Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you’ve written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love ♥️
Thank you @astecea-rae for the tag! Let's see how I do on this because i've only ever written Superbat (boring I know)
(also omg I'm sorry for taking so long, I made the draft for this post and then just didn't have time to write anything in it)
Going in order of how proud I actually am of them:
Finding this is hard
This started out as purely self-indulgent fluff and a bit more batfam-centered than what I normally go for, but plot and angst introduced themselves of course, and I ended up with maybe the first fic I'd ever written that actually had a bit of plot?
But in your sacred air I'm full of light
Blurted this one out in an afternoon, and I really like how it turned out. I like writing like this. In fact, I have something kinda similar in the works from Clark's POV. (don't expect it to be the same thing but reversed, it's a completely different story)
Good for now
I kinda forgot about this one but I'm actually so proud of the dialogue between Bruce and Clark here. Need to write more morning fics. I'm a morning person too, it's my favourite part of the day and something about early mornings is just so magical.
Naps are overrated, anyway
Oh man, this is one of my favourites for sure. I think it's maybe the funniest fic I've ever written, but I also have a weird sense of humour so idk. I'd had the idea for soooo long before writing it but couldn't find the vibe or the words, until I read a chunk of the 1997 JLA run and researched the layout of the watchtower a bit more. And then I just stomped it out in 3 days.
And now's the time to kiss
I'm for sure the most proud of this one. I was ecstatic when the html code actually worked so you hopefully get the full kryptonian experience when reading it. It also involved a lot of research, and learning a new language (i forgot all of it already). And the best thing, pre-crisis vibes. I just loved writing every scene of it.
Uhh, let's see. I'm bad at tagging games but I'll tag @blorb-el, @superbattrash, @superbatdisasterblog, and whoever else wants to do this.
#now i'm realizing most of these are bruce's pov#i do have more wips in clark's pov and one of those is more plot-heavy#but job means almost no time to write so ugh#uhhhh idk how to tag this im falling asleep so#tag game#write write

so this beckons this question. how long can Clark live up to under a yellow sun? can Kryptonians die under a yellow sun?
Hi, thank you for your question! This turned out really long and rambly, sorry!
Ok so i might have said literally 100,000 (and up to 1,000,000) years old in that previous post but it's a little more complicated than that. In this arc (action #385-387) he travels forward through the time-stream but unfortunately also ages the amount of years he travelled (and he can't travel back). So, technically he is not 100,000 years old but just looks as if he were. (still pretty good looking for a fossil Clark).
That being said, you might take this as confirmation that he could grow 1 million years old, or at least pre-crisis Superman. And without death by kryptonite of course.
There are also (pre-crisis) stories where he ages quicker though. And post-crisis Superman beyond he has some wrinkles and grey temples when Bruce is already an old ass man.
putting the rest under a read more because of length
Superman Beyond #0:
Then there's Kingdom Come, in which he looks like this after 1000 years:
And recently we've seen in Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman that Clark becomes very old but not as old as Diana:
Here, he dies fighting Darkseid in the sun. So he maybe could have lived longer... but the sun was also dying, so that will complicate things for him. I believe the Future State timeline said this was 80,000 years into the future. (I still haven't read future state: house of kent but i think he's pretty dilfy in that one too).
There's also DC one million which I haven't read yet but is very high on my to read list. To my understanding Clark becomes a golden, lighting, god or something in the 853rd century. My god that's another one. in All-star he meets himself from the future (though he doesn't realise), from the year 4500.
So you've got some different options: does he age a bit slower but still end up like an old man in about a thousand years, or barely age at all and easily make it to 100,000 years, or does he simply live as long as our sun is a yellow sun?
It doesn't really matter. The universe is so richt and Superma's story won't ever really end (at least I hope because I want more comics).
Personally, I like when Clark ages very slowly and lives long after all his loved ones have died because of the angst potential.
So yeah, fave is definitely when he ages slowly, grows old and just keeps helping people and humanity and has lived a life that he can be content with and can be proud of newer heroes that have stepped up to fill his shoes... and now i'm thinking of the ending of Invincible. Like if Superman's story ever ends it should be similar to that in terms of overall feeling, obviously not exactly the same because Lois won't age like he does. The ending of Invincible is why the phrase 'what will you have in 500 years, mark?' still makes me cry. It's just so satisfying when comics actually have an ending and like I said we won't really ever get that for Superman, but it's also why stories like whatever happened to the man of tomorrow are so popular I think. But if Clark's story ever ends I hope it's like Invincible's ending (so mostly like the Kingdom Come one I guess haha).
Anyway, what do you like in terms of Clark's aging process and ability to (not) live forever?
#sorry this turned into an invincible rant in the end#this became a very rambly and long answer to a question that doesn't really have an answer#asks#astecea-rae#clark kent#superman

