In my tags I explain what to look out for if you're unsure if a video is ai or not. It's just what I look for so it's not foolproof, but if you don't know where to start it's there.
With our political climate always ask yourself what the media is trying to portray. Who would benefit from it. Who would be disadvantaged by it.
This is giving me a headache.
this is the end folks
i know people will say its not perfect and etc etc but the point isn't how convincing it is now, its how fast it evolved to this point. imperfections will be ironed out and the internet the internet is a warzone
[X]
#what to look out for:#weight. they are very light on thier feet and move as if there isnt muscle and fat on their body effecting their movements#theyll probably do this for skinny people so keep a close eye when they are skinny#watch the hair too. flowy in certain places and stiff in others#clothes. think about the texture. if its silk why is it stiff like thick cotton? or if its baggy jeans why does it billow like a skirt?#also look at the patterns on clothes. does the model turn? is the pattern matching or even?#i should say watch the faces but we already have those ai's. those will be integrated soon enough#for now watch the faces and how it relates to the movements.#watch for random blur and graphical errors. specially around hands and where hair ends#also when they stomp and jump watch to see if the camera vibrates. watch for camera focus if they change positions. film grain in dark area#when they move quick look for motion blur#when they move from their starting point check the background for leftover shadow or inconsistencies#.......... is this analog horror. like. observation duty. oh my god new video game idea just dropped.#texxt#ALSO CHECK THE SOURCE. take the first frame and image search to find an original photo. if the person is a celebrity @ them in the video#ask yourself who is posting the video. ask them where they got the video. ask your friends if the video doesnt look right.#ask yourself. what is the video trying to portray? is it just a silly dance? is it propoganda? is it a false accusation? is it false proof?

Portrait Of A Parisian Style Icon
Everyone loves french fashion and the style icons of the City of Light. Clemence Poésy is one of them. She enchants everyone with her effortless and simple looks. Here's what she's up to now. The actress, muse and model is famous for her effortless and cool style - the signature uniform of French women. She is effortlessly beautiful and theres something magical about her appearance that can't be quite gasped - maybe it's the simple fact of her being french. When asked what makes French women so cool she answered: 'It's weird. I'd never really thought about it but I was on a bus in Paris last week while people were going to work and it suddenly struck me that everyone looked really sleek and classic. No one was trying too hard, they were just cool.' Her to go to look is biker boots, black jeans and a white shirt - combined with messy hair and natural make up. When asked how she would describe her personal she said: "I always feel really silly answering that question because I really don't feel like I have a style. I like it when clothes have a story and I like finding things that move me somehow but I think it's very important to not make fashion too much of a thing in your life. It's a tool to show who you are to the world but only if you're privileged enough to to be able to worry about it. It can be armour, it can be something you protect yourself from the world with, it can be something that gives you power that makes you feel stronger but it's important to see the poetry in it and try to tell a story with your clothes. Not to make fashion too much of a thing." But she's not only a source of inspiration when it comes to fashion. She's the face of the fragrance Love Story by Chloe - portraying a sweet and romantic love story in Paris. With her natural beauty and her pure features she's a popular ambassador for skin care brands like Shiseido. Her personal favourites are Avène and La Roche-Posay. She also impresses with her magnificent acting in movies like Mr Morgans Last Love' (2013) - a story about love, loss and friendship set in Paris. Not the only movie she starred in and swept everyone off her feet. Her latest appearance was at Paris Fashion Week in January where she attended the Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2020 show. Her latest project is the World War Il drama Resistance where she plays Emma, the crush of the gestapo chief Klaus Barbie (played by Matthias Schweighöfer). This year in March, she also starred (and danced like no one was wathcing) in the music video of M. Ward's song Unreal City' that was shot in Paris. "A video about finding joy and wonder in the most random moments and places." It was directed by the French writer and director Beatrice Pegard. When asked how working with Clemence was, she answered: "Clemence is wonderful and an absolute pleasure to work with. She is incredibly smart, talented and inspiring and I cannot wait to work with her again." Pegard sums up what a lot of people think about Clemence and what makes her so magnificent. In conclusion, Poesy keeps on inspiring and enchanting the world simply with her presence and her endless talent - and we definitely haven't seen the last of her. "My clothes have to be comfortable. I don't feel at ease at anything too complicated." BY MAJA BEBBER

Do you got any ideas for increasing communication? I really wanna talk to my system but it's so hard :(
I could just give you the common advice but you can find all of that with a quick Google search. Lemme give you some stuff that's personally helped us:
GET OUTTA mY RoOm IM PLAyiNG MINECRAF
Lmao I couldn't resist, but yee, Minecraft has actually helped us communicate more than anything. It gives everyone creative freedom and with mechanics like signs and books it's easy to leave notes within the game. The littles adore it too :D
I actually have a lot to say about playing as a system on Minecraft, so I might make a separate post if any of you want to hear. I'll probably be discussing how it helps and how to set all that stuff up, since figuring out how everything would work with inventory and stuff rattled our brain at first (;ŏ﹏ŏ)
Art!
