Animal Crossing: New Horizons | Character Creator Chat
[Previous Post]āāāāāāāāāāāāāā[First Post]āāāāāāāāāāāāāā[Next Post] It's been a long and tough week, so I don't think I'll have the energy for the weekly style savvy post. But hopefully you enjoy this instead. Welcome back to CCC, (Formerly Character Creator Critique) where I just kinda yap a bit while working through a character creator.
Here's a new entry in my 'Character Creator Critique' Series Where I live-blog working through the creator in various games. So I have played this game and created a character previously. However, that was about a year ago, and I don't remember much, So let's start fresh, new character new island!
So the game starts out asking for your same and birthday. And I must say, I really love the UI in this game, the color/textures, really make it look just so inviting! Next you get to start making your character,
I have noticed that some more recent Nintendo games, (like splatoon) Have done away with specific gender labels, and they don't use any cryptic working like "Body Type A", I think this is nice, you just choose how you want to look. As soon as you select your style, you'll be randomly assigned one of the staring outfits, here's a few that I saw when restarting the game a few times:
Next up is skin tone:
(Your starting outfit is picked at random, when you reach this point) And, I think they offer a good selection, it may not be the most realistic, but I think they cover a good range, without breaking the game's art style. Next, you can pick one of the starting hairstyles:
Honestly, I find this a little disappointing. Yes, I'm aware you can get more later, But only four starting options tailored towards each gender feels slim There's not much in the way of variety, especially considering you'll probably be stuck with this look for a few real-time days or weeks. I do like the hair color options though! That shade of orange, and the pale yellow options are nice lesser seen presets. Next is Eyes:
They have a TON f options for these, it looks like the options even span a few different art styles, as I recognize some from the Gamecube entry. Some can look a little odd, in the modern art style, But I feel they all fit well enough that you could get used to them with time, and it means you could probably care over your (basic) look from previous games. I could have gone for a few more eye colors, maybe a brighter blue, or something that offers a warmer brown color, but I think the selection sticks to the AC color pallet well enough Next up, nose & mouth in one combined screen:
And wow, that's... pretty sparse. I get that eyes are important, But it feels like there are more eye options than hair, skin, nose and mouth combined! I kinda wish the nose color adjusted with the skin tone, it looks a little 'clown like'. imo. Also, what's with the mouth choices, Smile, and slightly wider smile take up half the choices. oh well, I like 'option 3', it seems like a a happier version of the standard neutral face. Next is makeup options:
And I did not expect much from this, but I'm surprised they only offer two blush colors. Neither option or color really shows super up well on darker skin in my opinion, so I'll go without. So here's the final product:
Yeah, Animal Crossing does not really cater towards the 'Rock' look, But I think it's a decent enough reimagining. (Why do I always do these comparisons at the end, lol) They then ask more details about where you live, so seasons will work properly, (it's just for norther vs Southern Hemisphere)
Next You get to pick your starting island shape:
And you're asked a question to decide your starting items:
And now we've made it to the island!
My starting villagers were Muffy and Sampson:
If you're unhappy with your starting outfit, villagers, or your island's starting fruit, you can just close the game and try again. And I think the randomness for how your island starts is pretty cool, But I really think, the starting outfit could be something we choose, Even if they only give us a few randomly generated choices, or just let us pick a favorite color. But it's not a huge deal.
My starting island had apples, (same as my main island) so I restarted the game a few times, and eventually found a good mix. Peaches and the sailor style shirt. (and villagers 'Reneigh' and 'Rowan' --- ...And in retrospect... maybe I should have waited a while before making this post. This probably came off as fairy negative, as I was just picking on the lack of options this game starts with. That was not my intention, I've missed most the AC entries, but I know the character builder as still come a LONG way. (Especially from the 'quiz based' character creator on GameCube)
But regardless, I feel this serves as a decent "Part 1" coverage of this game. If I stick with the game I'll come back for a "Part 2" when I've unlocked more stuff. I've always though animal crossing was "neat", But the linear progression the ānook milesā system offers, may be enough to keep me interested for longer. I dropped the game previously because I found it a little confusing how to unlock stuff, but after watching a few youtube video to get me started, I'm ready to give the game a second chance! -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next CCC: Fashion Dreamer Thanks for reading! I had a lot of fun making this, so I hope you had fun reading it as well!
