God I love how you draw your orca characters

Thank you so much!!! Orcas have been my childhood passion all my life, they were the first things I ever drew! I started my whole art journey drawing orcas back on DeviantArt but as time went on and they weren't a very lucrative subject I got into other things (but also just naturally finding other muses lol) and relatively recently- within the past couple years, got back into drawing them more regularly! That's where my Orcafolk, and Wolf by extension, came from because I wanted an orca race for one of my headworlds!

I actually have a lot of orca ocs I've just had sitting around in private for a while but with posting Wolf today I'd love to start posting more of them as well! <3

Osomatsu is really easy to make friends with! Although this guy is an irresponsible slacker, it is still easy to start communicating with him. I have only one question - HOW. How did you become friends with such a dark and scary guy like Ichimatsu..? Seriously, he’s shocked that such a nice person like you paid attention to him. You have to invite him for walks yourself, because he is damn shy. His favorite thing to do with you is when you are in the park and there is silence, just feeding the street cats, without saying a word and allowing your mind to rest. Sometimes he shows you funny and cute cat videos that calm him down. You are the closest person, since his brothers don't really pay attention to him, and other people find him scary. he truly values ​​you as a close friend.

Aww, you're really lucky with Jyushimatsu. he is literally the kindest ray of sunshine! you quickly became friends, as he is an open and cheerful guy. Every morning he comes to you with a baseball bat, begging you to play with him. 2. when in canon does your self insert come in? do you have a scene in mind for your entrance?

SO I imagine Erina to come in in between season 2 and 3.. I was posting about it a few nights ago, in the erina timeline she sees the matsus from the background at the highschool reunion and gets inspired to go hunt them down and calculate befriending them. . But that wouldn’t be her first scene that would be revealed later in the erina arc .. the first scene would be strange coincidences of the matsus seeing erina run into them in strange situations and coincidences, and it’s all recollected by the matsus all talking about their pov of the encounter at chibita until erina actually shows up behind them and being giggly abt how silly they are… im trying to adjust the specifics of her intro so it’s WIP ⚠️ 🚧

HEHE yes technically @tottychanneru ‘s oc ramirabi is like a pet to her but he is more like a little animal magical creature bff.. he is funny creature… he is her supporter.. her precious friend who phases through the window peacefully when he goes out for the day

And erina also gets a dog later in her and oso’s relationship… based off my own dog Cho Cho <3 I think in the erina verse he would be called Po Po maybe because thats one of my nicknames for him hehe, or Chopi, … and Osomatsu helps get him for her because she was longing for a dog… seeing someone want to give up their little cutie happy dog and erina wanting him so bad but can’t go and meet the owner because she has to work and she’s far away… and Osomatsu surprises her by going on the journey for him… he is a stubborn princely type dog who is very attatched to erina… Osomatsu would get a little competitive with him.. but they ultimately get along because of their love for erina, also they are animals together

11. what kind of outfit(s) does your self insert wear?

Erina is gyaru who kind of experiments with her style, likes agejo a lot but not totally tied down to it, sexy street fashion mixed with a casual cutsey toony flair.. if that makes sense. she loves cutesy patterns and accessories and colors… she usually show tummy and legs , wearing platformers/pumps/chunky shoes rather than too pointy of heels

8. what is your self insert’s orientation?

Truth be told, Sol has a bit of a hard time with labels, or at least used to. It took them a good while to be comfortable in their identity, and a lot of the time they put off even thinking about it due to feeling like they already had so much on their plate LOL. For orientation, they’d never felt connected to any label like bisexual or pansexual and etc. They identified as different ones growing up but now as an adult, they don’t really care I guess you could say, and they’re much happier just calling themselves Queer. Sol likes who they like, no matter the gender and that’s just how it is :3. And they are also Ace, which took them way longer to figure out, but they feel really content in that aspect of their identity.

