do you ever wonder if zombies are just Like That because of the mad cow disease
I suppose, the symptoms of personality change, irratic movements, unbalanced movements, loss of intellect and memory, and slurred speech do sound like zombies in fiction - but mad cow disease, BSE (or, Variant CJD - there are four types of creutzfeldt-jakob disease mostly based on how it gets transmitted) also causes immobility and vision problems, which would stop the zombies from being able to actually hunt down humans.
one could definitely argue that CJD zombies that get less and less mobile, eventually dragging themselves along the ground, would be an interesting take (similar to 28 Days Later, for example, where the zombies slowly die off without food). however if it was based in reality they wouldn't be hungering for flesh, they would be more like dementia patients.
i certainly think some zombie media has been heavily inspired by CJD - especially in countries where there has been a major CJD scandal or outbreak (like in the UK)

okay I'm sorry for the amount of asks but also scrolling your blog has jogged my memory so much I've been here for a WHILE
there was dream shape discourse in June 2020 iirc, I vaguely remember the original mcytblr election (I was supporting pog-juice and I think I have the banner made for them saved somewhere too)
oh-- i caught the tail end of the shape discourse, i joined in july 2020! absolutely feel free to send in the election banner, too, if you can find it!
(if there's anyone who remembers the shape discourse clearly, please dm me-- i've been curious about it for years!)
#ask#automatic external defibrillator#not an archived post#and don't worry about sending too many asks! i'd rather have a lot of asks than none at all ^-^

more general val headcanons (2023 edition)!
Astra doesn’t consider herself much of an artist but she loves to draw and doodle + visual additions to notes really helps her remember things well
Agents that can sing decently or better: Phoenix, Jett, Sage, Astra, Chamber, Cypher (hums, nothing really fancy but hums a Lot)
Agents that are notoriously bad at singing: Breach, Viper (doesn’t want to try anyways!), Raze (best dancer on base tho!)
everyone else is pretty average or uninterested in it
Jett’s hair and eye colors were changed by her Radiance from her natural dark brown eyes and black hair. She likes her new look but also hates that it was kinda forced on her when she got her abilities LMAO
Sage teaches first aid classes and tactics as part of their trainings but also just good knowledge to have in general, including CPR, treating severe wounds, helping someone who’s fainted, using an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) and more.
Jett had a major parkour and tumbling phase in her youth that she never fully grew out of, so even without the added flight or momentum of her Radiance, she can do a backflip. Nobody believes her when she insists this though.
Cypher is a pretty good cook, having used to love making meals for Nora and their little one before he joined the Protocol. (malewife material)
Viper complains about looking after Lucia, but very frequently comes in to check on her out of personal concern. Refuses to admit to this if asked.
Harbor tries to be as helpful as possible around base, even taking chores and small tasks off the others’ hands to make their lives easier. Often times, if not always, he refuses any sort of payment or returned favors for it too.
Phoenix enjoys playing the piano, though he rarely shows this skill off.

3 & 12 for the ask game!!
(ask game!)
3. do you have any introjects from sources not everyone knows?
one that literally only @/automatic-external-defibrillator @/mosscloakenthusiast and @/seaweediscool know is stefan who came from absolution, which ray wrote and the other two came to watch me perform in, so like. i dont think he has any sourcemates in the world lol. also pearl being from eswap and alina being from ohio au 👍 if it has to be actual published media then i guess probably alexia-rose as a late addition to pirates wins that race
12. what's the source with the fewest introjects?
if we call Em See Why Tee its own unit of a source then it's a tie between layla moonknight, eliza hamilton, stefan absolution as mentioned... if we call each separate smp its own source then this question makes no sense because they almost all only have one, in fact this was a running pattern right up till martyn that everybody was exclusive to their own source and didn't cross over with anyone else

Responding to Sudden Cardiac Arrest
What is sudden cardiac arrest?
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a fast occurring and potentially life-threatening situation where the heart unexpectedly malfunctions and stops pumping blood. During an SCA, blood flow to the brain and other vital organs is disrupted. Unless medical attention is provided almost immediately, the risk of fatality increases rapidly.
