Day 26: Costume
Day 26 of @oc-growth-and-development October 2020 prompts
Almost done uploading the late prompts
26: Costumes and disguises are all the same to me
Every disguise Aster wore was like a costume. Rinoa, Vivian, Adam, William, Samuel and Artemis were his best costumes, the ones he made sure were always in top shape in order he needed to dress up as them.
Currently, he was dressed as Rinoa, the eighteen year old red-haired girl from America that was traveling through Europe. She loved wearing black skirts, thigh-high boots and tank tops and a pink jacket. She was confident and could be flirty when she needed to be. Rinoa was his favorite disguise. She could do things he couldn’t like have fun in bars and talk easily with people.
She was dressed up in an elaborate witch costume that was drawing all kinds of looks. Aster minded it but Rinoa never did. Rinoa was a confident woman that wanted to have fun, no matter what.
“As-Rinoa, you enjoying the party?” Gwen asked, leaning next to him.
Gwen was dressed in a simple princess outfit that she had rushed to buy in a costume shop. This operation had been last minute after all, but Aster was a master of disguise. He had all types of outfits lined up, ready to go at a moment’s notice.
“Of course I am!” He said, using the practiced American accent and higher his voice, “Come on, don’t tell me you’re bored already? We haven’t even gotten punch yet!”
“Well-.”
“Well, ladies, if you’re bored, I can show you a good time.” A man dressed in a suit spoke. Aster wasn’t sure what his costume was supposed to be. He turned, making sure to keep Rinoa’s smile when he did. Gwen grabbed his hand and it made his heart skip a beat.
“Hello!” Aster smiled, “What kind of fun?”
The man chuckled, “I think you know what kind.”
Their objective had a thing for red-haired girls, according to Saru and Rin’s report. It would lower his defenses and higher their chances of capturing them if they had both worn red wigs but Gwen had not been able to handle wearing the wig. Instead, Aster had to temporarily dye her hair. Hopefully, the man didn’t prefer natural red hair.
Aster turned to Gwen, dropping the smile but making sure to sound excited, “Jess, that sounds more fun that what we’re doing here! Let’s go, then!”
Gwen pretended to groan but Aster could see her pupils becoming more dilated. As Mosi had informed him and he’d seen from Max, the eyes of the Garwin quintuplets became more slitted when they were getting excited to fight.
“Alright, Rinoa.”
“Rinoa?” The man said and Aster could feel the man, their objective, grab his hair, “What a lovely name. My name is Arthur.”
Aster smiled, turning to him, “Well, Arthur, show me and Jess a fun time!”
Gwen smirked as they left the scene and Aster almost did. When the cameras were played back to find out what happened to Arthur Potter, thanks to their disguises and costumes, no one would know what happened to him.

Aster: *sweats nervously*
Aster has dyed his hair more than anyone else. He says it's to hide from that man but he does not use the wigs he owns. He feels better changing his hair color since he feels detached from the old Aster. Currently, his hair is white.

Day 12: Drip
Day 12 of @oc-growth-and-development October 2020 prompts
12: Drip, Drip, Dream of Wings
Aster looked outside the window where water dripped down from the rain that happened last night. The trees swayed slowly with the wind and the sky was overcast. It might rain again, he thought to himself as he leaned his face against the window.
Drip, drip, drip.
Aster closed his eyes and imagined himself sprouting wings that were strong enough to carry him away from this place. He wanted to fly and feel the raindrops on his whole body. He could smell the petrichor in the wind as he flew.
Drip, drip, drip.
If he could fly, he’d be able to touch the clouds or see where the birds that were free flew too. He’d be able to visit the sea again, see the tops of trees and maybe he could sleep in their branches. He’d be able to look down at the cities filled with so many people.
Drip, drip, drip.
If he had wings, he would be happy.
The rain picked up again, the pitter-patter of the rain hitting his window sounding like a beautiful song. Aster smiled as he felt his mind at peace. He was a captive now but, one day, he was sure to grow wings and fly away.
When the rain lulled him to sleep, Aster dreamt of flying in a sky filled with yellow and orange hues.