As always, all comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome! (I'm also looking for feedback on this new style, how's the formatting)
You literally can't bother me, (unless you go out of your way to be a jerk), so post whatever you need to say!

Hornsby: Why do you have bat wings..? Are you cosplaying, schnozzle?
Remillia sighed. If thereĀ was anything that buggedĀ her more than the useless Fairy Maids and not gettingĀ her favorite red tea, it was being asked if sheās cosplaying.
Ā āNo, Iām not ācosplaying.ā Iām literally a vampire. Oh nooo, youāre gonna be afraid of me now, huh? Sigh. Whatever is a poor vampire like me to doā¦?ā

Okay, no joke, I want an animal crossing game where the villagers are rude as hell to you.
Yeah yeah, I know, the original gamecube game- I've played it. But I'm not talking about making animal crossing "the way it used to be" out of nostalgia, either. I mean I want an AC game- or a game inspired by AC- that acts as a sort of... rejection of some of the core tenets of animal crossing: new horizons.
At the surface level, New Horizons seemed like the perfect animal crossing game, at least it did when I watched the nintendo direct footage of it when it was first announced. All the QoL features I'd been wanting for ages, and with a lot of new options for customizing your town island. Great!
Now that the game has been out more than a year, there's definitely a lot of players who will tell you it's a "meh" entry into the animal crossing series. It's not terrible, but it falls short of a lot of things that made new leaf so enjoyable (and other games before it). But, as much as I could complain about what I don't like about New Horizons, that's not what this post is about- it's merely what gave me the perspective to really think about this...
New Horizons is sort of this game that fulfills an idyllic fantasy of an uninhabited island that you come to and decorate & reshape to your will. The villagers who move in are more like talking dolls than people with thoughts or opinions, and they'll do just about anything you tell them to without much of a gripe. It's a place where everyone and everything is happy, and you can just sit back and relax and enjoy your island just the way you built it.
To a lot of people reading this, that sounds great! It's a form of escape from the toils of the real world. And I agree, it's nice to have some sort of reprieve from this capitalist hellscape... But, animal crossing just isn't doing it for me these days.
For one thing, I don't like how disconnected it feels. The villagers have some fun/silly dialogue, sure, but the way they never have any concrete struggles, beyond like, a tummy ache... it just makes it all feel a bit hollow. And the way they won't even protest to you trying to redecorate their house, change what they wear, or even tell them to move someplace else entirely! It really adds to this feeling that these aren't real critters with real lives or hopes or dreams.
To some, that's OK, because it's all just a videogame anyway. But... I don't know. I just feel sort of wrong indulging in this fantasy where I found this "uninhabited" island and claimed it as my own, then tore up the rivers and cliffs and reshaped them how I liked. Where I can just tell my villager, hey, you need to move to the other side of the island because I want to make a garbage dump where your house is. And they're like, ok, sounds great! It just makes it all feel very dull and uninteresting to me.
Now, the type of game I'm asking for here- I'm not asking for some edgy animal crossing game where tom nook has to protect his nephews from redd with a gun in his hands and isabelle has depression and tortimer dies. Really, I just... want a game where this idea of the idyllic fantasy town where everyone is happy and does whatever you want is rejected outright. Like, no, actually, you can't just burst into my house uninvited, go away you idiot neighbor. No I'm not going to move my house I like the view of the rest of town from here. No you can't get me to change my outfit, I barely know you!!! And just because you handed me a fruit every day doesn't mean we're best friends!!! Just... Something, you know?
I guess maybe I just want to play stardew valley? is stardew valley like this??? I don't know. I've been playing animal crossing since I was like, 8 years old, and I'm bored of the formula. I just want a villager to call me a moron and hit me with a net or something. Payback for all the times i hit them with nets as a kid, you know.

