Loved the character analysis post! On the topic of self control, how well do ur fav characters handle the impulse to purchase lil doodads near checkout?

Hws England: Arthur has no problem spending money; if he wants something, he’ll just buy it. I've kinda mentioned this before, but Arthur likes his knickknacks. He'll usually come back with, at least one, pointless souvenir whenever there's a world meeting (his fridge is covered in magnets). Basically, he does not handle the impulse well lol.

Hws America: Alfred usually just gets him groceries delivered so is rarely presented with the impulse. However, when it comes to teleshopping he buys all kinds of rubbish (pretty sure that's canon). It is easy to sell something to Alfred but it's rare that something will catch his eye on its own. Though if he does spot something he wants, he'll buy it so he's not great at handling the impulse either.

Hws Japan: Kiku is similar to Alfred, he primarily shops online and rarely does so in person. He's also prone to buying things because they look or do something cool. Though he has more self-restraint when buying things and tends to weigh up if they're actually worth it. He's more likely to leave something and then come back for it later if/when the impulse doesn't go away. So I think he handles the impulse well.

Hws Prussia: Gilbert… It really depends. On his own, he's not buying anything he didn't set out to buy, he doesn't even look at anything else. With other people however, he's terrible. Buy's whatever catches his eye, usually cheap rubbish that he can annoy people with and he'll gift it to that person so that he doesn't have to clutter his house with it. Overall though he's great at handling the impulse, unless he needs it he won't buy it.

Hws Germany: Ludwig cannot make a purely impulsive decision. All of the appliances he owns has been thoroughly researched beforehand. This man is a prime example of impulse control.

(iirc her father was a close friend of the former king and from a noble house, apparently he was the Master at arms of Ludwig and Gilbert ? Like, Berengeria and Travis are actually high nobles of Drakengard ?)

Gilbert has Ludwig but they’re still very much brothers, not parent/child. Does that change the dynamic? What about, say, Mexico? She doesn’t have kids but family is massively important to her culture. Then you got ones who act like actual children more often than not—USA or Australia would be my first thought.

!!! Hello you, I haven't seen you in an inbox in a while <3. So I've got a question in the box about this for the young Anglos going to focus on Gilbert, Ludwig and Maria.

Gilbert, before 1918 takes a rather heavy-handed approach to his citizens in many contexts. I have varied wildly with whether Ludwig calls him his brother or Papa throughout my time in this pit. But is it a very paternal relationship in general? Being raised in a militaristic order with the hierarchy of the church and then later becoming what's essentially an army that just happens to be attached to a state made him a man who tries very hard to be both strict and fair. The Prussian education system was the finest in the world for much of the 19th century, with the larger German-speaking world leading the way in medicine, education, chemistry and several other fields. He wants to see his people thrive. He has a certain callousness regarding the lives of men; war is, after all, the endless meatgrinder, and it is what he's best at. But with his women and children, that relationship also exists. Obedience, discipline and loyalty from them correspond to Gilbert's devotion, even-handedness and sense of duty in return.

Ludwig for much of his history in the structure of the Prussian-dominated German Empire, where Gilbert filled the role of pater familas, soldier and usually had the final say; Ludwig filled that more domestic, civilian counterpart. He was and still is very young. He loves trains, he loves cars, he wants all the engineering advancements and is keenly interested in them and their practical applications of improving the quality of life for his people. In addition, he has always been very awkward in artistic spaces (baby gay didn't know why the fuck he liked men's butts so much yet) but is still very interested in the artistic developments of his people. Especially musically. I've always thought of adult Ludwig as having a very pleasant baritone singing voice and a very clear crystalline one as a child. Maria, in my view, doesn't view herself as much of a maternal figure in the lives of her people. As semi-magical, semi-immortal creatures, they have that slightly uncanny effect. In some nations, people are just comfortable handing their children over to be held. She's one of those. She'll hold babies a bit awkwardly, but she loves them. And due to what she is, people don't comment on her singleness or her lack of an immediate family in Mexico itself. She feels most herself amongst them and usually passes among them without any problem. On the Day of the Dead, she's just another daughter putting flowers on her mother's grave. When the population takes to the streets, she's another protestor in the streets. She speaks Nahuatl She shops and eats in the markets. She has Valencia and Navelina orange trees in her yard. She doesn't mind the local children plucking their share from the branches. She lives and works and loves amongst her people.

