as she surveyed the apartment one last time. It had been her home for the past year, and was full of memories. Mostly happy ones; her and Reggie giggling as they painted the walls and got more on themselves at first. Making meals together and eating them as Project Runway played in the background, Reggie whispering assurances in her ear that one day that would be her. The weird spindly cactus that was only staying alive through sheer force of will and not because Flynn or Reggie had any success in keeping plants alive.
But then, they started fighting. Long hours at work, frustration on Flynn’s part on her lack of momentum getting anywhere with her designs. Reggie’s devotion to his band, who were in the same state of stasis. They started out small, petty nitpicks and took their frustrations out on each other. Then it seemed as though they couldn’t go without arguing, until today.
Today when Reggie had blown up, and told her that if she was so unhappy, the door was right there, and then stormed out of it himself. So she took that to mean this was over.
She had packed what she could, loading her car quickly, not wanting to see Reggie when or if he got back. She didn’t think she’d be strong enough to go then, and Flynn Taylor was not a woman who begged someone to take her back. She kept her grief at bay until she had her last bag, and stood in the doorway. Whispering a silent goodbye, and left.
She didn’t know that Reggie came back a mere hour afterwards, an apology bouquet of tiger lilies-her favourites-in hand, an apology on his lips. Wasn’t there to witness his panic at finding her gone, and his subsequent breakdown when he found her key sitting by the entrance.
He never tried to contact her, figuring it must be over if she left. Merely went about packing up his own things numbly, thankful they didn’t have a lease to break, and went off to cry on Luke’s shoulder about his whole world falling apart. To him, that was it, but maybe it was better this way, that they didn’t hold on and make each other miserable as his parents had.
A few years later, Flynn was thriving. Her designs had finally taken off, she had a little boutique selling them in Manhattan, an upcoming trunk show, a great place in Astoria, and a gorgeous woman waiting home for her.
Flynn was still nursing a broken heart when she landed in New York, hoping the change of scenery would do her some good. Plus here there would be no chance of memories haunting her. She stayed with a distant cousin for a bit before finding Julie’s ad looking for a roommate.
And the rest, as they say, was history.
She and Julie became fast friends, staying up late getting to know one another. Julie tells her all about her late mom, her drive to get into Juilliard so she could keep her mom’s music alive. Now she was an accompanist for a major Broadway company and working on putting together an EP of songs she had written with her mom as a teen. Flynn told her all about Reggie, and how despite it all, she still missed him, still loved him.
A tiny part of that was true, even now.
But Julie had understood, and even after they finally confessed as to the feelings between them, Julie had promised her that she knew a part of Flynn’s heart wasn’t fully hers. “You can love as many people as you want cutie,” Julie said. “I’m not the type to get jealous or possessive.”
That had been well over a year ago, and Flynn couldn’t be happier.
Which is why she had to do a double take when walking down the streets of Brooklynn, she spied a familiar red flannel. He froze as he saw her too, and they stared at each other across the busy street. Flynn had to admit, he looked good. A little more trim and fit, his hair brushing his collar, freckles out in full force. She gave him a smile and a friendly wave, and he dashed over to her.
“Hi,” he said, that lovely pink blush she had treasured so dearly making an appearance.
“Hi yourself,” she replied. “What are you doing in my neck of the woods?”
“The band got signed to a label here, so we came to record our album, play a few gigs. Figured it was a nice change of pace from LA after we weren’t getting any traction there,” he explains. “Plus I got a job at NYU while we’re waiting, mostly helping at the math center and the library, but I like it.”
Flynn grinned at that. Reggie might play the himbo, but he was actually really smart, excelling at math and had taken great joy in helping her with her financial reports when she was doing projects for design school. “That sounds perfect for you.” She paused for a moment and then asked, “You wanna get a coffee and catch up?”
“I’d like that.”
So they did, Flynn telling him all about her line, and he whistled when she showed him her website. It felt so easy to talk to him again, like no time at all had passed. But it had, they were different people now, and it made her sad to think that she might not know the man before her that had been the centre of her world not that long ago.
