Well, Agent Phoenix is a blank slate character so you can choose any of these. But it's all up to you.

Regarding the whole "less likely to have family connections", the Philippines is a lot more biased towards people with said connections, especially in government jobs (if you're buying into the "the agency sometimes has ties to the military/government" headcanon but it still applies to other parts of society) so it is a possible (but still kinda unlikely, in my opinion) scenario for Phoenix to have strong family ties that can lead to 'favors' and other similar things when it comes to gathering intel.

Onto the backstory suggestions. I'll just give a blanket warning that this will not paint the countries in a positive light if you dig deep into this and (based on the few in this fandom I've told some details about) would generally be upsetting. Also, I'm going off what I remember.

I'm going off the assumption you headcanon the games' time period to be in the 1960s.

If you're going for third gen, that would mean one of your Phoenix's ancestors would've been alive to see or experience what is called "benevolent assimilation", which may not be a fun thing to read about. It also might contribute to your Phoenix not being able to speak a lot of any of the Philippine languages, no matter which people group he's from (Some areas are hit harder). If you're going to draw from real historical events. It could tie to the theory of "Zoraxis and the agency were once allies", especially if you consider that Zoraxis as a company, may have been pushed onto Filipinos. But this requires a bit more research and nuance that I don't have time to dig into.

If WWII occurred in your interpretation, there can be a lot more nuance to his attitude towards conflict, especially depending on where he lived in at the time. And on those he grew up around. There's a lot of potential characterization elements if you know where to look. (Look into the many guerilla fighter groups in the Philippines since some were against their own fellow Filipinos, which may contribute to why he's treating this espionage career seriously, seeing how many other spies from guerilla groups ended up dead or tortured. But since he's American, he could be more sympathetic towards Americans but also quite resentful if he grew up hearing about the grizzly details of the death march. There is a lot of fodder for that.)

Depending on how you write his parents, you might want to look into OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) and their children. Due to historical events, Filipinos in healthcare can be a good place to start looking into.

There are more but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. The history between these two countries is quite interconnected and nuanced that I can't think of the right words for it since I could misinterpret a side or event.

Your asks sent me down a rabbit hole yesterday of looking into Phillipines/US history at the time /pos

So I've heard of some of those things, but I'll dig a little deeper into those

Thoughts of my Phoenix so far under the cut:

First of all, I'm going off of the timeline that IEYTD takes place in 1967 (which I saw from @agent-calivide 's post on the timeline)

(I'm also not American or Filipino and not the most knowledgeable about history so anyone can correct me if I'm wrong and sorry if I mess anything up🙏)

If that's the case and I'm saying Phoenix is in his early 30s, let's say 34. So he would have been born in 1933, right between WW1 and WW2. He would have been 6 when WW2 started and 12 when it ended in 1945, so while he wouldn't have participated, his father probably would have. It would have shaped his childhood and had a huge effect on how he thinks - I could definitely see it as what led him to want a job in an intelligence agency.

So, if we assume people around then are having kids in their 20s, that would put his parents as born around 1913 and their parents around 1893.

I'm also going off of the assumption that he'd have to be white-passing and definitely a US-born citizen to get a government job in that time period.

That tells me that both his grandparents and parents likely married someone born in the US - which causes issues because apparently anti-interracial marriage laws in the US counted for Filipinos, so relationships between them and white people would have been illegal. However, I think people do have a history of going around the law in cases like that.

And from what I can tell, even if the marriage was illegal, as long as their kid was born in the US that would make them a citizen.

I read that the manong generation was the first to come to the US as a group in 1903, right after the US made the Phillipines a colony. In that case, if I say one (or both) of his grandparents came over in 1903 (I can say they were born a little earlier than 1893 in that case, maybe ~1885), that seems to fit pretty well.

That's the extent of my thoughts so far. I think that vague family history works, but I haven't come up with any specifics.

One thing I didn't mention is that it's possible the family/some members went back to the Phillipines at some point - all that matters for my version is that Phoenix was born in the US and had some caucasian ancestors. I made the assumption that his grandparents/parents got married in the US, but there were Americans occupying the Phillipines at the time so that's also a possibility (though based on what I read there could be some very dark implications if his family were in the Phillipines during that time, especially WW2)

I'll look into anon's suggestions and see what comes up along the way, and I'm also open to new comments if anyone has thoughts based on that whole essay :]

Hello Carrot.

This will seemingly come out of nowhere but I feel an intense need to share it. It just so happens that, lately, I have been replaying Our Fantastic Wonderland. Suddenly, a theory struck me, as to what Our Fantastic Wonderland is, exactly.Here's my thesis : I believe that OFW is a dream. An actual dream fabricated by the brains of the main characters, with Iggy's brain having the most agency on it. Let me explain my arguments.

Number one : On and off switch.