I’d bring my baby Gilbert cornflowers, red roses, and gardenias, because they have meaning to his personality. And I may thrown in the mix some white daffodils. And the mixture of a very intense but romantic combination, a powerful love that never would dim.

For Ludwig, I feel that white roses and lily of the valley. And I say lily of the valley because it’s sentimental to me, and for me it represents my first love in Hetalia, which is Ludwig, and Lillies of many kinds are my favorites~ red carnations I would mix in there and yellow tulips as well~ it would be a rather colorful but pretty bouquet.💐

And for my lovely Elizabeta, pink tulips because they are of her country, but I would also have some white violets and light colored orchids, a beautiful and flowing feminine bouquet, perfect for young lady sweethearts to receive from their female lover~ it is also a very romantic and playful flower bouquet, full of pretty and lively colors. 💐

- This man struggles to settle down in a committed relationship, preferring flings and quick one-night stands. It's not because he's against it, but rather he thinks it's hard to find someone to accommodate his… specific tastes in the bedroom; plus he's so busy he can't imagine fitting a partner into his life. But once he has a partner, he is SO committed. Like planning-your-one-year-anniversary-getaway-a-month-into-the-relationship kind of committed. He tries not to go overboard with it, but he does enjoy thinking about hitting these milestones.

- Ironically he ends up getting in relationship with friends, his coworkers, people he spends the most time around with, most likely in a work setting. He’s a stickler for the rules though, which makes him hesitant to blur the boundaries between work and his personal life. However, once he starts really noticing this person--maybe the way they're always dressed nice, or hardworking, or always has a smile for him--he's fucked. They invade his thoughts at the most random moments, and it makes him want to avoid them. Thankfully he has friends (cough Italy cough) who notice his little crush and persuade him to do something about it.

- Please don’t even mention wanting to get fit to this man. He goes overboard, devising a workout plan, a nutrition regimen, etc. He can be a bit draconic with it too, wanting to push you to be your best.

- While he's not the most emotionally available partner, he is the most reliable. If you complain that your heater not working, he's fixed it by the next day. If you're nervous about approaching your boss about an issue, he suggests you practice with him. If you're sick, he's getting you all the Vitamin C packets, soup, and tissues he can find, stocking you up with them before leaving for work.

-He's rather touch-starved, so he appreciates a partner who is more tactile. He loves when they hug him from behind, or let him rest his head on their lap and card their fingers through his hair. It's the one moment where he doesn't feel like he has to be quite so uptight.

- He is so the type to be in a friends with benefits situation. He's pretty clueless about romance. 💀 Or not clueless, but... willfully ignorant. He’s more likely to fall into a relationship by being buddies with someone, then sleeping with them, and a few months in realizing oh shit. He actually really likes them. Like more than as a bro.

- Gilbert is nothing if not crafty, so he wants to figure out what you think of him first. He asks around--your friends, other nations, etc. If you ever talk about him, if they know if you're dating someone else, etc. It's so funny because it's painfully obvious to everyone else that he has a thing for you. In fact, Gilbert is possibly the last person to realize you two are a thing...

- He is actually very easy to please. Just praise him. He’s used to hyping himself up to make sure no one forget him. It means the world when someone genuinely thinks he’s great or awesome. A sure fire way to get him emotional is if you cancel plans with your friends to hang out with him. Of course he’s old and he wants you to go have fun! To live a little. But saying that he’s exactly your kind of fun is enough to have him getting a misty-eyed before hurriedly saying that it’s allergies or something.

- He's a very fun boyfriend. He's never quite let go of his childish side. He is very much the type to make pillow forts with you and/or play co-op with you video games. For movie nights, he enjoys picking movies that he thinks will scare you so you'll end up clinging to him, asking him to protect you. The reality is, if anything he is the one getting more disturbed by the kinds of movies they put out nowadays, more than you do. 💀

- In public, he's definitely walking around with an arm around your shoulder. He's just so excited that everyone will know he has such a smoking hot partner.