Yet as they kept talking, Reggie was still his sweet, dorky self, and that warmed Flynn more than she thought it would.
“You seeing anyone?” she finally asked.
“Not anymore,” he shook his head. “I was… in a bad place, after you left. Got a bit of therapy to get back out there. Was with this girl Carrie for a bit, but we could never make it work long term. Been pretty casual since then, and haven’t been in NYC long enough to look. You?”
Flynn flushed, and told him about Julie. How happy they were, and Reggie smiled as Flynn showed him a picture. “Damn Taylor, you did good.” His smile seemed a bit strained for a second, but it never faltered. “I’m glad you’re happy, and that you found someone who treats you right.”
“I hope you find your own Julie,” Flynn replied, squeezing his hand.
“Maybe,” he hummed. “But you see… the real reason I haven’t is that my heart got broken really badly by this girl. My own fault really, we didn’t know how to communicate back then. But-it never really let go of her.”
His eyes met hers and Flynn bit her lip. It had been years and still those green orbs could disarm her. The sincerity in his voice, his expression, and every feeling she had thought she had locked away came flooding back. “I know,” she whispered. “Mine’s the same. But Reggie-”
“You have Julie now, I know,” he said, offering her a sad facsimile of a smile. “And I have no intention of ruining that for you. But we ran into each other like some sort of serendipity, so I had to say something.”
Flynn nodded, and then took a napkin from the table, scrawling her number on it. “Look, maybe we can try to be friends again at least? Call me if you want that, but I’ll understand if you don’t.” With that she gave him a quick peck on the cheek and ran out. Only this time when she turned back to look, she could see the stunned expression on his face as he touched the spot her lips had and watched her go with sad, shimmering eyes.
Flynn raced home, all but collapsing into Julie’s embrace, tearfully telling her everything. “I didn’t think… after all this time…” Flynn blubbered.
“Sssssh, it’s okay mi amor,” Julie soothed. “We both knew this day would come. I just hoped it wouldn’t because Flynn I love you, and I don’t want to give you up.”
“I’m not leaving you for him, I love you Julie, never doubt that,” Flynn assured her. “It’s just… I still love him. After all this time.”
“Then what do you want to do?” Julie asked. There was a long beat of silence as Flynn worried her bottom lip with her teeth, Julie waiting on tenterhooks for the answer.
“I don’t want to choose,” Flynn admitted. “Because no matter what I do someone comes away with a broken heart.”
Julie held her tight, both of them pondering it over. Finally, Julie spoke, though her speech was hesitant and stumbling. “W-what if you didn’t have to choose?”
“What?”
“You could date us both,” Julie said. “At the same time.”
“Isn’t that cheating?”
“No hun, that’s polyamory.”
“I thought that was when there were like… sister wives and that?” Flynn asked.
Julie chuckled at that. “No babe, it’s when you have romantic, consensual relationships with multiple people, with everyone in the know. I’m not saying invite Reggie into our relationship, because he and I might not get along, but if you want to date us both, then you can do that-as long as he’s okay with it too.”
“And if you end up liking him as much as I think you will?” Flynn asked.
Julie shrugged. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. But… I’m not opposed to us having a more open relationship or inviting him in if that’s what we all want.”
“So I guess I hope he calls and we talk about it?” Flynn mused.
Julie grinned. “I don’t think you’ll be waiting long.”
With that, Flynn’s phone started to ring, with an unknown number. Flynn grabbed a hold of Julie’s hand as she answered, a smile splitting her face when the voice on the other end said hello. “Hi Reg, I was hoping you would call.”
A year after that, Flynn walked out of her apartment for the last time. But this time, she was walking right into a bigger one where her two partners were waiting for her, and this time? She didn’t look back.

Gentrification Kills Creativity
London
Good things always come to an end and the London that The Libertines built was knocked down (literally, to a point), but that doesn’t mean a new London for lost creative kids doesn’t just exist (it’s just not in Soho after 11pm).
The future wasn’t bright for London’s nightlife when Crossrail and gentrification came along and swept it away. The Soho of the 2000’s went hand-in-hand with the music scene. It was gritty and a little dangerous but it was wild, hence why there were so many club nights selling cheap booze.
