Foods you can consume in rainy season

Monsoon is the season of the year when it rains heavily, and we feel like eating hot, spicy, delicious food. Well, Monsoon is still yet to come, but last couple of days it has been raining in Northeastern region such as Assam

The rainy season can make a person crave for hot, spicy and delicious foods. Some of the mouth-watering rainy season foods can be prepared healtier by including vegetables and fruits to prevent infections due to unhygenic preparation methods.

Types of foods you can include in your diet:

Fruits like peaches, jamun, pears, plum, cherries, lychee and pomegranates should be included in the diet. Fruits containing more amounts of nutrients like Vitamin A, C, fibre and other antioxidants.

Vegetables like bitter gourd, bottle gourd, ridge gourd, pointed gourd, Indian squash are the ones that have to be added in plenty to the daily diet during rainy weather.

Rehydrate your body, have as much as soup.

Turmeric and ginger are well-renowed antiseptics, anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting ingredients that have to be added to the recipes.

Corn is the best monsoon food for people who loves to enjoy the cod weather with something hot and spicy. A person can garnish it with various flavours like spice, butter, garlic and lemon. It is affordable and easily digestible snack for monsoons.

Masala Chai is the best drink to enjoy in the rainy season.

More areas and populations have been affected in Assam, which is the most populous state in the country’s northeast. So far, 11 people have lost their lives and 600,000 people including over 78,000 children across 11 districts have been affected. An estimated 68,600 people have sought refuge in 187 relief camps.

The southern districts of the state, including the Barak Valley, have suffered more than the other regions. Landslides, floods and erosion have been reported from here and nearly 250,000 people are affected. Several trains have been canceled due to the rising water level in the rivers across the state. Additional personnel from the NDRF have been airlifted to the Barak Valley region to bolster the rescue and rehabilitation operation.

Mizoram has been affected more by landslides and storms than flooding. At least 29 people have been killed there with the highest toll reported from the capital city of Aizawl. Local NGOs such as the Melthum Local Council and Young Mizo Association have joined hands with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for rescue and rehabilitation measures.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma has announced an allocation of 150 million Indian rupees ($1.8 million approximately) to the SDRF. Families that have lost kin in the disaster are being paid $4,792 each.

Meghalaya and Tripura have suffered less devastation compared to the other states in the northeastern region. Meghalaya reported five deaths and close to 5,000 people have been affected by storms and landslides.  A portion of National Highway-6 that connects the state to Assam has collapsed near Lumshnong as storms and rains caused landslides. Transportation in the region has been severely disrupted.  Vehicles were seen stranded in videos on social media.

In Tripura, around 2,500 people were rendered homeless and more than 550 houses were damaged due to the incessant rainfall, flooding and thunderstorms. Those rendered homeless have been lodged at 30 relief camps in different districts of the state. Sepahijala, Gomati, Dhalai and Khowai districts were affected the most by the cyclone.   According to an official estimate, about 397 hectares of cultivable land belonging to 1,764 farmers were submerged by the flood in different districts.

You know about my music headcanons already, so I won't repeat myself here. I'll instead say that they love, love, love research for research's sake. Learning for learning's sake. Whenever they travel to a new place with your other love of your life, they're immediately the one trying to assemble as much information about the place as possible. They learn every single language that they come across. They go around marking interesting stuff to research in their free time. Their idea of time spent well is to hide in their room, possibly with Grimm, and just. Read. Write things down. Train in languages. Him being so close by while simultaneously focused on something of his own is their vision of a perfect day, add in rain drumming on the tent and you have them absolutely, utterly content.

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon for the other love of your life =P

So, to continue the train of thought: Grimm likes to draw. A lot. And he's not really secretive about it, but he loves it most when Hollow's simply somewhere nearby and focused on their own thing. He also adds them into almost every painting of his, and it's a game with the two with Hollow searching where and how he'd depicted them this time around. He's also very into "technical" stuff. Not the correct word. Bear with me. He loves precise calculations and spellweaving - that is a shared hobby with Hollow as well, though he sometimes chooses to shut himself away from the world entirely and just FOCUS on the thing that he's doing. It isn't as "light" of a time spent as drawing.

♒ - cooking/food headcanon for Hollow:

They like trying to cook, because it's interesting for them - but damn, are they awful at it. They still have a ton of fun with it, though dsfgdsf They don't really have a favourite food, but they like spicy a lot. It takes a lot of spice to get them as well, since. Void and stuff. (Also, their favourite tea flavour is Assam black tea for Dreamsverse and non-descript white tea for Shatterverse, since I can't find into which of the five types the one i'm thinking falls.)