any tips and tricks on how to not get bored of acnh? š
I think boredom is inevitable with video games but maybe especially in a game like Animal Crossing. There's only so much you can do gameplay wise despite the customization options. This isn't just New Horizons of course; my first memory of the franchise is when I played ac on GameCube and being bored a few hours in.
I've played every day since launch; sometimes a lot, sometimes just for a few minutes. I think what's kept me from being so bored that I take a break from the game is that I don't see my island as something that's ever finished but instead as something that changes constantly with the seasons or whenever I think of something that's like pretty or cool. Having that constant change keeps things interesting for me and means I have something new to look forward to every season. I also don't time travel ever, which fits my particular idea of what makes Animal Crossing fun though others might feel differently ā I think everyone needs to figure out what makes the game fun for them without thinking too much about discourse about the "correct" way of playing.
I also spend a lot of time following my villagers around or just vibe in a place that I find pretty. Animal Crossing has always been a great game to just relax and do nothing in, and when you're taking in scenery that you've built yourself it just feels wonderful. I think that's my goal with the game, to have a paradise of my own where everything's the way I want it
I don't know if my ramblings above helps you but it's my perspective on it. I think everyone plays and enjoys the game in different ways and you just have to find the right one for you. It's also fully understandable if the game never becomes truly fun ā it's not a game that has a lot of action and it has a lot of issues that can make it less appealing. Sometimes a game never sticks with you truly and that's always okay :)
(Sorry for the late reply, it was a very interesting and difficult question so I had to think it through a lot. Thank you so much for asking! š¼)

2, 4, and 5 for the animal crossing asks.
2. Do you play as yourself or a made up character?
Somewhere in the middle? I go by "Daemona" in the game but I do model my main appearance in New Horizons after myself (same eye color and whatever hair color I have at the moment- it's blue right now). Probably the self I want to be considering I'm doing better in the game than I am in real life.
4. Who were your first villagers?
When I started the Gamecube game as a kid, my first villagers were Ace, Sue E., Lulu, Spike, and Deena.
5. Preferable method of earning bells?
Selling things, mostly.

Who is your favorite NPC?
probably Tom Nook or KK Slider
Who is your all time favorite villager?
it's a tie between Bill and Tangy. they were both on my first island from the Gamecube game when I was a tiny little child so I'm very attached

Kombat Krew and Animal Crossing.
It should come as no surprise that Iāve been playing Animal Crossing a lot recently. Iāve got real life debt in terms of my student loans. And also, debt in the game too! What a life I have and what a world we live in. So, hereās a crossover that no one asked for. Kombat Krew reacting to it/ playing it with their S/O and what kind of villager theyād be!Ā I didnāt do everyone, mainly the ones that I think would/could play the game! AndĀ This is such a pure post. Wow. No warnings what so ever. But just because of length of post Iāve popped a cut in, just because itās a little long!
