🌼- What’s your favorite thing about this oc?

I think it would be how she has grown and evolved with me since I created her more than a decade ago. All the little details that have come to polish her as a character through the years. 

🌱- Does this oc have any pets? Do they have any pets they want?

She has Jirou and Kojirou if they count as pets. If not, she wouldn’t mind having a dog, although she would struggle to wake up early to take it for a walk. Takeshi would end up in charge of that.

☁️- What is this oc’s clothing style like?

Until college, Rio and Takeshi shared clothes, so the same things you would see him wearing were the ones she used as well.

After that, she works on finding her own style, which goes from denim jeans and simple shirts combined with oversized blazers as casual wear to tailored business suits for work.

If there’s an important celebration and she must wear a dress, adult Rio will choose a long dress with an open or low back to show her tattoo and would add a cape if necessary.

🍓Does your OC believe in anything? Are they superstitious? Religious? Atheistic? Has anything in their past made them this way? He is a believer in many things, no set denotation. He is incredibly superstitious (considering his entire family is cursed), he is religious to the extent he believes there are gods and that they exist and are responsible for the basis of the world. He does not devote himself to the gods, though. He was taught of the gods' existence in his youth but never pressured to care.

🧣 What comforts your OC? Is it an item? An action? A person? Whatever it is, how and why does it comfort them? His family is his biggest comfort. He's always been a sickly person, so he's needed a form of coddling his entire childhood. His mother and sister functioned, heavily, as his carers which wasn't easy because they were also extremely sickly. The constant care and love he received as a child translated to a strong ever-present, yet hardly acknowledged comfort he receives whenever he's near those he cares for the most.

🪓 Does your oc have survival skills? Have they ever had to use them? What would they do in an apocalypse? Could they survive? NOPE!! I'm sorry to say to anybody that may think favorably of Kyne, but he has no survival skills. He doesn't even know how a zombie works; he'd probably assume they were friendly considering he grew up in a village primarily consisting of outcasted monsters 😭

🌵- How does this oc feel about physical affection?

Physical affection is a core part of Rio’s love language to the ones dear to her. She finds comfort in holding hands, hugs and gentle caresses, and will give them to the few ones who gained a special place in her heart in the same amount she would like to receive them. This is unless said person preferred otherwise (looking at Hibari), in which case she’d restrain herself as much as possible.

If someone she’s not close to suddenly gives her physical affection she will most likely allow it with a smile but won’t return it comfortably.

🌾- How does this oc get along with people they just met?

At the very moment of meeting, Rio’s good perception starts reading the other person’s character and adapts to them. She tends to keep new people at a distance at the same time she appears open and friendly (exceptionally if she’s imitating Takeshi), and shifts the focus of the interaction to the other person to avoid causing a bad impression, or an impression at all.

💧- What is this oc most passionate about?

Apart from the obvious, her family, who she would proudly talk about for hours, Rio is most passionate about the restaurant. She has wanted to keep the business going after her father since she was little, admiring Tsuyoshi’s mastery as a chef and enjoying her time helping out. She’s an avid learner of all the necessary skills to inherit it.

Loathing as she was to its prescence, it was an unwanted fact that The Percipient Scientist dealt with frequent boughts of pain and aches, that of which could often interefer with her tasks and frustrated her to no end. That doesn't mean she has to deal with it alone.

Even the quick movement of Josephine's wrist as she moved to pick up the pen was a sore reminder of her physical limitations that vexed her so. Pain and stiffness radiated up her hand, like a pulse of electricity surging through an unwanted conduit.  Even as she tried to open and close her fingers to relieve the pressure, she could almost feel the grating sensation of the tendon as she moved.

She'd done all she could to wade off the flare up - she'd practised stretches, equipped her braces, took frequent breaks - but it seemed even she couldn't wade off the aches and pains forever. It was coming close to the end of term, countless papers and tests to mark, all needing to be returned in a timely manner, all alongside her other work...well, it was no wonder she'd over extended herself.

Josephine sighed, weary and exhausted.

It wasn't the pain that got to her on its own, even though it was an ever present reminder of the lingering weakness she didn’t even know the origin of. No, it was the complete and utter frustration at being unable to perform something she did almost every day. The rest of her body thrummed in painful agreement her traitorous hand, and Josephine half regretted getting out of bed this morning, even if she knew it would have driven her mad to stay. She'd tried to work at the desk for ages, but eventually ended up propping herself up in bed to try and wade off the exhaustion.

