The Fateful Findings Exhibition came down at @arcgallerysf yesterday BUT....the Lost & Found fine art books are STILL AVAILABLE and can be purchased online to be sent to you anywhere in the world! Find the link in the Lost & Found book tab in my bio's Linktr.ee This is a gorgeous hardcover book with 207 pages that feature 8 exceptional assemblage artists of Northern California. I am super proud to be counted as one of them along with Hans Bruhner, Larry Fuete, Cat Kaufman, Monty Monty, Sean O'Donnell and Spencer Brewer + Esther Siegel of @harmonygaits (who are also the book's curators and publishers). Most of these artists are not active on Instagram so to experience their work you need to view it in person OR through the high resolution and beautifully printed pages of this publication. Creía firmemente en la semántica de lo inanimado. Por eso otorgaba significado a los objetos de su alrededor. Sobre todo con aquellos con los que establecía un vínculo afectivo, con los que generaban en él emociones imperecederas . Unos objetos que ordenaba y desordenaba compulsivamente hasta que lograba construir un relato suficientemente sólido para soportar un recuerdo, para permitirle avanzar una nueva etapa del camino. Aquella mañana, en la que concelebraron la liturgia de la despedida quiso una vez más traducir sus emociones al universo material, haciéndolo converger con el intangible permitiendo que anidasen sus almas en aquel lugar en el que reinaba la calma. Así , en ese momento, se propuso crear vida desde lo inerte, fecundándola con las lágrimas vertidas, con el calor de su alma, en silencio, desde lo íntimo. Sintió la eterna inmensidad que provocaba el nacimiento de un recuerdo indeleble. Sopló hasta ver que la emoción respiraba por ella misma y le embargó la tranquilidad de saber que había llegado a tiempo. De haber saldado las deudas. These are the days where I desperately wish I had a tailors mannequin, because demonstrating this lariat/wrap necklace in photos is a challenge. I hope it's kind of understandable. This assemblage art lariat necklace was created using lost and found objects with strange histories. The carved bone part was originally a souvenir Stanhope (a viewfinder of microscopic size pictures) from the late 19th or early 20th Century and was most likely a dip ink pen. Unfortunately, both the Stanhope part and the pen part are missing but we are left with a uniquely decorated ox bone antique treasure with stunning carvings. In the same dusty box of weird treasures I found a hand carved bone awl or fid (maybe Victorian or Edwardian) that would have been used in needlework, tapestry or for making holes in leather. It seemed natural to keep these two objects together and when I found a 1920's Art Deco broken mother of pearl chain which is a lengthy 44 inches long (and 109 beads in total!), it all seemed to work together as a lariat or wrap necklace. I did play with the idea of having chains or sari silk coming out of the Stanhope, but it was all toooooo much. While it was hard to reign in the "let's over do this!" I think I quite like the simplicity of neutral colour tones working together.