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Cassie Cage; Sheās reluctant to play it at first. When youāre both chatting about it and hyping it up, sheās sipping her smoothie raising an eyebrow. But because sheās a supportive partner, she will watch all the trailers in the hype run. She has to admit it does look cute. Sheāll buy you it and canāt help but keep peering up and watching as you run around your island, catching bugs and fish. Smiling at the occasional scream as you try and run from a tarantula. āSo, you owe the Racoon money? Wait, why are you paying for more extensions on your house?!ā Doesnāt understand till she finally bites the bullet and plays it when youāre not inā¦ within an hour sheās bought it and is playing it. Then itās on. You find her awake at 3 AM, sheās sat crossed legged on the sofa, playing it intently. Cute dates where you go out to a cafĆ© and local play. Visiting each otherās islands, planting flowers and taking cute aesthetic photos. Her house is full of bright colours and random assortments of bits and pieces she found cute. Johnny takes the piss out of you both. The fact youāre both sat next to each other on the sofa, playing the same game, and speaking gibberish. Cassie is also slightly competitive; she doesnāt know where she gets it from Johnny and Sonya. Ā So, itās no wonder that she wins the tourneys, does all of the events and completes the nook mile challenges efficiently.Ā
If she was a Villager: A squirrel. Kind of like Blaire. Normal personality.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Smoke (Tomas Vrbada): If ever there was a game that fit Smokes aesthetic and general vibe it would be Animal Crossing. How he got introduced to the series was that he was reading peacefully. Until your squeal of excitement disrupted him. Honestly, at first, he thought some shit had happened. Queue him evaporating and appearing mid living room. Only to see youāre happy because there was a leaked trailer for a game. His mouth starts out agape, as if questioning, why you would make such a noise over a game. That expression changes when he watches it with you. He loves it so muchā¦ is actually excited for the prospect of living a quiet life on his own Island. Pre-orders with you so you both can play it. Smoke also definitely owns a grey switch. He. Loves. This. Game. Stays up late with you playing it the first days itās released. His islands name will be something fantasy based. His character has great hair too. Loves planting flowers and tending your joint garden on his island. His house is so neat, and each room has a theme. Everything is in place and organised too. He loves also going to the museum with you and having a look at everything. He loves that thereās a museum. Heās pretty much the Lin Kuei Blathers at this point. And you guys can go on virtual dates to the museum and each otherās towns when heās away on a mission. Loves playing it whilst youāre both snuggled up in bed together. When he finds out that the different hemispheres have different bugs and fish, he begs Bi-Han and Kuai to get it. Because he wants to flesh that museum out! āSo, thereās this racoon that you have to pay your debt off too. But itās addictive and itās a great distractionā¦ā āTOMAS ITāS 3AM GO THE FUCK TO SLEEPā ā Bi-Han. If he was a villager: Thereās a hipster bear in it. So yeah. Heās a hipster bear, heās basically Beardo. If there were owl villagers, Iād have made him an owl! Smug personality on AC is more polite, gentleman like, so itās actually not a bad personality.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Kabal: Heās sure he should be doing work right now. But who gives a fuck when he needs to tend to his garden. Virtual chibi Kabal is living his best life right now. Not having to put up with Kano. His boots are on his desk whilst he plays. He honestly remembers playing the original on GameCube. A friend from school had it and he wanted it so badly, but his mom could never afford it. But now heās an adult, he can literally buy whatever the fuck he wants. When he finds out you love the series too, he cannot help but smile. He tries to let on that heās not obsessed, but he is. He preloads it and keeps checking to see if you can play it. Queue him staying up till midnight and waking you up to let you know itās on. By the time you get up properly heās filling out the museum, has paid off his first loan and is ready for more. He loves playing it with you, will be a bit of a dick at times, and will totally hit you with net or snipe the bug youāre trying to get. Only for him to gift you it. Heās strategically planned this hit. Heās chosen the Southern Hemisphere and has got oranges. He needs everything. Itās cute how obsessed he is with it. When heās away, he loves playing it with you, visiting each otherās towns, leaving cute notes on the Notice Board and sending letters. Virtual you and him are so cute. āHey Kabal, what you playinā?ā āNone of your fucking business.ā Ā
