I'm sharing the collection of kohatu I painted before they are sent off on another journey with their new owners. There were many of you who connected with the stones while I was painting them - I'll be in touch with you all soon! When I am gathering kohatu they are held with respect and aroha and the whenua where they have been gathered is always acknowledged. This has been my journey since I began painting them 22 years ago! A friend of mine posted a kohatu I painted for her right at the beginning of my rock painting journey. I had totally forgotten I had painted it! Over the coming days I'll be painting new kohatu and sharing kohatu that I have available. It has always been challenging for me over the years to charge for these taonga, they are gifts of the earth, they are priceless and I am grateful to be able to bring their stories to life through the markings placed upon them. But they live up to their name - kohatu or koha-tū - a special gift and I want people to enjoy them for the beautiful healing kohatu they are. “Kei ōku ringa” I began this project with yesterday's full moon, painting a kohatu (stone) a day, photographing each stone and sharing a message for Papatūānuku. I don't know how long this one will go on, 10 days, 100 days. There is no set time. One person can make a difference. One person can bring about change. Change begins within. Each kohatu I create, I want to send to all corners of the earth, to those who will carry it's message in their own circles and communities. Would you like one of the kohatu I paint for this project?