Creating things is a great way to learn more about your system and maybe uncover trauma details in a more gentle fashion! We personally draw and write, but music, dance, videos, etc. all work!
It doesn't even have to be about your system, it could be feelings or thoughts. Just something to pick your brain, to learn more about yourself since it's easy to fall down a pit when you don't know who you are, let alone your system.
That's one of the most important things in my opinion, having a grounded sense of self before really jumping into everything. When we jumped in not really knowing who we are ourselves it was hard to understand one another and I do believe that carelessness still affects us to this day, so just try to understand your own self as well
Don't laugh, but dress up games
Yeah yeah I know the kinda reputation some of them hold, but when we first discovered we were a system and started trying to work together that was the first thing we done. We knew we didn't identify with this body, but at the same time a majority of us were particularly unsure of what we did look like. Having little avatars to dress up was so helpful cause we would ask ourselves "does this feature have any significance?" or "Why am I attached to this certain feature?". Slowly after sifting through different options we could say "that's me". It was really reassuring and helped us recognize each other. It even helped with figuring out who was fronting because someone would feel unsettled about a certain feature being missing.
We still use little apps sometimes for fun or if someone new split / came out of dormancy :]
Making time
This is gonna sound silly, but think of communicating with your system the same way you would in a relationship. This is something you're likely gonna be dealing with for a good while so it's good to have close bonds with everyone. Bonds are the key to communicating cause I mean, would you wanna talk to someone you dislike?? If you're having trouble with system conflict I'd recommend checking out my other post I made about it.
But where does making time come into this? Aha sorry I actually got off topic but I feel like it's important regardless so I ain't erasing it-
What I mean by making time is well, making time. It's harder to communicate when there's so much going on around you cause you'll get distracted. What we do is set out however much free time we have that day to bundle up in our room and pretend we're sleeping, when in reality the low amount of sensory stimuli makes it easy to focus on talking to everyone. This doesn't always goes as planned, sometimes we just have bad days and can't communicate. If that's the case we'll keep trying for a few minutes before going off to do something else.
That's one thing to always remember, everyone has bad day and that's okay!
So, those are some ideas, but I also wanted to go over some things you should avoid too, kinda like do's and dont's!
Forcing communication
There's often a reason someone in the system avoids communicating, as well as a reason you may not be able to communicate with anyone. At the end of the day you gotta remember this was formed out of survival, needing to not be able to communicate, to forget, in order to properly function.
If things aren't helping then maybe give it some time, you might just not be at a good point in your life right now and your brain knows, saying "hey, we still don't feel too good, I wanna be prepared for any other tough situations we might go through" and that's okay. The mass media loves to portray ppl with DID having flawless communication and that's just not the truth. People understand it's a hard battle and I can assure you many in the community have your back :]
Fake claiming
-One of my worst habits, it's easy to say "no that's not real". Sometimes it might not be but I know from my own mistakes that more than likely it is. It can hurt a lot of system members, making them feel like their voice doesn't matter or even make them go on a spiral if they really are real.
I don't really have much more to say, it's pretty self explanatory. Just keep an open mind
You don't have to be differentiated
Another thing we're all guilty of, we thought we had to all act super different to be valid. Spoiler alert: you're valid no matter what
Once again, I feel like it's pretty self explanatory, but forcing yourself to be different from x, y, and z person sucks cause you never get to be yourself. You don't need to be differentiated, your perfect the way you are, regardless of who may share those same traits
That's all I can think of right now, but knowing me I'll come up with a million more things after I post this
I did come up with a really good explanation of what building communication is like though and I wanted to share:
Think of it as leveling up in a video game. All these tasks may seem useless but slowly your collecting XP and getting closer to your goal. That's why you gotta keep at it!