For gender identity which I felt is also important to mention.. If they were a char in the show I’d want their gender to be like part of this fun bit where it’s never confirmed or anything and so a lot of the other characters often have this moment where they wonder… is that a pretty guy or a handsome girl? Yk, being confusing for funnies, but they just “are”. Like they aren’t a gender, they’re just Sol LMFAOO. And in the non gag anime way, their gender identity is a little more complicated. To strangers and the public eye, they’re comfortable with being seen as a man , even tho though don’t feel like one or identify as one, at least not fully. It’ll always be confusing for them, maybe never fully clear, but as long as they’re happy and comfortable presenting in whatever way they want, the label doesn’t really matter to them in the long run.. so Non binary is what feels right for now. (Fun Sol fact.. they’ve also had top surgery!)

9. who are your self insert’s closest friends?

I lovee this question.. I’ve mentioned them before, but in Sols story their closest friends before they grow close with karamatsu and later the res of the matsunos, their closest friends are Beck and Mimi :D my friends ocs!

I had to draw them for this one bc I love them so much. Sol meets Mimi at their convenience store job almost immediately after moving to Japan, and spending almost every day together leads to them quickly clicking and becoming friends, soon beginning to hang out outside of work … and becoming even closer when Sol confides in Mimi about their whole situation with their new painful blue friend that starts slowly snowballing into something bigger…. It takes a little while longer for Sol to become friends with Beck, since Beck actually meets Mimi first through his new friend Jyushimatsu, who is also friends with Mimi! Along with Ichimatsu and Todomatsu :P my friend Otter only recently made Beck so there’s stuff we’re still figuring out story wise, but rest assured they all get into silly antics together and get to hear Sol ramble on and on while they yell at them to open their eyes and accept there’s something that changed and is definitely going on with them and their friend.. I have this really funny lore bit with Mimi and the three youngest matsus that want to post about sometime soon.. but we shall see

Last but not least, 15. how does your self insert play a role in the plot of the story? do they help directly defeat the villain, support the heroes, etc.?

Sol was never meant to play any sort of role in the story, and I’d still say that they barely add anything to canon at all.. but im not sure how to explain. Sol was always meant to be a background character, but like in a literal sense. Show wise. They weren’t supposed to have a name, or friends or a past, they were just supposed to exist in the background and appear every once in a while. Even after they arrived in Japan. That was until they met the sextuplets, and it’s like they were suddenly aware. Like those silly posts you see about people talking about when they gain consciousness LOL, but literally. They were sort of shoved into this whole new world with new BIG overwhelming feelings and memories, almost as if a life had materialized from thin air, and one that had not treated them kindly in the past.

They still don’t play any sort of role in the canon universe, but something definitely changed. A change that they were not ready for, but became grateful for.. in the long run.

DN Fic Recs!!

Aight, I think the Death Note fandom could use some positivity. And I wanna be positive :D! So here is a list of fics with reviews, aka a thinly-veiled excuse to wildly ramble about brilliant fics made by incredibly talented people. A lot of these works inspire me, so I want to share them with others! If these fics sound interesting to you, I highly recommend that you check them out and give the authors lots of love :D

Anyway, here we go!

Fallout by Zaney HacknSlash Rating: M (FFN) Ships: (Not the main focus) eventual Matsu x Sayu, eventual Ide x OC, background Aizawa x Eriko, (kinda) Mogi x Misa

Dude. Duuuuude. If you want to see an action-packed, angst-filled joyride of a fic featuring the Task Force after Kira, this is it. This is a 10 year old rewrite of the original version of the fic, but it has a lot of the old fandom charm left over from the 2008 original. The plot is centered on the guilt Matsuda feels after shooting Light, and what he has to do when a mysterious enemy forces him to confront that guilt.

I like how the author gives us insight into every major character in the story. The flipping perspectives keep the story grounded in some places, but make it chaotic when it needs to be. Most importantly, I like how we see, inside and out, how tight-knit the Task Force has become after everything they've gone through. I also enjoy how each of the Task Force members have their own dilemmas and struggles that pay off by the end, all to do with loyalty. Overall, Fallout is an epic story with action, suspense, and plenty of original characters that don't overstay their welcome.

