I find it very interesting how people react to shippers based on what they themselves think is the meaning of shipping. For me personally, it's a spectrum from finding a non-romantic relationship entertaining up to thinking the shipped people are soulmates.

I was wondering how you see Alysmond as the white/ reversed Dettles. I'm not hating just curious

Well, to start Daemon and Aemond are literally mirrors of each other(right down to their names).

Both are second sons of House Targaryen who must forge their paths in life since they’ll never inherit the throne. They have both done their share of questionable things to make their mark and they get more caught up with their need for vengeance, personal glory, and the women in their lives, than their responsibilities to their first families.*

*Daemon is married, but he is in an open marriage and Aemond isn’t married, but he’s betrothed to a lady from a great house to the benefit of his family.

Alys and Nettles are both lowborn bastard (non-Valyrian) women without a dollar to their names who have accusations(real or imagined) of witchcraft thrown their way. Both have the chroniclers of the Dance questioning why these powerful princes (who could have anyone they wanted) would ever look their way.

Alys is an old wetnurse though young looking and Nettles is young though “ugly” and Black. They are not who you would typically picture princes of the realm would want and yet Aemond and Daemon are infatuated in love with them to the point where they are willing to do things for them and put their lives ahead of anyone else’s.

Aemond goes back to Harrenhal after having abandoned it to save Alys from Sabitha Frey(this is something he didn’t even do for his mother and sister who were trapped in Kings Landing*) and Daemon chooses to abandon his wife and queen to save Nettles from an untimely death.

*I know he had his reasons for not going back/it probably would’ve been suicide going by himself, but that isn’t the point. He could’ve easily left Alys to her fate, but he didn’t same thing goes for Daemon with Nettles.

Both couples also have a severe age gap (20+ years) which is where in part the problematic accusations come into play (especially for Dettles).

I’ve seen people use the excuse that even though Aemond is a prince Alys is older than him. Hence, it evens out the power imbalance issue in comparison to Dettles, but what good is being older when your man/husband you married (with next to no witnesses) could turn on you at any moment, abandon you, or order your death and no one would bat an eye?

Aemond would never do that cause he cares for her, but he could easily do so and face 0 consequences for his actions, same for Daemon. Age isn’t a get-out-of-jail-free card. It doesn’t protect a peasant woman against a prince. Alys has no more power in her relationship with Aemond than Nettles does with Daemon.

And honestly, Nettles does have a dragon. It’s nothing compared to what Daemon has, but she’s not completely powerless. If she didn’t want to be with Daemon based on her character(she’s a fighter) I think she would’ve left Maidenpool way sooner and never looked back.

Now their relationships aren’t carbon copies of each other, and it’s fine to like one more than another or you don’t like either, but the premise and dynamics at play (rich boy falls in love with and saves the poor girl; think Cinderella, but worse 🤣) are pretty much the same.

House Tully is one of the Great Houses of Westeros. Their lands are the central part of the continent. Their seat is Riverrun, a castle at the confluence of the Red Fork of the Trident with the Tumblestone. They rule over the Riverlands from the castle and the head of the house is the Lord of Riverrun.

There is a lot of magic in Westeros (fck the show for not delving into the actual FANTASY SIDE). But you are connected to many things, without knowing. Dreams, random prophecies - but one of the biggest things is that ravens flock to you. Like the photo above, you can ... talk to them and they know what you say. Over the years you built trust with them, and they may not seem like much of a threat - but hell, they have claws and beaks and will die for you.

Although Gendry came from humble beginnings, he's a very intelligent man. Yet, when he's around you his brain doesn't seem to work. Words are jumbled and once he actually tripped over and fell flat on his face.

First and foremost, you will always be protected - no matter what. Yes ... maybe he has a tracker on your car, and always has 'find my phone' on so that he knows where you are. All these precautions, is because of his line of work. He will neVER let anything come to harm you.

Despite the harshness of this job, Kyle shows understanding and compassion towards you. Giving you so much care and attentativeness.