So, keep going on those seemingly useless quests and fighting that boss monster no matter how many times you get thrown to the ground, cause every last bit is worth it (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
I hope this helps! Sorry if I got a bit off topic! I have a habit of that (• ▽ •;) I was writing on and off so things may be a bit choppy. Aaaa sorryyyy but thank you for the askkkk! And remember, I am not a professional and my words should not replace / overwrite seeking professional help if possible! Regardless, I hope you have a good week! 💫

Can you liveblog the Mein Teil making of? Thank you!!
How many of these were from the same person? It doesn't matter but it is funny
Okay Mein Teil Making of liveblog
Sidenote I once rated all their performances if that interests you
I will try not to mention Zoran
Till looks good with that face distortion somehow
I was obsessed with the story of Armin Meiwes as a young teen. It's fascinating, and so easy to reason yourself into not thinking he really did anything wrong once you learn it was done with consent and the consent was key (when others before Brandes met up with him to mess around and turned him down he didn't push it because the willingness was super important to the whole point etc). I'm not. That's not me saying I approve.
Have you noticed that pretty much all of the stuff people don't like morally about this video (the slapping and blowjob, primarily) don't properly make it into the video? They aren't in it enough for it to actually have been necessary. The slapping is so choppy that there was no reason to actually hit him at all.
"This song is very homoerotic" and then he gets a woman to do the Lustful Acts with Till? Shameful. Cowardice.
Jonas would be Disgusted
The little ja from Till is very cute though.
Also? Porn AU
Till looks so nervous
Zoran please stop stroking her. We know you were excited and couldn't sleep please keep it to yourself.
I can never decide if I like this denim jacket on Richard. It looks silly especially with the collar doing that but it's just so cute
And he's a sweetheart his lisp is so strong here
I'm not even watching the slapping it's so unnecessary and he's crying a tiny bit and Zoran is being so odd about watching it back
Paul seeing his costume and thinking no this isn't good enough and fixing it is such a Paul thing to do. He wasn't wrong.
I hope he bought her some more of the makeup
Something about Richard being picked up and manhandled like a mannequin in a Primark kills me but also... :)
I think I know why he did wrestling as a teen
Genuinely I am not even going after Zoran for the usual stuff I just on an artistic level do not understand why we needed Tills scenes to be this soggy attempt at sex and violence it's genuinely, through no fault of his or her own, the worst segment in the entire video. It just... Abandons the disconnected dissociative feeling of the rest of it and has him doing whatever gets a certain persons rocks off
They should have stuck with the collar and distortion it was... Very nice
I'm not gonna say it but I do not agree morally
Is that a clove
You know, I've always wondered why Richard didn't smoke cloves. He smokes those American spirit yellow ones now For Health (presumably) but cloves do fit the aesthetic he's going for during working hours
He just watched till get and presumably give a blowjob, lit up a cigarette, and is talking in breathy tones you cannot tell me he wasn't getting off on it
"it was very important we were alone for this blowjob that barely even makes it into the video"
Unlike all the other directors the way he goes about his crush is not very good it's quite bad actually
Paul and Oli both having their scenes based in Japanese dance styles is interesting and I do think that was a good move
That one bit of his hair sticking up fuck how does he never escape looking silly?
Don't care for the spit fountain
Why does he say stop complaining in English when the guy was speaking in German does it just have a better vibe?
It's very cute either way I like Richards flirting concentration faces. You can hear him go hhhhh as he looks at the guy just before they turn to compare. And the camp little hands when they turn back also
Paul does some good faces huh
"I didn't have to change my ways, I just did things the way I normally do them"
As in all of their videos, only a few may look good at once. Today is Richard and Schneiders turn, with Till and Flake also looking Pretty Good.
The way Richard is looking at Zoran is so full of what now registers as distaste
Zoran is right here about it being brave for them to have put themselves out there like that and I will allow him some space to be wanky about art because they're the ones doing it. The fact he/it focuses on Schneider in a way that makes me crave an autobiography from schneider/all of them because clearly there's a Something there beyond him just being very androgynous and therefore suited
What he stole from us by giving Till a female angel he made up for with Richard's whole wrestling thing. Entangled. Homoerotic.