Day 8: Festival
Day 8 of @oc-growth-and-development October prompts
8: Festival = Fun
“It’s so beautiful!” Max said loudly, much to Rin’s embarrassment. Megumi chuckled while Aster covered his face in embarrassment as well. Max pointed at a stall, “Look at the food! It’s takoyaki, right, Rin? I remember you cooked them once!”
Megumi pulled Max back, fixing the obi of the young man, “Behave yourself. I know you’re excited but we don’t want to get caught by our enemies so quickly.”
“Sorry,” Max laughed, “I don’t have any memories of being in a Japanese festival. This is so cool. It’s cooler that you and Rin found us some really nice kimonos to rent. I think we look good but is it okay for us to wear kimonos like these?”
“Sure it is.” Megumi said, “You look great in it, too.”
Rin smiled, “The blue kimono looks great on you, Max.”
“More chatter, more eating.” Aster mumbled.
“Games first!” Max said, dragging Rin, “I want to get the good prizes!”
“Max, wait up!” Rin squeaked as the boisterous boy dragged him away.
“Geez, that guy is such a kid.” Aster laughed while Megumi chuckled.
“It’s cute,” Megumi said, still smiling, “He’s such a loveable puppy.”
Aster nudged Megumi, “I thought you said he wasn’t your type.”
Megumi snickered as they walked through the stalls, stopping to purchase yakitori, “He’s not. He isn’t mature enough for me. Still, I can’t deny he’s got a special charm to him.”
Aster shrugged, “I suppose so.”
Megumi looked up at the night sky, “You can’t see stars from here.”
Aster looked up and didn’t know what Megumi expected. The lights of the city would not allow them to see the sky. The festival’s lanterns didn’t help either. He looked down and saw Megumi looking almost wistful. Was he thinking about that cabin they’d spent the night in before the truth came out and they ran away?
He hated seeing his friend look like that. Megumi was a chipper guy on par with Max. These recent days made him look sullener. He wished he could do something to cheer him up. He turned and grinned.
“Megumi, look, cotton candy!”
Megumi blinked, confused, “Watame?”
Aster nodded, “Your favorite!”
Megumi grinned, “All great festivals have it. Buy me some.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Aster hurried to purchase one to keep Aster’s spirits up, just as he heard Max scream in delight. He could see the blond holding a large Pikachu in his arms with Rin pretending not to know him. Aster shook his head, not helping himself from laughing too. From what he could see, Megumi couldn’t stop his smile either.

Day 14: Cornered
Day 14 of @oc-growth-and-development October 2020 prompts
14: Cornered by a ghost from the past
Aster cursed silently as he came across the dead end. He hit the wall with all the frustration he felt in his chest. He was cornered like a rat in a trap. There was nowhere he could hide in the clean hallways of the building. There was a vent, but he couldn’t reach it. It was too far from his hands.
“Hello, Aster.”
Aster felt his entire body freeze while a shiver went down his spine. He didn’t want to turn around. He was scared. He knew that voice. The voice of the man that had killed his parents and had kept him locked away for years like a caged bird.
“Agnus. . . Villar.”
“I really could not believe it. You dyed your hair white but your face is still the same.”
Aster couldn’t help the shaking in his legs. He wanted to turn around and shoot that man in the face. He wanted to scream curses at that man or just hurt him. But he was still terrified. As terrified as he had been when he was eleven and this man had stolen him from his old life, killing his parents and illegally marrying him. He had been a child. He still was. Six years from that horrible day had passed and he was still terrified of this man.
“Why don’t you look at me? We haven’t seen each other in three years since you decided to have a vacation.”
Vacation. Aster had run away. Had written the letter showing how much the man repulsed him and how he hated him. Absence did not make the heart fonder, Aster thought bitterly as he took out the gun from his holster.
“Aster, you shouldn’t be using guns. You told me you didn’t like them. You said violence was never the answer, remember?”
A stupid ten-year-old had said those words to a mafia boss a long time ago. The Aster of then, stupid Aster Overland, was not who he was now. It was why he had dyed his hair white to never forget the snow of that day. He was Aster Liddell, the Ace Joker of Cardec.
Aster turned around, pointing the gun of the man that had ruined his life six years ago. His hand was trembling, but he glared with all his might at the man before him. He was not going back to that gilded cage. He’d rather die.
“Agnus Villar,” He growled out, “I am not who you think I am. The memory of that child is gone. I am the Ace Joker of Cardec and I am your judge, jury and executioner.”
The man didn’t look concerned as more men piled into the dead end. They pointed their guns at him and Aster felt like screaming. He was more trapped than ever. He would not go back to that gilded cage. He was free!
From above, a canister fell, creating a white fog. The men shouted and Aster saw a familiar face pop out from the vent. Max extended his hand, looking worried, while Megumi held onto Max’s legs. He was sure Rin had been the one to throw the canister.
He wasn’t alone like he had been six years ago, or even three years ago.
He smiled, jumping and grabbing Max’s hand. Max pulled him up with his monstrous strength while Megumi pulled Max up. The minute Aster was inside the vent, Max closed it. Megumi hugged Aster and Aster leaned his head on the other boy’s shoulders. His heart was pounding so hard.
“You’re safe.” Megumi mumbled as Max passed something to Rin.
Aster breathed in the familiar scent of their apartment in Megumi’s clothes and knew that, with his team, with the Jokers, he truly was safe.