Jay (Beans On Toast) “The gentrification of Central London created East London.”
Soho is also in the heart of London, a capital city that attracts people with money and tourists so as the first decade of the 21st century ended it started to become gentrified. The late-night bars were replaced by chain restaurants and the venues and clubs such as the Astoria, the Mean Fiddler and Metro were demolished. Not only was central London being cleaned up but Crossrail was being built too, destroying a community that bred creativity to build a new underground line and stations in a compact and condensed area of the city.
Crossrail
When it comes to getting around, London’s transport is particularly good but it's also dated. Not only is it old but it wasn’t built for the population that London now has, Crossrail was built to help it but, it has come at a cost. Plans for the new line (which goes east to west) were approved in 2007 and work began 2 years later. It was expected to be finished in 2018 but that came and went, the project was way over budget and it’s hard to know its true value is, even now that the Elizabeth Line is open.
Despite destroying some of London’s most iconic venues in Soho to build a central station, it has improved connections in the East, where the creatives had already migrated too…

When They Trod the Boards: Christopher Walken, Song and Dance Man by Jeremy Megraw, Billy Rose Theatre Division, New York Public Library For the Performing Arts April 2, 2013
How do we love Christopher Walken? On his 70th birthday, let us count the ways. Star of film, TV, and NYPL's own iBook Point, somehow everyone has a favorite film that stars him, be it The Deer Hunter, True Romance, or Pulp Fiction. The consummate villain, he faced off Batman and James Bond with his signature dead stare that transforms at the drop of a hat into a Rockwellesque boyish grin. By the time his fancy footwork stupefied us in Spike Jonze's Fatboy Slim video, few knew Walken was already a 30-year Broadway veteran, sharing the stage with Liza Minnelli and Raul Julia.
Christopher Walken was born in Astoria, Queens. His father ran Walken's Bakery, which in the 1950s served a predominantly German community in Long Island City. Born Ronald Walken (named after the great British actor Ronald Colman), he was still called Ronnie Walken when he and his brother Glenn attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan. His debut role was in J.B. at ANTA in 1959, and he toured soon after in West Side Story. His dream of being a dancer was somewhat realized in a string of musicals, including Best Foot Forward with Liza Minnelli. In 1966 he won the Theatre World Award for his performance in Tennessee Williams' The Rose Tattoo.
After an extended stint of Shakespeare with the Stratford Festival in Canada, he travelled all over the U.S. and starred in his first film Me and My Brother (1968). He returned to the New York stage and won the Drama Desk Award for his work in Lemon Sky in 1970. During this period he started getting more roles in movies, with a small part in the psychedelic Cleopatra (1970) and a more prominent role that got him noticed in the Anderson Tapes (1971).
Walken continued to garner acclaim on the stage, winning an Obie for his performance in Joseph Papp's production of Kid Champion in 1975. In the 1980s, as critics hailed his Hollywood work, such as Dead Zone and Brainstorm, he was still walking the theatrical boards in the Big Apple. He was a familiar face downtown in Central Park's Delacorte Theater and at the Public, performing Chekhov and Shakespeare. In the 1990s, so as not to rest on his laurels after achieving cult-status in Pulp Fiction, he continued to do Shakespeare in the Park and even a one-man show entitled Him.
Walken's stage and screen two-step continues to this day, including the recent stage production A Behanding in Spokane. A victim of his own success, Mr. Walken's evil persona endures (he once referred to himself as The Malevolent WASP). But the interviews we've found in the archives reveal his true nature: a soft-spoken person who is really quite ordinary. At 70, Christopher Walken remains as ever the nice guy with the boyish grin who sometimes breaks into dance.
The Billy Rose Theatre Division has documentation of Christopher Walken's entire career in the form of clippings, photographs, reviews, videos, and oddly enough, a published biography in French. An Inside the Actor's Studio production and an oral history where he talks about his Shakespeare Festival years, are among the archived interviews held in the collections at the Library for the Performing Arts.
