aziraphale constantly expresses his admiration and adoration for crowley by telling him he's nice, and good, and thanks him for what he does for him, calls him all the time to tell him things, "our car" and "our bookshop". and then dear, sweet crowley, who cannot go a single minute without doing something for aziraphale, driving him around everywhere, looking after and tidying the bookshop, indulging him in his earthly pleasures and quaint little hobbies, saving him even when he doesn't necessarily ask to be saved, "little demonic miracle of my own" and "alright, I'll do that one, my treat."
their methods of communicating their - friendship, affection, love - are set.
let's look at the bandstand, where crowley offers to magic them away, away from earth and the loom of armageddon, and aziraphale retaliates with stating that they're not friends and he's doesn't even like him. let's look at the So Did I argument, where crowley offers to whisk gabriel away and dump him on the moors so aziraphale doesnt have to deal with it and is no longer under threat from the former archangel, and aziraphale practically begs crowley to stay, that he'd "love [him] to help [him]".
their methods of communicating their - friendship, affection, love - are being rejected; they're not working.
let's look at 1967, where aziraphale gives in to giving crowley the holy water, but refuses the lift to anywhere he wants to go, and crowley offers to thank aziraphale, but refuses to hear aziraphale's verbal concerns about the danger it poses to him, "you told me what you think - 105 years ago." let's look at the final fifteen, where aziraphale offers to restore crowley to what he thinks crowley has always been yearning for, and crowley tries to tell aziraphale exactly what he means to him, put it into words what he hopes aziraphale will see through and understand.
their methods of communicating their - friendship, affection, love - are swapped, and break them apart altogether.
swapping those methods, in a guesswork effort to reach the other person better, isn't the answer. the action, and what is being said, is what needs to change. crowley offers things that aziraphale doesn't want, or goes against who he is fundamentally, and aziraphale says things that wound crowley deeply, reducing what they are to nothing in a few sharp words. so instead crowley tries to use words, and aziraphale tries to offer an act of devotion; but this doesn't work either - arguably, it's worse!
what they communicate needs to be clearer, not how. crowley needs to stay with aziraphale when he promises that he will, and not attempt to solve problems by running from what he doesn't want to face, threatening to abandon him in the process. aziraphale needs to express outright, plainly, what crowley needs to hear; that exactly as he is, everything that he is, is everything that aziraphale wants and respects and loves. and to be able to do that, they need start by giving each other the respect of acknowledging their respective boundaries, their fears, and what principles are important to them.
they've had their methods right all along, but what they're currently saying with them doesn't make sense. it's the french all over again; the words can be translated, "but you understood me!", but that doesn't mean that it makes any sense.

Additional note on Tyrian: it's always intrigued me just how much Robyn seems to piss him off. His being upset at her helping resolve the Mantle crisis (however temporarily) wasn't just frustration at the plot being foiled. "Bringing hope and a smile wherever you go. I find it... upsetting." He's such a death-cultist for Salem that actual hopepunk seems to be anathema to him.
Good addition there, yea!
I kind of initially thought he might just be playing it up but like, Tyrian's entire thing is both "playing it up" while also being entirely genuine. He's the villain in her story and she the hero, he's leaning into it. Especially as yeah, everything she represent is anathema to what he feels Salem represents and undermines her goals merely by existing.
Robyn: Oh wow, so I am like, heretical to you? Tyrian: Intensely!