Schneider does an incredibly Till face when he's checking the blouse
I'd love to know how consciously connected to this whole thing growing his hair out was
Maybe Richard... Should do more wrestling
Richard and his double kissed but that footage was not left in the final video. Zoran strikes again.
The ja is so cute Why did Richard and Till both do a similar and very cute Ja in this video?
Schneider this entire video:
He's sure he won't be doing much, just be a bit more woman. Given the way Rammstein tends to portray women... Yeah I mean. Yeah.
I would like the full uncut footage of Schneider and Richards parts for uh it's for a project it's super secret you won't have heard if it but I do need that footage.
What happened fifteen years ago, Richard?
Poor baby :(
Zoran still creeping behind the camera
Thighs
Maybe Zoran and I aren't so different unfortunately
I would have loved to see how schneider and the others reacted upon seeing his part
One of them he was tucked so naturally...
How did they act when they saw him on his back legs akimbo I have got to know
He's so bashful
I'm sure they've seen it before
The eye contact.
He is so tickled
Oli is very much acting as if nothing is wrong, maybe to a greater degree than how he is usually
Olis control over his own body really sells his whole performance it almost makes me not detest the toe thing
Paul is complaining and wishing to Influence again and I understand this impulse well
Was Sweden particularly bad for that?
He suits his hair long and down like that
Flakes eye-smile gave it away but everything he says in this is just my favourite
He makes eye contact with the camera just after the dude says chimeras and oh.
I hope he understands that he is incredibly pretty. That's why he's a ballerina I have to assume
"it's rare to dance with as much commitment as I did" I will drop to one knee and hold out a ring do not try me flake
Zoran is doing that thing directors do where he's trying to justify something he chose for purely horny reasons. Ask Jonas about the tongues I'm sure a lot of artistry is involved
I'm being uncharitable it is an overarching theme and I am the one giving the mud fight that significance
But I mean come on now, the mud fighting.
Till is talking so softly is he okay
Is there any better feeling than hearing them talk about how they're getting on better as a group than ever? I think no.
Schneider is me watching the mud fighting
Richard and Tills little bits of fighting you can catch here and there are especially good and I just. Look. Listen. Look and listen. They should wrestle each other for a video for Let's Go. They fight and wrestle and then...
I love this living song metaphorical soup coming from Paul
Richard so gently pinning flake down...........
As a drummer, I simply refused
Insert the quote and out the original Feeling b drummer being incapable of doing anything if it was good
Oli genuinely seemed more comfortable almost naked and covered in make up which actually makes total sense in general and for him huh
The way Till shakes his hair out like a dog kills me it's second nature to him look at him go
I want them to watch the making ofs for Mein Teil and Keine Lust and react to them because a lot of what they're saying is pretty much what they've been saying over the past couple of years about the new album.
Flake is Helping Richard. Flake in
Okay no see so have you watched the video for All the Things She Said/Ya Soshla s Uma by tatu? Or like that fuckinn that one Tom Holland thing where he's in the rain being slutty or whatever?
This isn't wrestling this is wrestling. And very tender.
They're so much more gentle with their wrestling than I feel most people would assume they'd be? Or I just think that because I have siblings and there is no holding back when you first fight those fools.
Puppies!
That kiss sure was awkward huh
Mein Teil is a very good video and making of if you remove Till's main part and Zoran being unnerving.

EXPECTATIONS
I often expect greatness, creativity, grace and a form of unattainable perfection out of myself, most of us do. For me it's in the videos I post, how I spend those few hours in the morning I have before work or how well I take care of my money, space, relationships and belongings. Being perfect isn't a thing, you knew that.
I want to hone in on my own and probably most people's expectations out of themselves and whatever kind of content is being produced (or not) that I've unknowingly been holding over my own head for however long. I'm not sure if this is gonna be a story time here or if I'm trying to help?? Or preach some of my VERY generalized knowledge I've created over the years, we'll see.
I've been putting out videos and putting myself out there since I was about 10 or 11 years old. That's 6 or 7, I really don't know, years of fully embarrassing myself and or inspiring the people who continue to or have watched my videos before, but that's FAR fetched:) I've had to learn a lot and be knocked down a couple times, I'm still learning everyday. I say embarrassing because you see, I thinkthat the videos I post are good, but I FULLY know that there are people out there absolutely CRYING, bawling. Their eyes out at my feet, the way I move or whatever it may be. That underlying knowledge of that random person, teacher or dancer out there, is a thought I had to completely ignore to keep doing what I love to do. The point of me mentioning that is that maybe nobody is thinking that, maybe I'm just my biggest critic, which i'm sure everyone has heard that saying before because it is so! true! Everyone should hear it. I don't think there's been one time where I've been in a class and thought to myself, "Wow they look kinda dumb!" So why would anyone else be looking at me in class?? How selfish of us to believe that everyone cares about what we're doing!
