I've been going through a medical emergency in the form of a toothache turned tooth infection I've been currently taking care of with antibiotics

Since getting to the dentist fucking sucks and last time we tried it got us nowhere but back to square one, I'm hoping that the antibiotics will help for now

I know it’s basic but like….look at them…..my special guys…..I adore watching them in the background of things, I’ve watched so many productions at this point, but one of my favorite iterations of their dynamics has to be the Paris 1990 production. They both seem really equal in that version in a way that I don’t really see too often. They invented being silly and goofy and I love them very much.

3. Deductive Logico and Inspector Irratino

My favorite detectives ever. They’re SO cute

i agree with you that sunday is a better musical but do you think it’s possible you’re getting a little heated over a silly internet poll? like this isn’t an award show, there’s no prestige here it doesn’t matter who wins. treating it like a high stakes issue when it’s literally just a poll on a tumblr blog is a little much right? if the “wrong” show wins its not like the world will go “okay fuck sondheim take away his accolades the people of tumblr decided it.” especially since you seem to be aware you’re talking to kids, calling them idiots for enjoying a different show more feels really unnecessary

I'm a teacher, specifically a music teacher. Sometimes kids need to be told they're idiots. It's not an insult- idiocy isn't something to be protected and harbored, it's merely ignorance, and ignorance is something easily amended. If you're nice about it, most of the time, the student doesn't understand the gravity of their ignorance- if you're blunt, and honest, and use words like 'idiot', then the reality kicks in.

If you think I'm being mean to my students (and by using the same language here, to my followers), think again. I'm critical, because I respect my audience, in both. If I treated my students with kid gloves, couching everything in soft words, that would not be respectful, that would be diminutive and derogatory. I don't coddle, and I don't condone coddling. Grow the fuck up and get off anon, say the criticisms you want to say without hiding. I do. I'm an adult, and don't mask that fact on this site; I will speak freely on here, especially in regards to topics about which I harbor strong passions.

I don't care if it's not an important award, instead just a silly internet poll, it's still hundreds of people voicing an opinion about what the "best musical" is based on 1) a lack of adequate information about both competitors, and 2) a fierce loyalty to fandom for the sake of fandom. And that's an insult to a great man, and to add insult to injury, it further diminishes the incredibly important nature and message of the show itself.

There are plenty of shows that could win against Sunday, and I'd understand and accept that. Phantom, Les Miserables, Hamilton, Rent, to name a few; hugely impactful musicals that have strong scores, stories, characters, and have stayed the course strongly, more successfully than Sunday. There are even some shows that don't necessarily fit all of these arbitrary qualifications that I would understand- for example, The Drowsy Chaperone if pitted against Sunday would be an interesting match that Sunday might lose, given that they're both introspective odes to art, and Drowsy in particular is specifically about the theatre, thereby more relatable for audiences. Or Sweeney Todd, which pushes more boundaries than any other show in existence in literally every facet. Heck, even Dear Evan Hansen, which I hate, might stand solely on its strong message of the difficulties surrounding mental health.

But an Internet musical that's merely slightly clever in its meta nature, following the trends established by the hyper meta media people seem to love lately, is not a contender. Voting for that because you don't know the other option is disingenuous, and voting if you know both is ignorant.

If it were high stakes, I wouldn't be talking about it on Tumblr, ffs. This is the low stakes site for low stakes things. There's a reason I'm sitting front and center at the first public performance of his last show, and there is a reason my own musical, a piece a decade in the making, is looking to make its own local premiere in my hometown next season. It's because of Sondheim, and his magic, and how strongly he inspired me. And I'm going to defend that tooth and nail until I die.

You know, an interesting tumblr transformation that's happened gradually, and which I've seen no one talk about: ask-culture has essentially dropped off to nothing.

By which I mean, asks used to be WAY more of the tumblr economy. They used to be more common to send, and receive, and see. They were integral to the collaborative, forum-like behavior of old tumblr communities, not even to speak on the HUGE number of ask-blogs that used to exist to only be interacted with in ask-form.

I'm not saying this in a vying-for-attention way but instead in an observational way: I used to get way way more asks in like 2015, even with a fraction of my follower count. I wonder if it's due to the homogenization of social media sites? There's a lot more of this divide between "content creator" and "consumer" instead of just a bunch of peer blogs who would talk to each other. "Asks" aren't really a thing on twitter, are they? And as I understand it, the closest thing to an "ask" on instagram or tiktok would be a creator screenshotting some comment and responding to it in a new reel or video or whatever those content mediums are. Are asks just too tumblr-specific? Is that aspect of the site culture dying out as more and more people converge to using all their social media sites in the same way?