Let me scream this, fanfic is the only form of literature that is divorced from capitalism
oh how i wish this were true 馃槚 i literally JUST wrote about the politicisation and capitalisation of fanfiction for an essay comp with my uni (i won :3) and UGH.
theoretically? yes! and being separate from capitalism is so important,,, not just for fanfiction but for literature as a whole? to be separate from this idea of profit, of your voice and ideas being profitable and marketable, of having to fit into a predetermined box for your voice and experience and words to be heard? capitalism ruins literature. it ruins freedom of voice when we see the demographic of those getting published (and like,,, that historically) but also it limits creativity and ideas when your focus is now on what's marketable and what's trending, and we go through waves of the same tropes/story being told over and over and over again until the next big trend hits. capitalism prohibits creativity. and theoretically,,, fanfiction is devoid from that, right? because we aren't profiting from it, we aren't buying it, and theoretically everyone's voice holds the same power and we aren't restrained by what's marketable and who's louder.
BUT realistically:
i mean obviously the first point - people selling binds. instantly bringing capitalism into fandom. fanfiction becomes capitalised on a monetary level.
but money isn't everything here i think! i think we have ideals in fanfiction/fandom that aren't necessarily about profit, but still uphold capitalist values.
especially over on tiktok, we see the same ideals through followers, likes, 'influencers'. we see it when cosplayers call themselves actors and want to use fanfilms for portfolios, we see it when fanfilms ask for money *before* content, which goes against the whole "fandom content is shared with you, not made for you" ideal, we see it when people start gatekeeping their ideas rather than sharing like we used to, etc etc - ideals of capitalism infiltrating. we start developing this hierachy of those at the "top" with more influence and more power and whose ideas we follow more, and those at the "bottom" start becoming more like consumers than enjoyers. fanfiction - and in turn, fandom as a whole - becomes a market. (and we see the same concept with hits and kudos on fanfics and how this determines what ones people think are worth reading)
we see it when people start criticising fics - again, not monetary but rather the same ideals - and determining which voices and which experiences can be heard, whilst the others are pushed aside. "no you can't write about this because i think it should be done this way and xyz and therefore your voice is irrelevant and we're going to cancel your fic online". people start determining whose voice can be heard and what the "right way" to do something is, the exact way they do in tradlit which is obviously dependent on capitalism now (which is a big part of why there's been a rise in selfpub recently)
we see it in the puritanical view people take towards fandom and characters - in the way certain ideals are restricted as being "too immoral" to write about and we end up, again, cancelling people (see here: period typical misogyny = the author being misogynistic and thus getting cancelled??) - we start, again, determining right and wrong ways of doing things and turn this sharing of ideas for fun from a hobby based mindset to more of a "i am a consumer and i am unhappy with the product i have received" type of mindset, which then leads to people making their ideas and works more "marketable" to the "consumer", and suddenly these capitalist values have changed the very way we produce content. are we doing X this way because we want to, or because people will get mad at us if we do Y?
we see SO many capitalist ideals in fandom that even if binds weren't being sold and fanfilms weren't taking extortionate amounts of money,,,, i still wouldn't say fanfiction is divorced from capitalism. i'd say we definitely have signs of the hierarchy, the restriction, the consumer x producer dynamic, and i'd argue that likes/followers/"the next big fic" etc etc are all signs of how fanfiction is infact not divorced from capitalism.
BUT!! my final point is that:
as a concept, absolutely it is! and in most instances, yes. fanfiction is divorced from capitalism - fanDOM is where it gets a bit trickier. but i think the big transition from more anonymous and communal ideas of fanfiction to a more interactive social media based one (esp platforms with high traction like tiktok) has meant that a lot of capitalist values (which are prevalent on SM in general) start infiltrating fandom so naturally because it's what we're used to! we're so used to the traction and the power and the hierarchy and the cancelling etc etc that we don't even notice it really. but fanfiction starts becoming more mainstream, people want traction, they evaluate the "market" and determine the best way to go about "selling" their fic, jump on the more "profitable" trends, etc etc etc. capitalism. hinderance of individual exploration and expression to appease the masses.
so theoretically and ideally? yes, fanfiction is divorced from capitalism. but realistically and in practice? no, because fanDOM isn't, and it affects fanFICTION

well tell me about gerard keay then
oh boy i am SO GLAD YOU ASKED
okay so the podcast he's in is called the magnus archives, in the most basic terms it's a podcast with spooky little stories every episode that all fit together to build the world and story, and a big part of that is the fact that all fear is from these 14 weird entities, literally called the fears
now gerard (gerry) keay serves as a big exposition dump for the main character about these fears, like a good chunk of the information we know about them comes from his episode
but THATS NOT WHY I LOVE HIM i love him for completely separate reasons which are the fact he's a 30-something evil book burning goth with canonically shitty dyed hair and eyes tattooed on all his joints (eyes are a really big imagery thing) and his backstory is tragic and i just want to squeeze him like a stress ball about it
extra tidbits about him: he's a painter and it's one of the first things we learn about him, he has killed a man, he has punched a fake brick wall and made it collapse, he's dead and stuck in a book (rip), and the most popular ship he's in is with a character he might have not even canonically met

Waiter: What will you be having today?
May M: Oh, just a salad.
Despite being in the Phyla Carnivora, Giant Pandas are Folivores - Herbivore that specialize in Leaf eating, Bamboo leaves being 90% of their diet, with the other one percent being Shoots, Tubers, And Smaller rodents or Carrion.
~~~~~
Robyn: I'll be having The Champion's Meal, and we'll also have Honey toast, Scrambled Eggs, Fish Fry and the Fruit Platter.
Waiter: Is that All?
Robyn: Yep! thank you!
Waiter: I'll be back then! *They Leave*
Robyn: ... You need to eat Actual food May.
May: *Embarrassed* I know ...
In Captivity Giant Pandas are also fed additional items, such as Honey, Eggs, Fish, Yams, Bananas, Oranges, Shrub Leaves, and other Specially Prepared Food
~~~~~
Shark!Jaune: Okay! Ready?
Gator!Yang: Hold on, I think SOmeone's joinming us
May: Hello! Is this the Basal Faunus Meeting?
Jaune: Yep! It's nice to see you again Ms. Marigold!
Giant Pandas are a Basal Species in the family Ursidae - This Means they are they least Changed from their Common ancestor to other Bears. Surprisingly.
~~~~~
Fiona: thanks for watching My Nieces may- Where's The other one?
May: The other one?
Robyn: She's right here!
May: There were Two?!?!
At one point there was a Giant Panda that gave birth to Twins, which was a cause for Celebration. Unfortunately, in order to unsure the Mother would pay attention to each Cub equally, one was often swapped out for the other. Otherwise, only the stronger/bigger one would've survived.
~~~~~
May M: Hello.
May Z: Uhm .... Hi?
The prefix "Giant" Panda was given to keep them from being confused with Red Pandas, which are mustelids, more closely related to Raccoons.