If you want to join a fun crowd project, please give us your favorite Christopher Walken movie or TV quotes in the comments section and we will combine them in a unique and fun way. Watch this space! In the meantime...

Joe Nichols Releases First Song From Upcoming 11th Studio Album
Three-time GRAMMY nominated Quartz Hill Records artist Joe Nichols’ releases new song, “Bottle It Up,” today across all streaming and digital retail partners. With his “signature neo-traditional sound” (Billboard) and rich baritone, Nichols latest track is a rollicking slice-of-life ode to capturing the good times and savoring the special moments with family and friends. LISTEN to “Bottle It Up” HERE. WATCH the official lyric video HERE. “‘Bottle It Up’ is about the good things in life and saving them up. And also enjoying them when maybe life is a little less than stellar,” says Nichols. “I think we would all like to take great moments in our life, capture them, put them in a bottle and constantly drink from it. It’s about storing up the good stuff.” Written by Josh Kear, Dan Isbell and Paul Sykes, “Bottle It Up,” marks the first song release from Nichols’ upcoming 11th career studio album as well as his second project for Quartz Hill Records. The song was produced by Mickey Jack Cones (Jason Aldean, Thomas Rhett) and Derek George (Randy Houser). Earlier this week Nichols joined chart-topping rapper, singer, songwriter and producer Post Malone onstage at his “A Night in Nashville” show at Marathon Music Works for a collaborative performance of Nichols’ Platinum No. 1 hit “Brokenheartsville,” which Malone called “one of the best-written songs I’ve heard in my entire life.” Nichols recently released a mashup of Alice in Chains’ “Rooster,” and the Hank Williams, Jr smash “A Country Boy Can Survive” which has become a fan favorite at his live shows as Nichols continues touring across the U.S. and beyond. Summary:
Pansy was done denying what she wanted. Who she wanted. Her tigress. For The Writing Heirs of Slytherin Spicetober challenge on Discord. Third prompt: Smokey
Notes:
Listen to The Motto by Tiësto & Ava Max and you'll know how I felt writing and picturing this. Hope you enjoy. :3
.
The dance floor was shaking. It was on fire. Something was burning. Everything was spinning.
But she’d never felt more in control.
The faces in the crowd disappeared in a sea of smoke. Bodies bobbed en masse as they pressed into her from all sides. And magic was in the air. The smokey, sex heavy air. The music thrummed through her as she moved with it, eyes scanning the club for the familiar head of blonde hair.
Hot, sweaty bodies swam around her vision but she paid them no mind.
Pansy Parkinson was looking for her.
The reason she decided to come here. Astoria Greengrass. The younger sister of Pansy’s friend was demure, kind and a proper pureblood.
Until me. Pansy bared her teeth as she spotted her.
Her eyes met hers. She moved to the beat as she drifted closer. Her gaze fell on her body. Moving. Trailing along sheer skin, taking it all in. Eyes flashing, almost teasing. The aristocratic young woman before her had transformed from a pampered teenager into a queen. A tigress.
And then Pansy was on her. Arms encircling her neck. Hands on her hips. Mouths open and devouring. The smell of smoke clung to them. The scent of sex in the air. She even tasted smokey.
The music thrummed through them. Moved them. Finally. She had what she wanted. As Astoria’s hands slid down and cupped Pansy’s breasts, she knew. This was her moment. Her future.
Legs entwined. Breasts pressed to each other. Hungry hands exploring. Not caring about the crowd of people around them. Everyone here was having sex. Nobody paid them any mind.
They danced. They made love in the darkness. In the seedy smoke.
Where nobody in the Wizarding World would ever find and judge them. Ever again.