♒ - cooking/food headcanon for your blorbo supreme:

He's good at cooking. Like. He's godtier at cooking and at mixing beverages too. He loves experimenting with stuff, which is not always welcomed by Hollow, since they're a fairly "there are three comfort foods that I like and I don't need to eat in the first place" person. He's also into spice. He doesn't like some of Hollow's favourite things as well - for example, cilantro. (Favourite tea is rooibos, heheheh. He also loves very strong black teas, though.)

What are some cool places to visit in Assam?? It's my dream to visit Assam for once in my lifetime

See, it depends on when you're visiting and who you're asking. I personally wouldn't suggest visiting during summer because even Assamese people run to Shillong because of the heat and humidity. You can visit during autumn or winter and even spring. I really like the time between January and April, the air just feels lighter... The coming of spring, the leaving of winter, the rains (I don't like rains but still), the new life in the flora is just... Mwah!

About the places, the classic Kaziranga National Park but that's too far from Guwahati so you'll have to stay in Kaziranga for a few days. Fun fact, I've never been there. Also, it's not a very major tourist attraction because it's a very typical place but you need to spend an evening sitting by the river bank in Dharapur and enjoy the sunset while the wind blows your hair away from your face and you just contemplate life. Also, if you're spiritual or religious the Kamakhya temple is a must. You just feel a sort of energy there, you know? I'm not from Tezpur and I've never been there but it has some really scenic places as well. If you wanna know about the history of Assam, Rang Ghar and Talatal Ghar in Sibsagar is a must. They're not the only places but they're some of the most famous ones. You can also visit the Bhupen Hazarika Samadhikshetra in Jalukbari simply because Bhupen Da is beloved by everyone and their mothers and he deserves it all.

So yeah, I think that's enough for now. Just remember that these places are random and cannot be included in a single itinerary unless you're planning on visiting for a long time. I'm not the best person to ask about this because my own state is one of the places I've explored the least in, so do ask the internet just in case. I just mentioned whatever I could recollect at the moment. Thanks for being curious!

Neither of them had bothered to swap the sign on the front door of the bookshop over to OPEN that morning yet. Outside, it was tipping it down. An uncharacteristically decisive sort of rain for London, hard and cold, and it cleared the pavements of tourists, who were ducking in and out of every storefront but A.Z Fell & Co. to stay dry. 

“Miserable out there,” Crowley commented cheerfully.

Aziraphale was at his desk, a pair of teensy little reading glasses perched on the bridge of his nose, shuffling through all sorts of old and yellowing papery bits. 

“Mm,” Aziraphale said vaguely. He held one official-looking paper up to one of the twin desk lamps. By all reasonable assessment, the poor, ancient thing should’ve fallen apart in his gloved hands, but it held quite valiantly together. It also seemed to have something important or interesting or... something of that ilk to say, because Aziraphale suddenly beamed at it and cooed. “Oh very good.” 

“I think I might take a little nap,” Crowley announced. “Perfect weather for it, really.” 

“Alright,” Aziraphale said, not looking up. 

“Shall we open a bottle of something later?” Crowley asked. “Are you…” he eyed the large pile of papers strewn across the little hardwood desk. “Around?”

“Oh yes,” Aziraphale said. 

The mug by Aziraphale’s elbow was sitting exactly where Crowley had set it down about thirty minutes ago. Crowley angled a glare at it, and lightly-steeped assam tea began, sheepishly, to steam again. 

“Well,” Crowely said. “Shout if you need anything.” 

“Will do,” Aziraphale said absently. 

The grand spiral staircase creaked gently underfoot as Crowely climbed it. Gauzy light fell through the big, round skylight overhead. 

It really was perfect weather for a nap.

It helped that the bookshop held an eternal and ambient sort of warmth. Particularly against the gruesome showing that purported to be mid-August outside. It was a glow, a sort of… feeling that pervaded under the toasted almond scent of old paper and polished wood. 

The bedroom lay behind a heavy wooden door, which was slotted improbably into a curving bookshelf. There was a single bed in the room piled with plush blankets that predated the turn of the last century. It was surrounded by rather a lot of books. 

Crowely folded his waistcoat and silver scarfie-thing and set them on a hefty looking leather-bound tome. The rest of his clothing melted into silk pajamas: black as the shifting fabric of the universe before time and relative space; black as the absence of all light and hope —  because they knew what was good for them. 