21: Trick - I’m free
Aster stared daggers at Agnus Villar from across the room. He hadn’t seen the man in at least two years, but he hadn’t changed. Aster, on the other hand, had. He’d become a competent agent and becoming an emerging master of disguise. This, his trainer had told him, would be the testament of his skills.
In order to become a true master of disguise, Aster had to talk to his old captor and not get discovered. If he successfully tricked Agnus Villar into thinking he was someone else and not Aster Overland, he’d win. If he didn’t, he’d return to that man’s side. It was risky and Aster hated even being close to Agnus. However, he had to prove that he was a master of disguise.
He stood, brushing away the stray hairs off his red wig and fixing his skirt. He cleared his throat, memorizing the story he had invented for himself and trying to not find any inconsistencies. Once he felt he was fine, he moved to the dance floor and became part of the crowd.
He glanced to the side as he danced, watching Agnus drinking alone. He spotted at least three guards with him. Not too close but enough that they’d be able to eliminate any threats to him. Perfect. Now, he just needed a reason to get near him-.
“What’s your name?”
Perfect.
Aster turned to the young man who’d spoken. He smiled and raised his voice an octave higher while trying to speak with an American accent. He didn’t force it enough to sound fake but enough to sound a bit feminine and non-English, “Rinoa!”
“Rinoa?! What a nice name!”
“Thank you!”
“I’m Thomas!”
Come on, just say it. Get to the bottom of this exchange.
“Are you single?”
Aster pretended to be a bit remorseful, “Sorry, I have a boyfriend. He’s over there.” He pointed at Agnus, even though he wanted nothing to do with that man.
“Really? Dude looks ancient! How old are you?”
“Eighteen.” Aster lied.
“Damn, better luck next time, then!” Thomas left and Aster noticed some guys were looking his way. He smiled politely before walking towards Agnus.
He really didn’t want to do this. His heart was beating too fast. He could feel his legs wobbling and he was sure it wasn’t because of the heels. He needed to do this, though. He had to prove himself. He could do this!
“Hey there.”
Agnus looked up from his drink. He looked at Aster up and down for a good moment. Aster felt like he could see right through him. Could he? Did he discover his secret?
“What is it?”
Aster put his hands together with a small laugh, “I didn’t want anyone to bother me so I kinda told them you were my boyfriend.”
Agnus shook his head, “Why would you do that? Couldn’t you pretend to have a boyfriend back home?”
“Well, you’re the biggest guy around here so no one’s going to mess with you.” Aster replied.
Agnus drank from his cup before addressing him, “How old are you?”
“Eighteen.”
“You look younger than that.”
Aster giggled, wishing he could punch himself instead, “Thanks for the compliment, sir! I’m Rinoa, by the way!”
Agnus looked at him again and Aster played with his wig hair. The man sighed, “I apologize, Ms. Rinoa, but I am married.”
Aster’s blood ran cold. Married. That man still thought they were married. He’d run away two years ago, writing that note that told him that he would never see him again. He’d made it clear that he wanted nothing to do with the killer of his parents. And this man still had the audacity to say he was his husband?
“I see. Is she nice?” Aster asked, almost slipping into his old voice.
“He’s overseas now but he’ll return home any minute. Until that day comes, I shall remain loyal to him.”
Disgusting bastard.
Aster smiled, “Well, I know when a battle is lost. I hope you and your husband are happy.”
He turned and left, heading straight for the bathrooms. He looked around and left through one of the emergency exit doors. He leaned on the side of the building, feeling so scared and disgusted.
He could feel no joy for successfully tricking Agnus. That joy of being proven to be a master of disguise was overshadowed by Agnus’ belief of their marriage and that they would be reunited one day.
“You’re outside, you’re okay.” Aster mumbled to himself, hugging himself, “You’re okay, you’re safe, you’re outside.”
He was free now. He would never go back to that gilded cage if he could help it.
“You’re okay, you’re free.”
I’m free.

Black Jokers Edition
Max
Max has the most scars of the main 4. He has one hidden by his bangs of the left side of his temple. He has a small scar on his left shoulder and four notable ones on his back. He's unsure where some of them originate from. The only one he has an idea of is the temple scar since it was the cause of his amnesia.
Rin has two scarson his wrist, and one hidden on the back of his neck. His wrist scar was, allegedly, not caused by him on purpose but had to do with an accident with a katana. It doesn't explain the twin scar, however. The hidden neck scar is a scar Rin doesn't speak about, but the others believe it has to do with the family he refuses to talk about.

Megumi
Megumi, surprisingly, hardly has any scars despite his past. The only ones he has are on his feet. Two scars on his right foot and one on his left foot. The origin of his scars? He tried to rob some gangsters in Tokyo shortly after his escape from his mother. It didn't end well for Megumi.

Aster
Aster has only one scar on his left thigh. He obtained it while escaping the Villar Manor in Italy.