As the game starts, the player quickly understands that this fantastical universe is a game of D&D led by Hunar, in which each of the characters are... Well... Characters. HOWEVER. It is a pretty common theme in dreams (mine at least) to regularly switch between a spectator and a character. I cannot count the amount of times I've dreamt I was consuming a piece of media, and also somehow WAS a character from said media. Of course, this was never a "switch" as organized as a game of D&D (as a matter of fact, I never even got to play that game!) but that is still a reoccuring dream theme.

Number two : the inconsistencies.

As the first argument points out, the game presents as a D&D campaign, which would be a reasonable explanation for what OFW is.... IF it wasn't for several inconsistencies that wouldn't make any sense in a REAL LIFE setting. For one, Hunar seems to be able to change the visual settings of the fantastic world, without even uttering a single word. For example, when Iggy and Genzou insist that they empty field they must cross is suspiscious, Hunar is able to suddenly change the scenery, ithout visibly doing a thing. Furthermore, Genzou asks Iggy if the field now looks scary beyond reason. This implies that the characters can actually SEE this universe (aside from Genzou but you know what I mean) and that this may NOT be a product of their imagination. Then, the glitch. As the rabbit guards capturee Iggy's comppanions in the place where supposedly lays the Sacred Altar, Iggy comes back to "reality" and asks his "real life" companions where they are. If the crew truly was sitting at a table, playing D&D, this couldn't actually happen. And this is what a lot of dreams do. Alter "reality" and often make the dreamer feel disconnected from it. One may argue "Oh, but Iggy is just really in character!", except that IF it was the case, he would be calling out for Ghent in the Ghent/Gidget route. But no. He calls out for Gidget. He is not playing, he's genuinely terrified and can't seem to come back to "reality".

Number three : the callbacks.

This fantastical universe the characters seem to find themselves in is supposedly a completely new, invented world. HOWEVER, some things are just a little TOO familiar. The tomato creatures, The giant eyeball, the rabbit guards... The way Jerry acts is also a little TOO close to the way Orlam acts as the king in wonderland. The same poses, facial expressions, and a very, very similar motivation. Jerry explains that he and his kind were relentlessly bullied and used until weakened. He explains things in a way that can DEFINITELY remind the viewer of the way Orlam explains his suffering started long before Wonderland. This is very interesting, because dreams are known to be an amalgam of things the brain has learnt and absorbed in real time, a rework of memories, if you will. And this... This fits the perfect definition of it.

Number four : the characters beyond the characters.

The way the characters act in OFW is extremely familiar. At first, it is seemingly explained by the fact they seem to be playing a game of D&D. But... As mentioned earlier, with the glitch, Iggy is genuinely reaching out to his friends, not just their OFW personas. This is ESPECIALLY striking in his ending "you make me happy" declaration, notably in the Gidget/Ghent route. As Ghent and Ignatius are about to fell to their doom, Iggy specifies that he loves Ghent for who he REALLY is. And this... This hits DIFFERENT. Iggy isn't talking to Ghent... He's talking to Gidget. He's telling them that he loves them for who they truly are, not for the persona they fabricated to supposedly be more likable.

Number five : remembering.

I believe that OFW is a dream, fabricated by Iggy and his friend's brains after what occured in Our Wonderland. Some sort of "multiplayer dream", but that isn't some oracle or vision. An actual dream, almost instantly forgotten upon waking up, that would occur between arc four and arc five, right before the "I remember everything!" realization. This would make sense, considering :

- Among the first 4 timeloops in OW, despite Iggy being a reliable narrator and having some feelings of rememberance regarding the first loops, there is one character who seems to remember slightly better than he does : Genzou. Indeed, Genzou is often the one to say things like"I have a bad feeling about this choice" in OW. Of course, this could be explained by the fact that he has fallen to quite a guesome death in pretty much every ending, but I also believe he retains more control on his brain than the others. This explains why he doesn't seem to really "change" upon entering the Wonderland, and explains why he falls into a depressive episode upon remembering everything in detail. Because suddenly, every little feeling he had MADE SENSE. In a horrible manner too. Of course, this checks out when one realizes Genzou IMMEDIATELY recognizes Jerry.

- After killing Cecil in arc 5, Gidget suddenly comes to the realization that they have been living under this fake persona this entire time. This realization has been revealed due to Cecil being the voice of reason, able to see beyond Gidget's persona, but perhaps, it was also a distant subconscious memory. Perhaps, in the back of their mind, they heard a voice that said "You make me happy. The real you.".

- Lastly, of course, Iggy wakes up after falling to his death with the love interest of his choice. He wakes up... In the real world. The OW real world. And that feeling he experiences, of "perhaps later, calling Genzou/Orlam/Gidget" would also explain his sudden choice at the end of OW. Iggy's entire character arc is that he feels he has no sense of self, and doesn't even make his own choices. However, the player still chooses which love interest he will end up. BUT, what if each of the three "love interest routes" in OW is a continuation of the OFW routes? This would not only make perfect sense as to why Iggy suddenly feels more drawn to one of these 3 characters, but it would also reattribute some agency for Iggy. This is a choice HE makes, as a continuation of that dream he had. This wasn't the player's choice, but Iggy's all along.