True Successor by @mapsareforbraindeads Rating: M (AO3) Ships: Beyond x Light, BeyondTsuda

I think this was the first fic that really helped me get the appeal of Beyond Birthday, and that's a feat all on its own. Here, Vari takes the original story of Death Note and flips it on its head with an idea that sounds like "crack treated seriously" on paper: What if L was dead before the events of the story? What if, instead, he were replaced by someone looking to, "realize what [L] could not"?

The portrayal of Beyond's mental state throughout is simply breathtaking. One standout (not-too-spoilery) example happens when Ukita dies as in canon. Vari does an incredible job of showing Beyond's frantic thoughts to the point where this part is actually stressful to read. I really wish I could go into more detail about how Beyond is portrayed, but it's really worth reading for yourself. Like I said, this fic helped me understand why people like B's story so much.

Even if you've never read the LABB book (I haven't yet), True Successor is an utterly fantastic work that you should check out.

Weakness by Airmid Rating: M (AO3) Ship: LawTsuda

I think I've talked about this one before, but it's worth talking about again. I think of this as "the" LawTsuda fanfic for a couple reasons, most notably in that it really makes the pairing work in a setting that's close to canon. I really adore the way Airmid characterizes L and Matsuda in this fic and immediately contrasts them from each other. The events of Weakness take place before L's death in canon, and the story asks some simple questions: What would have happened if L let himself confide in someone before he died? And what if that person was Matsuda?

I've read some of Airmid's other, longer, works, and while I enjoyed Happiness and Until the End, Weakness stands out to me because it feels a lot "tighter", if that makes sense. Using the bells from the anime, we get this very solid through-line of L secretly worrying and preparing for the inevitable... And then Matsuda comes in. This fic in particular continues to be a huge inspiration for a fic I'm writing, especially for the portrayal of Matsuda as equally earnest and impulsive.

Pretty much anything by Tallulah

Okay, I wish I could pick just one to talk about here. From the short and devastating Axioms to the very long and devastating Broken Hallelujahs, all of Tallulah's works—the smutty and the soul-crushing—have intriguing worlds and deep, dark characters. Just make sure you mind the tags before diving in, these ones get dark. As a MatsuIde fan, I've got to give a shout-out to Saviour. It took a while for me to "get" the style of the fic, but in the end I really loved the tone. The way Tallulah depicts the dissociation and trauma of these characters feels incredibly real, and when the fic drops its unique formatting to symbolize the characters "snapping out of it", you feel it. Broken Hallelujahs has a similar vibe, but its story has more fast-paced action. Ooh, and The End of Days is an incredibly solid, more "canon-compliant", work featuring Aizawa x Ide x Matsuda, a guilty pleasure ship for me.

Twisted Fate by TwilightMaster15 Rating: M (AO3) Ships: None tagged so far, background LawLight

If you've been in the DN fanfic scene, I'm sure you've seen (or maybe read) a "What if L was Kira?" fic. Well, here's a new one. What if Aizawa was Kira?

This is another fic that takes what could be a "crack" scenario and executes it super super well. Rather than getting a childish Kira who calls himself "God of the New World", we have Aizawa, who has become disillusioned by the justice system he works in. The fic does a really good job in setting up Aizawa's relationships, good and bad, with the other characters, as well as showing the very different choices Aizawa!Kira makes versus Canon!Light. Speaking of Light, his motivations and role in the story are very well-done. His inclusion feels incredibly natural, and I can't wait to see what he and L do next.

Kira's Guide to the Munchies by @palant1r Rating: T (AO3) Ship: MatsuLight

I've gotta end this list with a funny one, alright? This fic is an absolutely delightful treat. It's like digging into a nice, warm brownie... Oh, wait.

See, Palant1r doesn't just characterize Matsuda and Light, more like dissects these characters' essences, their weaknesses and fears and flaws, and lays them bare for the reader to see. And yes, this is also true for when Matsuda and Light are tripping fucking balls. This fic is so very silly, but we also get to see the way these characters think, even if their faculties are hindered by quite a bit of weed. A character study wrapped in a goofy concept, Kira's Guide to the Munchies is a ride that you just have to read to believe. Seriously. I was thinking about quoting lines here, but it works better when you don't know what's coming next.