Loves banter between you two. Early on in the relationship he called you his wife and would introduce you as such to practically everyone.

If ever there was one, Kyle would be a supportive and protective boyfriend. Encouraging you to do that wish you wanted. If you didn't want to do something, he's the first to tell you that it's okay not to do it.

Gives you gifts on random occassion. A bracelet here, then a bouqeut of flowers four days later. When he comes back from work he gives you presents as well i.e., earrings, or tokens of where he's been.

Something that he has and the others do not - is very good communication. Especially when it comes to loved ones. With you, he knows how scary it can get with him away, so he finds ways in wish you never feel alone.

Do you have favorite noncanon ships in asoiaf/f&b ?

Hi anon, fun question! I think most of my ships are technically non-canon? I definitely like my crackships.

Well, if you've found my blog you probably know that I would have solved the Dance with Aegon II/Baela Targaryen, but in case you didn't, please climb aboard this ship. @aifsaath and I have a post-Dance fic we're co-writing about them (and individual projects as well).

Jace/Cregan is one of those ships that feels like canon, even though the books don't mention it once. It is canon in my heart. I don't even really like Cregan, but I like to pretend this is the real reason he kept the war going after Rhaenyra died.

Helaena/Kermit Tully. I think I could talk Viserys into it and then Aemond wouldn't burn the Riverlands. Think of the lives saved. As a bonus, he's age appropriate and has cute freckles.

Alicent/Tyland Lannister postwar queerplatonic life partners

I guess the show made Jaime/Brienne canon but in the books they're not really (yet??). They were my first asoiaf ship years ago, which I suppose is a pretty common experience.

fAegon/Sansa. I just think it's a neat idea.

Someone asked me about the most chaotic pairings I could think of and I thought about Euron/Ramsay as a joke but then I was kind like ... but maybe?? Okay probably not ... but?? Look, I was curious enough to search up fic. There are 9 of them, and at least one is in French.

4. What was the lack straw that made you finally block that annoying person?

I think I've blocked most jon//sa shippers. It has made my experience navigating Jon, Sansa and asoiaf tags much better. 100% recommend.

17. There should be more of this type of fic/art.

There should be more fics and art about Targaryens winning Robert's Rebellion because I want to see Dany & Jon interacting with the rest of their family.

Also, let me talk about my Stark unpopular ships which don't get enough attention in the fandom.

First of all, my girl Arya and the very cute crush Ned Deyne has on her. Arya spending time in Dorne! Boy named after her father! The rich history between the Deynes and the Starks! Oh, the possibilities.

Still, Arya's ship it's more popular than those of her brothers I'll list below.

Let's more to Jon Snow and Alys Karstark. Jon rescued her, she's totally his type and they flirted on the Wall. Again great potential for this one.

Finally, Bran and the adorable girls that are around his age. Bran x Shireen? Both don't fit westerosi ideal psychical appearance and both are so sweet kids. Father in law Stannis as a bonus xD Bran x Myrcella? They were so innocent when they met at Winterfell but if they ever met again they would be so much more mature due to all the stuff that happened to them. The deadly rivalry between their families makes it even more interesting to me. And unlike Rickon who more often appears in fanon pairings with these girls at least Bran is close to their age.

If anyone is saying the first part they are a hypocrite, but they are only partially lying about the last part.

Aegon did not groom Helaena, their father forced them together so by default they win, however I’ve seen Helaegon stans over-inflate that couple too with notions of love. Aegon probably loved Helaena, but not as a wife.