If he was a villager: Definitely an Alligator. Just going off the fact he has a tooth. Iām going with Jock personality. Just because heās a hyper up and can be intense at times. So probably like Sly.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Frost: She like Cassie pretends not to care about it. Who has time for games? She sure as hell doesnātā¦ even though it does look cute, and she does miss having a garden. She finds it therapeutic. Not that the temple has a garden because ahaha itās fucking freezing and always snowing. Frost is literally acts like an ice sculpture, hard and frozen inside and out. In reality, sheās more like a snowman. Soft and squishy. She does have a soft spot for the gameā¦ especially when she watches you planting flowers and making a little garden. If you have a full switch and can create multiple characters, she may get a little emotional that you made her and made her a little garden. Okay. Maybe sheāll play it for a few minutesā¦ *Four hours later* Sheās giggling wildly as she catches bugs and plants and waters more flowers. At first, sheās content with just playing the character you made herā¦ but then she finds out from Cassie you can play together. And thatās it. She wants to do cute couple shit on it. Buys the game and surprises you when she sits next to you and reluctantly asks what to call her Island. Youāll both lay next to each other playing it together. Sheās hyper competitive as well, so she ends up doing all of the tourneys and winning. As well as helping you out if youāre struggling with a certain part. Ā If she was a Villager: Sheās definitely a cat villager. Probably like Katt, quirky looking and a bit mean looking. But on the inside really caring and sweet.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Kuai Liang (Sub Zero): Why is he playing this again? You said you had a great distraction in mind for him. What he did not expect was for him to be sat on your sofa on a rainy day. Holding you switch and staring from it to the TV in mild confusement. He knew that a new game had come out and it had, in a word, consumed every fibre of your being for the past few days. He loved how happy it made you and would often smile fondly watching you play itā¦ but he didnāt expect himself to be playing it. You made him, pretty accurately, on the game and heās kind of impressed. You do have to walk him through it, because him and technology do not mix. He does get the hang of it and he has the patience of a saint and the accuracy of a pro angler when it comes to catching fish. Youāre pretty damn impressed. He hates to admit how much he loves the game. And itās kind of cute that youāre sort of playing it together. He may round the corner a few times when youāre playing to ask if youāre advancing the island, because he knows he canāt do itā¦ and he would like to visit the museum and add to it. Secretly loves it. Not enough for him to actually play it himself, but he does find himself playing it in a morning before you wake up. Donāt tell Smoke or Bi-Han he wonāt hear the end of it. āI donāt have time for pop cultureā BULLSHIT KUAI!
If he was a villager: A Penguin. fucking fight, me on this. Heād probably look like Roald but with a smug personality. Remember Smug is good in this game, I know mind fuck.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Bi-Han: Okay so the colours hurt his head. They are so bright. Why is that eagle wearing a blazer? What the fuck is going on. If you thought Kuai was confused Bi-Han is next level confusedā¦ but he also wants a go. He really wants to play it. He likes to get involved with what you like, and if playing this Mutli-coloured game about living on an island makes you happy, then so be it! Will start off with a character on your save. Before progressing to him eventually getting it himself and āborrowingā the hidden Switch that Smoke has. The one he hides at the bottom of his sock draw, next to his diary, to the left of embarrassing photos of him. Youāll find him playing in between meditation and training. He secretly loves it. He gets a system going and soon has overtaken you on it. Invites you around to show off his pad. Which is a mess, just like his actual room. But itās got the Bi-Han charm. Totally moves his house to a ledge so no one can visit him. Will play it secretly, pretending to be busy but actually just vibing on a tree stump catching bugs. He loves visiting your island. Heāll change your flowers around, and plant fruit trees for you. Heāll also leave you small presents in your house. He gets into it, but he just likes been able to share a bit of your world. He didnāt have videogames growing up, so itās nice to finally be exposed to a bit of pop culture.
If he was a villager: Heād be a bear with a jock personality. Would probably look something similar to either Curt or Groucho.
Ā·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Jacqui: Sheās excited to play this. She remembers playing it when she was younger. Confused the fuck out of her dad. They had a real farm, but she wanted to virtually take care of her plants and trees. Confused him. But when she finds out you love the game too, sheās over the fucking moon. Sheās got Cassie to play it with her, but the fact you, her darling S/O love it too makes her so happy! Sheās had the same aesthetic and favourite villagers since she was a kid. But she loves all the villagers, she thinks there all quirky and cute in there own way! Her Island is also so organised. She also saved your butt a few times, catching the tarantulas as you ran around madly trying to avoid them. She event split the profit from her trip to tarantula island with you! Ā Iāve always had the HC that Jacqui is artistic, so she makes cute custom designs that look 110% amazing. And has totally made you both matching outfits to wear and take cute photos with. She tried her hardest to make her house into your shared apartment, and to be fair, she did a really great job at it! You and her both lay on the sofa playing it together, laughing and chilling together over takeaway, with a comfy movie on in the background. She loves that you can share this interest and that you can still virtually be together when sheās far away. Will send you letters in game too when sheās away. With stuff sheās picked up and thinks youāll like or will ok cute in her house. She owns all the shell stuff because itās so pretty and costal looking. Her house is totally near the beach. Sheās always secretly wanted to live near the coast. Jax canāt get his head around that your in her game, and sheās in yours.