How did u decide to put which chracters in which house for ur hq@hw? Like Mad Dog in Hufflepuff

In general, I thought a lot about their arcs and what they "needed" or represented

For characters like Asahi, Yamaguchi, and Yachi, they're characters who in the manga/anime are characterized a lot by their fears and insecurities and their arcs are about the bravery of facing those fears anyway and standing up for what they want. To me, that's some ultimate bravery so they went to Gryffindor. Ones like Noya, Iwaizumi, and Daichi, on the other hand, already have those Gryffindor characteristics and are pretty confident in themselves. They less need Gryffindor as they represent it.

Characters that seemed more interested in the analysis properties of the game--Kenma, Akaashi, and Shimizu--seemed better for Ravenclaw. They thrive in environments of thought and reflection.

Ones like Kageyama and Mad Dog, their arcs are so heavily about learning to rely on teams/others/friendship, I felt they HAD to go to Hufflepuff. They needed the House of loyalty and I feel flourish within that support where another House would increase their isolation tendencies. Date Tech characters also leaned toward Hufflepuff since their whole thing is strength in unity making the wall (Aone and Futakuchi especially seemed to be shown caring heavily about the team and graduating seniors). Ones like Bokuto and Hinata, meanwhile, are exeptionly friendly and inspiring characters that represent the House. Tbh, Hinata would also make a good Slytherin but Hufflepuff made more sense plotwise so that tipped the balance; really, I feel like Kageyama needed Hinata in Hufflepuff. Their early relationship would be too strained otherwise. For that and other plot reasons, Hinata's a Hufflepuff.

For Slytherin, characters that more focused on personal ambition went to that house. Lev, for example, had an arc (in manga/anime) where it was clear his goal was he really wanted to be Ace. His ambition guided his actions, much like Daishou. Matsu, Makki, and Suga meanwhile are characters that seem to take joy on reading the people around them and lightly manipulating them to their advantage. Maki and Matsu in a teasing way, Suga in a encourage and help the team way. They're very strategic in their communication which fit Slytherin to me. Oikawa is a mix of all that.

It was a sunny morning in the butterfly mansion, you had woken up early and you had the feeling that today would be a calm day, or at least that's what you thought; since you wouldn't think that returning from doing the errands assigned by Aoi to be stopped by some sounds.

You stopped when you heard some sad and weak meows, apparently fate knew that you have a weakness for felines so you decided to follow the sound to guide you and find the owners of it; After walking a few meters you found a small and adorable black cat, it had big green eyes, but they looked sad. You decided to take the little one in your hands so you could examine him and find the cause of the pain, at first the little cat tried to put up a little resistance, you clearly noticed that he was scared, so with all the gentleness you had you tried to pet him and let him know that You had no intention of hurting him.

After a few minutes you managed to move the animal a little and saw a wound on its back leg, it was not very serious but clearly it should be healed before it gets worse, so you decided that it would be best to take it to the farm to cure it. "I hope Aoi doesn't mind me bringing another cat" you say remembering when a few months ago you had to insist to your stubborn girlfriend to convince her that adopting your cat "Matsu" would be a good idea, it took time but you did it; although you don't count on the fact that you had to work twice as hard for a week on the farm and then indulge her and thank her. But anyway. You quickened your steps after picking up the little cat ready to transport him to the butterfly farm. It didn't take you long, so when you were already at the door you decided that you would take the animal to your room and then you would think about how to tell your girlfriend about the matter.

You clearly didn't count on the fact that Aoi had already sensed your presence, so seeing you quickly lock yourself in your room caught her attention. Heading to your room she knocked on your door

- "y/n why the rush to get into your room?" she asked, clearly nervous, you didn't know what excuse to come up with, since you weren't planning on being discovered by Aoi so quickly, "come on, y/n, think of something quickly."

-"I was very tired and I decided that the best thing would be to take a nap"

answer yourself, trying to sound as realistic as possible.