A sudden cardiac arrest is different from a heart attack – an SCA is an electrical problem in the heart. A heart attack, on the other hand, occurs when there is a disruption of blood flow to some part of the heart muscle. The heart’s electrical system regulates the rhythm and rate of the heartbeat. Complications with this electrical system can cause irregularities in heartbeats known as arrhythmias. Arrhythmias can cause the heart to beat too slowly, too fast, or in irregular patterns. Such irregular heartbeats can result in the heart to stop pumping blood – these result in sudden cardiac arrest.
Patients suffering from cardiovascular conditions are at a higher risk of suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. However, SCA can occur in seemingly healthy people with no known history of heart disease or obvious risk factors to SCA.
What causes sudden cardiac arrest?
There are several risk factors that can cause irregularities in heart rhythms leading to a sudden cardiac arrest:
Scarred or thickened heart muscle from coronary artery disease, prior heart attack, cardiomyopathy, viral infections, hereditary conditions, and other conditions that can damage and scar the heart tissue.
Electrical abnormalities
Poorly managed heart failure
Coronary artery disease
Blood vessel complications
Use of recreational drugs
Cardiomyopathy
Family history and genetic conditions
Smoking
Signs and symptoms of a sudden cardiac arrest
In order to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest, it is important that you are able to recognise the symptoms in this emergency situation. Watch carefully for signs such as:
Lack of consciousness/ sudden loss of responsiveness: The person is not conscious, is collapsing, has collapsed, or isnot able to respond to your query when you ask if he or she is okay.
Lack of pulse: During SCA, the heart stops beating and you may not be able to feel a pulse.
No or abnormal breathing: The person may be breathing weakly or not at all.
How to respond during a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA)?
In the event that you observe the abovementioned symptoms in a person, you must act quickly and follow these steps immediately:
1. Check for responsiveness: Ask the person if they are all right and tap them to check for any signs of response. If the person is not moving, speaking, able to blink or react to your question in any way, and is unresponsive, follow through with the following steps.
2. Alert people around you and call for emergency medical services immediately. You can call 108, 102, or 112 for medical emergency help in India.
3. If the person is not breathing at all, perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
4. To administer CPR:- Clasp your hands together and place both your hands on the person’s breastbone.- Push hard and fast in the centre of the chest, making the chest move inward about an inch.- Push fast and at a controlled rate of 100 to 120 pushes a minute, and let the chest resume a normal position after each push. (Pushing to the beat of the song Staying Alive will get you approximately the 100-120 pushes.)- Continue performing CPR until medical help arrives or an AED is made available.
5. Use an automatic external defibrillator (AED) if available: A portable defibrillator comes with a mechanism for voice commands that gives you step-by-step instructions. AEDs are designed to provide audible commands to an untrained person at a time of cardiac emergency. The AED will diagnose the rhythm of the person’s heart before delivering a shock. The electric shock to restore normal heart rhythm will be delivered by the AED only if the person is suffering a cardiac arrest
6. In case there is no AED available and you are still waiting for emergency medical help to arrive, continue delivering CPR.
Most people who have suffered a sudden cardiac arrest survive if they receive help very quickly. The fatality rates of SCAs, however, are very high – 95%. Most fatalities occur because the person is alone, the people around did not know CPR or call emergency medical help, or if the emergency medical help does not arrive within the 10 minutes to avoid brain death. Though such statistics may seem discouraging, a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, a balanced diet with low sugar and oil, and avoiding habits such as smoking and drinking go a long way in preventing heart disease and cutting risks of sudden cardiac arrests. irradiate-space: was it written by an American? loki-zen: I have no reason to think it was, but I'm fascinated as to why this would make you think that
Regarding needles: the American Library Association and National Recreation and Park Association have been publishing guidance for a while on how to safely dispose of drug-use paraphernalia, including needles from opioid users. Here's a doc and an article:
Regarding oxygen bottles: since the COVID pandemic began, I've seen more people than before with oxygen tanks in non-hospital public spaces in the US. Knowing how to deal with that particular piece of equipment isn't just a first-aid concern, it's also a hazmat concern when you're in a building full of flammables. So while I don't have any evidence, it makes intuitive sense to me that libraries would offer training to librarians on the device, just like they would for the Automatic External Defibrillator, Narcan, or the gunshot wound kit.