Both ships aren’t romantic, but only one involved someone grooming their niece for a throne(and then abandoning her when he realized how hollow it all was and what he couldn’t live without the actual woman he loved romantically) while the other tried to honor his sister wife in death☕️

so, one aspect of catelyn which i think is underrated (certainly the biggest adaptation loss which nobody talks about) is her, let's say superstitiousness, or better yet, let's call it genre-savviness, being one of the few adult characters open to magic and the supernatural in this fantasy world. we first meet her in the godswood, home of gods which are not truly hers, yet she is still very aware of their power. when she and ned talk of the deserter he killed, he hopes he won't have to go with the nw to deal with mance rayder, but she has even more fear of that idea bc there are worse things beyond the wall than just wildlings. ned scoffs and says she's been listening to old nan too much, but she's right. we already know from the prologue that she's right! and here she is, understanding the genre of their world better than her husband, who was actually born and spent his earliest years in this northern land of deep magic, listening to old nan's stories. same with the direwolves, where she was uncomfortable with them at first, but later believed in them as guardians from the old gods even after robb had lost his own faith. and once again, we know she's right even if she doesn't know the evidence to back up her instincts, bc summer and shaggydog did not fail bran and rickon and robb was almost certainly a warg like his brothers. (perhaps making it more fitting that she's the one brought back as a fantasy vengeance monster, not ned and robb, the most unbelieving dead starks.) and in her 2nd agot chapter, everyone focuses on her ambition in wanting ned to agree to the hand job (pun intended) and sansa's betrothal, and while she does recognize the value of their daughter being a future queen more than ned does, that's only her stated argument bc she thinks it's rational enough for ned to listen to. (if ambitious matchmaking were as important to her as to her father she never would have made those frey betrothals fandom loves to blame her for.) in her own head there's a deeper urge driving her. she keeps thinking of the dead direwolf with antlers in its throat, an omen which filled her with dread from the first she heard of it, before robert's arrival, and thinking of it again is what makes her desperate to convince ned not to refuse robert. she had to make him see. and really, she's not wrong, as jon snow would say. the dead direwolf was an omen of ned and robert getting each other killed. it's just one of those misread portents, with no way of knowing the danger to ned was in his loyalty to robert, not conflict with him. BUT the next time she's dealing with baratheons, she knows exactly what she's talking about. it's catelyn, not brienne, who sees the shadow slaying renly, and explains that it was stannis who did that through some dark magic. with no way of knowing how it was achieved and no prior expectation that such a thing were ever possible, she realizes with no hestitation that stannis was guilty and that his red witch was capable of pulling this off somehow. really, the only instinct of the supernatural she's wholly wrong about is her insistence that varys gathered his knowledge through some dark enchantment. however, though that might offend varys, given his own personal experience with a sorcerer, i'd say it's a reasonable assumption without knowing the dude had children moving through walls everywhere like oversized rodents. and imo it just shows she had a healthy respect and awe for varys's power which most other characters lack.

oh, oh, and let's not forget that she also believed in the curse of harrenhal, from her own childhood and the stories old nan told her kids. "and every house that held Harrenhal since had come to misfortune. Strong it might be, but it was a dark place, and cursed. 'I would not have Robb fight a battle in the shadow of that keep,' Catelyn admitted." sure, that wasn't enough to save robb, but he did not die from the curse of harrenhal. that doom was meant for his enemies from tywin lannister to roose bolton.

Are there any rare/noncanon ships you like in Asoiaf beside the ones in F&B?

I think pretty much everything I ship in asoiaf is rare/noncanon 😅

I'm a multi-shipper so there are so many characters I ship together. it really depends on the vibe if I'm bring honest

I love Theon/Robb, they're the closest to "canon" since they grew up together, were besties etc. I love the angst and betrayal trope that comes with then and I'm a diehard for Robb Stark

Then there's Robb/Margaery + Robb/Daenerys which again comes with the vibes and the fact that I love all these characters seperatedly, so why not pair them together?

I also love Arya/Jon as a future possible ship when they're older. Their quotes hit hard and while I know many see them platonically I can't help but see the vision George originally had for them. I know he scrapped the idea but some crumbs are left there

and finally, the most incredibly rare one: Rhaenys/Jon/Aegon. Listen, i love throuple relationships and I'm always in support if there's one I can envision. And something about Elia's kids surviving and reuniting with their brother, or some AU where the rebellion ends differently and all 3 get to grow up together has me obsess over.

I also have a huge weakness for fem!Jon and I'd read her paired up with literally anyone as long as the writing is good.