ok for the no homo carry at least they can let Clark hug Bruce from behind, with Clark's arms wrapping Bruce's chest from behind. at least that is more secure and Bruce is not dangling on Clark's hands by his armpits and Clark doesn't need to worry if he's going to drop Bruce
Yeah literally it looks so uncomfortable? and bruce looks stiff as a statue lmao. It looks as if Clark is holding him as far from his body as possible :(
The hugging from behind thing would be a big improvement. Safer, more comfortable, more sharing of bodily warmth. I mean, what if Bruce gets cold during the flight? Clark should've thought of that smh.
Absolutely love Dan Mora's art in the book though.
#a million ways to carry a bat and they chose the most awkward one#i'm gonna pick up my copy this weekend or next week probs#superbat#asks#astecea-rae

I got tagged by @blorb-el to rate some fanfic tropes using this tier maker. Uhh, I never do these things normally but this one seemed fun. Did this in 5 min before going for dinner because it's my birthday but anyway.. my taste:
Yeah i like to hurt myself with unrequited love and unhappy endings.
Umm, I also have no idea who's done this, but I tag @jellyfitzjelly, @astecea-rae, and @pinto-bordeaux

@astecea-rae: damn this is a detailed answer to my long time confusion. I always think maybe he just lives twice the age of normal human than goes "okey dokey I'm off" and obviously it is not. thinking of his life span really hits right in the feelings, esp the Kingdom Come one because I really like Kingdom Come. also as someone who rarely read pre-crisis stuff I have to say there are some pretty banger shit pre-crisis
though I can't answer on the Invincible questions 'cause I haven't watched it yet. but tbf now I'm a little bit itsy bitsy tempted. thanks for the thorough answer! it really cleared the air for me and opened a lot of doors for me which I didn't know they were there
Hi and sorry I didn't respond to this sooner, I've been feeling pretty sick and was absolutely conked out pretty much all of yesterday afternoon.
I think my feeling sick might explain the ramblyness of my answer lol. But I'm glad you liked it! There is just so much, so I think any interpretation you have of Clark's aging is valid. The long lifespan makes for such good angst with his loved ones dying before him and the knowledge that that will happen. It's good in fics at least. And I like to think that that doesn't make Clark turn bitter or angsty and moody, he just keeps going and helping people all around the world, maybe a bit more melancholic and even more lonely, but he wouldn't just give up or anything.
As for pre-crisis bangers: yes! There's some great stuff, and I'm sure @blorb-el knows a lot more about it than me with regards to how Superman changed through the decades and stuff. Though if you're looking for recommendations I'm always happy to help!
With Invincible I was talking more about the ending of the comic, not the show. But please watch it! Or read the comic first and then watch it, even better (if you have time to read 144 issues of the 'best superhero comic ever made'). It will take a long time for the show to get to the ending I was talking about (if they ever do), so I would recommend reading the comic if you want a taste of that.
unrelated pic of Mark meeting 'batman' in Invincible #33