This stuff is not at all related to library science, but because libraries are one of the two default no-questions-asked open-to-everyone indoors spaces in the US, the other being community recreation centers, the staff of these facilities are often put in the position of medical first responders or social workers. Libraries are not just a place to find books; they're a place to find help with filling out your tax return, obtaining government benefits, and sheltering from the weather.
Because of those policies, libraries are also a place where if you collapse or become nonresponsive, someone will notice and make sure medical care is provided. That's not necessarily the case with anywhere else that's free to get in.
That's why, in the US, people leave senile seniors on oxygen at the library, or go to the library to do nonsmoking drugs. That's why US librarians often receive training on these subjects. And that's why I wasn't surprised that these topics would show up in standardized training for librarians.
mandatory online H&S training for newjob sure does expect me to know an awful lot about which needles go in which sharps bin and correct procedure for managing patient oxygen supplies. for a librarian

Secret santa gift for @automatic-external-defibrillator, organized by @mcytblrsecretsanta, thanks again! You wanted bees, i hope there's enough of them and fluff in this for you <3
Read on AO3
It’s very early in the morning and Tubbo is already tired.
He slept on a pile of blankets at Fundys place this night and the fox hybrid tried his best, but Tubbo’s never been particularly comfortable in closed-off places in the ground. He likes open windows and the sky at his fingertips best and a fox den is many things but not that.
It would have been much easier if Tommy had chosen to burn down his house earlier. Really, Tubbo can understand him. Sometimes arson is fun and while it’s certainly annoying, it’s nothing that can’t be fixed in a couple day’s worth of work. At least his items survived.
But then again, Tommy is...Tommy.
There really is no better way to put it. Tubbo loves his friend anyway, arson tendencies at inconvenient times included.
He speeds up a bit along the prime path that already has a hole again. Sighing, he chooses to continue. It can be somebody else’s problem for the day. Fundy, maybe. He’s still sleeping, after all.
He finally turns around the corner and gets unhindered eyesight on the destruction Tommy’s antics yesterday caused. Tubbo stops and blinks. Or he would have, would there have been any destruction left.
What yesterday looked like a battlefield - with half-burned logs lying on the grass and his chests charred, the smell of ash in the air and a cackling invisible Tommy with flint and steel in his hand watching over the carnage - is now restored to exactly how his house before somebody made the ill-advised decision to not stop Tommy’s arsonist tendencies.
“That’s…not possible,” Tubbo says out loud and promptly punches himself against the shoulder. Surely he must be dreaming. Surely not…
When he opens his eyes again and the pain stops stinging quite as much, the house is still there. Right there, with a solid frame made out of stripped oak logs and spruce planks that must have taken hours to collect.
He finds the chest when he steps closer.
from dream and sapnap, it reads and Tubbo opens it carefully. He doesn’t think the two of them would have trapped it (redstone seems more like Fundy’s thing, if anything) but you can never be too careful on this server.
Instead, he’s greeted with diamonds, golden apples and even obsidian.
He opens and closes his mouth without being able to say anything.
“Dude,” he finally manages to bring out and he smiles without even meaning to. “That’s so nice!”
They really didn’t have to, with both of them - for once - barely involved in the conflict in the first place. Especially since they must have spent the entire night gathering materials and building the house itself to fix all of it, not even mentioning the riches they just dumped on him in this chest.
Warmth blooms in his chest. Sure, he loves Tommy and Fundy and he has no doubt they would have done this for him as well if he’d asked them but it’s something different if a stranger does it for him just because they can.
“They’re so nice,” he repeats out loud and his smile gets even more bright as he realizes he’s done. He doesn’t have to rebuild the house! He can do whatever today!
He could have slept longer…
Nope, ignoring that thought. The entire day is now his, to figure out how to get some things back and maybe break the server a little bit in the process.
Maybe he should be a bit nicer to Dream now, after the other rebuilt him the entire house from scratch?
But then again…
“Naaah,” Tubbo decides. He won’t break the server too badly, after all. And really, villagers couldn’t be considered server-breaking in the first place. They live everywhere before any Player even steps a foot on one of their worlds.