Dive into Marr Not Meeger's World: The Story of 'Yellow Car Meet Marr Not Meeger, the wonderful songwriter and singer who made her refreshing debut single “Yellow Car” available on all streaming platforms. Marr Not Meeger, whose name is Rowan Meagher and an Irishman but who spent his childhood in Geneva Switzerland presently lives Paris France. In her latest song ‘Yellow Car’ she addresses the challenges within relationships with brilliant lyrics among catchy tunes. This track was recorded at Studio Montmartre in Paris, where Marr Not Meeger thanks Andreas Lecter for this marvelous job of recording and mastering the song. “The Boy in The Tree”, a seven-song EP which is scheduled for release midway through 2024, ‘Yellow Car’ serves as its lead single. With a mishmash of influences from Nina Simone to Phoebe Bridgers in tow, Marr Not Meeger has wound her way through the music scene. At the end of her musician journey, Marr Not Meeger shares with us some words about how she finds inspiration to write. More than his music, Marr Not Meeger has a passion for swimming; likes to learn other languages apart from English and keep digging in with sports especially soccer. In case she does not choose music, Astoria would like to become a professional in some intellectually stimulating branches of astrophysics or economics. In an industry filled with challenges, Marr Not Meeger gives profile to the issue of gender equality and aims at redefining traditional views. Having the intention of releasing her second single ‘Pizza For Breakfast’ in April, and a debut EP in September this year, Marr Not Meeger can wait for establishing contact with her audience through emotional performances alongside other joint projects. Marr Not Meeger to her fans expresses deep gratitude with a heart-warming hug as she welcomes them on an inspiring adventure full of hit songs and life meaning. Follow Marr Not Meeger on Soundcloud Instagram Spotify Listen to Yellowcar below https://open.spotify.com/album/6vFZ1K4EO7RQ8UeDVjZaab What is your stage name Marr Not Meeger Is there a story behind your stage name? It comes from having to explain the pronunciation of my Irish surname, Meagher, to non-irish people, who always pronounce it wrong. Where do you find inspiration? most things, however most often it's other works of art. Be it music, painting, or literature. I find a lot of inspiration in tv and film, as the combination of text or dialogue and visuals is a large pool to draw from. What was the role of music in the early years of your life? The earliest memories i have that tie to music are, like most little girls and boys, disney songs. My parents also had a huge cd collection, that I would regularly reorganize for fun. When I was seven, my father made me a mixtape that hugely influenced me. It opened with Sheryl Crow singing ‘sweet child o mine’ and also featured some great covers, like Eva Cassidy singing ‘Time after Time’, and the Dubliners singing ‘black velvet band’. It also featured Joan Armatrading, Kíla, Crowded House, Sony Condell, and many others that I can't remember. The best day of my life was when my parents bought me an ipod. Are you from a musical or artistic family? Not at all. My parents were both highly academic, and my father used to tell me that he got kicked out of music class in school for being so untalented. Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry? Two people. The first is Lorraine Dinkel, who was my first ever singing teacher. She taught me to conquer my stage fright and learn musical improvisation. She convinced me to start writing songs. The second is Ralph Kerr, who was the director of the choir I was in in highschool. Being in that choir was really the only time I enjoyed highschool, and it's where I started gaining confidence and where I realized I could pursue this as a career. How did you learn to sing/write/to play? I started taking singing lessons, and writing in my bedroom with my grandmothers old guitar that she left me when she died.
