One of the defining characteristics of ASD is the need for routines, restricted interests and repetitive behavior. However this tends to be extremely reduced as a very overall clinical explanation, and that's one of the main challenges we face day to day. This "need" for sameness and repetition isn't strictly a coping mechanism to avoid anxiety stemmed from an unpredictable world, we're not little anxious machines just trying to survive. We tend to remember and relive our past memories with the same intensity and energy that we felt for the very first time. An example of this can be places we visited during our childhood years as they still have the power to produce the same soothing or euforic feeling. Last week I decided to take a trip to Acapulco in an effort to get away from so much craziness and uncertainty.