It is a different story however, when you're putting yourself on Instagram, Youtube, etc, to be watched over and over however many times, sent in dms to be laughed at by Sally and her friends. Your pride is something you set aside when you take to social media. Your ability to not be made fun of is taken away, you're a punching bag for people who believe they are superior. They might be though! They very well could be better then you. But the way they take away the value of your work, takes away their ability to be anything less than perfect. The people who do these things that make you feel less than claim they SO PERFECT. Perfect enough that they can send you, your own Instagram story, that you thought was good enough to post and make fun of you, directly to your face actually! But I've learned in situations like that, whether it's a second hand, "I heard it from this person, who heard it from her, that this person said that you are absolutely ass at dancing" or directly to you, you take it, you laugh because you've worked your butt off, (or you just simply thought your video to "Dancing with a Stranger" that took about 5 minutes to make was good). You have understand that your worth is defined by you and your mindset ONLY, not the miserable girl behind a screen who doesn't even know you. Because that is just silly.
I hope everyone gets to a point where they understand that just because not everyone thinks you're good and just because some people don't understand what you do, which I guarantee someone will make fun of you along the way, it's still important. I hope you know that your journey is still valuable, there is no end to progress and you are good. If you love what you're doing, you will exude joy, people will notice. You are good, when you are doing everything for the right reasons. I hope you know that they're having a bad day, they are miserable and they need love. Laugh at them but not to their face because you trust your ability and THEY NEED LOVE.
By putting yourself out there, you gain the skill of being unapologetic and you set yourself apart, by being honest and vulnerable. I did not know this level of maturing was what I was getting myself into when I decided to make my account, dance in my living room and post it at age 10. Nobody expected social media to over take every aspect of our lives in the way it has and we've had to adapt immensely, which is especially hard when you're growing and learning. It is definitely nothing compared to our queen Charli out here but it's the same idea. We are all put on a pedestal by ourselves because of what we see everywhere, to be an Insta model, Autumn Miller (if you post dance videos), take the best pictures, do cool things for a photo or a video, for what? Live your life to the fullest some would say, capture moments and you'll realize how cool your life is without even trying. Do what you love, post what you want and your audience and circle will come to you. You will be amazed when you start being honest and people start messaging you saying how much you helped them or how much they love what you put out by posting something you weren't even too sure about or you thought was out of your comfort zone. Just post it! People respect and find value in reading or seeing things they have also felt, so be brutally and painfully honest. Even if you think you sound dumb. You're your biggest critic, it's not dumb. You've heard this before but our Instagrams and such are all highlight reels, nobody actually looks the way they do or acts the way they portray most of the time. Do not be hard on yourself.
I bow down to people who on the other side, hustle and practice in private, who don't share their work, who can motivate themselves and don't need recognition, who work silently and come out with great, just as rewarding and even better of results. You don't need to post. Some people don't find value in Social media and honestly some days I have a hard time figuring out why I'm so drawn to sharing everything I do. We should all recognize that our paths are all different. We are all experiencing life and the obstacles in millions of different ways and how we choose to move forward everyday in our work and our dreams is just as valuable as the next person. Be empowered by your path, respect the way you hustle, be inspired by others success and be sympathetic in everybody's trial and error. It's important to understand, respect and support the way someone goes about the things that bring them joy and fulfillment.
This leads me into the idea that comparison will always KILL your happiness. It doesn't matter what you do, there will always be someone better than you, in your mind that is (Nobody is better than anyone if you think hard and long about it. Being better than anyone does not exist.) On the other side, there's people who want what you have, whether it be materialistic or talent. Someone is working for what you have. Be thankful and confident in the things you do and understand that no amount of "things" can make you as happy as you think. As perfect as you think Alexis Ren is, she has issues and maybe even more than you. Romanticize everything you do and you'll start to appreciate the little things in your life, like the 15 minute drive to work, the early rise for class, grocery shopping. Make everything glamourous.