-"A nap at twelve noon" she says clearly suspecting something

-"I really need one because I'm a little weak from my walk"

your doubtful tone betrayed your nervousness, you cursed your poor ability to lie

-"y/n you worry me, I'm going in" and without even listening to any of your hasty excuses for not doing so, the blue eye opens your door. giving up you decide that there is no point in trying to hide the small feline that was lying on your bed.

Aoi sighs, clearly not very surprised by the small animal, everyone on the farm knew about your little adoration of cats.

-"So this was what you wanted to hide from me" he says looking at you

-" I'm sorry but it's urgent, little Sugi needs help"

-"Oh! he already has a name" she says trying to hide his smile, because she doesn't want to admit that she finds it cute the weakness that your partner has for these animals

- "yes I thought about it while I was heading here, but look" you say pointing to his foot, he should cure it.

The little sugi was no longer meowing but his lack of emotion was still noticeable. After Aoi's speech to you about the responsibility it would be to have another cat and how you should take care of this cat and Matsu yourself, they got to work and started healing the little one. After a few weeks, the new feline member of the Sugi farm had recovered successfully, all the girls loved the little one, except your other beloved pet Matsu, who was not very happy with the fact of having to share the attention that everyone had previously given him. The farm was given to you, Aoi, the girls and even the patients.

Some days you and Aoi had to deal with their antics like when you had to clean up the two cats after they got into the fountain and got dirty, or when you got into a fight over yarn and broke a vase, (you had to convince Aoi that he doesn't take them and that you would buy another vase).

But despite all those antics, over time Matsu got used to Sugi's presence and they began to get along better, so everything became calmer and so one night in which you and Aoi were reading quietly in your room, They were accompanied by the presence of the two felines, you were very happy to be able to share such a quiet and special moment with your beautiful girlfriend and the little kittens that you adored so much.

if he's around people he trusts he's likely to laugh more, at super not funny things especially. for example, bad puns, horribly edited memes or videos, and dark jokes are high on the list. (I may or may not also find these things very funny)

anyway that got into when he laughs. as for HOW he laughs: it varies depending on how funny something is.

Mildly amusing? Dry chuckle. almost sounds like a cough or the engine of a car if that makes sense. sometimes he will say (with no change in tone whatsoever), "haha. that was quite amusing."

unlike L, this statement is ONLY true for when he's in the company of others. when alone I think Near does a fair bit of laughing, though it's quiet

it's just the kind of vulnerability and genuine enjoyment that he only feels safe to express when he's alone...

anyway Near's laugh is a little rough like he's not used to doing it. he might chuckle for a while, or just let out a quick and sharp "HA!" if he's more startled into laughter. the first one is more private, the second he might let out a couple of times in company

I think Near would also lie in bed at night and just laugh at the ceiling. maybe especially if he's had a bad day. it makes him feel a little better and reminds him that there are good things in the world! Because when Near laughs he remembers the other things that have made him laugh

Near can also mimic lots of different kinds of laughs. I feel like he's a storyteller, even if he only tells the stories to himself, so this skill can come in very useful!

What kind of TikTok does matsu do??

Osomatsu is on pranktok all day. It's his favorite stuff to watch, and even attempt when he thinks of something good. He also happens to enjoy some of the thirst trap tiktoks that float across the fyp when they do, but he likes strictly watching those. The one time he did attempt a thirst trap, his video was taken down lol

Karamatsu is on cooktok! A lot of the recipes he knows off the top of his head are things people seem to enjoy according to what he sees on his feed, so he gives it a shot. His videos aren't spectacular by any means, but they're simple and easy to follow. He doesn't get a ton of comments, but every once in a while he'll get a single mom thanking him for making an easy meal or like someone's grandma telling him he looks so handsome. He watches a lot of cooking videos himself and even some home improvement. Definitely has a lot of singing videos in his likes as well!

