The day outside was bright, sunny, cheerful. Perfect for outdoor activities. Even if like most things in the dome were just as artificial as the weather.

Regardless, indoors provided its own appeal. The five year old quickly learned that when she started to slip the Caretakers. Nestled with the book to read, Ciel was alone in the library save for the ever present Cyber Elf resting on her lap named Passy. Ciel was engrossed in the pages, a feeling far different from the data pads of her instructional materials.

“What are you doing here?”

His voice was sharp and harsh, something akin to the tone he used to use back when Master X, or his mockery, were still alive. Back when Zero was still fighting. His deep green eyes focused on the girl with a sharpness of a soldier. “The ruins of Neo Arcadia are dangerous and are not for non-authorized personnel.” Non-Authorized Personnel, also known as anyone who wasn’t a Guardian of Neo Arcadia.

The ruins were a reminder of the utopia they once had, the place that they fought for... A mockery of what they actually wanted. A nightmare masquerading as a dream. It was a sorrowful world they lived in now, with the only human civilization they knew now destroyed... Humans were hiding in fear of the world for which they now resided in. A global catastrophe. Could they never return to the days of peace and beauty. It was a time of finite happiness but it was better than this place of absolute hopelessness.

Would he ever be able to return to the days even before all this happened, before his Master had disappeared and been replaced. Days where he would play piano, one of the only few instruments left of the ‘old days’, with X listening happily to the music. Days where he would go to sleep imagining what the next day would bring. Days where he felt alive and was able to patrol the skies with such freedom that he felt not unlike a bird soaring up above the world. Looking for more hope than what already lived. Days where he didn’t have to worry as much about finite energy or a war... They weren’t peaceful days but they were peaceful enough. He was a child back then.
