The World inside a Ball.

“Can a Ball Change the World?” That’s asking too much of a ball. But a ball has certainly helped over the generations, and there is every reason to believe that in these times of global despair it can do even more. Why not question the old pecking orders, in which expressions of art, beauty and sport are relegated to afterthoughts except as forms of release and entertainment? Why not look to the “ball” — the basketball — a global common denominator that has established itself as a culture of progressive ideas, leadership and diversity. I think the success of my photos is using all different stops and getting the motion of the object in the frame of the picture. I used the all the tools on the camera to blur out the camera’s background to get the exact motion of my photo withe the object as my main frame. I believe my failures to be not having the right Shutter stop and F stop on at the same-time because it makes my motion blurred out and the background in focus. For critique last week in class, I think that my pictures need more work from my view but were actually decent.   They all were different from the other and had it’s own story behind them. When using the camera my perspective and composing for the brightness of the photo had to be even. The light of camera had to mix in withe the backgrounding lights to pop out the difference between the highlights. I was looking at the rule of thirds and angling the direction of the photo. I am looking at the quality of the picture and where should the main object be in the frame. I find it interesting how all the photos gave the audience a sense of the outdoors like how being one with nature. I think the timing of the photo and the different ways of the camera. 

Now three people that I found interesting from Europe, all three were in this article called “TOP 5 BASKETBALL PHOTOGRAPHERS OUT THERE RIGHT” from We are Basket. It was created to show off all the work from for they were best in the world of basketball. Their names are Kevin Couliau, Richard James Daniels, and Charlie Lindsay. 

First, I would like to start out with Kevin Couliau who's work is wonderful. He grew up in France, mostly enjoyed documenting sports through the lens of his camera. In 2004, he started capturing playground basketball’s aesthetic for various international publications. He devoted his work to photographing for brands like Nike and K1X. His latest project is the printed magazine: “Asphalt chronicles”, a photography magazine about the true essence of basketball, from pick up games to courts around the world. His work is fun and creative for he traveled the world and looked for different rims with different stories behind them.

Secondly, the man of the hour is no other but Richard James Daniels, who is a documentary photographer and videographer currently based in Essex (Near London), England. He has a passion for photographing contemporary Asian culture and has spent nearly 25 years working in South East Asia including Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong and Jakarta, Indonesia. He’s dedicated over 5 years of his life to documenting basketball-courts and culture in the Philippines. In this ongoing series, Daniels has captured over 500 basketball courts and backboards in the hope that they will be replaced and improve the circumstances of the people. I found his work to be very interesting and fun to look at because he didn't go looking for the ball but found the passion thru the hoop.

Lastly, I would like to talk about this man of wonders best known as Charlie Lindsay. He is also known as the Michael Jordan of basketball photography. Where he has taken the world of basketball by storm with his ability to create incredibly dynamic images. At only 27 years old, Lindsay has had the chance to shoot NBA superstars from LeBron James to Kobe Bryant. His dream, however, is to capture an image of shooting-guard for the Sacramento Kings, Vince Carter before he retires. He has dedicated his career the life of ball and gave other the opportunity to express their work of the rim across the world. To the show the love of the game though the rim and ball.