I'M DONE. Sorry for this MASSIVE paragraph, I got really excited over this. I'm a philosophy student, perhaps that explains why I structure my thought so much and can't seem to shut up XD. I had a lot of fun with this theory, although I feel like I'm going too far into the analysis. But that's just how I am, I can't help it. I was wondering, is this theory viable in any way?? Or am I completely off and taking random details for massive hints?

I'll be honest and say that even I don't fully know exactly how I want all the pieces to fit together between OW and OFW. even when making it, it was just supposed to be this silly non-canon thing, but as it went on, I suddenly started to connect it more and more to the main game, and then afterwards brought so many pieces of it INTO the main game, so it exists in this way that connects the two but with probably countless possibilities for how it all works (that I don't even want to get into as I actually like it a bit more when it's somewhat nebulous and the answers aren't all there and ppl can come up with their own theories)

this is fascinating though... I'm not sure I've ever thought about the possibility of it being a dream before?? but a lot of what you said really makes sense!! so I definitely think it could be a viable theory 👀

I really like how you connected it in so many different ways, like how Iggy is speaking to them even beyond the reality of the OFW world and Jerry's whole thing and Genzou being more unaffected. Some of these things were things I didn't even notice or do on purpose myself (though this is not surprising LOL ppl are constantly pointing out things from OW that I didn't even notice or plan 🤣) it's made me think about OFW in some new ways even myself!!

A Plea from One of the Millions Who cared for Rodrigo Duterte

We live in a time where misinformation spreads faster than truth, and many fail to see the real impact of a leader who stood against crime and corruption for the sake of the Filipino people. I am one of the millions who love and support former President Rodrigo Duterte, not because of blind loyalty, but because I have seen firsthand the difference he made in our country.

Drugs destroy the future of the youth. Drug addiction has led to countless crimes ,murder, rape, and violence that have torn families apart. Those who use and sell drugs choose a dangerous path, one that leads to suffering not only for themselves but for innocent people around them. How many young lives have been lost to addiction? How many families have suffered because of drug-related crimes?

Duterte stood up against this evil when others were too afraid to act. He faced criminals head-on, prioritizing the safety of millions of innocent Filipinos. If he were truly a bad president, why do so many people still fight for him today? Why do ordinary citizens continue to defend his legacy? It is because he was a leader who genuinely cared, one who made tough decisions to protect the people even if it meant facing criticism from those who benefited from corruption and crime.

A true father disciplines his children out of love. If your own father caught you doing drugs, would he ignore it? No. He would be angry, he would be hurt, but most importantly, he would want you to change. Duterte was like a father to the Filipino people. He did not tolerate wrongdoing. He was not perfect. he had a foul mouth, he spoke harshly but he took action when it mattered. And for that, criminals feared him, corrupt politicians wanted him gone, but millions of Filipinos stood by his side.

During the pandemic, we all feared for our survival. Many lost their jobs, and we thought we would starve. But the government, under Duterte, made sure that we had food to eat. While other leaders focused only on politics, he focused on the people. And even after his term ended, those who seek to twist the truth have not stopped their attacks against him.

Why do people still love him? Why do the people of Davao continue to respect him? Why do leaders of other nations admire him? Why do our OFW brothers and sisters support him? Because they saw the truth. They saw a leader who was willing to face the dirtiest battles to keep the country safe.

To those who cry for justice for drug addicts, I ask , where was your voice when innocent people were raped, murdered, and terrorized by criminals under the influence of drugs? Where was your outcry for the victims? Duterte did not order senseless killings he simply made it clear that crime would no longer be tolerated. Those who chose to continue down a dark path were given multiple chances to change. Free rehabilitation programs were offered. The government extended a helping hand. But what did they do? They continued to harm others.

People say Duterte had a dirty mouth but words do not define a person’s true character. Many hide behind politeness while committing terrible acts, just as there are those who go to church yet continue to do wrong. I would rather stand with a leader who speaks harshly but fights for the people than one who speaks gently but does nothing to stop injustice.

We must not let false narratives erase the truth. We must continue to stand against drugs, against crime, and against those who seek to protect criminals for their own benefit. Duterte may no longer be in office, but his impact remains. And as one of the millions who love and support him, I will continue to fight for the safety and future of my country and to the one guy who fight for us!

Eros panted as his thrusts began to match his own rapid pulse, the witch's headboard pounding against the wall as he continued to pound into Alec. The young werebear wasn't sure how he got here, balls deep inside of the witch in front of him. Eros might be a himbo, but never forgetful. One could wonder if bewitchment may have occurred to allow for Eros to grab Alec from his hair as he thrusted deep inside of the older man. But that's not the case of course, Eros remembers how this went. The casual glance in passing, the feigning of help with furniture, the staring of one particular werebear's biceps as he lifted said furniture. It was a dance Eros knew all too well and was entirely happy in its performance.

"Fuck, Alec.." Eros breathes hotly against the witch's neck as he leans closer to Alec, his thrusts not dwindling in speed or roughness. "Your ass feels amazing."