What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform? In 2018 I saw Rex Orange County play in Paris at Le Trabendo. That concert was incredible. I think subconsciously it made me want to move to Paris, and now that concert hall is one of my dream venues. How could you describe your music? I would describe it as Dad Rock for the new generation. Describe your creative process. I find that my best work comes out of improvisation, where i go into some sort of songwriting trance and start blurting out my feelings over some random chords until something cool happens. [caption id="attachment_53905" align="alignnone" width="720"] I find that my best work comes out of improvisation, where i go into some sort of songwriting trance[/caption] What is your main inspiration? life experiences, and works of fiction. What musician do you admire most and why? I love Hozier, for our shared nationality and for his incredible songwriting and guitar playing. Nina Simone’s voice. Phil Lynnot’s bass playing. Finneas’s production skills. Ella Fitzgerald’s vocal presicion. Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career? I'm just starting out, so ask me again in five years. Though one of my goals in music is to try a bit of everything. Who do you see as your main competitor? I think that the music industry is already way more competitive than it should be, so I try not to think of other musicians as my competitors. I would probably therefore have to say myself. I get in my own way a lot. What are your interests outside of music? I love to swim, dance, learn new languages, and watch football. If it wasn't a music career, what would you be doing? When I was younger I wanted to be a spy for interpol, but then I quickly realized that if I was a badass international super spy, I wouldn't be able to keep it to myself. As I was a competitive swimmer for 11 years, i thought about going pro for a while, but it was just too hard on my body. I would probably be doing something intellectually challenging, like astrophysics or economics. What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music? So far, finding time to rehearse with the band, as we all work different jobs and are all quite busy. Also finding an audience. If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be? probably the double standard when it comes to gender, and misogyny. However, I think that I would change that about every industry. https://open.spotify.com/artist/2iRebx6MaKhPA3LWqBwsVq Why did you choose this as the title of this project? The title of Yellowcar was the first thing I came up with in the song. I thought it was a cool image. The title of my upcoming EP ‘The Boy In The Tree’ was inspired by a photo of my friend Elliott climbing a tree, which will be the cover art. What are your plans for the coming months? In April I plan to release my second single ‘Pizza For Breakfast’, and my debut EP The Boy In The Tree in September. In the meantime I plan to keep building up my experience performing live. Do you have any artistic collaboration plans I’ve started playing in a band, but for the moment i’m just looking to collaborate with musicians who can play on my records. I would love to do some collabs though! What message would you like to give to your fans? Whoever you are, thank you for listening, and I want to give you a big ol hug.

Tony Bennett: A Legendary Music Journey
Renowned and timeless crooner Tony Bennett passed away on Friday, bringing an end to his illustrious career that spanned several decades. His passion for classic American songs and his ability to create new standards, such as "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," brought him countless accolades and won him a devoted following from Frank Sinatra to Lady Gaga. His passing came just two weeks before what would have been his 96th birthday, and the news of his death at his home in New York was confirmed by his publicist Sylvia Weiner. Though the specific cause of death was not disclosed, it is known that Bennett had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2016.
As one of the last great saloon singers of the mid-20th century, Bennett often expressed his life-long aspiration to create "a popular catalog, not just popular records." Over the course of his career, he released over 70 albums, earning him 19 Grammy Awards, most of which came after he had crossed the age of sixty. This widespread recognition endeared him to fans and fellow artists alike, and their love for him is bound to endure.
Tony Bennett's journey in the world of music began on August 3, 1926, in Astoria, New York, born to Italian-American parents. Despite a modest upbringing, music was an integral part of his formative years, and his family wholeheartedly supported his musical dreams. After serving in the US Army during World War II, Bennett resolutely returned to the path of music. His performances at clubs and cafes in Manhattan started garnering attention, leading to his signing with Columbia Records in the early 1950s under the stage name "Tony Bennett."
In 1951, his debut single "Because of You" stormed the charts, becoming his first number one hit. From that point onward, his music career flourished. Bennett's unique musical style blended elements of pop and traditional jazz, creating songs that exuded charm. Throughout the late 1950s to the 1960s, he released a series of classic hits, including "Stranger in Paradise" and the iconic "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," songs that not only captivated audiences then but continue to be celebrated as timeless classics today.
Tony Bennett's musical accomplishments extended beyond record sales and chart success. He earned numerous accolades, including 19 Grammy Awards, among them Lifetime Achievement Awards and recognition in the Traditional Pop category, making him a highly respected figure in the music industry.
Beyond the stage, Bennett remained deeply involved in charitable endeavors, supporting education, culture, arts projects, and championing environmental causes. His acts of kindness and contributions to society set an exemplary standard for others to follow.
Despite his advancing age, Tony Bennett's music career never waned. His mesmerizing vocals and enchanting stage presence continued to captivate audiences, both old and new. His music transcended generations, leaving a lasting impression and earning him a well-deserved legendary status.
Tony Bennett will forever be remembered as a musical icon in American history, a man whose life was marked by brilliance and success. His musical genius, the recognition he received, and his philanthropic efforts have etched his name in the hearts of people as an everlasting legend. Whether through his music or his life, he used his voice and actions to express his unwavering love and dedication to music, leaving behind a profound legacy.