A single bed. Oh, how Crowley missed his flat sometimes. His Egyptian cotton, his Super King memory foam mattress… and yet. 

The little bed smelled like ancient fabric and the cracked spines of the books that surrounded it. And underneath — you really had to search for it; Crowley climbed in and pressed his face into a feather down pillow to inhale deeply — the whiff of ozone that lifted off an angel sometimes. You might only pick it up if you were, say, another occult being attuned to the scent. And perhaps if the wind caught in the angel's hair, or you stood very, very close. 

Crowley pulled the covers around himself. There were so many layers that the effect was not unlike being pinned under a weighted blanket. Rain pattered against the windowpane, drowning the bustling view of Whickber street into something soft and far away.

Was this bliss? 

It was something very near it, at least. Nothing to do and nowhere to be but here. Later, Crowley would probably sprawl on the couch and watch Aziraphale uncork something red and earthy, something with terrific legs. And then they’d while away an entire night talking, arguing, laughing, drinking into the early hours. 

At which point… Crowley would probably take his leave. It was about time, anyway. He’d spent the last three days in and around the bookshop. Buzzing like a gnat. Taking Aziraphale out to little bars and restaurants, plying him with amuse-bouches and theatre tickets. 

Yeah, he’d slink off to the Bentley tomorrow. Make some trouble for himself. 

He heard, down on the shop floor, Aziraphale fending off an unwitting un-customer with a severe: “I’m afraid we’re closed!” 

Crowley curled up in Aziraphale’s little single bed, and fell into a sweet and dreamless sort of sleep.

half milk, half water, one spoon sugar. imagine for me, if you will, taking a peaceful and serene boat ride through a winding river or perhaps a pond on a sunny summer's day. the water is nice and cool, and from time to time you see the sudden, quicksilver flash of fish beneath the surface. there are birds chirping in the trees, and deer grazing off past the water's edge. the breeze is gentle. all seems right with the world, and you are perfectly and utterly at peace with and within yourself. now imagine for me, if you will, that all of a sudden an angry, rabid beaver tips over your boat and then it starts pouring rain and your phone has fallen out of your pocket into the suddenly murky depths and the deer that were grazing so peacefully are actually carnivorous zombie deer that cannot wait to feast on your flesh. that is what drinking this tea was like. it spits in the face of all chai teas and everything they hold dear. look at its colour. sickly pale. look at its smell. deceptively delicious upon first sniff only. look at its flavour. overwhelmingly cinnamon-cardamom and depressingly flat in every other regards. i wouldn't drink this again if you held a gun to my head. thank you david's tea for this absolutely atrocious blend. its singular saving grace was that it didn't smell evil, and also that r2 and ahsoka are in the picture aww everyone say hi :-).

Day 12 : Ratten Villas - Jodhpur

20th March 2023

The cake was delicious, light and creamy and went very well with a glass of red wine 🍷 

We all wore our finery yesterday evening and were ready for our anniversary meal, unfortunately the rain that had been threatening all day decided to pour down just as our evening was starting.  It was a double edged sword really because on the one hand the rain was a welcome respite from the heat and on the other, we were unable to have our meal in the garden.

Unfortunately the restaurant had all the ambience of a mortuary, it was cold, lifeless and sterile. Not to be deterred we ordered our meals, relishing the thought of the distinctive Rajasthani food, which turned out to be not so delectable after all as it was far too salty. To be absolutely certain my tastebuds weren’t playing up, I shared my meal out and we all agreed on the same.

So there was a storm raging around us, my meal was awful, so what else could go wrong ? Plenty as it turns out.

I was mildly irritated by the time we got back to our room but not enough to be upset, after all I wasn’t charged for the disastrous food I had chosen for myself.

The door was locked, the shower was on except it didn’t work, the joy stick controlling the water speed and the temperature was hanging off the metal bit that should have held it on. To add insult to injury as I called Tony for assistance, I walked slap bang into the shower door.

 Nursing my bruised nose, I finally managed to get showered and ready for bed.

We woke to glorious sunshine this morning and had a very passable breakfast in the garden after which we met our guide for a tour of Mehrangarh Fort.

Mehrangarh Fort holds the pride of place in Jodhpur because of its splendid architecture and the diverse history associated with it. Considered as one of the most formidable and magnificent forts of Rajasthan, Mehrangarh fort was built by Rao Jodha in the year 1459. The fort is spread over an area of 5 km and is built on 125 m high hill in the outskirts of Jodhpur city.