Her struggle, it seemed, did not go unnoticed.

"Are ye doin’ alright there love?"

September had looked up from his own writing, the two of them in their usual cohabitance of working near one another in peaceful silence, simply enjoying one another's presence. September’s brow was furrowed in that way it got whenever he was concerned, and the fondness Josephine felt at his expressiveness was almost enough to wade off the building frustration.

"It's fine it's just-" she reaches her other hand up under the bridge of her glasses to squeeze at the bridge of her nose. Josephine's struggle with pain was no secret to September, even if it had taken time for Josephine to speak with him on the subject.  "I have come to yet another impasse with my physical limitations, and I have come no closer to understanding why, and I need to get this work done less I fall behind, and I can’t even pick up the pen properly, and I don't-"

She takes a deep, centred breath. She would not cry over something so benign, so common, so frequent. She wouldn't.

In the midst of her beginning ramble, September had put his work down, moving to cross the room and settle down beside her. He reached his hand out and gently took her hand in his, as Josephine worked to keep her breathing level. She didn’t know why she felt so overwhelmed so quickly, like the mere acknowledgement of her suffering was enough to shatter the dam that kept the flood at bay.

September's thumb rubbed soothingly into the pad of her hand, helping ease the tension, before lifting her hand to place a gentle kiss along the knuckles. He offered an arm out for her to move closer to him, a solid weight against her.  It didn't make the pain go away, but somehow, the support made it seem more distant, as if a glass had been placed between. 

A few moments passed in peaceful silence, before September gently moved and turned to look at Josephines work.

"Aye, how bout' this love, ye tell me what you need written n’ marked, and I c’n be yer hands for ye til’ it's done."

Josephine blinked at him, processing the suggestion. It was a solution, sure, but-

"But don't you have your own work to complete? It would hardly be fair for you to fall behind because of me." Something in her bristled, at having to accept help, of having to rely on anyone, even if the idea of not having support also hurt. 

"Ah well, ah ne'er particularly get anythin’ done in time anyway, and yer time limits are always more pressin, aint’ they?" He smiles at her. "Ah dinnae mind, really. N’ it'll give me even more time tae spend wi’ ye."

That was.... touching. Appreciated. Josephine almost felt like crying again for altogether a different reason.

"That would be... amenable. I think, given the circumstances I am working in." She reaches to read through the previous exam page she had been struggling with. "I don't expect you to be well versed in the topic, but I do hope you'll be able to follow along with my direction."

It's not a quick process, by any means, not as it would have been for Josephine on a good day of her own accord. But it was process nonetheless, as September filled out the pages to her directions to a key (with an added commentary here or there). As time passed, Josephine's trepidation at having to let someone else do the work for her, September never once passing commentary on the subject, only ever being fully supportive. 

She did trust him, afterall. She could trust him with this. 

By the end, Josephine was able to finish this set of paper with September's help, and he helped gather the papers for her in a neat organised pile, even if Josephine did have to remind him of which coloured folder they went into. A nice bath and a peaceful evening were next on the agenda, if Septembers’ hopeful gaze and offers to help were anything to go by. 

Well, she could be amenable to that too. If it was offered, anyways.

Eeeeeek yes. So Jordan is an assassin (obviously), and Travis McKenna is trying to help him to get his morals straight. Travis gets this other girl who has powers (current name is red, may change) to try and help (since he's an assassin it can be dangerous to try to get to him). ANNNDDDD thay end up falling in love although Jordan really wishes it didn't happen because he doesn't think he should get attached to anyone (or so his trainers tell him).

Lets just say it's hard to be in love with someone who's against the people you work for...

🌈 - color symbolism

✍️ - name meaning and symbolism

💪- abilities and powers symbolism/metaphor(how are your character's abilities a reflection of them as a person? Etc)

I'll do these for a couple different ocs that immediately jump into my mind-- Dante (they/he), Cain (he/him), and Solaire (he/him)!

🌈COLOR SYMBOLISM🌈

>> Cain: Yellow is a color I use a lot for him when playing with themes of growth and healing, namely because sunlight is a HUGE motif for him. The warmth and comfort of the sun, light being something needed for plants to grow and thrive...