I don't know how to say this in a way that isn't so stupid but Ghost would watch like one season of breaking bad and attempt to make meth in the barracks kitchen because it "doesn't look hard" and when he inevitably explodes the place he just blames Soap and forgets about it. Meanwhile Price is having to explain why his demo expert is cooking meth to the higher ups, and Soap is sitting in confessional swearing up and down that he didn't do it because if he did it wouldn't have exploded.

favorite character/moment to write? and what’s your favorite and least favorite part of the process? :)

My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE character to write is Lord Byron. He's so fucking fun. Full of himself, dramatic AF, genuinely talented, and a complete asshole. He's just a piece of shit that I'm drawn to, much in the same way the women in his life (tbf the men too) were. I gave him a solo in the first act that is one of the best things I've ever written in my life and I want it sung at my funeral. He almost opens the show. He gets to rap. It's great.

Favorite part of the process is probably what everyone else hates, research. Piecing everything together is soooooo delightful and satisfying, nothing else compares. It's like taking a story you know, and fleshing it out so that it's real, then re-assessing the story from a more knowledgeable standpoint, and then repeating that process until you've fully satisfied your own curiosity, and pissed off all of the local librarians, and seen your internet bill for the month.

Second favorite part is the last note, where I realize, 'holy shit... it's done.' That feeling of completion is amazing. Just incredible. Such a high. I drank a whole bottle of sparkling grape juice and took my dog on a 5 mile walk when I finished the first draft of Diodati, such a fantastic feeling. I then called everyone I knew to tell them, and posted it on my Patreon, and then started recruiting for the cast and crew!

Least favorite part is honestly, everything that comes after I've finished writing! The WAITING. It's like a queue in the supermarket but a thousand times worse, because the other people working are not in my line of sight, and I'm just sitting there with blinders on, waiting for other people to tell me what to do. I'm not the director (thank fuck for that), so all of that stuff is out of my hands, and boy, is that hard to deal with some days.

Second least favorite part is the justifying of costs, lol. I have spent more on this musical in time, money, and energy than I think is reasonable. When I calculated 'compensation' for the time I spent on the show, at the rate I charge to teach violin lessons, including research, outlining, writing, and composition, it came to around $250,000. So, once I make that much off the show, I'll consider that full compensation for my efforts, and anything else would be actual profit... you can see why this industry sucks lmao.

That's why I've already started on my next project! If you saw my desk right now, you'd see how the 'process' is really not a process- it's more of a cacophony of bullshit and books. That would be a great title for a biography...

I'm sure most people already know about Ren's red room days, but for the newer folks: he used to livestream himself torturing his victims on the dark web. He would also harvest and sell their organs for extra cash.

His red room phase began after a group of upperclassmen started livestreaming themselves bullying people (Angel included) for attention online. If those teens wanted a taste of online fame that badly, Ren would be all too happy to give it to them — especially after he heard all the degrading things they said about Angel during their stream.

Ren has probably sniffed (licked???) Angel's underwear on multiple occasions lmao

He also keeps a bunch of their discarded cups, mugs, bottles, etc. — and on the days when he's feeling especially lonely — Ren likes to put his lips where Angel's would've been and treat it like it's an indirect kiss.

If Angel is fine with it, Ren would be more than willing to carve his name into their skin. He'd have to use an ample amount of his numbing cream though (typically reserved for when he gives himself tattoos and piercings), since he doesn't want them to be in any pain.

Similarly, he'd also be willing to carve their name into his skin as well — as many times as Angel would want. But he already has multiple tattoos of their name on his skin, so.... gksgsjj

I'm sure everyone already knows this, but Ren has an entire shrine dedicated to Angel. He keeps all his sentimental and stolen items there.

Ren genuinely has no empathy for anyone other than Angel, so if they were to ask him to murder his own mother (or his sister, his best friend, etc.) and bring back their heart, he'd do it with a smile on his face.

Because he has no empathy, Ren would probably enjoy watching snuff films like it's any other B-tier horror film. To him, it's just more research material on how he can get rid of his competition.

I've mentioned this in the past, but Ren has jacked off to the thought of Angel while in the library lol

I made a post back in 2022 that mentioned how Ren would willingly offer up any of his body parts to a cannibal!Angel, and I think the point still stands!!

He likes to put Angel's stolen laundry on his body pillow and rut into/hump it 😟

I once mentioned that Ren would slap a barcode sticker on his sledgehammer to make it look less... questionable whenever he carries it around in broad daylight — but alongside that, I think he'd also carry around some tools and an unopened can of paint to make it seem like he's just doing renovations. In reality, he'd probably force his victims to drink paint or gargle nails teehee