Choromatsu is all about the anime edits baby. He tried his hand at K-pop edits to start but was tired of the fan squabble in the comments so he switched it up. There's a ton of anime that he enjoys, so making content is easy for him. He personally also enjoys the thirst trap tiktoks that wander across his feed, but he's a lot less loud about it in comparison to Osomatsu. You may also find a bunch of TikTok hack videos in his likes. Ichimatsu is on CatTok c'mon now! Anything and everything cats! He actually gains quite a following as he films himself visiting the strays in Akatsuka. With some guidance he learns how to keep himself safe from people recognizing him. In his likes you will find plenty of arts and craft videos, DIY's and even some ASMR!

Jyushimatsu is on HorrorTok/LiminalSpaces lol. Somehow him just existing with a phone in his hand and recording in a nighttime setting is enough to terrify a good number of people. He gives no context for his videos and he ends up in the strangest places that give little to no explanation of what's going on. Sometimes inexplicable objects or non-human things can be seen in his videos, but never for more than a second or two - and it leaves his followers stumped and afraid every time. He has no likes.

Todomatsu loves doing viral dances. He's not great at every single one, and some have gotten him some negative attention (people like to tell him that he looks constipated, when it's really just his frustrated face showing through), but he gives it his best shot and posts them anyway. He prefers to watch a lot of aesthetically pleasing videos: cozy gaming, certain kinds of ASMR, people painting or cooking, stuff that lets him just chill. Definitely hits up some of the big names on TikTok asking for a follow back, but they never answer lol.

mr rice can u please share your thoughts on ososan s1 and 2 vs s3 differences , like the direction they went that was less meta referencing the reboot nature of the show, and more on the mundanity and sisyphean nature of being directionless young adults (who are also virgins). i could probably write a thesis paper on this, and idk how having watched all 3 seasons back to back in the year of our lord 2024 affects my opinions, but ill try to keep it brief (1029 word stream of consciousness )

tldr: S3 lost sight of The Bit

dont get it twisted i LOVE slice of life stuff. i like characters. season 3 had some of my all-time favorite segments (pizza, the way home, mt takao). however to me what felt off about the season was moreso like… the Ratios. the Overall Season Balance, Ebb and Flow, it was all wrong. s3's skits were as a whole longer, fewer, and less funny. i did tier lists of every single segment from each season and i was shocked how fewer segments s3 had compared to s1. theyre too freaking long. and not even funny!!!

i didn't realize how.. idk stale? s3 was getting until cosplaymatsu and then i was fucking gulping for fresh air like FINALLY SOME GOOD FUCKING OUT-OF-CONTINUITY BITS!!!!!!!!!!! 

the thing is to me i think the Bit should trump all. s1 finale took this very literally, trampling all over the emotional cliffhanger for the Bit, but i think s2 finale also valued the bit of "well s2 is over so all that's left to do is die" while also retaining the emotional flow of facing mortality. i think s2 had the best finale for this reason btw. but ask me aboit that separately

to me osomatsu-san's Core Bit, at least that it started out with in s1, is "-kun is about these sextuplets being identical, so it's funny that they're all different as adults". the differences between them was in and of itself a punchline!! six same face!! to me as soon as you lose sight of this you lose my interest. no -kun flashback for s3e1 was a death keel. also, fuck you inumatsu

s2 took this core bit and ran with it a little further, now a little more confident in their characterizations they used the differing personalities as new comedy material. it's probably the platonic ideal of how ososan can combine its identities of "60's anime remake" and "jyushimatsu cordyceps"

i think s3's bit is, if there is one, at best, "there is no joke. we deadass just haven't done anything of value". which i just don't think is a good bit. it's one note, it's not versatile, and it gets dangerously close to being at the audience's expense- i think you can convey the lethargy and sisyphean existence without also making the audience feel like they wasted their time (i.e. the absolute worst sin a piece of media could commit). So the bit isn't good and they're not even dedicated to it in a way that matters. 