Better car, cooler parents, more flexible, whatever. Someone will always have more than you. You WILL find someone who has more no matter how much you accomplish. You need to find comfort in where you are at in every stage. Even the ones such as quarantine, failure, rejection or a break up that leaves you paralyzed in bed. It's alllll apart of the process. You will find goodness eventually, even if that means only going through another set back within a few weeks. Imagine how boring life would be If you were perfect all the time. Soooo boring. Kylie Jenner is bored. You can't compare yourself to people who have had more time, more training, as much as you want to ask yourself why you aren't at the same level as her, or her, it doesn't make sense. You can't compare yourself to Jane who is beside you at a Dance convention who has been training for 12 years, to you, who learned off Dance Moms for 6 years and is only in her second year?? That just sounds silly. I'm still working on that and I've become a lot more comfortable in taking risks and understanding I don't deserve the same opportunities that seasoned beautiful beautiful dancers get. But I still owe myself a shot for the honest work I've done. I learned recently put aside my insecurities, I've gone In red faced and embarrassed but leaving proud and fulfilled because I truly love dancing, more then most things. (This whole thing was supposed to be about dance??)
If I continued to discredit my work (basement dance videos) and the time I give, I'd continue to feel like a failure. I'm not a failure, I work hard, I put myself out there, my story is just different from most. No two are the same. As your Kindergarten teacher probably told you. We are all perfect. We all need to find our level of expertise and run with it and be sooo incredibly proud. Even if you can't do a triple turn, you are no less valuable then the girl that can. It sounds ridiculous when you someone says it out loud right?
"You can always start again. Clean out your social media. Create a new account for your new taste in music. Study or work in a new city. Start socialising with new people. Choose a new signature scent and style and purge the outdated parts of yourself. If you don't like where you're at, but don't know what to do about it - try starting again."
"Trust your hard work, it's unlocking doors you can't see yet"
Now this, just might be my favourite thing I've ever read. I read this before I started writing this about two weeks ago and I knew I wanted to leave you with it. I wish I was more like this.
"Deep down you know exactly what you're capable of. There's even moments where you get a glimpse of all the potential you have. You can get there. You just have to be willing to sacrifice the habits, things and situations that are standing in the way of your success."

One of the many dreadful side effects of our collective distancing is quiet, a miserable, seismologically registrable quiet. The white noise of everyday life—the humming of your local bar, the turning of car tires—is lost. In its place is the unpleasant silence of a whole world stuck on pause.
Let’s fix that. Today, we offer a playlist, assembled by three of our music critics: Hannah Giorgis, Spencer Kornhaber, and James Parker. They each picked a few tracks, each tuned to one of the very specific moods you might be experiencing during this period of self-quarantine.
A kitschier newsletter might ask you to now turn up your bass and fill the aforementioned void with sound waves from your speaker. But we’ll just leave this Spotify link here and let you decide what to do next.
For perking up without wanting to go anywhere:
“Party” by Planet 1999
Pop music’s caffeine tastes sour lately—it’s too brash, too silly, and too in love with the physical world—so instead I’ve regulated my energy with gentle, abstracted substitutes. In the video for this happy-slurry dance track, folks in casual wear bop around a digital purgatory, which feels awfully relatable. — SK
For when all you can do is stare out the window like the lead of an indie movie: “Cut Me” by Moses Sumney
As the days stretch on, so does the space for constant rumination. Thankfully, “Cut Me,” the fourth single from Moses Sumney’s græ: Part 1, washes over you with all the force and reassurance of a hot shower. Cry if you need to; nothing is more human. — HG
For a boost to the immune system: “Misfit Love” by Queens of the Stone Age, live in the studio at The Henry Rollins Show, 2007
Look at this band, these dudes: the greasy, druggy, stylish, heavy, humid closeness and consanguinity of it all. Look at them building this sick, sick groove in successive loops of wonder, in layers of inevitability, in a kind of scowling ecstasy, as if they’re inventing not just music but the idea of music. Inhale this; get it deep inside your body. This is medicine. — JP
For post-videochat melancholy:
“Where Are You Judy?” by Andy Shauf