Shout Outs
Pianist Yael Weiss held a livestream for her first-ever recital 32 Bright Clouds: Beethoven Conversations Around the World on January 24 at the Strathmore Mansion in Washington D.C. The recital paired Beethoven piano sonatas with newly-commissioned short piano compositions from different parts of the world. Watch the archived version of the recital here.

KERRANG! - April 14, 2001
Rammstein have promised to bring a truly spectacular live show to the UK for a one-off show at London’s Astoria on June 10. Previous shows have featured vast amount of fire, explosive pyrotechnics, an extravagant light show and, most controversially, huge dildos and simulated ejaculation. During their last US tour, the band were threatened with arrest for indecent exposure following a simulated sex act on stage. Rammstein have recently speculated about the possibility of bringing a huge tank of formaldehyde on tour with them. However, plans to use water and neon during the show have been scrapped.
“We came to the conclusion that water was much too hazardous to use,” states guitarist Richard Z. Kruspe-Bernstein. “The danger of being electrocuted was just too real. People have called us irresponsible when it comes to the stage-show. Should something happen to the band members, well, that’s okay, but we would never jeopardize our fans.”
Rammstein’s last live extravaganza was captured on the band’s 1999 DVD/VHS release “Live Aus Berlin”. The latest stage-show is being designed by the band with Roy Bennett a New York-based stage designer who has previously worked with Marilyn Manson, Kiss, Nine Inch Nails and Prince. Although Rammstein have yet to finalise the details of what the new show will involve, they have stated in recent interviews that popular elements from the old show will remain, including frontman Till Lindemann ritual of setting himself on fire.
“The songs of ‘Herzeleid’ (Rammstein’s 1995 debut album) were too static,” says Lindemann, about the band’s first forays into using fire onstage.
“I held onto the microphone stand while others were dancing or flinging things through the air. But that didn’t suit our music, and it really didn’t suit me. So one day I had these two Roman candles in my hand, and that is how the whole thing exploded into life.” Lindemann has become a qualified pyrotechnician in order that no-one outside the band be required to take risks while executing their pyrotechnic effects. He is apparently now only one level away from being qualified to blow up condemned buildings.
“We will try to bring the crowd, the band and the stage as close together as possible,” Kruspe-Bernstein told Rammstein fan site Herzeleid.com recently. “One of our highest wishes is to use video projection throughout important parts of the show. We think it would add yet another dimension.”
Tickets for Rammstein’s London gig are priced at £11 and are available now from all the usual outlets. The band’s new four K-rated album, ‘Mutter’, will be released on April 16 through Motor/Universal.
You can read our exclusive interview with Rammstein in next week’s issue.

WIP game: it doesn’t have to be a thing 👀
hello friend! this is the jargyle, as you know -- here's a lil bit from the latest chapter:
What makes today special is that Nancy is coming over for the first time in over a year.
She just submitted her last draft of a huge project about the ongoing wildfire problem in Western Washington, so she’s driving up, slated to arrive in just a few hours. It’s been too long since she was last in their orbit, and Jonathan’s found himself missing her at random times. Not in big moments, no, but in things he knows she would like – typos in the local paper, the music boxes that Argyle has been tinkering around with as a little DIY project, accidentally putting on the pajama pants that she left at their Astoria place that made it to Washington somehow.
He’s wearing them right now, actually, has been wearing them for a few days in a row. Though Jonathan loves how Argyle’s clothes fit him, loves when Argyle fills out his high school band tees, the novelty of being able to share clothes with Nancy had been…kind of fun. There’s a Margaritaville tank, a gag buy in Argyle’s extensive novelty clothing collection, that is unofficially her knockaround shirt when they’re all feeling lazy – and man, doesn’t that get them both going. As Jonathan walks to their mailbox, a repurposed toolbox that Argyle is stupidly proud of, the warmth of anticipation curls in his stomach and makes a home there. Even from memory, she fits differently in his palms than she used to, her body settled into a shape she’s comfortable with. That’s so good, he thinks.