If she was a villager: Iād say a wolf villager. Kind of like Audie whoās really peppy and happy go-lucky. Most of her intros are upbeat and can-do attitude like! So, I think it matches her personality really well!

how are you liking acnh so far, compared to acnl and acww? i still feel like acnl is the best, the villagers in acnh say the same 2 things over and over...
Iām really liking it, in general! I find the dialog cute for the most part, but Iāve gone out of my way to not spam-talk my villagers to try to make the moment where Iāve heard everything farther away. The main dialog issue I have is that I donāt like how they ask about my side characters so much, and the amount that they talk about upcoming events is excessive.
As far as other things, Iād love for Tortimer Island/minigames to come back, Iād love a big furniture patch to add in more variety (why give us an ice column but not the classic ones from past games? etc.), and my #1 wish is more custom design slots. Townbuilding is one of the things I find really fun and rewarding about AC, and this game is so beautiful and fun to work on in that way (and more challenging). And thereās enough of the charming stuff to keep me playing and invested in non-design elements, too :) But I feel you that every AC game kind of has its strengths and weaknesses, like I do feel itās hard to beat the GameCube/Wild World dialog, and New Leaf had so many cute little things that we had to wait (or are still waiting) to be added, etc. Thanks for asking, I hope you have a good one! ^^

Old things post number three! This time, another piece of tech from a family friend!
3 - Nintendo Gamecube
(Pardon my reflection in the last one, it's really shiny)
Now, this one doesn't have a name, but I would consider taking suggestions. My best idea is Murphy, after my ac fav, but I'm not dead set yet.
This one I got from someone who I consider to be my 'uncle', but he's just a close family friend. Honestly, I am concerned as to why I never cleaned the one until today, because with all my old things, I take a good amount of time with some rubbing alcohol and q tips, but I don't think I ever have with this console. Especially because it's been in two separate smokers houses, and there was a lot of brown that I couldn't see because it's black, but at least it should be pretty clean now. It works perfectly, dude took good care of it, it was just a tad dirty.
Now, controller wise, I need to pick up two more if I ever want to play with all four slots, and I'm not sure as to if I should reshell the purple controller, or buy a replacement black one, but they work the same so it's cool for now. Honestly, out of all the controllers I've played with, Gamecube controllers are my favorite, even if the plastic isn't as nice and soft as new Playstation or Xbox controllers are, the shape is fantastic.
Game wise, I have a couple more but I've got no clue where they are, and don't want to get the names wrong.
(From left to right)
1 - The Legend of Zelda: The Windwaker
2 - Animal Crossing
3 - Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets
4 - Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Askaban
Animal Crossing is definitely my favorite, and as I said earlier, Murphy is my favorite villager. He's got Arthur vibes, from being green, to the sweater vest, to the overall personality, Arthur would be Murphy, no questions asked.
Oh! And fun fact! If you've got a Wii and were wondering what the ports on top are for, you can play Gamecube games on a Wii if you get a controller and a memory card! That why on the disk reading screen, there's a tiny disk next to the Wii disk.

I love how weāre terraforming and strip mining islands and running the lives of our villagers like itās nothing, while in GameCube AC the mayor asked me once a year to turn on the lighthouse every night for a whole week and that felt like entirely too much responsibility to give one person

This is my first time playing AC and I love it but I also I guess not used to so much freedom nor I feel Iām very creative so at times I just donāt know what to do? Lus I donāt feel I have a lot of things (not terraforming yet) so at times I feel stuck you have any recommendations or tips?