Tubbo grabs the things from the chest and walks straight through the front doors. There’s plans to be executed.
The entire house smells like freshly felled wood with just a hint of ash to remind him of how it looked mere hours ago. Thankfully, the stairs are still there, if slightly off. And so are his chests, still a bit charred but full of all the things he’s going to need.
HIs mind buzzes with possibilities and designs, ready to get to work as soon as he’s sorted through his things to find what he needs.
Instead, the sound of his front door opening
“Hey, Tubbo,” somebody calls and it takes him a moment to recognize the voice. “Are you here?”
“Hi Punz,” he yells back. “What’s up?”
“I brought you something. Can you come down for a sec, they’re really really annoying to handle.”
Punz’ words are nearly swallowed by an angry buzzing sound and Tubbo jumps to his feet, plans for an iron farm forgotten.
“Bees!”
He jumps down multiple steps at once, ignoring any safety he’d intended when building said stairs.
“I heard yours died, sorry about that,” Punz offers. He doesn’t sound particularly sorry but it’s not like Tubbo cares much about that. “So I thought I’d bring you over two of mine, to start your own farm. Also, they keep stinging me, I don’t want them anyway,” he jokes.
“Oh Universe thank you!”
Punz presses one of the leads in his hands. “Here you go.”
It’s a bit awkward with Tubbo half-balancing on his staircase and two bees buzzing around, refusing to stay still, but they manage it somehow. The bees can’t replace Spins, not really, but they’ll be enough with time, maybe. Hopefully.
For now, he’s just going to enjoy hearing the buzzing around him, as if it never left.
“I’ll name this one Spunz,” he promises.
“Oh?” Punz clearly tries to stay cool but Tubbo’s pretty sure that’s a faint blush he’s trying to hide. “Well…have fun I guess. I’ll…” His sentence trails off.
“Want to stay?” Tubbo offers. “You could help me build the farm!”
“Uh,” Punz answers, as if he isn’t quite sure of himself.
“I’ll need a lot of glass,” Tubbo starts cheerfully explaining and makes his way downstairs to more stable ground, careful not to pull the lead with the bee - Spunz - too hard. “Also you said it yourself, they sting! It’ll be easier to handle if we’re two people.”
“That’s true,” Punz admits. “Alright, alright, I’ll help you.”
“Thank you!” Tubbo smiles extra bright to cover up the slightly more evil smile under it. “We’ll get it done so fast!”
It doesn’t get done very fast, in the end. They’re still working on the outer walls when Tommy shows up for the first time since he burned Tubbo’s house down.
“Hey, bitch!” he yells and jumps over from the Prime Path. “I have something for you!”
“Hi Tommy,” Tubbo screams back. “What’s up?”
“Catch!”
Tubbo gets nearly thrown on his back when the chest full of diamonds hits him against the chest.
“Careful there,” Punz comments from the ovens where he’s watching over the fuel.
“I tried to find you a bee but…,” Tommy starts to explain, hastily and stumbling over his words. “Somebody must have taken them all! But I got all those fucking diamonds instead and… I’m sorry.”
Tubbo looks at his friend, hair dishelved and clothes dirty, clearly from his long stay in the mines, and impulsively pulls him into a hug. “Thank you,” he mumbles. “And you’re forgiven.”
He knows Tommy. That apology was sincere and sincere Tommy apologies are very rare.
“Alright, let me go, you’re fucking suffocating me,” Tommy immediately protests. “Clingy bitch. I’m going to high-five your other bee.”
Tubbo immediately lets him go to slap away his best friend’s hands.
“Don’t you dare,” he threatens.
Unlike normally, Tommy actually listens and pulls his hands back. “Fine, fine,” he snaps but he’s smiling.
“You’re not touching my bees again,” Tubbo says firmly. “But if you want to…”
Tommy looks up hopefully.
“You can help us build the farm?”
“You’re asking me, the great TommyInnit, to help you build a bee farm?”
But Tommy’s already moving, going to pick up a stack of already smelted glass and Tubbo laughs at his retreating back.