-You know what, Gilbert is surprisingly good at comforting you. Part of it is experience, but if you're upset, he's not letting it go. He'll keep pestering you to open up to him. And when you finally do, he'll hug you to him, stroking your hair and calling you affectionate nicknames while reassuring you that as your great boyfriend, he'll certainly deal with any of your problems...

- He composes songs about you. He can get quite in a tizzy due to his perfectionist streak, appearing visibly agitated if the song isn’t going exactly how he wants it to.

- He is a strong believer in having dinner together if you’re living together! he thinks it’s a good habit to get into.

- Roderich is actually quite sweet. He sends you good morning and good night texts, and always texts you throughout the day on your lunch breaks, etc., asking how certain appointments or events went in your life.

- Roderich is a fan of appearances, and he is definitely getting you several high-quality Swarovski gifts. It doesn't matter that he's secretly a cheapskate who patches holes in his underwear--he wants you to only have the finest.

- Do you know those people who flirt via critiquing you? That's Roderich. With you, he's never actually cruel though.

-He is the perfect gentleman when dating you. Always pulling out the chair for you, paying for you, etc.

- When he gets drunk, he’s actually kind of a sloppy drunk. He never really gets drunk though; he can hold his beers. He also tends to be the one to keep things together if you get too tipsy. He wants to ensure he can take care of you.

- He is very impartial, so if you want an honest opinion he’ll give it to you. Even if you’re his partner, he will call you out on your behavior as a neutral third-party💀 In his opinion it’s more important for you to grow than for him to coddle you.

- He has such a hard time with letting people know you’re dating. He doesn’t like other people getting in his business; he prefers his privacy. At first, he refers to you as a business partner, then as Lily’s friend, and then as his friend… and then eventually, when he sees another nation flirting with you, he decides it’s time to make it clear you’re taken for, and wraps a protective arm around your waist.

- The biggest indicator of whether you two will last in a relationship is if you get along with Lily and treat her like your own little sister. If not, Vash doesn’t see this relationship progressing and will cut things off.

different anon but RE: that ask about the pruita/gerita dynamics and their body language. you're so good with drawing subtle expressions and body language that i did manage to catch onto the intended meaning. your skill in expressing their characterization is actually insane. the way that feli has his face obscured/partially obscured in some of drawings or just doesn't look all that happy. the way gilbert always looks smug, like he's toying with feli, or even creepy perhaps. he always either has his hands on feli, almost looking like he's pulling him around like a puppet. or when he doesn't, like that one drawing of him with his hands behind his back, it all looks like it's just a show. unlike ludwig who holds a lot of tension in his shoulders, gilbert is relaxed and confident. he looks like he knows he's got feli under his thumb. i love unhealthy relationships like this when theyre not necessarily good people. adds a lot of depth and intrigue to the relationship, especially when i don't see this being done a lot in pruita. don't get me started on the tensions between ludwig and gil, and how ludwig is both 1. correct about gilbert not deserving feli and 2. incorrect in that this thought is fueled by his jealousy. overall very high quality work and amazing attention to detail with these characters.

Holy shit anon yes!! YES!! English is not my first language so it's hard for me to explain their dynamics, but you got it. You put it into words!!

He has his hands on Feli as a way to establish his presence and authority. "I am here", "I can do whatever I want", and "I can make you do whatever I want".

When he keeps his hands to himself, it's a way to push Feli to initiate things. So Feli can convince himself that he wants to do whatever that is.

You don't see it being done a lot in pruita because the base ship itself is wholesome.

Ludwig holds a lot more tension on his shoulders because he's actually fighting on the front line.

Gilbert is a proud Prussian. I want him to lean hard into the Prussian virtues—militaristic, blind obedience to commands. Though at the end that proudness will be the end of him.

I REALLY didn't expect anyone to look deep into my drawings, their body language and expression and everything, then speculate their dynamics/behavior correctly! It's just insane to me!!