AC is wild with the amount of freedom you have, but New Horizons has a whole new level of freedom!Ā
Letās see... what would I recommend? Iām basing this off of unlocking as much as you can on the phone so you can get all the customizationĀ options for your island.
1. As soon as you unlock Nook Miles +, do as many of those miles goals as you can. For me, the miles goals give me a sense of purpose. It makes it feel less like iām running around aimlessly if I have a small goal. But also:
2. I feel like itās especially important in the early game, but use your miles to buy Nook Miles Tickets and go visit remote islands. Iāve stocked up on a lot of crafting components that way, which made building the stuff the additional neighbors needed much easier. And it makes it a lot easier to build backup tools when mine break, because Iāve got so much storage. It looks like you can also get coconuts and one additional fruit for your island this way. Also, I feel like it can break up the monotony of fishing/catching bugs, because youāre doing it on a newĀ island. That might just be me, but it helps!
3a. Get the additional inventory space upgrades from the Nook Stop as soon as you can. That extra space is a lifesaver. I think the first one is available after you pay off your first mortgage and the second one is available after Resident Services becomes a building. If you do the Miles Goals regularly, you should have plenty of miles to do this.
3b. Try to pay off at least three of your mortgages asap. This helps you get more storage space for backup crafting materials, etc. Iām a hoarder though and I save everything.
4. Ask Tom NookĀ āHow Can I Help?ā and focus on thoseĀ āquestsā to progress things. This will get you closer to unlocking customization apps.
5. In the same vein, set up the plots to get the rest of your villagers as soon as Tom Nook gives you the option to purchase additional plots of land. It doesnāt really matter where you place them, because you can move stuff around for 50,000 bells once a day. The faster you fill up your village, the faster youāll start meeting other cool villagers so that you can build your ideal community.
6. For moneymaking, I recommend fishing. Ocean fish are usually worth more bells. I usually put on a tv show or a movie and do a few loops around the beach to fill up my inventory. There are a few bugs I think are worth catching (off the top of my head Paper Kite butterfly, Peacock butterfly, Giant Water Bug, Tarantula, Atlas moth), but youāll typically make better money off fish.
7. Once a week, on separate days, CJ and Flick will visit your island. CJ is a cute squirrel with a fishing show and Flick is a cute lizard with a bug obsession. When one of them is in town, focus on whatever their specialty is. CJ buys fish for higher than market value. Same with Flick for bugs. Itāll help maximize your Bell collecting.
8a. It can feel a bit tedious having to rebuild your weapons after they break. Because I have so many crafting components, itās not that big of a deal to rebuild them, but I try to avoid it. When I have the Miles Goal to spend 5000 bells, Iāll go to the store and buy two stacks of five of the customization kits. You canĀ ācustomizeā your tools to reset their lifespan. So, I cycle through the colors. I still break them sometimes, but if I remember to do this, itās pretty helpful.Ā
8b. Place another DIY workshop bench on the opposite side of your island from your house so you donāt necessarily have to run back to craft if you have components on you.
9. This is not a tip I would have given before, but I highly recommend playing the game without using the Time Travel method. You can bump your Switch clock ahead to go to the next day if you want. I did that with the 3DS version. I havenāt been doing that with this one and Iām enjoying it way more. (If you do decide to Time Travel, only do it one day at a time. Your villagers might start to move out if you go too far ahead in the timeline.)
Thatās really all I can think of right now! I hope itās helpful! I keep changing my mind about how I want to set up my village, so I have dumped so many bells into moving villager houses and I am not done doing that. The nice thing about this game is that itās so easy to make the money you need. And itās very easy to do while watching a TV show.
I do have to say that this is my favorite Animal Crossing game. Iāve played them since the Gamecube and this is the first one I can see keeping my attention longer than a month. Adding crafting and customization to it was a brilliant move on their part. Again, I hope this helps! If you need to ask anything else, feel free! I love talking about this stuff.