Yellow is bright, it's warm, and it's something he can find in the people he loves! His best friend's yellow eyes, his boyfriend's golden hair. It's a color signifying his friendship and his love!!

Conversely, I use a lot of oranges when playing with his themes of grief, guilt, and trauma. He sees fire in his nightmares, it's a color that will never leave him, it made him who he is. It signifies the destruction of his old life and a rebirth into the person he is now. Orange is a color for anger, passion, confusion, and trepidation.

✍️ NAME SYMBOLISM✍️

✍️ Cain Rook: Cain Rook was a fake name that he assumed when he fully committed himself to the life of a career thief. C.Rook... crook.

His real name is Daniel Bishop though! So much of his name is just biblical references... which is intentional, given his childhood religious trauma. Daniel means "God is my Judge", Cain is a biblical figure who killed his brother out of jealousy. A rook is a chess piece that looks like a tower, but a rook is also a thief... a bishop is both a chess piece and a clergyman. Daniel was a faithful son who believed in God for the sake of his mother, but Cain is a scorned man who wishes he could take back his innocence.

Cain replacing the person Daniel was is deeply symbolic, Cain almost feels like he killed that kid when he looks through the warped glass of his survivor's guilt. It feels wrong for him to move on, he feels like a crook (and he is a crook!! he's an actual thief). He's trying to find anyway he can to rationalize what happened and why he feels the way he does... but it hurts! So he tries to create distance instead. ------------------

✍️ Dante Inferno: Meta-wise, this name references Dante's Inferno! I heavily associate Dante with the 9th and final layer of Hell from the poem-- Treachery. His greatest sin and the coldest, deepest layer of Hell. I thought it was fitting, given that they're a drow from the Underdark, who became a pirate that uses a submarine as their main vessel... who betrays their own people by selling them out to The Spider Queen for their own gain.

And yet, Dante is caught up in their own kind of purgatory. They have dug themself so deep that they can no longer find their way back up towards the light. They are deeply unfulfilled and unhappy by what they're doing but they continue it because it's all they know now!! It's the only thing that's working for them. Until it doesn't.

💪ABILITIES/POWERS SYMBOLISM💪

>> >Solaire is absolutely my #1 oc for this particular question. His story is deeply entwined with his abilities/powers!!

TLDR: Solaire is a phoenix fire sorcerer... who gained his powers when his mother ingested a phoenix feather elixir while pregnant with him. She had fallen ill and needed this elixir to live and save both her and her child. However, Solaire was born sickly... and were it not for the residual phoenix essence that he'd absorbed, he would be dead!!

While this phoenix essence allowed him to continue living and had also gave him incredible fire powers... these incredible powers also consumed his life. His father only attempted to nurture these abilities within him, which isolated him from the rest of his family.

Unfortunately, he was neglected for most of his life, though he doesn't see it that way. As a result, he grew up as quite a unique blend... being entitled, vain, and arrogant... but also profoundly lonely, angry, and confused. Yearning for any kind of connection, but unable to figure out how to earn it, without digging his claws into someone else and holding them close. Personality-wise, he is a Nightmare. ------

>>> Solaire does not know a life without his powers. His power symbolizes strength, control, beauty, and radiance. Destruction and pain. His fire burns OTHERS but not himself... right? He was brought up thinking that these are the best parts of him. These powers are his worth and without them, he is nothing special. He is weak and fragile without them.

It's an incredibly toxic mindset, given that he's chronically ill and his illness is directly connected to his powers,,!! Whenever he overuses his abilities or strains himself too much in any way, he becomes extremely sick and fatigued, on top of having regular flare-ups. It's built up a lot of self-loathing inside of him!! ------

>>> Ah but to tie it all back into symbolism... everything relates back to the phoenix and to fire. Fire can be beautiful and warming, something that can help life prosper, but it can also be extremely devastating and destructive. Solaire didn't know how to use his fire in any positive way and it ended up hurting him and everyone else around him more than anything. But because of that phoenix essence, he will always bounce back. It's a nasty cycle. Hurt, heal, hurt, heal, and hurt some more. ----------------

I have so many thoughts about this particular subject but I'm getting extremely rambly about it and not wording it as cohesively as I'd like!! So I'll wrap it up here for now.