The fantastic new album by sleepy-voiced strummer Andy Shauf is about spending a night out at the bars yet remaining stuck inside one’s own head. Here he fantasizes about an ex calling him up to reconnect, and it’s a weirdly comforting reminder that pre-quarantine freedom had its quiet madness too. — SK
For when you can’t concentrate: “Sex” by the Necks
In this general glut of horrible news, horrible numbers, and pestilential vibes, it can be—let’s put it mildly—hard to focus. The Necks are an Australian improvisational trio, and “Sex” is a nearly hour-long voyage into the galaxy that Miles Davis discovered with In a Silent Way. Slow, twinkling, irreversible build; beckoning theta-states. Whatever you’re doing when you put this on, you’ll start to do it better. — JP
For when only Morrissey will do: “My Hurling Days Are Done” by Morrissey
Forgive him his trespasses, as he might—actually probably wouldn’t—forgive yours. A yodeler on the Alp of himself, calling in his lost sheep, his black sheep, his whipping boys, in that rich and curling tenor, this, ah, complex individual is still in magnificent voice, and still capable of writing superbly, as demonstrated by this cut from his new album, I Am Not a Dog On a Chain. — JP
For a dramatic lip-sync session in the mirror: “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Céline Dion
Sure, this is one of the strangest songs ever written, but just think of it as an ode to the outside world, which you’ll see again … someday. — HG
For an important reminder not to text your ex:
“Si Veo a Tu Mamá” by Bad Bunny
Listen, I get it—social distancing has made dating really weird! But that’s no excuse to go full “Marvins Room.” Instead of Drake, let Bad Bunny be your muse: “Si Veo a Tu Mamá” is a rueful message to a lost lover who’s already moved on, but it’s also a bouncy introduction to the Puerto Rican phenom’s incredibly fun new album, YHLQMDLG. Rather than yearning ad nauseam, Bad Bunny looks forward. Do the same, and dance along. — HG
For your eerie but life-affirming walk around the neighborhood:
“Happy Cycling” by Boards of Canada
How did the ambient musicians of Boards of Canada anticipate this experience 22 years ago? The stores are closed, the gulls are jeering, and yet you pace ahead to thwart leg cramps. Five minutes in, the endorphins assemble, the creepiness lessens, and there’s an unidentifiable new feeling that might even be related to hope. — SK
For your personal happy hour:
“Stay Flo” by Solange
Solange’s collage-like 2019 album When I Get Home has never made more sense. It’s like she’s trying to remember the chaos of the outside world, rhythm first, and ends up conjuring some fresh, bizarre, and ultimately pleasing sense of order. — SK
For breaks from the news:
“What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye
Because obviously. Gaye voiced Vietnam-era outrage, but never has a sigh of “WTF” sounded so consoling or pure. — SK
For when you’d rather be on a different planet: “Celebration Station” by Lil Uzi Vert
Lil Uzi Vert isn’t subject to the same rules as the rest of us. Where we might trudge through life, the 25-year-old Philadelphia rapper glides. That’s never been more obvious than on the long-awaited Eternal Atake, his recent chart-topping second studio album. Uzi immediately followed it up with a separate 11-track record, Eternal Atake (Deluxe) – LUV vs. The World 2. It’s nearly impossible to pick just one song from the extraterrestrial experience that is the double release, but “Celebration Station” is a roller coaster unto itself. The run from 1:49 to 2:11 will roll through you with so much energy, it’ll feel almost like wind blowing through your hair again. — HG
For thinking about when it’s all over:
“One Love Jam Down” by Papa Michigan & General Smiley
“The social barriers come down / Together in a one-love jam down.” We’re told that there likely won’t be a V-E Day on this thing, no single joyful scream-of-the-whistle moment where we all rush into one another’s arms and orgiastically reverse the months-long damage of social distancing. But we can dream—and the combined bass-synth squelch on this 1980 classic of positive reggae can keep our dreams juicy. — JP

One question, answered: Why doesn’t the U.S. have a national lockdown?
Other countries—including Western democracies such as Italy, Spain, and France—have responded to the coronavirus crisis by shutting down entire regions or the nation as a whole. America, which currently has the most known COVID-19 cases of any country, has not.
Two health-law experts explain how America’s federalist system limits its response options:
Constitutional authority for ordering major public-health interventions, such as mass quarantines and physical distancing, lies primarily with U.S. states and localities via their “police powers.”

Try last year’s six-part British drama Years and Years, an eerily timely—and oddly comforting—series about family life against a backdrop of constant crisis. In the show, “simply carrying on is portrayed as the key to survival,” our critic writes.