There are seven gates, which can be used to enter the Mehrangarh fort. These 7 gates are made by different rulers, and are built in honour of victory over Bikaner and Jaipur armies.

You can see the panoramic view of the Jodhpur city from this fort, which seems like a blue carpet laid at the foot of a hill. 

Once we had got extremely hot and sweaty, we rejoined our driver for a short drive to Jaswant Thada.

The Jaswant Thada is an architectural marvel with intricate carvings. Famed as one of the most beautiful white marble cenotaphs, it was built in 1899 by Maharaja Sardar Singh in commemoration of his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II. This white marble wonder of Rajasthan is often called the Taj Mahal of Marwar. The splendid edifice is a perfect example of Rajputana style of architecture. Its impeccable design and architecture is symbolic of the fine craftsmanship of the bygone era. The main memorial is built like a temple, with beautiful domes and finely carved sculptures.  We had a quick look around, posed for a photo with two sweet little girls on holiday from Assam and for some reason went back to the fort.

I was caught totally unaware because I didn’t realise that our guide had decided that we would enjoy a walk through the blue city of old Jodhpur via the Heritage route.

What do you see in your minds eye when you read the word “ Heritage?”. Well you can dismiss that picture immediately, because in India the word “Heritage” means a slippery, broken, steep, perilous and unstable road.

I got no further than about two feet when I decided that discretion is the better part of valour and reached out to hang onto Tony and with the other I clutched the guide.

Inch by inch I faltered down the hill, whilst around me strode down confidently.

Finally we reached the bottom of this never ending slope and straight into a chaotic town of honking and revving, shouting and shrieking. Jodhpur bustled with markets and restaurants, homes and shops, it’s air hanging heavy with pungent cooking smells, fresh produce and people.

To walk through Jodhpur was like nothing I’ve experienced before, I thought the streets and slums of Delhi were nerve wracking, but this town is in a league of its own.  I held onto my phone and handbag tightly as we negotiated the narrow streets of the market, quite simply there was no personal space, everyone barged in and out of spaces, voices were raised in bartering for goods, dogs trotted around our legs and occasionally a fight would break out.  Now I see why women carry  goods on their heads, carting a shopping bag around in such a confined area is not practical at all.  Flies buzzed around the food and pools of liquid formed on the ground and we walked on, frequently jumping out of the way of scooters, mopeds, motorbikes and tuk tuk’s which flew by us and from all directions and missing us by mere inches.

Finally we found Jagdish and boy did he look a delightful sight, I leaned back in relief and utter exhaustion as I settled back into my seat.

It’s the sensory overload that is so exhausting in India, there is no respite from the incessant noise, even as I’m sitting by the pool, in this relative haven of calm, I can hear the constant noise of traffic. I don’t think India ever sleeps.

We got back to the RV and the manager greeted us, disappointment clearly etched on his face, he had kindly moved us into a new room, which is perfect and at dinner this evening he stood us a bottle of wine.

Why Assam is always under water?

Rain God lashes Assam year after year ruthlessly. Before the lacerations and Imprints left by the Rains get weaned off, there comes another downpour. Assam isn't spared. But why the rain scourge is relenting the state? There are few resons. Before delving deep, let's learn the boundaries. Assam is situated on the foothills of Himalayas in the North eastern part of India. The Bhramaputra river is mainly fed by the North - East monsoon which is the staple reason behind Assam flood. It also owns thirteen tributaries all these waters flow into Assam in a short period of time. The river Barak also joins together with Bhramaputra to keep the place wet always. Also the next reason cited ,it is heralded that soil is eroded in a massive stretch when there is incessant rains. Rain is playing a havioc and the people run Pillar to post every year seeking relief. This soil erosion and flood play a negative role in the development of the state. As per statistics, the whole of India embarks 10.2 % as rain hit area where Assam stands top with 39.58% of the sate as rain hit areas. The flood problem of the state is aggravated by flash floods of the neighboring states like Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. Bank erosion by Bhramaputra, and Barak and their 50 tributaries has been assessed at 7.50% of the total land in 1954 . The survey conducted in the recent times reveals an alarming picture. It is believed that the width of the river Bhramaputra is now at 15.00 KM due to the strong whip received from rains. Breaches of the embankment due to erosion is a common phenomenon. Every year new areas are recognized as being affected by erosion. The loss due to this havoc has been estimated at ₹ 700 crore the previous year. The nature is at its best goes an olden age.
