Genna Lannister ASOIAF as historical paintings (33/∞)
Genna: I am sorry for your loss. Jaime: I had a new hand made, of gold. Genna: Very nice. Will they make you a gold father too? Tywin was the loss I meant. Lady Genna claimed her stool with a look that dared any man there to question her presence. None did. —thoughts of Jaime Lannister [AFFC by GRRM]

I've been slowly obsessing more and more about asoiaf fashion in the past 6 month, and really developing in details how it would look in different regions, classes, etc (the North being the one I have the most complete picture on). And I wanted to put some of this to paper instead of endlessly turning it in my head before I go to sleep. Usually when I costume design it is confined to a specific character, I've never done like worldbuilding fashion design, but idk asoiaf really gets me going.
So here's the North ! I could have kept going and added more stuff, but if I try to spew all the shit that's in my head I'm never gonna finish this x) So I focused mostly on great houses/nobles fashion for this. Maybe I'll do a sheet for smallfolk or practical clothing like battle armour after I'm done with all the kindoms. I already have to continue the anti AI quest...

MY SHAYLAS OH MY SHAYLAS, it's so sick and twisted that the happiest and safest time of Danys life was also the beginning of the end for Viserys

Westeros fashion studies: The Vale
"The Vale of Arryn the Vale, or the kingdom of Mountain and Vale, is one of the constituent regions of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. It was formerly a sovereign nation ruled by the Kings of Mountain and Vale before Aegon's Conquest. The Mountains of the Moon surround the smaller Vale proper, although the valley's name is often applied to all of House Arryn's realm.
The Vale is ruled by the Arryns from the castle known as the Eyrie. Notable houses of this region include, Corbray, Redfort and Waynwood.
Bastards of noble origin raised in the Vale are given the surname Stone."

Bethany Bracken, prior to her execution
"I found her in such lamentation and heaviness as I never saw no creature, so that it would have pitied any man's heart to have looked upon her."
i hath returned from my faraway travels, to post once more...
anyways yeah drew bethany in a slightly diff style than usual! even if shes an awoiaf footnote i am obsessed with her partially bc she is so obviously inspired by catherine howard (my forever fave of henry viii's wives). so yes hope u all enjoy my cornplate fanart. also justice for bracken women!

A Song of Ice and Fashion- the Arryns pt 1.

I was heavily inspired by the tudors, heavy velvets and the large bird like wings. The Eyrie gets very cold so I gave them heavy fabrics, more coverage, and more layers.

Larra Rogare, the Lady of Lys and wife of Viserys II Targaryen
"I could sometimes make the lady laugh, though she did not understand more than a few words of our tongue, but the Shadow's playing always made her weep, and strange to say she liked that better." - Mushroom
It is done! It took me far too long to complete the piece, but my interpretation of Larra is done! The piece is inspired by Parmigianino's Antea, otherwise known as Portrait of a Young Woman.
Tumblr media
I was particularly interested in using Parmigianino's piece in my own headcanons of the Free Cities, which I believe GRRM took some inspiration from the city-states of Italy in the early(ish) Renaissance period, independent but still 'successors of Rome' kind of deal, just as the Free Cities are somewhat legacies of Old Valyria. Therefore, I decided to draw Larra with fashion similar to the city-states of Italy (with some fantasy flair). Perhaps a bit strange to Westerosi eyes, but still lavish and refined, which the elite families of Lys are known for. They are proud of their Valyrian heritage as evidenced by their emphasis on the purity of blood, but their fashion would have evolved in a different direction post-Doom, especially given international trade's influence on Lys.
And I couldn't resist drawing Larra in a rich purple, it is just perfect for her! While we know a little about Larra, I have always been interested in her sense of independent self as wife, mother, sister, worshipper, and Lyseni, which could not conform to Westerosi society. And you know what, pop off queen, I support you. <3

"The dream was clearer than a memory"
Signs and portents
"Lord Aenar's maiden daughter Daenys, known forever afterward as Daenys the Dreamer, had foreseen the destruction of Valyria by fire. And when the Doom came twelve years later, the Targaryens were the only dragonlords to survive."
Daenys, the dreamer and her dream! I've spent quite some time at this, and I dropped it for no reason, and now it's finally here! (It was meant to be accompanied by a F&B re-read, but that'll arrive eventually) And I hate drawing buildings so much, so I hope it was worth it!
Also, please click to see the details! (the quality sucks as always)