Iām stepping out of my comfort zone with this sort of post, but I think itās important.Ā
I recognize that in context, a lot of the posts and comments about throwing your whole island away after seeing other peopleās islands are jokes. I know this. But I also suspect that, like many jokes, we say things like this to cope with our own insecurities, and I want to give a slightly different perspective to this.Ā
This is my first Animal Crossing game since the GameCube, and I think, because I didnāt play any of the AC games that have been released since the early 2000ās, I am missing some of those connections that everyone else has with specific characters, or styles, or item sets. Every bit of this game was new to me.Ā
Iām a completionist at heart, and at first I was frustrated and felt like I was missing something, but, probably because Iām old and have spent too long in academia, I quickly concluded that my understanding of the game was simply the tip of the iceberg, and I wanted to see the rest.Ā
So I exposed myself to everything I could. I made this Tumblr so I could follow people who had neat ideas and custom content, I started watching YouTube videos and scouring the subreddits, and even now that my island is plenty complete, I still watch island tours on Twitch. I donāt necessarily recommend this strategy for everyone, but itās what my brain likes.Ā Ā
I was in awe of what I found. Since the original game, this community has changed tremendously. Frankly, it didnāt even exist like this when I played the first game.Ā
You all are insanely creative. Youāve taken the concept of a sandbox game and exploded it not only within the canon world, but also in the meta game. Animal Crossing has become so much more than a game about befriending animals in a small town, itās also become a medium for personal and artistic expression.Ā
Youāre making this island from a blank canvas, with a catalog of colors and shapes, and youāre creating something that is beautiful in your eyes. The things that call to you will be personal, and like art, based on your experiences. You use this island to tell a story, to give your villagers and visitors an experience, or to communicate the things that you are passionate about.Ā
There is no right way to make art, whatās important is that it speaks to you as the creator.
Please stop comparing your art to other peopleās. Please stop judging your work by the measures of anyone else.
Instead, try to look at what other creators have done with the materials you share. Think about what speaks to you, and try to understand how you can enact that in your island. And if that doesn't work, dig it up and try again! Afterall, nothing except the Resident Services location is permanent.Ā
I see a lot of islands and ideas that are ābetterā than mine. I see their ideas, and their masterful execution. I see things that I could never do. Thatās fine, though. I also enjoy paintings I could never paint, and read books I could never write. That doesnāt mean that I should toss the draft of whatever Iām currently working on. It means I should look into myself, and find the things I love, and find ways to put those into the world.Ā
I am confident that many of you have told the people you love to not compare their art, give yourself that same kindness.Ā
Finally, if your bottleneck in creativity is materials or money, this is an open invitation to ask me. Playing Animal Crossing has also helped me realize that for me, sharing ease and joy in life is important, and I have more than enough of most things on my island (except hardwood, I never have enough hardwood). I would rather share it with someone else than hoard it forever.Ā
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you have a wonderful day.Ā

2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 30 for Animal Crossing Ask Game. :)
thanks karolina! :)
2. do you play as yourself or a made up character? i play as OCs for most games, but i do play as myself in AC, probably because thatās how i first played it and iāve been playing the series for so long.
4. who were your first villagers? oh god. technically my first game was wild world and i canāt even remember all the villagers i had then. i played gamecube AC second, and my most memorable villagers there were huck, camofrog, kiki, and mitzi!
6. what villager personalities do you typically get along best with? lazy and jock! lazy animals are just so chill, and jock animals are hilarious haha.
7. who is your current best friend in the game? itās between bones and zell, but bud gave me his picture today!!
8. is there a villager you want to get rid of? iām not super into sylvia. she was one of my original villagers in NH but iām always weirded out by kangaroo villagers because their joeys always make the same expressions as they do and i donāt like it lmao.
11. where is your favorite spot in your village? i have a little beach concession stand with tables and coconut juice and shell furniture and infused water! itās so cute and i love it.
30. share a story from your gameplay. my two best friends and i were obsessed with huck when we shared gamecube AC during my last year of college. idek why, we just thought he was hilarious. so when NH came out, one of my friends bidded on his amiibo on ebay, and we finally got him!! now we have him in our towns and itās like everything is right in the world again š
