Yet I still find myself so enthralled when I find a 14 year old pokemon trained by May.

And I feel almost guilt when I release the low IV'd mons someone sent me for my own breedject fodder.

I keep some.

Those with ribbons, 5-6 IVs, high levels.

Value ive assigned to them based on how i enjoy the games.

But without electricity and the systems that contain them

Its all just pixelized memories.

How real is something that's intangible?

Something that may not exist forever.

I'll always have the memories no?

Not entirely.

The human mind is a fleeting and fickle thing.

But when I try to imagine my life without the experiences those pixelized memories brought me?

Im left feeling empty.

Its so interesting how even half a lifetime later,

I'm still the same player,

Using so many different names,

But they're all me.

I lived through every part of them.

Just as they've found life through me.

Being a great artist and being a good person are in fact not correlated. And I need you all to internalize this so badly because the idea that art is a moral litmus test is and always has been bullshit. It makes it so much easier to excuse awful people when you have this conception tying them to good art. I've never passed a single test labeling American States from elementary school to high school. I kept my schedule with me throughout the entire year because if I didn't look at it every day I'd forget which classrooms I had to go to and when, and sometimes I'd still get it wrong. I have my own home address written down on a piece of paper because I won't remember where I live otherwise.

genuinely there are just people who have a difficult time with rote memorization. some people just have horse piss memory in general.

at some point the talking point shifted from making fun of racists who can't even find the people they're bigoted against on a map to just baseline insisting that being bad at geography is a moral issue in and of itself.

Can i be real with you for a moment... Tolkien writing books about how horrible imperialism is while basing the morality in them on imperialist narratives. Rowling writing books about importance of tolerance and love that are full of deeply internalised sexism, homophobia, antisemitism, racism, you name it. Herbert writing a spectacular deconstruction of a white saviour narrative while actively coopting, misrepresenting and almost insulting/villanising middle eastern cultures and people.

Only one of these is so exempt from criticism in popular culture, only one is treated like a holy, untouchable saint who cannot be questioned or criticised and whose works should not be altered or whose ideas cannot be questioned in new interpretations.

Where does this come from, is it the association with the christian dogma? Its exhausting especially since it appears in the fandom too - there is surprisingly little actual analysis of the problematic aspects of his works in comparison to any other fandom that i've been in.

To me, one of the most baffling changes the donghua made was making it so demonic cultivation is actually what caused wwx to snap. The book's "wwx snapped after witnessing his clan die, being thrown in the torture pit for 3 months, participating in a war, getting isolated from his family, and suddenly becoming responsible for a clan that's being actively persecuted and the only safe place is the aforementioned torture pit. Wwx doesn't let anyone know the full extent of his pain, so everyone incorrectly assumes the demonic cultivation is what's making him act up. Also Demonic cultivation is the one the one thing letting him keep his illusion of control and power, so he lashes out against people like lwj who are trying to take it away from him" just makes more sense to me and is also more consistent with the idea that resentful energy and the study of it is morally neutral

im gonna be honest whenever people talk about paying people "what they're worth" there's a part of me that feels a little like how it feels to say "gay people should be allowed in the military." like, yes, objectively true that it's fucked up the discrimination exists, and it's a good idea to fix that problem while we're working to fix the long-term problem, but also i am morally opposed to the entire overarching system, so. weird position to be in.