"does there have to be a bit" well yes! I think so. it's a gag anime. i guess that's the crux of my argument. if you dont have the balls to commit to character development you MUST commit to the bit. i think s3 fell flat for me bc it couldnt commit to anything

i watched osomatsu-san with a dear friend of mine who, bless their heart, still can't tell the sextuplets apart 3 seasons 2 mini serieses every bonus episode and 4 movies later. but they could still enjoy s1 and s2 because the matsus and their personalities were vehicles for the punchline- not the focus. as soon as they started writing about the matsus themselves and losing sight of the Bigger Picture (the bit) they got very lost. and im aware theyre an outliar viewer but i don't think it's unrelated. 

i think mt takao is a good summary of this issue. there's no bit- we're just slice of life moments with the brothers. but then tbey feel like they need to make a joke, lest people start expecting them to actually let these boys find happiness, so they just do a "and then we all died, jk, we can't actually accomplish anything of value" punchline at the end. it's a disservice to people who are invested in the characters, and for people who aren't, it's just not funny!

omusubi thoughts: theyre cutes. i could tell watching them that they were probably quite disliked for derailing the season so i immediately became like, fans in a hater way. lol 

i think their core bit is good: showa anime meets modern robots who don't Get It. but their storyline doesn't tie into their Bit, and its attempted tie-ins with the sextuplets never emotionally resonated. episode 12 was, affectionately, a huge waste of time (though the sheeh payoff made me woop and holler) considering i couldnt even get over my suspension of disbelief that the sextuplets would actually give a shit enough about them as People to bust their asses saving them (which, after their self actualization, they clearly still were treating them like machines. so it's like yeah i knew that shit was fake)

but like yeah after that they weren't their Bit anymore. they just became characters. maybe that's the summary of my issue w s3? no one is their Bit anymore. everyone's so attached to the Characters now that no one values the Bit anymore. we've gone so far into gap moe that ichimatsu isnt even scary anymore. if rental girlfriends had happened in s3 it'd be totty with the tiger cage 

but anyways. omusubi are interesting to me because i said earlier how s3 doesnt want to commit to anything, but it does seem like they wanted to commit to telling full character arcs, but had trapped the sextuplets into a Popularity-Induced Personality Prison where they've become too popular to meaningfully change, so they tried to do it with new characters and side charas (nyaa single mother arc peak). so like… i enjoyed the omusubi character arc bc it was at least something solid to grasp onto in this season with writing more fleeting than sand 

(but again, it still got invalidated and didn't matter in the end!)

in the end it is hard to cheer for characters if you know fucking nothing will matter in the end (very similar to my aggretsuko review i wrote in my head and didn't post anywhere), so if they're not at least funny about it i'm like What's the point.

Osomatsu is a typical older brother. He jokes about you a lot and treats you like a small child, not paying attention to your age. But still, he is much softer towards you than towards the rest of his siblings. He can be very clingy and even annoying, constantly trying to hug or touch your cheeks. there is a feeling that he is jealous of your other brothers, so he tries to spend as much time with you as possible in order to show himself as a “cool older brother.” in fact, he doesn’t care that you are adopted, he considers you part of his family and is ready to protect you just as much as the others.

Karamatsu loves you VERY MUCH. He was delighted when he found out that he was going to have a little sister. always tries to show himself as a “protector” around you, although he does it as stupidly as possible. He treats you like a princess, dresses you up in beautiful clothes, paints your nails and does your hair. If you have a hard time sleeping at night, he will offer to lie next to you and sing you a lullaby (which will make your ears bleed, but he really tries his best..). Consults you about his clothes, asking for your opinion. sees in you a small creature that he is obliged to protect.

Choromatsu seems quite strict. Monitors your studies, cleanliness in the room and behavior, not allowing you to say even mild curses. But in fact he really loves you and just doesn’t know how to show it. Allowing you to read his mangas (SAFE ONLY, he hides any porn mangas from you), takes you with him to Nya chan’s concerts and sometimes allows you to play with his anime figurines. He believes that the rest of Matsuno are a bad influence on you, especially Osomatsu, so he tries to spend more time with you than they do.

it looks like Ichimatsu doesn't care about you, but that's not true at all. At first, he didn’t even come close to you, nervously peeking from the corner and avoiding, as if afraid to scare you away. but if you take the initiative into your own hands, you can easily make friends with him. You are one of the few people with whom he likes to spend time and with whom he is comfortable, together with you he looks for cats on the street and offers to feed them. Thinks he's a shitty big brother, but he really tries to be nice to you.