Yeah, the others on the server are nice and his house is amazing but really, who needs all of that? Tommy’s annoying sometimes and downright stupid and arrogant at his worst but he loves him, even though his friend insists on calling him clingy while hanging onto Tubbo himself. He’s Tubbo’s home, after all, more than any place could ever be.
The snow keeps softly falling on the glass roof over two teenagers, snoring amidst a jungle of flowers and the quiet buzzing of bees in their hives.

oh followup there was a discord server called the sleepover server (iirc, it's been a while) that eventually gained its own (rather large (in fact the amount of people that joined were more than the server could handle at once)) server called sleepover smp that actually has its own fandom wiki (small as it is)
there's probably a lot missing from the wiki but I know there was a whole catmaid thing? something about a landmark catmaid dream statue and catmaid hunters I just remember one of the mods of the discord got into a fight with the owner of the server over their username and I think I have a screenshot they took of the audit log somewhere
oh wow-- i just archived the link to the wayback machine, so it should be accessible even if the wiki goes down! thank you for this, it seems to be a really common occurrence for fans of mcyt to create really creative offshoots, which is fantastic to see and really speaks to the overall creative and community aspects of the fandom.
also, after hearing from a few other people who were in it, it's possible that the discord server was the Sleepyheads server! i've seen a few people mention the sleepover smp as an offshoot from it, but anyone is free to fact check me on that! that's what this project is for, after all-- communal fact-checking before too much of the fandom gets blown to the wind or forgets.

When writing about CPR (or just stuff about CPR in general)
The person giving CPR needs to make sure the scene is safe first because they cannot give proper help if they end up badly injured as well. They need to look for immediate hazards like oncoming cars, or stuff like broken glass.
The person giving CPR should always tap the other person’s shoulder and ask if they are okay BEFORE any attempts at CPR are made to check if they are conscious or still breathing.
The person receiving CPR may be making slight gasping sounds, but this doesn’t necessarily mean they are breathing. It may just be spasms in the lungs.
The person about to give CPR should call or designate someone to call (if there is someone else around) emergency medical help AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (also send them to get an AED if possible). Put the phone on speaker if no one else is around to assist.
An AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) is often present in many public buildings, and give simple audible instructions on how to use it when turned on. It also shows images of where to place the defibrillator pads.
Clothes do not need to be removed before giving compressions unless there’s something obstructing the way. Clothes may, however, need to be removed to use the AED, as the defibrillator pads need to be touching the skin.
The person giving chest compressions must be pressing with enough force to push blood through the heart (enough to push two inches or one-third of the way into the chest). This means there is a strong possibility the person on the receiving end may end up with bruised, or even broken, ribs.
A set is 30 compressions (at a rate of about two per second) followed by two rescue breaths. When giving rescue breaths, tilt victim’s chin up and their head back, pinch their nose shut, and breathe enough air into them that you see their chest rise. Immediately return to compressions.
If the CPR was needed because the person lost consciousness from choking, check the back of the mouth each time before giving rescue breaths. If an object is visible, it can be removed with a finger.
If the person receiving the CPR was drowning, they are gonna be vomiting and coughing up a bunch of water upon beginning to breathe again. It’s not gonna be pretty.
Giving CPR is physically demanding. If the person giving it is starting to get exhausted, they should switch with someone else if other people are around so they don’t start to make mistakes.
The person who received CPR is likely going to be dazed and very sore from the experience upon regaining consciousness. If ribs were broken, it will take 4-8 weeks to fully heal. If no ribs were fractured, it will likely take one or two weeks.
Please, please, please, DO NOT:
Use CPR on someone who is conscious and/or breathing properly. This can do them a lot of harm.
Perform CPR against a soft surface, as this will absorb the force of the chest compressions
Use rescue breaths in writing just as a plot device for a “romantic kiss”.
^ Seriously, don’t. I will steal your teeth.