Jyushimatsu considers you his best friend! Seriously, you guys have been together since the first day you crossed the threshold of the apartment. When he wakes up, the first thing he does is run to wake you up, shouting “y/n-nisaan!!!!! get up!!!! get up!!!! Good morning!!! let's go!!!! Y/N-NISAAN!!!!!” tugging and lifting from bed. Since he has no one to play with, he teaches you baseball, rejoicing at your success and showing you what he can do. He talks to you a lot, telling you all his thoughts and listening to you carefully. He is pleased that he finally has a sibling with whom he is so close friends besides Ichimatsu.

Todomatsu adore you very much. He is glad that now in their house there are not only stupid virginal degenerates, but also a sweet little sister. Loves to dress you up in cute outfits or wear his hats on you. He takes you with him to cafes or dates, which is why many girls are touched by you and want to communicate with Todomatsu more, which is why he always takes you with him. You Should Show Grave of the Fireflies to Your Kids

Viral posts online suggest Grave of the Fireflies should never be shown to kids. Here's why they are wrong.

It is okay for children to experience sad and even scary stories. In fact, doing so in safe environments is extremely healthy! Feeling sad allows us to learn empathy so we know how ourselves and others should be treated. The need to healthily experience sadness is literally the entire point of the movie Inside Out — a movie made with child audiences in mind — which will probably get its importance across better than any short paragraph I could write here. Sadness is an inevitable part of life, why would we want to leave children ill prepared to deal with it? If the continued relevance of fairy tales and Goosebumps Books didn't make it clear, stories that safely scare kids as part of consensual fear experiences are healthy for their development too. As psychologist Emma Kenny explained, "when you are reading a scary story to a child, or they're reading to themselves, the child has got a level of control — they can put it down, or ask you to stop. And the story can raise a discussion, in which they can explore and explain the way they feel about a situation." This is why scary and sad movies like Grave of the Fireflies can be an important tool in developing emotional literacy in children. According to psychologist Claud Steiner emotional literacy is "made up of the ability to understand your emotions, the ability to listen to others and empathize with their emotions, and the ability to express emotions productively." Studies have shown that both children and adults with good emotional literacy have better outcomes in life. Children with strong emotional literacy are able to pay attention better, are more engaged when being educated, have more positive relationships, and have better empathy all while being better at healthily regulating their emotions. For adults, this has resulted in having lower job-related stress, better job satisfaction in general, and a similar increase to their positive relationships like children have. Even without intense scientific backing, it seems clear that the ability to understand and safely process one’s emotions is an important skill worth developing purely because it would allow people to healthily interact with other and society as a whole. If scientific backing isn’t convincing enough, we know that young children can healthily interact with these stories because they do every day in Japan. Barefoot Gen, a manga loosely based on Keiji Nakazawa’s experiences after surviving the bombing of Hiroshima, is available for children to read in elementary and junior-high school. In fact, when schools in Matsue attempted to restrict access to the book in 2012 due to claims that what it depicted was too graphic for children, that ban was rescinded less than a year later. As the widow of Nakazawa said, "War is brutal. It expresses that in pictures, and I want people to keep reading it."

We should realize what a blessing having the privilege to witness these horrors animated on a screen from the safety of our home is while others have experienced them abroad and are still experiencing them abroad. While we live on lands stolen from people our ancestors committed horrifying atrocities against who still suffer today from those actions. To not show this movie to children models the behavior that we should refuse to acknowledge cruel acts happening in our world so long as it preserves our personal comfort to those kids. If we show kids movies like Grave of the Fireflies in a safe environment where they can process it, they can grow up into the kind of people who understand the horrors of war and will do all they can to prevent it. They can understand as adults that by starting new wars they will irreversibly scar an entire generation of people who come after them.