#my posts#cpr#cpr not being shown properly in any kind of media is my biggest pet peeve#writing#cpr reference#other people who know about CPR feel free to add on to this if I missed anything important

1. Defibrillator
Your Guide to Purchasing An Automatic External Defibrillator
Automated external defibrillators (AED) are very important resources in our society that provides help to people who suffer cardiac arrest. People that are well trained to handle these devices can help to save lives. For this reason, many organizations are interested in purchasing the device as a way of getting ready for an emergency. However, not all defibrillators are the same form the manufacturer and type. Therefore, what you are looking for as an organization may not be able to meet the needs of the people in your community. To help you avoid making unnecessary purchases, there are certain things that you need to consider which will ensure that the system you choose meets the requirements of your organization. Here are some of the things that you need to consider when purchasing an automatic external defibrillator. Learn more
First, you need to determine if the features of a particular unit are suitable for the type of your business. This is also what will help you to determine if you should buy a defibrillator. Industries with high risks of injuries for example, may greatly require such a device. Buying a defibrillator is a great way of letting your customers know that their safety is well taken care of. To help you narrow down the necessity of buying this device, you need to ask yourself many questions. Second, you also need to consider the power source. A defibrillator can either be rechargeable, use replaceable batteries, or manufacturer specified batteries, which are all available at any store. Shock intensity provided by a unit can also be affected by the power source. It is also important to consider the constant costs for maintaining the device. These costs can result from replacement of batteries, replacement of pads and cords, as well as when servicing the device after getting damaged. Find used aeds
There are also other factors that can affect these unending costs such as when the municipality and city asks for a certificate and paid registration for owning an onsite defibrillator. Lastly, it is also important to consider whether you want to buy an automatic external defibrillator for adults or a pediatric unit. This is because the shock levels for pediatric patients are not the same as those of adults. A pediatric specific unit might be the best to purchase for small businesses that takes care of children and their parents. However, it might also be necessary to buy an adult specific unit since adults are at risk of suffering cardiac arrest as well. But there are also others that can be purchased and used on both kids and adults like the ones needed in school settings. Discover more on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULF0QFZ35fc

Know Exam Basics From ACLS Class Indianapolis
Exam preparation for the ACLS for Healthcare Providers
Are you considering taking the ACLS online certification exam? You're doing well if that's the case! Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support training is among the most crucial courses for healthcare professionals. It instructs participants in the recognition and management of both adult and pediatric life-threatening situations. It's critical to thoroughly prepare for the exam to secure your success. This pretest can be used as a method of doing this.
The significance of the Pretest in Certification Preparation
A pre-test from the ACLS Class Indianapolis is a wonderful method to evaluate your knowledge and pinpoint any areas that require more attention. You can also practice using the exam format while doing this. You can become more familiar with the questions that will be asked and the time allotted for each part by taking a pretest. On test day, this can help lower stress.
The Benefits of Practice Exams for Passing
The ability to increase your chances of passing the certification exam is another advantage of taking a pretest. According to studies, persons who take a pretest have a higher likelihood of passing the real test than those who don't. A study indicated that participants who completed a pretest had a success rate of 90%, compared to participants who did not, who had a success rate of only 60%.
Learnings from Your Preparation
Regardless of the path you take, it is a prudent choice to get ready for the certification exam. You could save a life with the abilities you get from this training. Therefore, why not improve your chances of success? Consider taking a pretest to help you study for the test.
Lack of Preparation Leads to Common Medical Errors
According to the American Heart Association, 35% of all cardiac arrests are caused by causes that can be treated with bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). About 10% of adult patients receiving diagnostic testing, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association, require additional tests or a referral for specialized care.
Inappropriate CPR techniques were predicted to be directly responsible for 18% to 25% of medical error instances in a subsequent study that was published in The New England Journal of Medicine. According to another research, bystanders' attempts at CPR can enhance survival chances by up to 25%. Another study discovered that administering advanced life support, such as shocks from an automatic external defibrillator, could improve outcomes by as much as 20%.
Common ACLS Mistakes and Solutions
Even if they operate in non-critical care settings, healthcare providers should nonetheless pursue appropriate accreditation as one answer. To keep up their abilities, staff members could also think about taking temporary jobs in the ICU or another critical care setting.
To evaluate procedures and boost reactivity in the case of a cardiac emergency, several hospitals are modifying the requirements for ACLS renewal to require that staff take competency exams or take skill evaluations.
ACLS Class Indianapolis hands-on live training will help you to deal with unforeseen activities in an efficient manner. Visit the center for training at 2201 East 46th St, Suite 193, Indianapolis, IN 46205.
